The Ag Net News Hour's Lorre Boyer and Nick Papagni, “The AgMeter” discussed the new USDA Emergency Commodity Assistance Program (ECAP), which provides financial relief to farmers affected by economic uncertainty and natural disasters. ECAP offers flat payment rates per acre for eligible commodities, with initial payments factored by 85% to manage funding. The program aims to support crop growers facing low prices, high input costs, and natural disasters. Additionally, the American Relief Act includes up to $20 billion for disaster relief. The segment also touched on a recent wildfire in central California, the Silver Fire, which has spread over 1,000 acres near Bishop. In the second segment, Nick and Lorrie discussed the impending reciprocal tariffs, set to take effect unless last-minute negotiations alter plans. The tariffs, which could impact US-Canada trade significantly, include 263% on chicken and 279% on turkeys. Concerns were raised about the potential economic fallout, including a possible US recession and reduced demand for US agricultural exports. USDA Secretary Brooke Rollins is actively pursuing new trade deals with countries like Vietnam, Japan, India, Peru, and the UK to mitigate these effects. The conversation also touched on the strategic importance of US-Canada relations and the potential for alternative export markets. Finally, Ag Net News Hour hosts, Nick “The AgMeter” and Lorrie Boyer discussed the Bureau of Reclamation's increase in Central Valley Project water allocations for 2025, with initial allocations at 100% for some areas and 40% for others. Despite recent above-average rainfall, West Side growers face challenges, predicting a final allocation of 60%. The conversation highlighted the political and environmental challenges in California's water management, emphasizing the need for increased water supply and reduced red tape. The hosts stressed the importance of supporting farmers and the potential impact of federal involvement, particularly under the current administration, to address these issues.

Regular listeners to this podcast, or readers of our website, know that we cover a lot of stories about sexual abuse. We take no pleasure in these stories, but we believe they are important. To explain why, I would use a simple analogy. I would ask you to imagine that you have a headache. If you think this headache is caused by sinus pressure, or perhaps too much coffee, you will take a couple of aspirin and go about your business. But what if that headache is the symptom of a brain tumor, and those headaches are a warning from your body to do something? That's why we cover sexual abuse stories: We believe that just as headaches can be a warning that something in our physical bodies is amiss, the stories we do at MinistryWatch – especially their frequency and severity – should be a warning to us that something in the Body of Christ is amiss, and we need to do more than take a couple of aspirin and get on with our lives. But we need more than a good diagnosis. We need a cure. That's why I'm delighted to have Jeff Dalrymple on the program. Jeff is helping the church to act in biblical ways. He leads a group called ECAP, the Evangelical Council for Abuse Prevention. The group has been around for only a few years, but MinistryWatch was an early fan. More than 20 MinistryWatch stories at least mention ECAP and its work, and I'm delighted to have Jeff on the program today. Prior to joining ECAP, Jeff was a vice president at Southern Seminary in Louisville Kentucky. Jeff and I have mentioned a number of resources on today's program. Here are a few links to help you find them: First, here's a link to ECAP's website. Also, here's a link to MinistryWatch's coverage of ECAP's activities. On today's program, the Evangelical Council for Abuse Prevention (ECAP) is set to roll out an accreditation program designed to train and certify ministry executives in skills to prevent sexual abuse. And we note two notable passings this week: Open Doors founder Brother Andrew, and the long-time president of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability, Dan Busby. We begin today with the controversial decision by Christian musician Chris Tomlin to tour with the scandal ridden Hillsong United this fall. Before we go… I'll be hosting a lunch for MinistryWatch friends in Charlotte in October, and I'll be in Newport Beach, California, on November 15. If you live in those cities, you should be getting an email from me with more information, but if you want to make sure that you get an invitation, please email me and I'll make sure you get the details. All of these lunches are FREE. They're just our way of saying THANK YOU for being a part of our work. I also want to remind you that if you make a donation to MinistryWatch during the month of September, we'll send you a copy of “Restoring All Things” as our thank you gift. This book is one that I wrote with the Colson Center's John Stonestreet, and it features stories of great ministries doing great work all around the country. Just go to MinistryWatch.com and hit the DONATE button at the top of the page. The producers for today's program are Rich Roszel and Jeff McIntosh. We get database and other technical support from Cathy Goddard, Stephen DuBarry, Emily Kern, Rod Pitzer, and Casey Sudduth. Writers who contributed to today's program include Kim Roberts, Bob Smietana, Shannon Cuthrell, Jessica Eturralde, and Anne Stych. Until next time, may God bless you.

