The statists just like to pretend one king is better than another inside the same system of political organization. It's the folly of doing the same thing over and again expecting different results
We open with a sobering follow-up: the future is less about AI toast (though Red Dwarf predicted it) and more about a soul-stripping "infrastructure of meaningless" after an AWS outage proved how fragile the internet is. Corporate overlords, like Elon Musk, are taking note: he finally addressed Starlink's use by Asian scam syndicates, but his attention is mostly on superintelligence, which Wozniak, Prince Harry, and 800 others want banned. Meanwhile, Meta, despite pouring $27 billion into data centers, suddenly cut 600 AI jobs, and Amazon is preparing to automate a half-million warehouse positions, offering drivers AR spy glasses and suggesting a new "Help Me Decide" AI tool to automate the exhausting micro-decision of which air fryer to buy. This dystopian fever dream peaked when Suzanne Somers' widower revealed he built a full-on robotic AI twin of the late actress. Predictably, Tesla stock tumbled, and the crypto grift continued with the pardoning of Binance founder Zhao, leaving SBF to ponder his failed check-bounce in jail.Speaking of soul-crushing, Disney's latest nostalgia raid, Tron: Ares, tanked harder than anticipated, proving not every Gen-X intellectual property is a worthy cash cow. But fear not, there's still great TV to be had: we recommend the clever dramas Slow Horses and The Diplomat Season 3, the high-stakes culinary nightmare Knives Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars, and the surprisingly excellent Gen V (which you must watch before the next season of The Boys). We also got our fix with the Pluribus trailer, Bullet Train, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, and the deliciously low-stakes reality shows Come Dine With Me, Hotel Costiera, and The Celebrity Traitors UK/Canada. Sadly, we must mourn the end of Food Network's The Kitchen. Yet, no matter how good the show, you still have to deal with Ticketmaster, which is still lying about "fighting bots" while cornering the secondary market. In the world of Apps & Doodads, OpenAI dropped its "Anti-Web" browser, ChatGPT Atlas (a data mule in disguise), and a new app now fakes your vacation photos (perfect for burned-out users). X is poised to sell "rare" usernames for millions (with a terrible subscription catch), while some clever hacker figured out a $60 mod to disable the privacy light on Meta's Ray-Ban spy glasses. Fellow podcast host Dave Bittner joined us to agree that the new Hall of Presidents format is better without the political posturing and confirmed the joy of old-school, purple-ink-smelling Spirit Duplicators (and we checked out a Star Wars fan film trailer for the AT THE LIBRARY section). Don't forget your Tilly Hat! Finally, R.I.P. Soft Cell's musical force Dave Ball, aged 66; the hits still hit.Sponsors:Private Internet Access - Go to GOG.Show/vpn and sign up today. "A dixitalización trouxo moitas vantaxes: rapidez, alcance, comodidade. ✔️ A dixitalización trouxo moitas vantaxes: rapidez, alcance, comodidade. A transparencia xera confianza. 4. We start the episode with a chat about artists that drastically changed their sound over the years – from the Beatles to Cher to Alanis to Herbie Hancock to Bob Dylan to Fleetwood Mac to Beyonce. Speaking of artists that changed their sound, how about the Bee Gees? They started out as a folky pop band and changed their sound to R&B in the mid ‘70s to out and out disco by 1977. We have an excellent 1989 Brad Giffen interview with Barry Gibb as he talks about the groups desire to keep going in spite of the backlash they faced after Saturday Night Fever. It cast a long shadow on them, but they endured by writing hit songs for other artists. Then, we have a really fun chat with Jason Mraz from 2012 and 2014. You get a real sense of who he is - an almost old school hippy vibe that’s really endearing. Plus, some audio from the late ‘70s/early ‘80s with the great George Benson – a jazz giant who had lots of commercial success. He has some great insights as well. And then we chat with one of Christopher’s favourite people – Ian Thomas – who has had a whole string of hit records that Canadians know and love – and some of those songs were covered by the likes of Santana, Manfred Mann and America. Ian is one of the newest inductees into the Canadian songwriters Hall Of Fame – which is coming up on Fri, Oct 17 at the Meridian Centre in Toronto. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster. Famous Lost Words, hosted by Christopher Ward and Tom Jokic, is heard in more than 100 countries worldwide and on radio stations across Canada, including Newstalk 1010 Toronto, CJAD 800 Montreal, 580 CFRA Ottawa, AM 800 CKLW Windsor, 610 CKTB St Catharines, CFAX Victoria, AM1150 Kelowna and 91x in Belleville. Ticketmaster and its parent company Live Nation Entertainment have drawn the ire of consumers — and the Federal Trade Commission — for exorbitant ticket prices, misleading hidden fees, and shady resale tactics. But losing your right to sue Ticketmaster or join a class action lawsuit is now just a click away. Hiding in the company's new terms-of-use agreement, The Lever found a clause that forces ticket buyers into arbitration, a private judicial system rigged in favor of the company.Today on Lever Time, David Sirota sits down with The Lever's Luke Goldstein and