It's Friday, and we're rounding up the biggest stories of the week. First, CEO of Denver-based Liberty Energy Chris Wright — also known as the guy who drank fracking fluid on camera to “prove” it was safe — is President-elect Donald Trump's pick to lead the Department of Energy. Who is Wright, and what would his appointment mean for the climate crisis? Then, the city has proposed building pickleball courts to fill the vacant lot at Colfax and Broadway. Will pickleball players go for it? Host Bree Davies is joined by stand-up comedian Joshua Emerson and Denver Post environmental reporter Noelle Phillips to talk climate change, local recreation, Westernaires' problematic Native American reenactments, a new pizza spot coming to Cap Hill, and more wins and fails of the week. Bree mentioned the proposed pedestrian bridges to the Capitol and the Evans School going from an artist studio space to a beer garden. Joshua discussed the Douglas County School District and their decision to postpone an AP African American studies course. What do you think? This week - and for the foreseeable future anyway - residential real estate agents & REALTORS will be altering the way they do business. CNBC's Diana Click explained why earlier this year, and a Chicago TV sit-down with a closing attorney and broker/agent sort of gives you a proper sense where (and why) the industry's changing. Did I mention I'm a residential REALTOR? Well I am, and I'm only too eager to share my audible eye-rolling over all of this. Then, the opinions abound in the aftermath of Georgia school superintendent Richard Woods' stumbling, fumbling and bumbling through defunding AP African American studies before being called out by those in his own party and eventually set straight by Attorney General Chris Carr. Well, Woods relented, but in the aftermath of that, the AJC offered up opinions from a former Jasper County Republican leader who opines "Racism is not dead," Maureen Downey weighing in on how the same party's 'divisive concepts' law is at the heart of the attempt to defund the curriculum, and historian Clennon L. King on black society's role in teaching their history to their children. I don't disagree, but I also do, sort of.

School superintendent Richard Woods has reversed his initial decision to deny state funding for a new Advanced Placement African American history curriculum.  On today's episode of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Politically Georgia podcast, state Senator Nikki Merritt joins the AJC's Patricia Murphy, Greg Bluestein and Bill Nigut to discuss the decision to move forward with funding for the program in Georgia's public schools. But first,  Stephen Lawson, a former top aide to Republican Speaker of the Georgia House Jon Burns joins the podcast to talk about the damage Donald Trump's attacks on Governor Brian Kemp may do to party unity and Trump's efforts to win Georgia. Plus, there are indications from election projection experts and a new private poll that Kamala Harris is turning the tide in Georgia's presidential race. Kinda ... "curious" ... that Georgia's school superintendent Richard Woods took more than a week to reveal why he pulled state funding for AP African Americans studies. Turns out its the state's two-year old "divisive concepts" law. What's funny about that is governor Brian Kemp - who signed the law - wasn't aware that was Woods' rationale. We know that because, remember, Kemp made a big public spectacle by sending a letter asking for Woods' reasoning. Gwinnett County Schools - the state's largest - is already abandoning AP African American studies curriculum. The root of the problem? Questioning 'intersectionality' - which, like "critical race theory" - is a relatively new term and one hastily demonized by conservatives eager to see to it future generations of Americans are less and less aware of the nation's awful history on race, racism and bias.

What must it have been like for a Democratic Party delegate to keep a brave face outwardly while stressing the "known unknowns" internally? I spoke with Seth Taylor, a Georgia DNC delegate - proudly, he'll tell you, a delegate on the spectrum - who took the rollercoaster ride of uncertainty the past month. Hear how he weathered the debate debacle, its aftermath and the inevitable transition from "Joe" to "Kamala." Georgia NAACP chapter President Gerald Griggs also joined me today to weigh in on the magnitude of there being a black woman as a major political party's presumptive nominee, as well as Georgia's superintendent of schools' decision to pull state funding for AP African American studies. Lastly, I've been so focused on the insanity of the 2024 Presidential cycle that I've kept this "open tab" in my mind (and laptop) on the brewing Georgia Elections Board scandal: did they hold a meeting and pass policy in violation of Georgia law? One watchdog group believes so.

