Send us a textVacheron Constantin is extremely highly regarded among luxury watch enthusiasts, and for good reason. Not only are they the oldest continuously operating watch brand in the world, but they're also the makers of the most complicated (and second-most complicated) watch ever made. Regarded as part of the "Holy Trinity" along with Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin's dressy watches are among the best out there. But from a sales/hype perspective, watch fans want to see steel sports watches--and the Overseas was Vacheron's only offering in that department until now. For 2025, Vacheron Constantin unleashed a stainless steel version of their beloved 222 model, ref. 4200H/222A-B934. Here's what you should know about the steel Vacheron 222.If you like what you're listening to please let us know!

Jeff Stein is my guest today and I think we all owe this guy a big thank you for his scholarship and efforts he's put forth for the watch community. An attorney by day and collector at heart, Jeff is attributed with starting and running the vintage Heuer compendium known as Onthedash. After discovering a Heuer dash clock back in the day, Jeff went down the same rabbit hole a lot of us do and started collecting. But after getting a sense that the community needed a place to go and have resources for all things vintage Heuer, Jeff sought out to start the website as we know it today and has grown it ever since. We've gotten to know each other a little bit over the last few years and his knowledge and willingness to share never seizes to amaze me. We chat about the life cycles of collecting, how he middle manned a watch I sold to the Heuer archive, and the history of partnerships such as Abercrombie and Heuer. He's a friend, a fantastic collector, and as knowledgeable about the things he loves as one could be. So without further adieu, this is Jeff Stein, for Collectors Gene Radio. On The Dash - http://www.onthedash.com/

Lets get to it! Today we look at Vacheron and Constantine, the oldest Watch company since 1755 and arguably the best watches on the planet. These gems are so gorgeous it brings tears to your eyes. We are looking at the modern line up of Vacherons, and it helps when you know what they are producing today to give you a leg up on collecting their older models. Such as what calibers are being used today and what models the new line is based on. Vacheron routinely looks back at their past models for inspiration on their newer lines of fine timepieces. Write down these lines of theirs and look them up and price them, just to get an idea of prices on your finds and collectables. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/lee-jackson93/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/lee-jackson93/support
Today's guest is the proprietor of J. Earl & Sons, a company that celebrates vintage barware, collecting, and the home bar. As for it's founder, Jeff Parrott has been collecting vintage barware for quite some time. So when 2020 rolled around, Jeff decided to take a tangent where he's Brand Cultivator at Blade and Bow and started J. Earl & Sons doing exactly the aforementioned. Jeff travels just about everywhere hunting for goods, both vintage and new, to add to his personal collection and the shop as well, but my favorite part about collecting vintage barware? Everything can be used, it doesn't break the bank, and you can do it all at J. Earl & Sons.J. Known as the last great rattan dealer, Harvey Schwartz is getting ready to relaunch his infamous rattan company, Tropical Sun. So why is Harvey the last great rattan dealer? Well, at 80 years old he's still running the show and grabbing up all the great rattan known, even if it means going to a swap meet at 5am. To say he loves this stuff is an understatement. His collection spans over 2500pcs, and the best part? It's all for sale. Harvey actually started as an aerospace engineer which has surprisingly helped him in his rattan business more than you would think. He's not only dealing in vintage, but he's bringing the old stuff back and bending the rattan himself. Be sure to check out his store in Los Angeles next time you're around, or his website. Our chat is a bit different than the usual you're used to here, as I really wanted to get Malaika's thoughts on styling, diversification, and what all of this means for us collectors. After moving to New York in 2014, Malaika started working for Mel Ottenberg, you know, Rhianna's stylist. Getting an early exposure to all things luxury has propelled the trajectory of her career and here we are. But all of this had to start somewhere, and it actually began with the collector she looks up to the most. Fratello On Air returns after a bit of a layoff and we discuss a number of things including the new IWC Ingenieur. We're glad to be back with you and we hope you enjoy today's candid show!Folks, we're sorry that we've been away for so long, but vacation, travel, and visitors have gotten in the way. Now, though, we're here and ready to discuss all sorts of topics. The new IWC Ingenieur is the greatest focus, but we talk about loads of other subjects. We kick it all off with some news about travel, a pair of game-worn Jordans, New Era MLB hats, and a visit to the mall in Boca Raton.Handgelenks KontrolleThe Handgelenks Kontrolle is back and Balazs goes first with the new Vulcain Chronograph 1970's. Mike is wearing his newly received MING 22.01 GMT Gilt. This leads to discussions about a possible acquisition in Balazs' future! The IWC Ingenieur and Other New WatchesWe start the main part of the episode with a bit of Watches and Wonders talk. Balazs was on the ground while Mike was writing about some of the new releases. We talk about the new TAG Heuer Carrera, Zenith Defy Shadow, and all the Tudor pieces. Then, it's onto the new IWC Ingenieur and there's a lot of disappointment from the team. Oh, don't get us wrong, we like the watch, but we're semi-confused by the marketing strategy. Announcing a shortage before the watches hit the street feels wrong, especially for a watch that so many have wanted. Finally, we end with some of our favorite watches from the show. Vacheron, Laurent Ferrier, and Rolex make the list!We hope you enjoyed today's episode and we look forward to recording again for next week. As always, if you have any ideas for future shows, please let us know!

