Selezionato dal curatore e direttore creativo Sabino Maria Frassà, Gnata si distingue per la sua straordinaria capacità di fondere tecnica ed espressività, tecnologia e natura, luce e ombra, trasformando il disegno in una vera e propria scultura nello spazio. "Cosmogonie" rappresenta un vero e proprio viaggio visivo che esplora l'incontro tra arte e design, in un dialogo continuo tra forme e materia, dove l'innovazione tecnologica si intreccia con una profonda ricerca estetica. Fino al 17 luglio 2025, il pubblico sarà invitato a immergersi nei mondi visionari di Gnata, classe 1997, in un percorso che indaga la complessa relazione tra essere umano, tecnica e futuro. In questa mostra, luce, ombra e nero assumono il ruolo di protagonisti assoluti, fondendosi armoniosamente con l'iconico design del nuovo elemento firmato Gaggenau e con le imponenti installazioni dell'artista piemontese. Il risultato è un dialogo visivo di forte impatto e raffinata intensità, capace di offrire un'esperienza immersiva che invita a riflettere sulle connessioni profonde tra l'uomo, la tecnologia e il suo ambiente. La compenetrazione tra natura e tecnologia, cuore della pratica artistica di Gnata, emerge con forza lungo il percorso espositivo attraverso una serie di opere realizzate con la sua inconfondibile tecnica di disegno 3D organico e “aerospaziale”. "Con un approccio sofisticato e concettuale", evidenzia Frassà "Gnata rielabora i grandi capolavori del passato—da Melencolia I di Dürer (1514) a La Danza di Matisse (1910), fino alla pittura metafisica di Giorgio de Chirico con i manichini de Le Muse inquietanti(1917)—dando vita a universi in cui la fusione tra elementi organici e industriali si trasforma in un dialogo visivo potente e innovativo, capace di esplorare nuove possibilità di coesistenza tra l'uomo e il suo ambiente". Il bagaglio del passato si fonde, nell'opera di Gnata, con spunti derivanti da studi recenti, tra cui l'idea di responso-abilità di Donna Haraway e il concetto di resilienza organica di Anna Tsing. Il risultato è un'installazione artisticache si espande e si insinua in ogni angolo dello spazio, dialogando con gli elementi distintivi del design del brand tedesco, espressione di un'eccellenza tecnica e di un raffinato ingegno umano. In questo continuo scambio tra opera e ambiente, Cosmogonie si trasforma in una potente metafora visiva della resilienza, intesa non solo come principio fondante della nostra esistenza, ma come chiave dell'ordine stesso che regge il mondo. "Con Cosmogonie," spiega il curatore della mostra Sabino Maria Frassà, "Lorenzo Gnata, più che dominare il caos di forme e significati che ci circonda, lo abita e lo celebra, riconoscendo nell'interconnessione tra tutte le forme di vita e pensiero l'unico vero ordine possibile. Potremmo definire il suo gesto artistico con il neologismo 'bucantropico', che esprime il suo tentativo di dar vita a una pastorale umanizzata, in cui la dimensione naturale, rurale e idilliaca si fonde con tratti umani, generando un dialogo continuo tra materia e pensiero. Ci troviamo di fronte a una forma di panismo radicale, inteso come ultima possibilità per l'essere umano di sopravvivere a se stesso—un manifesto per un futuro condiviso e aperto, una cosmogonia tentacolare e rizomatica, capace di attingere al passato senza rimanere intrappolata in un presente claustrofobico." L'artista ci invita così a immaginare nuovi scenari, in cui la coesistenza collaborativa e partecipativa diventa il motore dell'evoluzione e delle possibilità future. Le sue opere si sviluppano come formazioni rizomatiche, espandendosi nello spazio e suggerendo una visione in cui la rinascita si compie attraverso ibridazione e contaminazione creativa. Plus on en prend souvent, plus les bactéries y deviennent résistantes et moins les traitements antibiotiques ultérieurs seront efficaces. Aujourd'hui les bactéries résistantes tuent plus de personnes dans le monde que le sida ou le paludisme. Charlotte Brives est anthropologue au CNRS et dans son dernier livre, “Face à l’antibiorésistance, Une écologie politique des microbes” (Amsterdam, 2022), elle revient sur l’histoire des antibiotiques, sur leur usage massif, bien au-delà de la sphère de la médecine humaine et sur la manière dont ils ont profondément influencé notre économie et notre société. A travers son récit, c’est toute notre perception de la