In most industries, if you've got a solid idea, a few engineers, and a working prototype, you can at least get in the game. Professional sports is not one of those industries. When Jordy Leiser co-founded Jump with Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore, he wasn't just building software — he was trying to rebuild the entire fan experience from the ground up, in a business dominated by legacy players like Ticketmaster. Four years later, his company is powering the digital backbone for teams like the Minnesota Timberwolves and North Carolina Courage. In this episode, Jordy explains what it actually takes to break into a closed industry, why he reverse-engineers every funding round before he raises it, and the biggest mistake he refused to repeat as a second-time founder. RUNTIME 53:07 EPISODE BREAKDOWN (1:12) Breaking into pro sports, rebuilding fan experience, and reverse-engineering fundraising. (2:03) How Stella Connect (customer service) laid the foundation for Jump (customer experience for fans). (2:58) What Jump does today: a unified fan experience + data platform for teams. (4:11) The unusual founding plan: 3-4 years of R&D, designed to launch with an NBA franchise from day one. (5:46) Why sports is nothing like building a typical SaaS startup — more like a “car company” level of complexity. (6:48)The true barrier: a near-monopoly in ticketing that stops innovation cold. (7:59) Selling into a market where fans have low expectations — and why demand is obvious but still untapped. (9:54) Early customers as classic early adopters — every team already knows the pain points intimately. (11:25) The first hypothesis they had to kill: incumbents don't want to integrate or share data. At all. (12:32) Designing for the actual fan demographic: season ticket holders skew 50+, so “cutting-edge UX” isn't always the answer. (13:25) Jordy's advice to founders: get out of the building, talk to insiders, but keep your “child's mind.” (15:06) Sports as an industry you can't “hack into” — it works more like fashion or Hollywood. (17:31) Moments when he realized he was losing stakeholders — and why being “comfortable in the uncomfortable” is essential. (18:03) Early would-be partners who backed out, the impact on morale, and what they learned from those rejections. (19:45) Jump's origin as a “dynamic seating” idea — and why they had to build the entire platform instead. (21:03) The “invisible platform” ethos: why Jump melts into the background so teams can own the fan relationship. (23:10) Why NWSL teams and NBA franchises have surprisingly similar needs — and what that taught them about productizing. (24:36) Jordy's litmus test for platform vs. point solution: how many people in the org depend on you to do their job? (27:01) Seed to Series A timeline — and how the Timberwolves sale collapsing delayed everything by a year. (28:37HaHow Jordy processed a crisis that was public, sudden, and existential. (31:13) The Long Beach pier walk: the moment he decided to pivot the GTM to a crawl-walk-run strategy. (32:49) Effectuation theory, the “bird in hand,” and how it led to NCAA → NWSL → Timberwolves as a survival sequence. (34:39) What he had to unlearn from Stella Connect: stop zooming in — zoom way out to a 10–20-year vision. (37:05) The habit he kept: talent above all else — and why his first call was to a Chief People Officer. (38:45) Minimum viable people function for early founders: fractional HR > junior recruiter. (42:58) High performance without grind culture: intensity ≠ toxicity — and why durability matters more than speed. (45:40) Hiring from big tech: what's actually transferable, and the dangers of logo-blindness. (50:55) The one answer Jordy would need from a founder-CEO before he'd join their startup. This podcast episode from the Powerful Communication Podcast features Colin Kelly emphasizing the critical need for individuals to exercise their influence rather than deferring action until they achieve perceived success. Kelly illustrates this principle using the recent example of musician Olivia Dean, who used her platform to successfully challenge major corporations over exorbitant secondary ticket resale prices. Dean's swift, public communication resulted in companies like Ticketmaster agreeing to both refund fans who paid above face valueand cap future resale prices within days. This narrative serves as the central argument that people must use their power and stand by their values immediately instead of delaying principled action until they feel safe or established. Kelly concludes by encouraging listeners to tap into their fundamental purpose, asserting that effective communication is akin to the irresistible power of a crying baby whose instincts command unavoidable attention and rapid results.

