RNIB Connect Radio's Toby Davey is joined again by Vidar Hjarding MBE, Inclusion and Diversity Consultant for ITV News across England, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Channel Islands for the next in his regular Connect Radio audio described theatre reviews. This week Vidar was reviewing the audio described performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat at the Birmingham Hippodrome Theatre on Saturday 9 April 2022 with audio description by professional describer Julia Grundy. This is the UK tour of the London Palladium production of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's multi-award winning Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat with cast that includes Alexandra Burke, Jason Donovan (this time playing the role of Pharaoh) and Jac Yarrow. The show features songs that have gone on to become pop and musical theatre classics, including Any Dream Will Do, Close Every Door To Me, There's One More Angel In Heaven and Go, Go, Go Joseph. Vidar began by saying that going to see Joseph was a bit of a trip down memory lane for him as Joseph was his first musical theatre experience and also with this tour welcoming back Jason Donavan to Joseph but this time as Pharaoh and it was Jason playing Joseph in that production that Vidar saw a few years ago. Vidar also talked about the great description by Julia Grundy and how Joseph was also one of Julia's favourite shows which certainly came across in her description. Vidar ended by saying that he would definitely recommend this touring production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat as a delightful musical for all the family which has certainly stood the test of time too. The London Palladium production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat continues on tour around the UK until the middle of October and more details can be found by visiting the Joseph the Musical website below and clicking on to the link for the UK tour - https://www.josephthemusical.com (Image shows RNIB logo. Alexandra Burke shot to fame as the 2008 winner of The X Factor. She became the first British female solo artist to have a million-selling single and went on to have a successful career as both a recording artist and a performer: her lead roles in the stage adaptations of The Bodyguard and Sister Act met with rave reviews. But behind the public profile were private battles: her beloved mother was dying, she was subjected to racism in the music industry and her story was frequently misreported in the media. Alexandra joins me to talk about managing this difficult duality and what it taught her about her own strength and resilience. She tells me about never thinking she's good enough, learning how to set boundaries, losing herself in relationships, failing to put herself first and the grief of losing her mum. We also talk about how, in the wake of the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020, she chose to speak out about the racism she endured and the impact this had on her. I'm not sure I've ever connected with someone as instantly as I did with Alexandra! She's an amazing, vibrant, warm-hearted soul who understands that being open about her failures is actually the key to self-growth. This is one of the most emotional episodes I've ever recorded. I'm so grateful to Alex for the beautiful gift of her vulnerability. Laza Morgan was Literally born and raised in a musical cradle. He was heavily influenced by the reggae music of household and the records made by his father, Jamaican music legend and hit maker Denroy Morgan, who stormed his way onto American radio in the early 1980's with his club anthem “I'll do anything for you”. With his family's strong Jamaican roots and frequent trips to kingston and St.Thomas as driving inspirations, it didn't take long for Laza to completely embrace the world of music. His experiences in Springfield and Brooklyn influenced him heavily too as he began to incorporate Hip Hop, R&B and Pop into his musical lexicon. fter graduating from high school, Laza and two of his siblings formed the Hip Hop/Reggae group LMS. They toured the world with Morgan Heritage, the internationally recognized roots reggae band founded by his father and several of his brothers and sisters.2010 proved to be the culmination of many years of hard work that Laza had put into his craft. He signed with Elektra records in February. Laza was then featured on british pop sensation Alexandra Burke's hit single “Start Without You” which topped the UK and European singles charts in September. He was also featured on Flo Rida's hit single “21” from the album “The Only One”. His forthcoming Elektra debut yielded a hit single “This Girl” that was featured in Disney's feature film Step Up 3D and its smash soundtrack. “This Girl” generated over 8 million hits on youtube and created a buzz that span the globe. Laza's throwback second single “One By One” was a hypnotic love song featuring dancehall idol Mavado, who is now signed to the We The Best music group.