Entitled, "Doctor Love...Bernie Siegel and his controversial theories of self-healing." Einstein said, "Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds." Dr. Siegel (who refers to be called Bernie) is a pioneer in the Mind-Body Healing relationship and revolutionized the way doctors and patients harnessed the power of the mind to heal. A retired general and pediatric surgeon, New York Times Best-Selling Author, founder of the ECap (a form of individual and group therapy for cancer patients), Bernie challenged conventional medical practices when experiencing patients who defied the odds of healing, getting well, and living fulfilling lives. One patient said to Bernie, "You're a nice guy...I feel better seeing you but I cannot take you home." This experience got Bernie thinking that he could do more as doctor to help people between office visits. In this episode, Bernie shares the inspiration he's given to tens of millions of people over the years spanning over 4 decades. He talks about an experience interpreting a drawing with Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, the importance of love, how doctor and patient work together as a team, the one question to ask yourself when struggling. Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2022.09.06.506839v1?rss=1 Authors: Mao, X., Chang, Y.-C., Zanos, S., Lajoie, G. Abstract: Objective. Neurostimulation is emerging as treatment for several diseases of the brain and peripheral organs. Due to variability arising from placement of stimulation devices, underlying neuroanatomy and physiological responses to stimulation, it is essential that neurostimulation protocols are personalized to maximize efficacy and safety. Building such personalized protocols would benefit from accumulated information in increasingly large datasets of other individuals' responses. Approach. To address that need, we propose a meta-learning family of algorithms to conduct few-shot optimization of key fitting parameters of physiological responses in new individuals. While our method is agnostic to neurostimulation modality, here we demonstrate its effectiveness on the problem of physiological modeling of fiber recruitment during vagus nerve stimulation (VNS). Using data from acute VNS experiments, the mapping between amplitudes of stimulus-evoked compound action potentials (eCAPs) and physiological responses, such as heart rate and breathing interval modulation, is inferred. Main results. Using additional synthetic data sets to complement experimental results, we demonstrate that our meta-learning framework is capable of directly modeling the physiology-eCAP relationship for individual subjects with much fewer individually queried data points than standard methods. Significance. Our meta-learning framework is general and can be adapted to any input-response neurostimulation mapping problem. Moreover, this method leverages information from growing data sets of past patients, as a treatment is deployed. It can also be combined with several model types, including regression, Gaussian processes with Bayesian optimization, and beyond. Copy rights belong to original authors. The government has decided to raise the gas cost for the industrial sector (Steel, Ceramics, Cement, Fertilizers, and Petrochemicals) to USD5.75/MMBtu, except for companies whose cost is calculated based on a formula tied to selling prices. - While the gaps between new FVs and current market prices are not wide, because stocks had initially failed to reflect the profitability spike, the market will definitely not take the news well and stocks will face pressure at the opening. - At current known factors, you are safe with EKHO, MFPC, ECAP, and most cement producers, but more vulnerable with ESRS, ABUK, LCSW, and SVCE. -The only scenario that would save the upside potential for the industrial sector, in general, is that the government would utilize a formula-based gas cost, even if applied with a time lag. Technically, the Fuel Pricing Committee should look into gas costs every quarter. Accordingly, this is not a far-fetched scenario.

Luna Abadia is a junior in high school and is the founder and executive director of Effective Climate Action Project, a youth-led environmental organization rooted in Portland, Oregon. Founded in the summer of 2020, Luna realized how most organizations focus on driving individual actions. But she believes that systemic solutions should also play a part. Solutions that change the rules and the way we roam this Earth that create a positive future for our environment. Aside from her organization, Luna was also an exchange student in Japan with the Rotary International where she entered a speech competition and spoke about the importance of climate action in Japanese. In this episode, you'll hear her thoughts on the youth-led climate movement and why we need to use our voices for positive change. The physical, spiritual and psychological benefits which followed led to his desire to make everyone aware of his or her healing potential. He realized exceptional behavior is what we are all capable of. Bernie, and his wife and coworker Bobbie, who died in 2018, lived in a suburb of New Haven, Connecticut. They have five children and eight grandchildren. Bernie and Bobbie have co-authored their children, books and articles. Their home with its many children, pets and interests resembled a cross between a family art gallery, museum, zoo and automobile repair shop. It still resembles these things, although the children are trying to improve its appearance in order to avoid embarrassment. In 1986 his first book, Love. Medicine & Miracles was published. This event redirected his life. In 1989 Peace, Love & Healing and in 1993 How To Live Between Office Visits followed. He is currently working on other books with the goal of humanizing medical education and medical care, as well as, empowering patients and teaching survival behavior to enhance immune system competency. Bernie’s realization that we all need help dealing with the difficulties of life, not just the physical ones, led to Bernie writing his fourth book in 1998 Prescriptions for Living. It helps people to become aware of the eternal truths and wisdom of the sages through Bernie’s stories and insights rather than wait a personal disaster. He wants to help people fix their lives before they are broken, and thus not have to become strong at the broken places. Published in 2003 are Help Me To Heal to empower patients and their caregivers and 365 Prescriptions For The Soul, in 2004 a children’s book about how difficulties can become blessings, Smudge Bunny, in 2005 101 Exercises For The Soul and out in the Fall of 2006 a prescriptions for parenting book Love, Magic & Mud Pies. While studying abroad in Japan, 16-year-old Luna Abadia saw the effects of climate change first-hand. Typhoons were getting stronger, snow becoming rarer, and traditional crops were no longer able to grow. This inspired Luna to act. She entered a speech competition and wrote about the importance of combating climate change. Her speech got a lot of attention and Luna became a national finalist. Realizing the power her voice could have, when Luna returned home to Oregon, she founded the Effective Climate Action Project (https://www.effectiveclimateaction.org/) or ECAP for short - a youth-led organization working to increase awareness of effective solutions to climate change.
