Vojtěch Meluzín is the founder and CEO of MeldaProduction, a Czech-based audio software company renowned for its innovative and versatile audio plugins. Born and raised in the Czech Republic, Meluzín's journey into music and technology began early. He started programming at the age of 10 and was already creating music on an Atari using Cubase by the age of 8. Meluzín pursued his passion for music and technology through formal education, culminating in a university degree where he developed a GUI system for plugins as part of his diploma work. His initial foray into audio software development was the creation of MDrummer, a project that began as a school assignment but evolved into a commercial product. Encouraged by a peer to market his creation, Meluzín improved MDrummer significantly and decided to venture into the audio plugin industry independently. Under his leadership, MeldaProduction has grown to offer over 120 plugins, including the flagship MSoundFactory and MTurboComp. Meluzín is known for his hands-on approach, having developed the company's custom framework without relying on third-party SDKs, allowing for complete control and optimization. BIO: Benn Jordan's career began in the late 1990's as a recording artist most widely released under the moniker “The Flashbulb”. A decade later, Benn would become synonymous with artist advocacy after he purchased his music rights back from record labels, formed a non-profit publisher, and challenged the early models of digital music distribution by using peer-to-peer file transfers instead of iTunes. This led to Benn being a consultant for Bandcamp before the service launched in 2007. After expanding his non-profit to carry a music education school and community center in Chicago, Benn moved to the Atlanta area in 2017 and started what has now become one of the most popular YouTube channels in the pro-audio and audio technology space. The channel now exists under Benn's non-profit umbrella and funds data-science and the never ending challenge of finding ethical business models that can make the music business easier to navigate for artists and creators. During this time his unique relationship with audio-related businesses and organizations expanded as fast as his amount of viewers and public reach. Benn Jordan doesn't exactly keep it a secret that he's discontent with the way independent artists have been treated by the tech industry, and he is very proactive about getting ahead of the curve and attempting to help write and set ethical standards for AI audio technology, and holds patents in technology fighting the non-consensual training of generative AI. Ainonow is an interdisciplinary and enigmatic artist focused on electronic music production. His musical journey began playing the viola in an orchestra at the age of nine, where he began to fall in love with music. However, the classical world alone was not enough to satisfy his musical curiosity. Swirling in and out of bands while playing bass guitar, he experimented with different styles until eventually discovering underground electronic music and hip hop. Inspired by the hypnotic beats and hard-hitting bass of these genres, he dove into electronic music production and the infinite timbres permitted by this new approach to music creation. On his critically acclaimed, debut two-track EP Exile Ainonow showcased some of his range in the genre of drum & bass starting out with the title track Exile, an industrial, raw, and ruthlessly rhythmic minimal jungle track. The second track of the EP, Triturate, then launches into a meticulously layered, high energy neurofunk song that holds nothing back. He followed up his debut release with Bedlam, a deep neuro drum & bass song blending sinister soundscapes with aggressive beats and haunting melodies, alongside fellow artist Slaythoven. Now, he has released yet another single, Forlorn, a liquid roller drum & bass track that plays heavily with tension and release, combining intricate beats and ambient textures. With such a diverse background and range of influences, Ainonow's tracks traverse a broad spectrum of sonic landscapes. Combining elements of dark and heavy drum & bass, broken beat halftime and experimental bass music, he takes his listeners on a musical journey soaked in organic textures. As one of the most forward-thinking, rising artists in the world of underground electronic music, Ainonow's music speaks to the power of experimentation and the limitless possibilities of creative expression. Seppa has been producing beats for over 15 years, always finding new ways to keep the dance floor exciting. After working with a variety of small labels as Duskky, it was Wonk#ay Records (which he now co-runs with Bunkle and Aytch) that really pushed him into becoming what he is today. Playing a variety of parties, big and small, gave him a feel for what really works and that has influenced his productions up to the present. In 2015 he changed his name to Seppa, releasing a single entitled “Trojan/Coriolis” on AutomAte Recordings in February 2016, which was followed up by the EP ‘Homunculus' in April that year. In November 2016 he released the ‘Displaced' EP, which covered a variety of atmospheres and speeds whilst keeping a consistently dance floor friendly sound. After co-founding the record label Slug Wife, he turned out a wide variety of