Just another example of speech policing. This is not legislation, this is persecution. This is another example of religion finding its way into public life via government under the guise of parental rights. Just discrimination, repackaged and re-branded. It should disgust everybody, including Christians.Florida is determined to be Gilead from The Handmaid's Tale. We have seen their effort to make slavery seem like an internship while blocking AP African-American studies. AP Psychology is banned because it teaches that some people are different than others.Students and teachers are the ones that are getting the brunt of this. It prevents teachers from being queer supportive, preventing them from having an authentic relationship with the students. It destroys the trust that teachers and students establish with one another. Teachers have lost the ability to exercise their own judgment, they are afraid of getting in trouble. They're losing the ability to educate. Why should it matter to the state what name you're called? Under this rule, it would not allow a teacher who wants to respect their student as who they are as a person to do so. They have to call them by their dead name and use pronouns they don't identify with. It's not only a lack of respect, it puts that student at a greater risk for suicide.Societies don't collapse because people are transgender or gay. People have been transgender and gay all through human history. The reason we hear about a supposed trans agenda taking over schools is because the fascists want to use it as a weapon. The LGBTQIA community is losing basic human rights that we should all be guaranteed. It is evident that these legislators really don't care. This grab at a low-hanging fruit issue is one way they stay in power.Society is ultimately responsible, it's easy to get caught up in this game of pointing fingers, but we have to take responsibility for our involvement. This is happening all across the United States., draconian laws are preventing people from being who they are.Governments need to help solve problems, get things done, and not waste time and money persecuting others. Why don't we address poverty, or actually improve quality and access to our educational system?Governors and Presidents get the most attention, but they aren't as important as your legislators, they are the people that are making and passing laws.Instead, we pass laws like this.

Why did the College Board, which oversees Advanced Placement classes, change certain parts of the AP African American studies course framework? Post Reports digs into the latest controversy about the new AP course, still in its pilot stages.Read more:After Florida's Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis came out against the new AP African American studies course, it sparked a controversy. The state said it wouldn't allow students to take the class because it lacked educational value. Then the College Board changed the course framework just in time for its debut on the first day of Black History Month. Many questioned whether conservative leaders prompted changes to the program. Where the word “systemic” was mentioned in the previous plan for the class, it was completely removed from the new one. The same with other topics, such as Black Lives Matter and reparations, which went from 15 mentions in April 2022 to one in February 2023. Sam and Emma host Julia Rock, staff reporter at The Lever, to discuss her recent reporting on the Norfolk Southern train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, as well as recent meetings surrounding restaurant union negotiations. Then, they're joined by Suzanne Nossel, CEO of PENAmerica, to discuss the organization's efforts to combat censorship efforts at the state level by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on Dianne Feistein's tentative retirement, Arizona's Nitric Acid spill, Idaho's ban on gender-affirming care, Oklahoma stripping a Lesbian mom of her parental rights, and the GOP getting upset over the FTC doing its job, before diving deeper into the House Republican's frantic search for SOMETHING to cut, as the Senate GOP takes defense (even the woke stuff), social security, and medicare off of the table. Julie Rock then joins as she dives right into the recent regulatory debacle in East Palestine, walking through the last decade of deregulation of the freight rail industry, an age dubbed the “buyback era” by workers as their employers purchased stocks for the C-Suite while cutting spending on infrastructure, inspections, and workforce and safety redundancy, before looking to the role of lobbying in ensuring this deregulation, focusing particularly on the freight industry's promotion of a mechanical break upgrade, only to turn around and object to any attempt to regulate the implementation of these breaks while carrying hazardous