Episode 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms proves this isn't just another Westeros spin-off — it's something smaller, sweeter, and way more effective. On this episode of Thumb War, we dig into why Dunk & Egg's chemistry is the secret sauce of the series, how seeing Westeros from ground level changes everything, and why this show works even if you don't know every sigil, house, or rebellion. The Bald Prince and His Tall Knight Make Perfect Travel Companions This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl are talking about the new GOT spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. And Wonderman Episode 1. All this and… some Brandon Sanderson news. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Sanderson: 8:45 Wonderman: 19:00 Dunk & Egg: 35:07 Brandon Sanderson's Literary Fantasy Universe ‘Cosmere' Picked Up by Apple TV (Exclusive) https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/brandon-sandersons-mistborn-stormlight-archive-movie-tv-1236487271/ Wonderman (Disney+) Episode 1 – “Matinee” (Premiere) Episode 1 introduces us to Simon Williams (played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II), a struggling actor and stuntman whose career is in a tailspin. After being fired from a TV role and dumped by his girlfriend, Simon is at a crossroads. When he runs into Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley), a fellow actor with an eccentric reputation, he learns Slattery is auditioning for a remake of the classic superhero film Wonder Man — a movie Simon loved as a kid and which inspired him to pursue acting in the first place. Simon pushes for a shot at the role, but his agent refuses. Undeterred, he somehow lands an audition alongside Slattery anyway. Slattery gives him advice that helps him make an impression. Meanwhile, Department of Damage Control agent P. Cleary secretly contacts Slattery with instructions to watch Simon closely because he might have actual superpowers, tying Simon's acting ambitions to real-world MCU stakes. This episode sets up two parallel arcs: Simon's Hollywood hustle and dream of stardom, and the hint that he may be more than just an actor, potentially linking him to actual superhero abilities and the broader Marvel universe. Tone-wise, Episode 1 blends industry satire, comedy, and superhero setup, spotlighting the absurdities of Hollywood while weaving in classic MCU connective tissue. Ratings: Out of 5 Here’s a Note For You… Get Out Darryl: 3.75/5 Brian: 3.8/5 A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (HBO Max) Episode 1 – “The Hedge Knight” This premiere introduces Dunk (Ser Duncan the Tall) and Egg (the boy who becomes his squire), setting up the tone and stakes for the series. It takes place about 100 years before Game of Thrones and focuses on a smaller-scale story full of character and humor rather than sweeping war and politics. Here's what happens: Dunk buries his mentor, Ser Arlan of Pennytree, and takes his sword, shield, and three horses as he heads toward the Ashford tourney, hoping to make his name and find work. At an inn, he meets a young bald boy who asks to be his squire. After initially refusing, Dunk ultimately accepts him and names the boy Egg. At Ashford, Dunk tries to enter the tournament but learns he needs someone reputable to vouch for him. He seeks out knights who knew Ser Arlan, but nobody will put their name on the line for a wandering hedge knight. Along the way we see the rough, earthy humor and grounded Westerosi world the show is leaning into (including some decidedly human moments missing from prior franchise entries). By the end, Dunk officially becomes Ser Duncan the Tall, and he and Egg share a moment under the stars, signaling the start of their journey together. Tone note: it's lighter and more character-focused than Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon, blending heartfelt moments with gritty, grounded humor. Episode 2 – “Hard Salt Beef” In the second episode, Dunk's quest to enter the Ashford tourney continues and the story expands slightly into the world's wider politics and personality. Key beats: Dunk spends much of the episode telling other knights about his mentor Ser Arlan, trying to get someone to vouch for him so he can compete, but keeps getting brushed off. Egg helps by pointing out the unfairness of Dunk needing permission when he's already a knight, showing how their dynamic is evolving. Members of House Targaryen arrive at the tourney — princes including Baelor, Maekar, and Aerion — and their presence adds weight to the event. Dunk overhears a conversation about missing Targaryen children and uses the moment (and a bit of boldness) to appeal directly to Prince Baelor to vouch for him. Baelor does remember Ser Arlan and, while not lavish in praise, quietly ensures Dunk's name is added to the tournament list. Dunk and Egg also start to settle more into the tourney rhythm — from watching performances to joining in games — as Dunk grapples with what legacy and honor really mean in this world. This episode deepens the relationship between Dunk and Egg, introduces more of Westeros's nobility (in a relatively casual, grounded way), and frames Dunk's struggles not just to fight but to matter. Quick Character & World Context Dunk and Egg are adapted from the Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas by George R.R. Martin. The series is intentionally smaller in scale, focusing on relationships and the everyday lives of knights and squires rather than epic political wars or dragons. Welcome