material, including his two solo albums to date, 'More' (2018) and 'Split' (2020), both of which were received to great acclaim. He's also put out two albums with collaborator Chalky, entitled 'Bright Spots' (2018) and 'Strange Changes' (2020), exploring instrument driven Jazz flavours and psychedelia. His beat tape, "Whack Lack Vol. 1" (2018), has also become a firm fan favourite alongside numerous Remixes, Singles and EPs. Having now left Slug Wife behind, and after a few years of big life things - namely becoming a father and a husband - Seppa returns in 2024 with his third full length album, ‘See It Through'. Featuring driving boom bap beats and his inimitable taste for otherworldly soundscapes it's a narrative experience from start to finish, demanding many full listens to unearth all the hidden details. Show Takeaways: Brain-computer interfaces have the potential to revolutionize music creation, but there are challenges to overcome, such as data transfer and the role of musical knowledge. AI can be a useful tool in music production, from generating lyrics to providing information about plugins and audio files. Creativity is subjective, and the definition of creativity can vary from person to person. AI can be creative in its ability to generate music, but a sense of ownership and sentimental value may be lacking. Imperfections and randomness can add depth and authenticity to music production, and tools like Eurorack can provide unique sounds and experiences. Language has limitations in expressing emotions in music, and the complexity of defining concepts like holes and chairs highlights the challenges of categorization. This podcast episode will delve into the life of David Mordechai Packouz, a former American arms dealer, musician, and inventor born on February 17, 1982. Packouz joined forces with Efraim Diveroli in September 2005 at AEY Inc., an arms company that quickly secured numerous contracts worth millions. Their notable achievement was a nearly $300 million contract in 2007 to supply the Afghan Army with vast quantities of ammunition, which controversially included prohibited Chinese ammunition, leading to significant legal and ethical issues. Packouz played a key role in concealing the origin of these munitions, resulting in a sentence of seven months of house arrest for conspiracy to defraud the United States. His story caught public attention and was later depicted in the 2016 film War Dogs, where Packouz made a cameo appearance. Beyond his controversial past, Packouz has reinvented himself as an inventor and CEO of Singular Sound, where he developed the BeatBuddy, a guitar pedal drum machine, showcasing his transition from arms dealing to music technology. Channeling a love affair with classic '90s hip-hop, an affinity for otherworldly themes and an ear for raw funk, Barclay Crenshaw uses his given birth name to bare his soul and deliver a slowed-down, emotive collection of collaborations and instrumentals. His 2017 self-titled debut album was a left-field departure from his better-known alias, Claude VonStroke, but the quality is undeniably the same. This project represents a mixture of modern bass and organic beats blended with gorgeous melodic moments and underlying grittiness to create an experience that is eclectic, expressive and expansive. Coded art and epic visuals depicting ancient alien abductions and explorations of time and space furthers the sense of mystery and the unknown, harking back to the past while gazing into the future. Benn Jordan's career began in the late 1990's as a recording artist, most widely released under the moniker “The Flashbulb”. Benn Jordan doesn't exactly keep it a secret that he's discontent with the way independent artists have been treated by the tech industry, and he is very proactive about getting ahead of the curve and attempting to help write and set ethical standards for AI audio technology. This is Thys (Thijs de Vlieger): DJ, producer and composer from the north of the Netherlands. His DJ sets are a reflection of a two-decade-long musical course. With razor- sharp and unexpected mixing, he seamlessly blends a multitude of bass heavy genres. Creating energetic waves, not afraid to make bold leaps, but never losing sight of the groove. When producing club music De Vlieger loves to mix up BPMS and moods. His recent “Shoulder To Shoulder” EP is a clear statement of intent in that regard: a love letter to club music and the intuitive feeling of togetherness that loud music in a dark room can unlock for us. But when writing music in a more “composer” role, the range stretches even wider: Repeated collaborations with Amon Tobin, a short film for Iris Van Herpen with renowned harpist Lavinia Meijer (Biomimicry), a feature film with Salvador Breed (Mycelia; unreleased at the time of writing), three scores for contemporary dance performances, writing for full symphonic orchestra and classical ensembles, and an album composed for church organ, cello and viola, with the organ recorded by De Vlieger himself (unreleased): Thys will not be tied down to one sound or genre. As a member of widely recognised electronic music trio Noisia, Thys has toured the world for decades, has collaborated with and remixed a range of top tier artists like The Prodigy and Skrillex, and scored for AAA videogames such as DMC: Devil May Cry and Motorstorm: Apocalypse.