products, successfully having the Trump administration repeal the requirements while Pete Buttigieg has continued to lag on its reimplementation. Rock then shifts to her recent experiences sitting in on a National Restaraunt Association conference where NLRB General Council spoke on her agency's crackdown on union-busting tactics in the industry, the fear held by C-Suites nationwide of Gen-Z labor organizing, and the tactics the corporations are looking to employ moving forwards. Next, Suzanne Nossel parses through how her work on censorship has progressed over the last decade, shifting from hyper-localized protests by parents to a full-scale legislative assault from state governments, walking through the myriad education-based restrictions coming out of Governor DeSantis' office in Florida and the massive difference between interpersonal disputes over speech and authoritarianism at the invocation of the state, before wrapping up the interview by tackling the specifics of the College Board's battle over AP African American history. And in the Fun Half: Sma and Emma discuss Minnesota's trans refuge bill, what it can do to fight back against the gender-affirming care bans cropping up across the US, and parse through Tim Pool running coverage for both the corporations and regulators responsible for East Palestine's chemical catastrophe, which Dion from Kentucky helps them expand on. Patrick from LA then walks Sam and Emma through an extended Men's Rights hypothetical that begins with reproductive rights for all pronouns and ends with balancing the rights of courageous men with those of blue-haired cows (women), plus, your calls and IMs! On Wednesday's Mark Levin Show, Brian Mudd from WJNO fills in for Mark. Would Tyre Nichols be alive today if not for Black Lives Matter and their nonstop hatred of law enforcement? The Memphis Police force has been lacking in numbers since BLM and forced hiring standards were lowered to join the force, and even lifted a ban on hiring convicted felons. Two of the five officers involved in Nichols' death were hired because of these lower standards. At the same time, Gov. Ron DeSantis refusing to play along with the woke agenda forced the College Board to pull back on their AP African American studies course. It exposed who was behind this radically woke agenda fashioned as education, designed by a radical Marxist professor who wants to abolish the police. This is why President Biden and his Department of Justice intimidated parents who came to schoolboard meetings to stop this being taught to their kids. Also, our national debt is so high that each individual now owes about a quarter of a million dollars thanks to the Biden Administration's endless spending. The economy is plummeting, inflation is through the roof, and interest rates keep rising because of Biden policies and actions since day 1, but Democrats don't care as long as Trump is gone. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (02/01/2023): 3:00pm- Earlier today, President Joe Biden's personal attorney Bob Bauer announced via a statement that the FBI will search Biden's home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Bauer said: “The search today is a further step in a thorough and timely DOJ process we will continue to fully support and facilitate. We will have further information at the conclusion of today's search.” According to the Washington Post, the search concluded after three-and-a-half hours.  3:15pm- Ian Sams of the White House Counsel's Office spoke with reporters on Wednesday—though, he conveyed very little information about President Biden's mishandling of classified documents. Sams claimed the Biden Administration has been “transparent” while refusing to answer whether the FBI will conduct searches at any other properties associated with President Biden. Sams also refused to say if any additional classified information was discovered during the FBI's search of the president's Rehoboth Beach home on Wednesday morning.  3:35pm- Even mainstream news outlets are turning on the Biden Administration for their lack of transparency regarding the President's mishandling of classified materials. For example, CBS News correspondent Adriana Diaz expressed frustration with how the White House has handled the situation.  3:45pm- On Wednesday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre spoke with reporters—but, much like Ian Sams, she offered almost no details on Biden's mishandling of classified documents. 3:50pm- While speaking with MSNBC, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was unable to answer where an estimated 600,000 “got-away” migrants—individuals who crossed the U.S. Southern border illegally and undetected without formally seeking asylum—are currently located.  