to another episode of The Rizzuto Show, the daily comedy show that proves nostalgia is just disappointment with better branding.Today's episode kicks off with the downfall of childhood “investments,” as Magic: The Gathering collectors accuse Hasbro of flooding the market and tanking card values — which immediately sends the crew spiraling into baseball card trauma. Remember when a Ken Griffey Jr. rookie card was supposed to pay for college, a house, and early retirement? Yeah… about that. From there, things take a turn toward the supernatural when we ask the important question: can a rock band curse an NBA team? After an arena employee blames a satanic-looking concert for the Orlando Magic's losing streak, we dive headfirst into modern Satanic Panic, Ghost's spooky theatrics, and whether teams should sage their arenas instead of practicing defense. Then it's off to Westeros, where the new Game of Thrones spinoff raises serious questions — like where everyone goes to the bathroom, why HBO is obsessed with realism in the weirdest ways, and whether giant fake dongs are now part of the network's brand strategy. Things escalate quickly as the crew debates gratuitous nudity, legacy characters, and which original GoT character would theoretically win a very unnecessary competition. The back half of this daily comedy show delivers a full round of Crap on Celebrities, including music collabs, Super Bowl ads released way too early, outrageous ticket prices, Dirty Dancing sequels, James Bond movies that aged like milk, and a Ken doll promo video that is genuinely unsettling. Add birthdays, pop culture hot takes, and classic Rizz Show derailments, and you've got another beautifully unhinged episode. If you like your pop culture commentary sarcastic, your nostalgia roasted, and your comedy slightly concerned for humanity — welcome home.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshowConnect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShowHear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MOSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

This week, Da7e and Neil are back in Westeros learning maybe a little too much about Ser Arlan of Pennytree as A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms continues to track the rise of his protege, Ser Duncan the Tall. In The Calm [04:58], they do a bit of Banner Tracking as more famous houses join the fray with a ferocious burst of jousting action. They also discuss the arrival of House Targaryen to the party and break down all the princes, blonde and otherwise. And before they head into the spoilery Storm section, Neil does a deep dive into the currency of Westeros so that everyone can convert their silver stags into gold dragons as they tearfully sell their most beloved horse. Then in The Storm [01:01:38], Da7e has questions about the Targaryen family tree, their current obsession with the Blackfyre Rebellion, and the tradition of houses changing sigils over time. They also breakdown the episode 3 teaser and what secrets it's hiding in plain sight before discussing some alleged episode titles for the rest of the season.Next week, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms continues with episode three, "The Squire" on Sunday evening, then Da7e and Neil will be back in your feeds with their deep dive on Monday afternoon. To interact with the show, send your comments and questions to stormofspoilers@gmail.com, and follow us on Twitter/X and Bluesky @Da7eandNeil.You can also support Da7e and Neil and get all kinds of bonus content (from the Game of Thrones era to the LOST rewatch to our Twin Peaks rewatch project to our current Adventure Pod and Hannibal watch project) by subscribing to our Patreon here: patreon.com/Da7eandNeil

Bone Temple (2026) is an upcoming horror movie that's already gaining attention as one of the most disturbing and intense films of the year. In this video, we break down everything we know about Bone Temple 2026, including the plot, trailer details, release rumors, hidden lore, and why this movie could become the next viral horror hit. Set around a cursed ancient temple built from human bones, Bone Temple follows a group of explorers who awaken an evil entity tied to forbidden rituals and dark mythology. As the horror escalates, survival becomes impossible and the true purpose of the Bone Temple is revealed. With brutal imagery, psychological terror, and a claustrophobic atmosphere, this film is being compared to movies like As Above, So Below, The Ruins, and The Green Inferno. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series set in the world of Westeros, based on George R. R. Martin's Tales of Dunk and Egg. Taking place decades before the events of House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones, the show follows Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) and his young squire Aegon V Targaryen (Egg) as they travel across the Seven Kingdoms, encountering knights, kings, conspiracies, and the fading legacy of dragons. Well Star Wars fans can continue to argue, because Kathleen Kennedy stepping down certainly wont stop them. But something to stop to listen to, is George RR Martin telling all to the Hollywood Reporter. Plus, Fallout Season 2 is not falling behind season 1, people just don't remember how TV works. Ubisoft decided to lay a big one on the gaming industry by cancelling another Prince of Persia game, and Netflix wants to keep WB movies on the big screen if the merger goes through. That and more on this weeks episode.