Co-Founder of Basecamp and Hey, Jason Fried is pretty known in the watch community as a great collector. While fairly private, sometimes you just can't help but talk about the stuff you love. That's Jason Fried for ya. Jason has authored and co-authored several books, some if not most of which have been New York Times Best Sellers. But how would a Co-Founder of a tech company as big as Basecamp have the time to even collect anything? Well, Jason has actually been preaching a really relaxed work-life balance for a long time and that can be learned about in his books. But what's most intriguing is his love for watches. And that's not all Jason collects... Which gives us the feeling that he was definitely born with the Collectors Gene, but we will let him tell us. Alright, here you go, Jason Fried for Collectors Gene Radio.
Vacheron Constantin stood out this year. No question about it. They released some of the most exciting watches in a very thoughtful way. They paid tribute to their past through releases like the Ref. 222 re-edition, ensured excellence with their Overseas skeleton tourbillon, and committed to artisanship with their Great Civilizations collection and event at the Louvre. Revolution Magazine did an incredible job in their International volume 65 (US issue 23 Fall 2022) describing their success. Wei Koh interviewed CEO Louis Ferla on the success and what made them tick. You can buy the issue of the Revolution Magazine here.Vacheron Constantin's Watches and Wonders releases can be found here, including their ref 222 and new Overseas. We covered Vacheron's event at the Louvre on our podcast here. You can find us on our Website, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook Check out Life on the Wrist Merch!

Ho, Ho, Ho, here we go again. Lets talk higher end watches. What will appreciate long term. What should you buy? Audemars Piguet and Vacheron and Patek are looked at, especially the sport luxury watches made by each brand. What Rolex models have gone up big time? Should you buy them? That is the word, bird. Take it from me, these prices that they are getting is crazy. So we need to adjust to a changing market place. Enjoy and learn at the feet of the master little one. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/lee-jackson93/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/lee-jackson93/support

Atom Moore and I met several years ago during my first visit to Analog Shift when they were still in their WeWork space. I didn't realize we hadn't seen one another since until we connected for this podcast. Strange how time flies. Atom and I are of a similar age, so naturally, we share a lot of the same memories of growing up as teenagers in the 90s. We both devoted a ton of time and energy to the early days of the mountain biking as well as shared an affinity for bands like Metallica. Today, Atom is a professional photographer, primarily acting as a freelancer for Watch brands and companies within the Watch industry. He's gained quite the following and admiration due to his incredible macro photography of some of the most sought after time pieces many of us adore. I certainly encourage you to check out Atom's work as he often partners with the likes of Vacheron, Grand Seiko, and a couple of former brands hosted right here in Autodromo and Brew Watches. However, alongside the stills of close-up content, Atom also shoots video and gives us a wonderful explanation why. This was a fun conversation as Atom takes us down the road of how he grew his appreciation for the medium of photography and walks us through his approach to some his more abstract horological art pieces. We wrap things up of course with some car talk and Atom shared stories of his latest acquisition featuring its own Instagram account so stay tuned for that. This podcast discusses the controversial 2021 Zenith Chronomaster Sport while putting the new chronograph in a historic perspective. There's no denying that Zenith's design team drew heavily on the current Rolex Daytona 116500LN. But this borrowing practice has a long history in Swiss watch design; the 1977 Vacheron Constantin 222 sports watch illustrates how a derivative design can become appreciated in its own right. Today's episode also explores the difference between “independent” watchmakers such as Rolex and the “indies” such as F.P. Journe that are generally identified with modern independent horology.