Send us a textEpisode #21 // Season:2025Luba sits down with a fellow dancer she's crossed paths with in Thailand, Barcelona, and Poland a familiar face in the international Bachata scene who, like her, had felt the shift at an international festival. The conversation was sparked by two moments that hit the internet this month: • Luba's recent post about feeling unwelcome in her local dance community, a post that unexpectedly went viral, with thousands of dancers resonating with her experience. • Manuels reflective post about feeling disconnected at a major European festival, despite being surrounded by music, dancers, and undeniable talent.Together, they ask the question everyone has been whispering but few have been willing to say out loud:Is the dance community losing its purpose, its heart, and the connection that made so many of us fall in love with it in the first place? This episode dives into: • The difference between dancing for community vs. dancing for content • Why so many dancers feel unseen, unwelcome, or “out of place” even in rooms full of people • The emotional toll of feeling disconnected from something that once felt like homeRaw, honest, and long overdue, this episode is for dancers everywhere who've ever questioned their place in the room and for anyone who still believes the dance floor should be the one place you never have to fight for belonging.Support the show-----Our intro and outro music is made by Ashley from Lullaby The Fear Podcast. In this episode of RNRA Digs Deeper, host Christian Swain sits down with veteran music journalist Selena Fragassi to excavate the history of one of modern rock's most significant acts: Pearl Jam. Delving into her beautifully crafted new book, Pearl Jam Live: 35 Years of Legendary Music and Revolutionary Shows, Salena provides a unique perspective on the band's incredible journey. The conversation explores Pearl Jam's origins, born from the ashes of Seattle's "tragedy-stricken" music scene and bands like Mother Love Bone. Fragassi discusses how the band fused the arena-rock grandeur of The Who and Led Zeppelin with the raw, DIY ethos of punk rock, creating a sound that was both monumental and deeply personal.Discover the stories behind Pearl Jam's revolutionary struggle against the corporate music machine, including their famous battle with Ticketmaster and their conscious decision to step away from music videos and mainstream promotion. Fragassi explains how this "era of no" was a survival mechanism that allowed the band to maintain its authenticity and ultimately ensured its remarkable longevity. This in-depth interview also highlights: How Eddie Vedder, an outsider from San Diego, fundamentally altered the band's DNA. [cite: 20:21] The unique, collaborative, and "beautifully incestuous" nature of the Seattle scene that fostered their growth. [cite: 13:12] The evolution of the Pearl Jam live experience, from the raw, chaotic energy of their first-ever show in 1990 to the celebrated institution it is today. Starting this week, we're making prizes more tangible by adding $100 Ticketmaster gift cards for weekly winners, and the prizes will grow as the crowd does. So if you've enjoyed playing, invite your friends to join the HoS NFL and NBA lobbies and let's make this community even bigger.Perhaps Tom P and I will discuss this latest podcast with top level NBA reporter Yaron Weitzman, author of A Hollywood Ending. Yaron's new book on the awkward/sordid LeBron Laker Era has my total recommendation. For a sense of how hot the material is, the Lakers preemptively threatened to sue over the contents, alleging that the author's description of now former owner Jeanie Buss was “misogynistic.” My contention is that Magic Johnson comes off far worse in the book than Jeanie, a topic we get into in this episode.
Darren isn't happy as he finds out he was left out of an invite only event that both Joe and Eoin attended. And it gets worse, as he finds out about some sneaking off between more friends of his. Overall he's feeling very left out, but it's OK because he has a new robot friend to keep him company now.We enter uncharted territory as Darren talks about seduction for the very first time, and Joe pitches an idea for a very adult themed documentary series hosted by Mr. Conway. There's some car talk, as Darren attempts some very bad wheeling and dealing over a new motor.Joe wonders why he's never seen an ad for some of the most popular types of crisps this country has even see, and we get a warning about the dangers of sourdough bread, plus some education on the realities of Irish prawns – a revelation that leaves us mildly stunned. We try to explain what exactly you can expect at a Stall It live show – and it proves hard, because it really is a strange thing, but one we know you'll enjoy. We'll be bringing a brand new show to Vicar Street on Feb 12th, so get your tickets from Ticketmaster now and join us on the night!Send all of your questions and comments to stallit@goloudnow.com

Welcome back to Behind the Stays, presented by Journey. This episode kicks off a special series on the future of travel — conversations recorded live in Austin, Texas, at Expedia Group's EXPLORE Connect — a gathering that brought together some of the most powerful voices in travel tech alongside the top owners and operators of vacation rental management companies from around the world. I sat down with several of Expedia's most influential leaders — the folks guiding brands like Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo — to unpack how they're reimagining discovery, bookings, and experiences in an AI-powered world. In this first conversation, I chat with Larry Plawsky, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Vrbo. And get this — this was actually Larry's first-ever podcast interview. Larry's a brand builder who's spent his career rooting for the underdog — from helping revive Old Spice back in the day to scaling massive two-sided marketplaces like Ticketmaster. And now, he's leading Vrbo into its next chapter within the Expedia Group ecosystem. We dive deep into: How Vrbo plans to take on Airbnb by doubling down on trust and quality — not just scale. The single biggest opportunity Larry sees to increase traveler confidence when booking a home. How Expedia's integrated network of brands — from Hotels.com to One Key — gives Vrbo a unique competitive edge. And how AI is already reshaping discovery on Vrbo — from smart sorting and review summaries to a vision of what travel planning could look like when chat-based search meets marketplace precision. Larry's thoughtful, humble, and sharp — a rare mix of brand soul and analytical rigor — and in this conversation, you'll hear exactly how one of the most iconic names in alternative accommodations plans to redefine trust and loyalty in the years ahead. So grab your coffee, settle in, and enjoy this special conversation with Larry Plawsky, SVP and General Manager of Vrbo, right here on Behind the Stays. Behind the Stays is brought to you by Journey — a first-of-its-kind loyalty program that brings together an alliance of the world's top independently owned and operated stays and allows travelers to earn points and perks on boutique hotels, vacation rentals, treehouses, ski chalets, glamping experiences and so much more. Your host is Zach Busekrus, Head of the Journey Alliance. If you are a hospitality entrepreneur who has a stay, or a collection of stays with soul, we'd love for you to apply to join our Alliance at journey.com/alliance.

