    Today, I am speaking with Colm O Brien, who works with the charity organisation, CARI (Children At Risk in Ireland). Colm is extremely passionate about the work he does with CARI who help support children who have experience child sexual abuse and their families.The purpose of this conversation is to help raise awareness of the organisation and the much needed funds to help see more children and families at their Dublin and Limerick based offices.At the start of the pandemic, there were almost 100 children on the waiting list for CARI's services.“We are the best in the world at what we do, it's just shocking that we have to do it at all”, says Colm O Brien, General Manager of CARI (Children At Risk in Ireland).It costs about 10k to see and facilitate 1 family for 12 months. CARI's waiting list is at a record high of 250 children (Oct 2022) and their families.     Interacting with animals has been shown to decrease levels of cortisol (a stress-related hormone) and lower blood pressure. Today we are going to be talking about pets and how they add longevity to our lives. Pets, especially dogs and cats, can reduce loneliness, increase feelings of social support, and boost your mood. Caring for an animal can help children grow up more secure and active. Pets also provide valuable companionship for older adults. We will also be bringing in essential oils into the conversation and how Jan integrated the use of essential oils into her work. Jan Jeremias, MSc is a certified yoga teacher and a reflexologist, and has an extensive background in science and health. Jan worked in clinical infectious disease and cancer research centers at Cornell University Medical College and Mount Sinai Medical School in New York City for over 20 years. She was diagnosed with a rare disease called Myasthenia gravis. Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a chronic autoimmune disorder in which antibodies destroy the communication between nerves and muscle, resulting in weakness of the skeletal muscles. Myasthenia gravis affects the voluntary muscles of the body, especially those that control the eyes, mouth, throat and limbs.Sarah quickly realized that her career working in the salon was unsustainable because of the frequent episodes of MG muscle weakness, especially in her hands.Sarah worked with a coach prior to her diagnosis and saw the positive impact coaching had on her own life.     We know that sleep and the food we eat have a very big connection. Overeating and eating convenience foods is a problem many of us are encountering as a result not sleeping well. So when you sleep better, you have a probability of eating better too. Studies have clearly shown that sleep deprivation can alter the blood glucose and hormones involved in regulating metabolism. This in the long term, has been shown to have an increased risk of obesity, stroke and type 2 diabetes. In this episode, I look at nutrients that can help how well we sleep and how much sleep we get. Paul has no doubt that staying positive and focused saved his life. 23 sessions of Intensive chemotherapy within the first 9 days after admission and a total of 6 months in hospital gave him the belief and determination to fight.