Allen goes through his top 10 favorites of the year. Not a "best of" list, but a "my favorites" list, including some very expensive and some very affordable watches.
Allen's birthday watch is a Grand Seiko Limited Edition SGBH269, a watch that explores the turning of the seasons from Spring to Fall, just as Allen is turning to the autumn of his life. This episode is a meditation on mortality, nature, dying, living, and being true to your self, all in relation to this fascinating Grand Seiko.
Grand Central Watch's 3rd generation leader, Steve Kivel, has turned his family's business into a high-tech service center with seven full-time watchmakers working full-time in a brand new state of the art facility. Allen and Steve sit down to discuss the ins and outs of proper watch servicing, how to vet your watchmaker, and why spending the extra money on proper servicing should be the norm but, alas, is not.
A true watch tale featuring an Audemars Piguet and the FBI
You watch questions, my Answers, Episode 23
Celebrating the 10th Episode, Allen goes through his top ten watches of all time. It's a personal list, not a top ten best, but a top ten favorite. You'll hear about some very tasty watches and what specific features appeal to Allen, including two watches which remind him of Jerry Garcia's guitar. Oysters, the plantimal not the watch, are discussed in some detail along the way as well, and the birthday watch decision begins to waver again.
In this episode, Matt and Cameron take a deep (and very expensive) dive into the 264-year history of the world's oldest continuously operating watch maker, Vacheron Constantin. Beyond the longevity of the company itself, VC's watches are exquisitely made, frequently complex, and highly customizable from the factory.... for the right price. We have a particularly good point of reference for Vacheron, since Cameron actually used to work there. This episode is available as a video! It's a small part of the wine world but one you should know: the Central Vineyards of the Loire Valley, which include Sancerre, Pouilly-Fumé, Menetou-Salon & others. Great Sauvignon Blanc, up and coming Pinot Noir, and fantastic rosé. History, soils and dorkiness abound in this podcast, which will make your mouth water and have you running out to get these wines ASAP! The Central Loire Vineyards: Overview In the center of the Loire Valley, in the heart of France. All of the Central Vineyard appellations are within 80 kilometres (50 miles) of center of France Continental climate with decent rainfall Appellations Sancerre White, red, and rosé 3 main types of soil in the two appellations: Limestone (known locally as caillottes) – vines planted on white rock Kimmeridgean terres blanches (clay limestone) Silex (flint) In Sancerre, the caillottes and terres blanches account for 40% each and silex accounts for 20% of vineyard soils Often steepest vineyards best: Bué, Chavignol, Champtin Producers: Alphonse Mellot, Domaines Fouassier and Vacheron, Lucien Crochet Pouilly-Fumé and Pouilly-sur-Loire – Pouilly-Fumé only Sauvignon Blanc Pouilly-sur-Loire only Chasselas Soils -- similar to Sancerre Producers: Alexandre Bain, Domaine Didier Dagueneau, Ladoucette Difference between Pouilly and Sancerre: Sancerre is a more cohesive appellation, Pouilly has no clear centre – not touristy Sancerre has strong leading producers: Alphonse Mellot, Jean-Marie Bourgeois, Denis Vacheron and others, to promote the appellation. Pouilly – no cohesion: the late Didier Dagueneau attacked lax practices of his fellow producers. Ladoucette is largest producer is Pouilly -- is an international businessman based in Paris Pouilly has been lower quality than Sancerre in recent years. Shows promise but Sancerre is better quality and reliable Menetou-Salon Southwest of Sancerre: More gently rolling than that of Sancerre Vineyards more dispersed than Pouilly and Sancerre, more variable Revival going on now Producers: Pierre and Isabelle Clément, Domaine du Chatenoy, Domaine Philippe Gilbert Quincy All Sauvignon Blanc First appellation created in Loire Flattest of the areas, prone to hail Reuilly Dry, crisp Sauv Blanc with some Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris for red and dry rosé Slightly better than Quincy Coteaux du Giennois Vines are close to the Loire, mostly on its eastern bank Light-bodied, fruity and crisp, dry Sauvignon Blanc Reds have to be PN and Gamay blend – not good Dry rosé good The limestone soil is flinty. Châteaumeillant – only 1% exported, Although included in the Central Loire, Châteaumeillant is apart from the rest - in the northern foothills of the Massif Central Granitic soil (Granite) Specializes in rosé wine known as vin gris, reds from Gamay and Pinot Noir grapes ____________________________________________ Thank you to our sponsors this week: YOU!
