Combining tabletop RPGs, video games, dark humor, and a talking cat named Princess Donut, the series follows Carl as he battles through a deadly dungeon that's broadcast across the galaxy as a reality show. The unique premise and fast-paced storytelling made it an easy recommendation, and Shua is looking forward to continuing the series. Jay has been revisiting Marvel's Netflix shows Luke Cage and Iron Fist while adding even more filming locations to MCU Location Scout. Luke Cage follows Harlem's bulletproof hero protecting his neighborhood from crime, while Iron Fist tells the story of billionaire Danny Rand returning with mystical martial arts abilities after years away. Although Iron Fist didn't quite live up to expectations, Jay enjoyed revisiting both series and expanding the MCU Location Scout database. MCU Location Scout MCULocationScout.com is Jay's ongoing project documenting and exploring real-world filming locations used throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe and related Marvel television productions. Through detailed research, photos, and travel guides, fans can discover where their favorite Marvel moments were filmed. Jay and Shua trace the fascinating rise of computer-generated imagery from its earliest appearances in classic films like Westworld, TRON, and Star Trek II through the groundbreaking visual effects that forever changed Hollywood.   Along the way, they celebrate the pioneers who made it all possible, including Industrial Light & Magic, Pixar's founders, James Cameron, George Lucas, and Ed Catmull, while exploring how CGI evolved from obvious visual spectacles into the nearly invisible effects that modern audiences rarely even notice. It's a fun, nostalgic look at one of the biggest technological revolutions in movie history. Do you like early versions of CGI? Has it gone too far in filmmaking? Let us know! Today we're talking the Toys “R” Us Christmas Dream Book 1986!Toys “R” Us goes all the way back to 1948, when Charles Lazarus opened a little Washington, D.C. shop called Children's Bargain Town, selling baby furniture. Eventually he pivoted from cribs and strollers to playthings. In 1957, Lazarus opened the first store under the Toys “R” Us name, built like a supermarket for toys—long aisles, stacked shelves, self-service shopping, and wall-to-wall kids' stuff. This book provides a huge variety of toys. From ThunderCats to Cabbage Patch Kids, there's something for everyone. The Milton Bradley games provided hours of fun, and Cats Lair gave the ThunderCats a base and place of respite in between fighting mutants and berserkers. Of course, Robotech 3 3/4in figures were great to incorporate on your Joe team!Electronic Battleship? Check. Lazer Tag? Rad! The Hart Family? Only if it's a surprise party playset! We're living in truly crazy times, and things that would not even be remotely controversial ten years ago now bring ire to certain parts of society. A while ago, the idea of Christopher Nolan filming an adaptation of THE ODYSSEY would bring universal interest, but now any perceived ""woke" decision brings multitudes of vitriol and "discourse".Today we take a look at this film on it's own merits, and see how a myth that has evolved through centuries is recontextualized for our day and age. Join us as we aura farm with Agamemnon and take a journey with Odysseus to Ithaca as we encounter war, trauma, acceptance, and forgiveness on 70mm IMAX (none of us saw it on this format). • • •TRIAD Of The FORCE is a STAR WARS+ podcast hosted by Gus, Nani, Nad, & Chase—Puerto Rican and queer creators sharing deep dives, and heartfelt conversations from a galaxy far, far away. What's up, dudes? I've got Ken Kessler from Sounds of Christmas and Scott Leopold from Holly Jolly X'masu here to talk the jangle pop/alternative rock album by the Chris Stamey Group “Christmas Time!” After a stint with the dB's, Chris Stamey went out on his own as a solo artist. He invited his former bandmates back for a fun Christmas album. "Christmas Time" was released as a 7-song vinyl EP under the credit Chris Stamey Group with Special Guests The dB's. The EP mixed original songs with inventive takes on Christmas music, emphasizing chorused and reverbed guitars, melodic power pop, and quirky holiday charm. The record was mostly comprised of original tunes, the exception being a reworking of Deck the Hall by Cathy Harrington called Sha La La (Deck the Halls). Something Came Over Me is a reflective, melodic original that balances bittersweet lyrics with shimmering guitars and sophisticated pop arrangements. The opening title track is a bright, jangly power-pop original featuring Chris Stamey and Peter Holsapple's harmonies, chiming guitars, and an infectious holiday hook that perfectly captures the warmth and excitement of Christmas. The Only Law That Santa Claus Understood is a witty folk-pop original by Ted Lyons that pairs clever storytelling with acoustic instrumentation and understated charm, offering one of the collection's most unique lyrical perspectives. Snow Is Falling is a lush, atmospheric ballad featuring bass ostinato and Mary's haunting lead vocal, slowly building into a dreamy meditation on the quiet beauty and peaceful solitude of a snowy Christmas evening. Both are followed by the acoustic guitar instrumental It's a Wonderful Life which quotes What Child is This? to end on a remarkable, intriguing disquiet.Keyboards? Yep. Guitars? Got ‘em. Outlaw wild west Santa? For sure! Todd had a surprise birthday party. Sean kept recording anyway. Happy birthday, Todd. This week Sean sits down alone with author David Jon Fuller, whose debut novel Venue 13 is out now through Turnstone Press. What starts as a conversation about a ghost story set in a haunted Winnipeg theater quickly becomes something much deeper — a wide-ranging discussion about creativity, the bohemian life, what it costs to make art, why Icelandic culture produces so much of it, and how you keep your creative self alive when real life gets in the way.David has a background that covers theater, acting, the Winnipeg Fringe Festival, two years living in Iceland on scholarship, journalism at the Winnipeg Free Press, and now fiction writing. The connections between all of those things — and between his life and the life of his novel's protagonist Robert — turn out to be more intertwined than even David realized going in.Along the way: the creative parallels between Iceland and Winnipeg, why doom scrolling is the enemy of reflection, what it means to romanticize the bohemian artist life versus living it, the Fringe Festival, INXS and Michael Hutchins, Def Leppard at Christmas, Kiss in October, the Killer Dwarfs and a handmade wooden box set that David built himself and got the whole band to sign, and why asking your library to stock a book is one of the best things you can do for a Canadian author.About the book: Venue 13 follows Robert, an actor who buys a haunted downtown Winnipeg theater while working a restaurant job to keep the lights on — a man at a creative crossroads, trying to hold his artistic dream together while real life pulls in every direction. It's a ghost story, but it's also much more than that. If the main building sounds familiar, Sean figured out exactly which one inspired it.About the guest: David Jon Fuller is a Winnipeg writer, journalist, and former actor whose Icelandic heritage took him to Iceland for two years on scholarship, where he became fluent in the language, performed in student theater productions in Reykjavik, and developed a deep connection to Norse folklore and ghost stories that runs through his writing to this day. He also copy-edited Chadwick Ginther's Ravenstone books, which is a very Winnipeg small world moment.Venue 13 is available at local bookstores, Chapters, Amazon, and — David's preference — by request at your local library.Find David:Website: https://www.davidjonfuller.com/Bluesky: @davidjonfuller.bsky.socialInstagram: @davidjonfullerFind us everywhere: @seangeekpodcast Website: seanmcginty.ca Support the show: patreon.com/seangeekpodcast