maladie et des microbes qui s’en trouve chamboulée. Comment va-t-on pouvoir se soigner si les antibiotiques ne fonctionnent plus ? Alder Keleman Saxena is an environmental anthropologist whose research looks at the links between agricultural biodiversity and food culture, especially in relation to nutritional health in the Bolivian Andes. Her collaboration with Anna Tsing, Feifei Zhou and Jennifer Deger for the online Feral Atlas project is an absolute gift to anyone concerned with ecology, but specifically from the perspective of reckoning with the impact of human activity on the planet. The book that came out of that digital adventure is called Field Guide to the Patchy Anthropocene: The New Nature, a riveting book that sets us up with a variety of different ways of approaching the destruction of nature and its disastrous consequences. Alder's chapter in the Field Guide is focuses on a patch that is very familiar to her: Flagstaff, Arizona, and the erratic ways that market capitalism is changing the demographic make-up of Flagstaff at a moment of increasing climate peril. This conversation about climate migration into Flagstaff takes us into the topic of housing, capitalism and climate impacts, the problem of how to communicate and contextualize climate disasters, and the question of how something like a field guide can encourage us to actually dwell with the idea that human beings are both a “geological force” and a “world-ripping” one.

Having worked for 4 years at HHF in Basel, she decided to return to Tokyo after the major earthquake of 2011. At the Deanery Project this spring, I met with Dr. Jenn MacLatchy (she/they), who is an artist, a kayak instructor, and researcher of settler descent living in Mi'kma'ki. Her doctoral research was focused on using arts-based methods to engage with waste, weeds, and wastelands to form a settler method for decolonizing relationship with land and tending to liveable post-Anthropocene futures. In this episode, you'll hear about this fascinating doctoral research and her art practice, which is process-based and focused on marine plastics, waste paper, and invasive plants, and different ways of weaving these materials together to explore relationships in the inextricably interconnected living world. We hear her perspective of seeing garbage as artifacts that can help us understand our culture, and about the problem –and the irony– of plastics. She shares the view that humans aren't inherently bad for the environment, and offers an interesting twist on what it can mean to be less materialistic. 90% are unknown still but the species which have been studied have given us penicillin, ways of breaking down plastics, food and bio fuels but they can also be dangerous. Neither animal nor vegetable, they are both amongst us and within us, shaping our lives in ways it is difficult to imagine. Jeff Diamanti is an Assistant Professor of Environmental Humanities (Cultural Analysis & Philosophy) at the University of Amsterdam. At the beginning of this podcast's run, I recorded an interview with him where I asked some very broad questions about the relationship between humanity and our natural environment. Here, I had the chance to sit down with his new book Climate and Capital in the Age of Petroleum (www.bloomsbury.com/ca/climate-and-…-9781350191839/) and ask more pointed questions about not only the claims of that book, but about the pivotal moment we are currently in, where, as he notes, we are still continually “inundated with stuff drawn from the earth but not encountered as such;” we still, especially in the affluent parts of the world, experience the luxury of that sort of comforting disconnection of commodity from supply chain. But we also now face the mounting pressure of environmental collapse and the knowledge that collapse will be the consequence of this disconnection, where even “postindustrial” or digital capitalism is “coded in a language of intangibility” but still relies wholly upon “dead matter” to drive the system. The pandemic has forced many more of us to attend to the material conditions that allow life to flourish. It matters that, in an instant, what Mark Fisher calls “capitalist realism” can be “punctured,” in Diamanti's terms, and the possibility of system-wide change can feel within reach. Yet, at the same time, DIamanti admits that some important methods of