Happy New Year! It's our first show back for 2020 and thankfully video games have been taking a break, so we've been catching up on a few of the games we didn't get to from last year. Patrick takes us through AI: The Somnium Files and They Are Billions, James looks at The Division 2 and Judgment and Hope rekindled her love of trashing polygons in Geometry Wars 2 as well as tells us about her final thoughts on Gears 5. Plus news and other things. It's Video Game Small Talk! Email us! vgst@videogamist.com

This week we manage to talk for an extremely long time about many things, including Dead by Daylight, the They Are Billions campaign, My Friend Pedro, how Destiny sounds like a video game borne from the minds of NCIS, your emails and more! This week's music: Killswitch Engage - Unleashed
In this episode, Wilks and Wildgoose are joined by games developer and now educational something guy (his description, not ours) Dean Longmore, to talk about the quiet after E3, travelling for work, the delightful jankiness of Divinity: Original Sin 2 co-op on console, the nuanced nostalgia of retro-arcade coming of age story, 198X, the immanent threat of zombie hordes in They Are Billions, and a bunch more. Will Wilks once again manage to talk about Borderlands? Will Wildgoose invoke the spectre of Clint Hocking? Will Dean try to find something nice to say about Call of Duty? The only way to find out is to listen! 7 out of 10 is a proud member of the AlottaGreen Podcast Network. You can find it, and a heap of other great shows at www.alottagreen.com.au
Ah summer. A time for beaches, BBQs, and new game announcements... but not a whole ton of new games. Austin spent a weekend deep in TTRPG land, so it's up to Rob and Cado to talk about the games that have come out this week. We're fully into the summer lull, but Cado decided to take a vacation to the frigid new region in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne's beta. Rob's back from vacation, and he brought a few billion friends with him as he dives into the new single player campaign for They Are Billions. They also takes us through the early hours of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, which may lean too heavily on it's roots, and the campaign of Steel Division 2, which feels different enough from the first game that Rob is questioning whether it's interesting or exasperating.Discussed: Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, They Are Billions, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Steel Division 2. What a silly title. Definitely our silliest. James is away this week so Ian got the website codes. And he's going to break something for sure. I mean the title's not even related to Charmeleon OR Charmillionaire. Ian takes a moment to lay waste to the snoozefest of No Man's Sky. It has some good qualities but eventually that negative reputation starts to make sense to Ian, it's just a shame that he realized it after buying the game. He also takes some time to unpack the steampunk apocalypse title "They Are Billions," which has given Ian a lot to work on over the last several weeks. It's a great challenge will tonnes of replay potential. We also take a moment to discuss a little indie release called "Alien Scumbags," though Ian for sure calls it Scumbag Aliens once or twice. It's a charming, fun, and funny game, and it's clear that a lot of TLC went into its production. Well done to Monster Finger Games who put it together. Ian also takes a minute to wade through a real life MMO ghost story as he re-uncovers streamer "Vinesauce's" video of stepping back into 20 year old MMO title "Active Worlds" only to discover he wasn't alone. Watch the video, linked below, and enjoy the thoroughly disturbing experience. We're starting to play around with some more music in the podcast. This week you'll find "Battle of Pogs," by Komiku and "Album Instrumental" by Cheese N Pot. Good stuff you guys. Discussed this week we've got: Alien Scumbags by Monster Finger Games No Man's Sky by Hello Games Terraria They Are Billions Vinesauce's Active Worlds Ghost Story Experience [VIDEO LINK] Thanks for listening. Later Player.
We spent the last several weeks playing a came called "They Are Billions" which is an interesting combination of elements from RTS and city-planning genres. We talk about how different elements of the game work together, why this game is so spoiler sensitive, and why we loved it along with some things we missed from other RTS titles.
While James was away this week, Ian discusses some of the new (and old) games he has been playing, including: Terraria, They Are Billions, and the new update for No Man's Sky. These are just some quick updates on some new releases and some oldies-but-goodies. Ian also takes a moment to talk about the tragic shooting following the Madden 2K event in Jacksonville, Florida just over a week ago. While trying not to get to political and stick to what this podcast is about, this is something that happened in our own virtual backyard. James and Ian have just been talking about video game culture, e-sports, and sports and so it seems necessary to address. If we are going to put sports and e-sports side by side and compare them, then it's easy to notice a lack of coaching and sportsmanship that can sometimes be present in online gaming communities. Does this happen all the time? No. Are most people just there to enjoy themselves and do what they love? Of course. However, it might be necessary to further promote the idea that sharing a passion with people from all over the world, who all participate in a common activity, may alone have to super cede being the best all the time. It's normal to lose at things, and gaming is no different in this regard. Agree or disagree, this is an important conversation that needs to take place now. Also, on a very different note, Ian explores Skyrim's newest addition. VR? Nope, he's done that already and it almost made him puke. This time Bethesda's really done it. They've released it on the most powerful, most accessible, most user friendly platform yet: Alexa. Thanks for listening! Later player.

