"Apply what you learn [online] and actually do something—even if it's not for making money—just make something. Do something with what you're learning and practice it." Matt Halfhill, founder of Nice Nicks, is not a monolith or a cliche ‘sneakerhead’. The son of college professors who moved to California from the Midwest, Matt played in a Dixieland Jazz band as a kid, fell in love with sneakers in the Caribbean in Grenada, and dropped out of college to start the Internet’s first-ever sneaker blog. Today, what started as a blog has become a digital media brand that is one of the most trusted in the footwear industry with over 4 million followers on Instagram. From experimenting with web development in the late 90s to learning to sell overstocked sneakers on eBay from his first job, Matt developed a love of technology and digital communication as a youth. Halfhill joins MoS to discuss the story of Nice Kicks, its mission to be inlusive of all folks wanting to become a fan of sneakers no matter their level of knowledge about the industry, as well as how the company has evolved over the years. We discuss the shift of content marketing from brands, what it was like to open and then later popular brick-and-mortar sneaker shop, as well as why news is a commodity and our voice is all we have to sell that is truly unique when it comes to building a digital media brand. Matt's love of sneakers and his hacker-like mentality for figuring things out has led to a lifelong career in a billion dollar niche at the intersection of sport, culture and fashion. Listen along as Matt shares the story of NiceKicks.com. ProjectME with Tiffany Carter – Entrepreneurship & Millionaire Mindset
My motto is to be the best you must hire the best. This practice is what helped me become a multi-millionaire. I’m well aware you can only go so far on your own. So when I set out to launch my second company, ProjectME with Tiffany Carter, I knew I had to hire the best even though this was a start-up company solely funded by me, myself and I. Since I’ve done this business building thing before, I’ve learned a thing or two from making a crap ton of mistakes. One of which, is I always regret it when I base my decisions on cost versus quality. To have the best, you have to pay a premium. You can’t buy a Coach bag and turn it into a Chanel. Although Coach is a good quality bag, it will never be a Chanel. Do you want your brand to be good, superior, or the best of the best? I searched for and hired the Chanel of the branding world, Jordan Duvall, to help match my vision of ProjectME into a visual symphony. Jordan is a Soul Brand Strategist, Certified NLP Practitioner and Success Coach. With more than 20 years of experience in entertainment advertising, marketing, and photography, Jordan has worked on such campaigns as The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Star Trek, and The Voice. She got her start as one of the three founding members of The Ant Farm print department and went on to work with such private clients as Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy. She served as an Art Director for BLT Communications, Universal Pictures, AvatarLabs and NBC Entertainment developing unique and award-winning campaigns and won PromaxBDA awards for her work on both The Blacklist and Aquarius. Jordan combined her knowledge of marketing, branding, art direction, photography, and social media to launch her own brand to help spiritual entrepreneurs create a clear strategic roadmap and cohesive brand vision so they can elevate their brand and expand their influence. Her specialties include creative direction, photo shoots, and creating an aligned, abundant and authentic brands which produce strong ROI for her private clients and students. Returning back to NYC in 2002 with 2 college degrees and close ties to his friends that never left the block, Damian slowly started forming what is now one of the biggest things to happen to the East New York community - The East New York Memorial Classic aka Gersh Park Basketball Tournament. After 13 years running, Gersh is classified as the best streetball tournament in NYC and is the only tournament on the East Coast with a duel sponsorship from Brand Jordan and Nike.