anti-monopoly attorney David Seligman to reveal how the ticketing company has monopolized the live entertainment market, kept ticket prices high, and is now stripping away your legal rights. This week on the New Music Business podcast, Ari sits down with Stephen Parker, Executive Director of the National Independent Venue Association (NIVA), which represents over 1,500 venues nationwide. Together, they discuss the Federal Trade Commission's lawsuit against Live Nation and Ticketmaster, which alleges deceptive pricing practices that have enabled scalpers to exploit both artists and fans for billions of dollars.Ari and Stephen break down the logistics of the case, its potential impact on the future of ticketed events, and the incriminating evidence pointing to Live Nation and Ticketmaster's complicity. They also explore the broader issue of monopoly power in the live music industry, the push to separate the two companies, and the policy and legal strategies that could protect venues, artists, and consumers moving forward.https://www.nivassoc.org/https://www.nivassoc.org/fixthetix/model-legislation5:10 Introduction and Overview of Live Nation's Situation10:10 FTC Lawsuit Against Live Nation and Ticketmaster15:10 History of Live Nation and Ticketmaster Merger20:10 Role of NIVA and Its Advocacy Efforts25:10 Impact of Ticket Scalping and Resale Practices30:10 Discussion on Ticketing Reform and Legislative Efforts35:10 Challenges Faced by Independent Venues40:10 Artists' Perspectives on Ticketing Issues45:10 Future of Ticketing and Live Events50:10 Closing Remarks and Call to ActionEdited and mixed by Peter SchruppMusic by Brassroots DistrictProduced by the team at Ari's TakeOrder the THIRD EDITION of How to Make It in the New Music Business: https://book.aristake.com Hosted on Acast. We're back outside—LIVE on Twitch—and diving straight into the chaos. Cardi B's out and the timeline is tight about those “add-on” singles juicing first-week numbers. Is it corny…or just industry standard? We talk sales manipulation vs. marketing, then pivot to a real convo on Black ownership—why sometimes the quiet bag beats the loud announcement, and why “community support” has to come with A-1 product and service, not just vibes. From there, we unpack Dame Dash—legendary contributions vs. messy delivery—and touch the Freeway “honorary sheriff” dust-up. We hit the Max B watch (just come home and chill, please), run a quick Cardi/JT & BIA diss check, then slide into the Drip Report: Morehouse x Nike Air Max 95s (fire) and Anthony Edwards' AE2 (Adidas looking spooky good).Second half turns up: Elite Scumbaggery (Corporate Edition) goes to Ticketmaster/Live Nation over the alleged $3B resale machine. We talk YoungBoy tour drama and fan antics, the internet's latest “David/D4…whatever” horror story, then cleanse the palette with boxing (Crawford supremacy talk), NFL red-zone frustrations, and NBA chatter—Pat Bev vs. Trae, the USA vs. World All-Star twist, and why true floor generals are an endangered species. We close on We're All Set Segment Tap in, run the comments, and follow everywhere: TikTok, Twitch, IG, and the store.00:00 – Cold Open: “Cardi B is out” and the add-on singles debate2:33 - Live on TWITCH and New Content4:52 – Black Ownership: Why announcing ownership can backfire (climate & bias)6:15 – Support ≠ pass: A-1 product/service over “because I'm Black”17:29 – Let the product speak; reveal ownership later12:19 – Dame Dash: legacy vs. messy delivery19:00 – Freeway “honorary sheriff”: recognition vs. “sellout” labels22:38 – Max B watch: “Come home and chill”25:10 – Back to Cardi: the diss checks—BIA & JT breakdown33:12 – DRIP REPORT: Morehouse x Nike Air Max 9533:53 – Gifted pairs, alumni flex, and why 95s always hit35:19 – AE2 by Anthony Edwards: Adidas hoops on a run36:50 – Sponsor: Xevo Life (code ALLSET for 30% off)37:10 – Elite Scumbaggery: Ticketmaster/Live Nation $3B jig40:38 – Digital “sold out,” resale control, consumer cooked43:08 – YoungBoy tour stop canceled; fan chaos & security lines crossed45:38 – “David/D4vd?” controversy talk (messy facts, nasty look)49:25 – Boxing reset: Crawford dominance & who's left52:24 – NFL quick hits: Lamar's red-zone calculus & Henry's fumbles56:45 – NBA: Pat Bev vs. Trae Young—who's really valid?59:15 – All-Star game: effort, nostalgia, bring back East vs. West?1:05:07 – We're All Set Segment: media spin & political cosplayhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZdlA9w1H0UAR8fW5nINI9Q?sub_confirmation=1Donate To Help Us Make More Content and Buy Merch @ www.AllSetPod.storeFollow Us On Social Media @WereAllSetPodPodcast Audio linksApple -https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/were-all-set/id1476457304Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/6frdwXOehWMk5OPj2YnAMa?si=nGrL2OFCQ3u_yf-hJs9lhQGoogle Pods -https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cDovL2ZlZWRzLnNvdW5kY2xvdWQuY29tL3VzZXJzL3NvdW5kY2xvdWQ6dXNlcnM6NTQ4NTIzNTAxL3NvdW5kcy5yc3MAmazon - https://www.amazon.com/Were-All-Set/dp/B08JJR8DSFPandora - https://www.pandora.com/podcast/were-all-set/PC:1000430306ListenNotes.com - https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/were-all-set-all-set-media-K73x2ck58fg/Overcast - https://overcast.fm/itunes1476457304/were-all-setPocket Casts - https://pca.st/cwq90uydRadio Public - https://radiopublic.com/were-all-set-8jOkelhttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZdlA9w1H0UAR8fW5nINI9Q?sub_confirmation=1