You look up from your keyboard and notice something's not right. It looks like the game you were just playing, but a little off. A little worse. Did you fall into a game within a game? "No worries," you think, as you resume tapping away at the keys, "I'll just finish up this little Easter Egg and be moving again in no time," and delve deeper. The police discover your skeleton, still at the keyboard, dead for who knows how long. The officer who found your remains enters them into evidence improperly, is suspended without pay, and must restore from a previous save. Once again, the Crowbastion has crumbled and the world is in chaos. The people, once nourished weekly with Top Pods, now huddle in desperate shelters, counting the passing decades. The Thur-Sten, greatest of the Stens, has vanished. Who now will espouse the Hottest of Takes, like flaming coals? And in the place beyond the walls, terrible beasts roam free, a warning of what happens when Bants are left unvoiced, to fester and grow. Clearly, heroes are needed. Can a bland band of zeroes save the kingdom from darkness? This time on Topic Chunder, the gang breaks all the rules by gathering for a horrendously long time to discuss computer games. Within these crackling electric sound-pages you can learn about Voppzy and Fiyenyaa’s adventures in Egypt via AssCreed: Oranges, Kane’s developing appreciation for Reigns: Her Majesty, Fiyenyaa’s love for They Are Billions and other boring things, Odward’s feelings on the GO series of puzzle games, Takuna’s growing collection of space motorbikes and some correct opinions on Heat Signature.

On Waypoint's day off last week, a series of investigations into Detroit: Become Human developer Quantic Dream broke out of France, outlining allegations of a deeply toxic studio culture. (There are good write-ups on both Kotaku and Eurogamer.) Austin, Danielle, Rob, and Patrick consider this means for one of 2018's more high-profile games, and what we're supposed to with this information when eventually playing Detroit: Become Human. Elsewhere, we discuss our time with The Red Strings Club, Celeste, and They Are Billions. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Hold on to your hype, it is time for the first episode of Not Enough Resources for 2018! Speaking of 2018, what do you want to hear more of from us? Follow us on Twitter @NERPodcast, and send us your comments and suggestions! You can subscribe to Not Enough Resources on iTunes or Google Play. Now Playing - Dylan falls in love with Horizon Zero Dawn, praising it as the best open world game ever. He also brings tales from the San Antonio hosted PAX South, including falling in love with objective based shooter Due Process. Meanwhile, Ryan dives into Early Access title They Are Billions, a healthy mixture of tower defense and RTS that is about steampunk and zombies. News - Instead of talking about loot boxes (again!), we talk about cardboard boxes. What is the Nintendo Labo? Is it a tool for teaching programing to kids? A DIY dreamscape? There is a lot of potential in Labo, but we try to wrap our head around what that potential is, and who this product is for. Competitive Corner - Dylan breaks down the upcoming ticket system coming to League of Legends, and how we both hope it will foster a healthy amateur scene for the game. In addition to League of Legends, another League we have been anticipating for over a year now finally started up: The Overwatch League. We break down the first week and a half of matches, and our hopes for improvement over the inaugural season.
The Geeks return after a week hiatus to talk an entire show about the Minneapolis Miracle! Ahh, who am I kidding, most of us missed it anyhow. Instead we talk the return the CW, a pseudo geek vacation, new video games played, and end it off by talking way too much about Telekinesis. In 2017 5 men were sent to prison for crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security prison and disappeared into the Minneapolis underground. If you need some pop culture knowledge and if you can find them, you just might hire, The Geeks Next Door. Que music.