3:55pm- Zeoli announces that John Paul Mac Isaac—the electronics repairman inadvertently caught up in the Hunter Biden laptop scandal—will be joining him for a 1210 WPHT Speaker Series on February 23rd in person at FOP Lodge #5! Ticket information will be available soon! 4:05pm- On Tuesday, NBC Nightly News aired a shocking report featuring former federal prosecutor and chief investigator of the January 6 Committee, Tim Heaphy. Heaphy stated that the federal government had prior warnings of the January 6th riot at the Capitol and were capable of preventing it from occurring had they taken the intelligence reports seriously. According to NBC anchor Lester Holt, “the January 6 Committee's final report was more than 800 pages, but some material did not make the cut, including much of its findings on the failures of federal law enforcement leading up to the attack.” 4:30pm- The Columbia Journalism Review (CJR) has examined and subsequently denounced the New York Times' reporting on the Trump-Russia collusion allegations. 4:40pm- House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) spoke with the National Archives on Tuesday. Rep. Comer claimed the National Archives told him they have no problem with complete transparency regarding President Biden's mishandling of classified documents—leading Comer to conclude the lack of cooperation and openness is due to Merrick Garland's Department of Justice.  4:50pm- On Wednesday, Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) met with President Joe Biden at the White House to discuss the debt ceiling and out-of-control federal government spending. Will McCarthy be able to negotiate a deal that Republicans can support? While appearing on Fox News, Congresswoman Elise Stefanik suggested that the federal government could save hundreds-of-billions of dollars by simply locating unspent COVID-19 funds. 5:00pm- On Tuesday, former President Donald Trump released a video message on social media revealing his plan to ban gender-affirming care on minors, if he is elected president in 2024.  5:05pm- MSNBC host Joy Reid accused Governor Ron DeSantis of turning Florida into a “right-wing fantasyland…like Disney World, but in hell.” 5:10pm- Unsurprisingly, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre refused to say how many misplaced classified documents FBI officials have confiscated from President Biden's homes and offices.  5:15pm- CNN host Victor Blackwell grilled White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield over the Biden Administration's refusal to provide clarity regarding classified documents and FBI searches of Biden-owned properties.  5:30pm- What has been the key to Governor Ron DeSantis' political success? Prioritizing parents and children throughout Florida. According to National Review's Brittany Bernstein, the College Board has removed critical race theory from its proposed AP African American studies course. DeSantis had been a vocal critic of the College Board's initial iteration of the course. 5:40pm- A hilarious listener calls-in to explain how much he hates when The Rich Zeoli Show is preempted for college sports.  5:55pm- Zeoli is preempted for college sports! Then, they are joined by Helena Bottemiller Evich, founder of the publication Food Fix, to discuss the recent developments within the FDA and the issues surrounding Abbott's baby formula. First, Emma and Sam run through updates on Trump's pleading of the fifth for the 400th time, the AP African American course updates, Nikki Haley launching her run for the GOP nomination in 2024, Hochul siding with her corporate lobbyists once again, and the previous abuses of the cops that killed Tyre Nichols, before parsing through Biden's State Department's refusal to acknowledge the apartheid and oppression faced by Palestinian people. Raymond Jackson then joins as he dives into the context of ATU Local 689's strike as it reaches its third week, with Keolis taking over Loudoun Transit in 2021 and promptly cutting health benefits and forcing workers into outrageous workloads, all while serving the richest county in the US. After walking through the one-sided bargaining that has taken place in the wake of the takeover, Jackson discusses the other transit strikes inspired by Keolis's takeovers, before they wrap up the interview by exploring the various ways to support Local 689 both from Virginia and afar. Helena Bottemiller-Evich then dives into the recent announcement of a major reorganization of the FDA amidst intense scrutiny over their food management, tackling the baby-formula drama that put this issue front and center, and why, despite decades of dysfunction, this issue only just came to a breaking point. They discuss the impact of Donald Trump's takedown of the administrative state, and why it didn't impact the revolving door of drug-focused administrators, before taking a step back to look at the much greater issues that faced the FDA's actual attempts to regulate food, particularly in terms of its funding and relationship to the industry it supposedly regulates. Wrapping up, Helena, Sam, and Emma tackle the recent updates to FDA regulation, including taking heavy metals out of baby food, and how to bolster the US' ability to regulate the food industry. And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma discuss Donald Trump staking out his violently transphobic agenda, the major PACs that stand in line with him, Lindsay Graham's defense of supporting Trump despite his agenda being mirrored across the GOP, and Jonah from Montreal discusses Crowder's legacy in Canada. Desantis's Fight to STOP Democratic Structural Racism DISGUISED As AP Afro Studies