First up, Dana hops on the call to decode the unspoken truths and dream imagery of Kleber Mendonça Filho's film The Secret Agent. Set in 1970s Recife, Brazil and starring a very charming Wagner Moura, the film is a heterodox brew of political thriller, magical realism, and attentive character study about the everyday surreality of life under dictatorship.Next, it's back to Westeros with a discussion of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, a Game of Thrones prequel set 100 years before the original show based on George R.R. Grounded and surprisingly funny, don't expect dragons in this knight's tale. Finally, they turn to “Gluttons for Punishment,” a recent Vulture article by Lila Shapiro about UPenn religious studies professor Justin McDaniel using some extreme, unorthodox measures to get his students to finish books. In an exclusive bonus episode for Slate Plus subscribers, the panel talks to Laura about the secret pleasures of wood stacking as discussed in her recent piece “The Art of the Holzhausen.”EndorsementsNadira: Some melancholy shoegaze pop from Scandinavia, specifically the albums Goodbyehouse by Snuggle and Big City Life by Smerz.Laura: The novels of Robert Jackson Bennett in his Shadow of the Leviathan series including Hugo-winning The Tainted Cup and A Drop of Corruption.Steve: The Substack essay “The Wall Looks Permanent Until It Falls Down” by Adam Bonica about the cost of American exceptionalism. And a bonus one from Dana: Pictures of Ghosts, the documentary by The Secret Agent director Kleber Mendonça Filho about Recife, Brazil in the 1970s.--Email us your thoughts at culturefest@slate.com. Mackelly and Simon sympathize with her.Chapter Review:Daenerys Targaryen attends a banquet thrown for the Yunkai'i to celebrate the peace. The accords hold, no re-enslavement, no more freeing of the existing slaves, but Daenerys is far from pleased that a slave market has been opened outside her walls - technically not in violation, but an obvious goad to her.To ensure a peaceful evening, hostages have been sent to the Yunkai'i, including Daario Naharis. Probably for the best because one of the envoys from Yunkai is Brown Ben Plum. He tries to smooth things over with Daenerys, but she's still bridling at his betrayal. She asks Barristan Selmy to make overtures to the sellsword companies, not believing that this peace can truly last. She takes Quentyn Martell to see the dragons, and urges him to go home. He wants to stay and fight for her. That night Hizdahr Zo Loraq drunkenly consummates his marriage and hopes for a son as he falls asleep. Daenerys has reason to doubt that his wish will be answered. We break down the premiere, the world building, and what this smaller, more grounded story brings to the ever expanding Game of Thrones universe. From first impressions of Dunk and Egg to the tone, pacing, and how it compares to past HBO fantasy epics, we cover the highs, the question marks, and everything in between. We also talk expectations for the rest of the season, standout moments that caught our attention, and whether this series has what it takes to stand on its own outside the shadow of dragons, thrones, and large scale wars. Grab your cloak and settle in, because we've got plenty of takes, laughs, and speculation for what's to come in Westeros.

Spoilers, profanity, Jaime x Brienne. Ser Duncan the Tall and his mysterious hairless squire "Egg" start their adventures in episode 1 of the first season of HBO's latest foray into Westeros. We love the casting, we love the tone, and we love the little digs at Game of Thrones. Is there more book dialogue than original dialogue? Is Tanselle a puppeteer or is she more of special effects artist? Is Ser Lyonel Baratheon the Laughing Storm worth the UTI? More importantly, is half this episode just us talking about George's latest interview with the Hollywood Reporter? AKotS. A Song of Ice and Fire. We're riding back into Westeros with Dunk & Egg, George R.R. Martin's lighter, lore-rich prequel following the unlikely duo of Ser Duncan the Tall and his sharp squire, Egg—set about 90 years before Game of Thrones. We break down how this series fits between House of the Dragon and ASOIAF, dig into the three original novellas, and react to a pilot that's surprisingly breezier (yes, including some truly unhinged Westerosi gross-out moments). From tourneys at Ashford to meta jokes, lighter music, and the birth of a legendary partnership, we wrap by picking favorite moments and deciding if we're all in for the season ahead.
