L'IA s'est installée dans notre quotidien en un temps record, à une vitesse qui fascine autant qu'elle effraie, et qui bien souvent nous empêche de penser cette révolution en cours. Si la révolution numérique constitue une mutation comparable à l'apparition de l'écriture alphabétique, comme l'affirmaient déjà Nora et Minc en 1978, et si l'écriture constitue une « technologie intellectuelle » qui transforme nos manières de penser, comme le montrait Goody dans les années 1970, alors le développement fulgurant de l'IA générative ne représente pas seulement une révolution technologique et industrielle, mais ouvre aussi une révolution psychique, cognitive et culturelle.Ces nouvelles « machines d'écriture » amorcent une nouvelle étape dans l'automatisation du langage, qui soulève de nombreux enjeux. Si l'écriture alphabétique avait donné lieu à une « raison graphique », je soutiendrai que les IA génératives risquent de conduire à une « déraison computationnelle », en prenant de vitesse les activités d'interprétation et de réflexion par les calculs probabilistes.Pour faire face à ce risque, j'insisterai sur la nécessité de concevoir et de développer des technologies numériques herméneutiques et délibératives, permettant de soutenir les activités de pensée, et non de les court-circuiter. À travers plusieurs exemples, je montrerai qu'il est possible de mobiliser les technologies d'« intelligence artificielle » pour produire de nouveaux instruments spirituels, afin de mettre les automates numériques au service de nouvelles formes d'intelligences.Anne AlombertAnne Alombert est maîtresse de conférences en philosophie contemporaine à l'université Paris-VIII. Selon elle, «la notion d'«intelligence artificielle» recouvre une nouvelle révolution industrielle, qui implique le risque de l'automatisation et de la prolétarisation de la pensée». Elle est l'invitée de ce numéro du magazine IDÉES. Spécialiste de la pensée de Bernard Stiegler qu'elle est venue expliquer dans l'émission, professeure de Philosophie, spécialiste des nouvelles technologies et de leur impact anthropologique, Anne Alombert analyse à sa façon, claire et précise, notre servitude volontaire face à l'IA. Selon elle, ce qui caractérisait notre époque, ce serait la naissance d'une forme de bêtise artificielle née de la prolétarisation de nos capacités expressives (écrire, parler, créer) par les machines. Le risque est l'appauvrissement de nos capacités intellectuelles. En nous laissant croire à l'existence de «machines pensantes», le terme d'intelligence artificielle nous empêche de penser véritablement. Il dissimule l'idéologie des grandes entreprises qui se sont approprié ces technologies, leurs infrastructures et leurs modèles économiques. L'usage massif des IA génératives entraîne une disruption des relations humaines et une délégation de l'expression à des systèmes algorithmiques. Cela conduit à une uniformisation et une perte de singularité dans nos échanges. Plutôt que d'opposer machines et humains, la jeune chercheuse propose d'interroger leur évolution afin de comprendre les effets des automates sur nos esprits, nos cultures et nos sociétés. Malgré ce constat critique, Anne Alombert ne fait pas montre de pessimisme. Elle affirme qu'il est possible de réorienter ces technologies pour les mettre au service de l'intelligence collective et de la démocratisation de l'espace médiatique, à condition de les concevoir comme des outils de contribution, et non d'imitation ou d'automatisation. Cet essai est à la fois lucide et stimulant. Openigloo is a new startup that aims to bring transparency to NYC's apartment-hunting process by gathering public information on thousands of rental buildings in the five boroughs into a single app. On this episode we chat with Allia Mohamed the founder of Openigloo who shares the story of the platform's launch in 2020, the unique ways in which they collect and aggregate data on the rental market, and how renters are using and responding to having this information. "I was standing outside of buildings talking to people walking in and out to ask them, 'How do you like living here?'" Mohamed, who started to envision a website that made this information easily accessible, said. "Could we crowdsource this data? Could we get people to share their experiences and combine it with city data to provide this background?"