In this episode Carl totally debunks the Lie that Gov. Ron Desantis rejected the proposed AP African American studies from the College Board because he's a racist. Carl cites Florida statutes that are already on the books and require lessons on African American history, including slavery, abolition, Jim Crow, black achievement, ramifications of prejudice and stereotyping, and contributions of black Americans. DeSantis and the FDOE rejected the curriculum proposed by the College Board because it was steeped in CRT, DEI, cultural Marxism, sexual material that was not age appropriate, perpetuated the very structural racism democrats claim they want to end. It's Casual Friday! Sam and Emma host Alex Pareene, Contributing Editor at the New Republic and proprietor of the AP newsletter on Substack, to round up the week in news. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on the Supreme Court finally finalizing their investigation into the Dobbs leak, Hochul continuing her self-immolation tour, Trump coming out against cuts to social security, Florida outlawing AP African American studies, and more, also parsing through the coverage of the recent debt ceiling debate, as Nancy Mace pretends to acknowledge the bipartisan nature of government spending (because that's literally what government is), before totally misunderstanding what goes into the deficit, and why the government must have debt. Alex Pareene then joins as he dives right into this week's updates on the Supreme Court investigation into the identity of the Dobbs leaker, following up the recent announcement that they're “narrowing down” the list of suspects by concluding that the leaker could not be determined. Alex, Sam, and Emma walk through the list of possible suspects, discussing why it seemingly ignored the possibility that it could've come from a Justice (despite proof of multiple leaks coming from Justice Alito), and why a culpable conservative justice could essentially hold the institution of the Supreme Court hostage, forcing them to choose between covering this up (and suffering minor damage to institutional trust) or being transparent (and completely undercutting any remaining trust of the Court), before capping the SCOTUS conversation by tackling the role of non-judicial legal institutions (law schools, organizations, etc.) and liberal justices in opening up the conversation to a changing role of the judicial branch. Next, they shift the conversation to Hochul continuing her strut down her self-made carpet of rakes as she officially retains a lawyer to sue her DEMOCRATIC-led State Senate, exploring why she's acting like she has an electoral mandate despite narrowly winning the governorship and largely undermining down-ballot Democratic races, and what the logic behind turning on women's rights and labor activists could possibly be. They also discuss the greater ineptitude of the New York State Democratic Machine, why Hakeem Jeffries is standing behind Hochul, and the future of the progressive agenda in New York. Wrapping up the interview, Alex, Sam, and Emma discuss Donald Trump's campaign against cutting social security, how it will affect the GOP's platform over the next year, and where it will leave Trump's standing in the 2024 primaries. And in the Fun Half: Sam, Emma, and the MR Crew parse through Candace Owen's statements on women as a distraction in the workplace, before getting into a deep dive into the myriad reveals that have come out of the Daily Wire-Stephen Crowder beef, from the levels of revenue at these conservative publications, to their tactic of trolling in public and keeping the severe bigotry behind the paywall, also debating where Crowder's outrageously poor strategy came from, the potential of a tampering case coming out of this, Crowder's content mill, and the serious backlash from Daily Wire employees like Candace Owens and Matt Walsh as they go to bat for their employer like the good little guard dogs they are, plus, a sit down with Ben Burgis and Jason Myles of “Give them an Argument” and “This is Revolution,” respectively, ahead of their live show with Left Reckoning this weekend!
