Things are heating up on the road to Wrestlemania and Dutch Mantell is here to talk about it! Cody Rhodes and John Cena finally get physical on WWE RAW as Cena is left looking at the lights and Gunther beats Jimmy Uso to a bloody pulp as his rivalry with "Main Event" Jey Uso picks up some steam.  Speaking of main events, during one of the most drawn out contract signings in WWE history, CM Punk is told he will be the main event of night 1 of WrtestleMania.  In other news, friend of the show, Gail Kim has been let go from TNA and Saraya has parted ways with AEW, what does the future hold for both of these women? Elsewhere, Cope (f.k.a. Egde) has defended his horrific spiked 2x4 spot vs Jon Moxley and Hulk Hogan has been called out on social media by his ex-wife for being (get this) a liar! Shocking stuff. If you grew up watching TV in the 80s, you may have noticed that there was a preponderance of… if not shows about orphans specifically then similar shows where the care of children was entrusted to people who weren't their parents and maybe didn't know how to raise kids. We're talking Diff'rent Strokes, Rags to Riches, Punky Brewster, Webster and Gimme a Break, but also The Facts of Life, Charles in Charge, My Two Dads, Full House, My Sister Sam, Silver Spoons, The Hogan Family and more. Sure, a lot of factors could explain these absent parents, but what if we told you there was a single patient zero for this whole trend? Because Drew thinks there is one, and its history stretches back to the 19th century. Hey Everyone, Angela Bowen here, the host of She's A Small Wonder: A Small Wonder Podcast. Today, I covered not one, but two episodes to catch up for missing March's episode. S3E15: Bye Bye Brindles. which aired on January 23, 1988. In this episode the Lawsons plot to convince the Brindles to move. Brandon was such a dumb dumb in this episode. GAH! Not surprising, Bonnie is mentioned but not seen since the actress moved on to star in the show Valerie or Hogan Family or whatever they were calling that show at the time. This episode was kinda meh. and also I covered S3E16: For Sale By Robot, which aired on January 30, 1988. In this episode Vicki accidentally sells the Lawson's house. This was a bonkers crazy and hugely unrealistic episode (aren't they all) when it comes to selling a home, as well as the couple being what TV perceive as stereo typical Texans to be like. I was embarrassed and I'm not originally from Texas, I've only been here 3 years. Overall, I liked this episode more than the first. Hope you enjoy the episodes and I'll be back in June with two more. Have a great rest of April!

Hot off the presses! As some of you might know, just last week, the members of SAG-AFTRA - the union which represents TV and film actors - went on strike for the first time in decades. And while we're not really a current events podcast (see the “Retro Podcast” subtitle), these types of battles over contracts and pay have been going on between producers and actors for as long as studios have existed, and probably even longer. And in one particular battle in 1987, when a famous actress asked for contract changes, she wasn't fired from any ol' show - she was pushed out of a sitcom that was literally named after her.Rob teaches Ray about Valerie Harper, her award-winning career, and why she was ignominiously fired from her eponymous sitcom; the clash of comedic sensibilities on “Valerie”; Jason Bateman's literal role in all this; another rockin' 80s theme song; and how the fallout from Valerie Harper's firing and subsequent lawsuit made producers much more cautious about future TV fights with stars. If you like what we're doing, please support us on Patreon or subscribe to our bonus content on Apple Podcasts. Even if you don't immediately recognize the name Edie McClurg, if you're old enough to remember the 1980s and ‘90s, then you'll almost certainly know her the instant you see her photo. Somehow she was everywhere and nowhere for the better part of my childhood, appearing in movies like Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Mr. Mom, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (a Thanksgiving classic for not-quite the whole family), and sitcoms including The Hogan Family. You can also hear her voice in several well-known animated films, like The Little Mermaid and Cars (so even my young daughters have familiarity). Was she the star of the show? Never, as far as I can tell. Was she there time and time again as a very dependable supporting cast member? You betcha. She is even credited with the quote, “Acting isn't a singular profession, it is a collaborative profession.” It takes a small army to create the shows and movies that have meant so much to us over the years (try reading the credits some time), and it seems Ms. McClurg embraced this notion. “Nightmare on Oak Street” (November 23, 1987) We had to break format to do it, but at long last, we are talking about The Hogan Family… a.k.a. Valerie, a.k.a. Valerie's Family. And yes the history of how this one sitcom had three different names is explained, but more to the point we ask why a show that killed off its title character would choose to confront its young viewers just a few weeks later with zombie horror — and worst of all, the Zombie Sandy Duncan. The Associates, the lawyer sitcom starring Martin Short and created by Hogan Family creator Charlie Hauck is, after all, available on YouTube. Jaime Weinman's 2008 Maclean's piece on why Valerie Harper left the show provided many details in my recapping on the incident. This week's guest is the incredible actress Josie Bissett.  Josie is recognized internationally for her role as the popular 'Jane Mancini' on FOX-TV's "Melrose Place," which ended its successful seven-year run in May 1999.  The Seattle native began her career in front of the camera at the age of 12 as a model in print advertisements and television commercials.  At 16, she left home and moved to Japan to further her career and at 17 headed to Hollywood to make her mark.  Josie soon landed the role of 'Cara' on "The Hogan Family," where she spent two seasons.  Within two years of her arrival in Los Angeles, Josie was cast on "Melrose Place" and quickly became one of television's most recognizable actors.  In Part 1 of our interview, we talk to Josie about her recent guest appearance on Fantasy Island and now as an empty nester, her desire to enter the acting world again.  She shares how her career started and what it was like to be married young in Hollywood.  We also dish on what it was like to work on the set of Melrose Place and so much more. Part 2 of our Josie Bissett interview will be available on Wednesday.  Subscribe to Hot Flashes & Cool Topics on any podcast platform. www.hotflashescooltopics.com

We hope Bobby Krut agrees to come BACK to Extra Hot Great after putting him through the unrelenting barrage of anguish that is HBO's latest limited series, I Know This Much Is True. Sure, the acting is good; yeah, it's impressive that Mark Ruffalo plays twins; not one of us is planning to keep watching, because there's never a break or a moment of levity, and even Dave's ice-cream-fixins-bar metaphor made us sad. Our trip Around The Dial made us MAD, mostly -- Tara was disgusted with Regular Heroes, Sarah was disappointed in American Experience's Dubya-sode, and Dave was not a crackpot about The Good Fight's failure to understand electricity -- but at least Bobby brought in the Antenna TV Comfort Blanket roster to cheer us up. Jeff's Extra Credit saw us rewriting well-regarded series finales with How I Met Your Mother-style bungling, before we headed to the polls for Bobby's Canon submission, NewsRadio's "President" episode. Guy Fieri won (for once), Lori Loughlin lost (again), and the competition got feverish during Game Time. Give yourselves a hand for listening to an all-new Extra Hot Great!