engagement don't automatically translate, for him, into a politics; yet, these modes of thinking and feeling are vital pedagogically for encouraging a connection to what he calls the “elemental alterity of the earth.” Part of this is based on an ethic of being a theorist who is also in and of the world, who makes a deliberate effort to “slow down” and experience the overwhelming forces around you. Who works to ensure that we're allowing these encounters to inform our concepts, not the other way around. Anna Tsing's “arts of noticing” are quite a bit different from the language of a “world to win” and are still potentially quite powerful, I think, for environmental communication (a problem I'll take up in more detail in my conversation next week with Imre Szeman). The hope, nonetheless, is to devise stronger questions and to work beyond the “expected conclusions” provided by readymade frameworks that basically induce a sort of “epistemological illegibiilty” when it comes to energy markets and energy futures, which inevitably leads to the continuation of our current impasse: the paradox of knowing we are cooking the planet for future generations of people are nonhuman beings, but can't imagine real ways of correcting our course. In this context of profound blockage, Jeff likes to believe an engagement with the elemental alterity of the earth can open things up, these “massive and beautiful forces” can provides a grounds for revolutionary imaginings that don't prefigure the social or psychological configurations of an energy transition.

Anna Tsing is a professor of Anthropology at the University of California: Santa Cruz and the author of books that show us how a multitude of different forms of life are bound together in a web of complex and fragile interdependence. Her books include Friction: An Ethnography of Global Connection, The Mushroom at the End of the World and Arts of Living on a Damaged Planet: Ghosts and Monsters of the Anthropocene. In this episode, we discuss her most recent project--Feral Atlas: The More-Than-Human Anthropocene--an online platform that is available at feralatlas.org. The site is intended as an interactive showcase for research into what Tsing and her co-editors Jennifer Deger, Alder Keleman Saxena and Feifei Zhou call “feral species and feral dynamics,” but it also uses multimedia techniques to tell “stories of environmental injustice, radical diversity and scientific surprise.” Released through the Digital Repository at Stanford University Press, Feral Atlas contains a dizzying array of multidisciplinary engagements with the disturbing realities of the Anthropocene. And despite including more than one hundred essays, analyses, and artworks by leading scientists and artists, it has not yet received the level of attention that it deserves, as a text that maps the enduring social and ecological effects of Invasion, Empire, Capital, and Acceleration. We discuss the risks and pleasures that come with using a digital medium to experiment with modes of storytelling that are capable of inspiring both the hope and the fear necessary to convince people how urgently we need to protect and nurture the last remaining spaces of interspecies flourishing, as we attempt to dismantle, in Tsing's words, “the most harmful anthropogenic kinds of infrastructural effects.”

Sujet : Pandémie, une histoire de préparation À propos du livre : «Signaux d'alerte, Contagion virale, justice sociale, crises environnementales» paru aux Éditions Desclée de Brouwer Les signaux d'alerte se multiplient sur les catastrophes écologiques. La valeur de ces signaux n'est pas régie par le critère de la vraie ou de la fausse alerte, ni par le principe du bon ou du mauvais gouvernement, mais par l'attractivité du signal, c'est-à-dire sa capacité à susciter l'attention et l'intérêt de ceux qui le reçoivent. En s'appuyant sur une étude des sentinelles des pandémies dans les sociétés asiatiques, Frédéric Keck montre que les territoires qui émettent des signaux d'alerte, comme Hong Kong, Taïwan ou Singapour, ont entre eux des relations de compétition et de collaboration analogues à celles des oiseaux qui concourent pour alerter sur la présence d'un prédateur. Dans cette émulation, où les pays échangent des informations pour prendre les mesures les plus rapides, se joue une nouvelle forme de solidarité globale et de justice sociale.