The FTC and seven state attorneys general have sued Ticketmaster and Live Nation, alleging deceptive practices and violations of the BOTS Act. The complaint claims the companies secretly worked with ticket brokers, let them bypass security limits, and used “bait-and-switch” pricing tactics that misled consumers. This episode unpacks the case, what it says about the government's focus on junk fees and platform accountability, and the key lessons for businesses conducting pricing tests or managing third-party relationships. Hosted by Simone Roach. Based on a blog post by Paul L. Singer, Beth Bolen Chun, and Abigail Stempson
We open with a sobering follow-up: the future is less about AI toast (though Red Dwarf predicted it) and more about a soul-stripping "infrastructure of meaningless" after an AWS outage proved how fragile the internet is. Corporate overlords, like Elon Musk, are taking note: he finally addressed Starlink's use by Asian scam syndicates, but his attention is mostly on superintelligence, which Wozniak, Prince Harry, and 800 others want banned. Meanwhile, Meta, despite pouring $27 billion into data centers, suddenly cut 600 AI jobs, and Amazon is preparing to automate a half-million warehouse positions, offering drivers AR spy glasses and suggesting a new "Help Me Decide" AI tool to automate the exhausting micro-decision of which air fryer to buy. This dystopian fever dream peaked when Suzanne Somers' widower revealed he built a full-on robotic AI twin of the late actress. Predictably, Tesla stock tumbled, and the crypto grift continued with the pardoning of Binance founder Zhao, leaving SBF to ponder his failed check-bounce in jail.Speaking of soul-crushing, Disney's latest nostalgia raid, Tron: Ares, tanked harder than anticipated, proving not every Gen-X intellectual property is a worthy cash cow. But fear not, there's still great TV to be had: we recommend the clever dramas Slow Horses and The Diplomat Season 3, the high-stakes culinary nightmare Knives Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars, and the surprisingly excellent Gen V (which you must watch before the next season of The Boys). We also got our fix with the Pluribus trailer, Bullet Train, Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, and the deliciously low-stakes reality shows Come Dine With Me, Hotel Costiera, and The Celebrity Traitors UK/Canada. Sadly, we must mourn the end of Food Network's The Kitchen. Yet, no matter how good the show, you still have to deal with Ticketmaster, which is still lying about "fighting bots" while cornering the secondary market. In the world of Apps & Doodads, OpenAI dropped its "Anti-Web" browser, ChatGPT Atlas (a data mule in disguise), and a new app now fakes your vacation photos (perfect for burned-out users). X is poised to sell "rare" usernames for millions (with a terrible subscription catch), while some clever hacker figured out a $60 mod to disable the privacy light on Meta's Ray-Ban spy glasses. Fellow podcast host Dave Bittner joined us to agree that the new Hall of Presidents format is better without the political posturing and confirmed the joy of old-school, purple-ink-smelling Spirit Duplicators (and we checked out a Star Wars fan film trailer for the AT THE LIBRARY section). Don't forget your Tilly Hat! Finally, R.I.P. Soft Cell's musical force Dave Ball, aged 66; the hits still hit.Sponsors:Private Internet Access - Go to GOG.Show/vpn and sign up today.