Nothing is more precious to us than our children and their innocence. But how do we know that when we drop them off at school or church it is a safe place? And what can we do to make it safer? In today's podcast, we are going to talk to my friend Jeff Dalrymple about a ministry that can help diminish the threat of sexual abuse in the church. This is a vital topic both for the safety of our children and the reputation of Christ.Jeff has been the catalyst behind a new national organization – The Evangelical Council for Abuse Prevention (or ECAP for short). In this conversation he shares about the unfortunate need for his organization, and how busy pastors and leaders will soon be able to make their churches safer places. For the glory of Christ and for the love of others, our churches should be some of the safest places on earth.
Dr. Bernie Siegel is a hoot! This episode was so much fun to do because Bernie is brilliantly funny and has so many wonderful stories of healing. In 1978, he originated ECaP, Exceptional Cancer Patients, a specific form of individual and group therapy utilizing patients' drawings, dreams, images and feelings. ECaP is based on “CAREfrontation,” a safe, loving therapeutic confrontation, which facilitates personal lifestyle changes, personal empowerment and healing of the individual's life. The physical, spiritual and psychological benefits which followed led to his desire to make everyone aware of his or her healing potential. Bernie realized exceptional behavior is what we are all capable of. Dr. Bernie Siegel broke new ground with his monumental book Love, Medicine and Miracles. Today Bernie continues to impart wisdom about the true nature of life and love in his entertaining and enlightening debut fiction novel Three Men, Six Lives. A grand adventure born of Bernie's experience of his current and past lives awaits you. When three conflicted men search for deeper meaning in their lives, through their sometimes painful and amusing explorations they discover there are no coincidences: • Jon Hokmah, an empathetic psychotherapist who comes to accept the fact that he became a therapist because of his own problems. • George Dingfelder, a stressed-out Jewish physician with a name longer than his lean body, a nervous smile, photographic memory, and a tendency to talk too much and fantasize even more. • Carmine Birsamatto, an Italian crime boss who doesn't deny he's a racketeer but makes it clear he's not a thug.

Let us know in the comments on the episode page! In This Episode Finding the power to help yourself survive by removing the blame Understanding the nature of what constitutes a miracle and how to utilize one Why you should be less concerned about being the ‘nice’ patient Forgiving your past so that you can learn more and create a better future The role intuition plays in helping patients find their voice in the medical space Quotes “The diagnosis helps the doctor, but it doesn't help the patient. But the key thing is the story, for it alone shows human background and human suffering, and only at that point can the doctor's therapy begin to operate.” (7:11) “We’re all going to die someday, but what adds to your longevity? It's not just how you eat, its how you feel.” (19:59) “There are no coincidences, it is meant to be that way, and it keeps teaching us, the open mind. Let things evolve and develop.” (40:47) “I used to hug patients, and realized after a while that I was saying ‘I need to hug you’. And I realized I was saying ‘I need’ not ‘you need a hug’. And all of the patients when I would apologize would say, we knew you needed a hug, so we gave it to you. They were helping me survive.” (47:45) “To give up all desires, what does that do to you? It changes your life so that now you are here to help.” (1:04:59) Links Dr. Bernie Siegel, M.D. Website Love, Medicine & Miracles by Dr. Bernie Siegel 365 Perscriptions for the Soul by Dr. Bernie Siegel Follow Bernie on Facebook Find the full show notes for this episode here Keep up with all things Love Is Medicine Follow Razi on Facebook |Instagram
Speaking of Partnership: Personal Stories of the Power and Payoffs of Partnership
Dr. Siegel, who prefers to be called Bernie, was born in Brooklyn, NY. For many, Bernie needs no introduction. He has touched many lives all over our planet. In 1978 he originated Exceptional Cancer Patients, a specific form of individual and group therapy utilizing patients’ drawings, dreams, images and feelings. ECaP is based on “carefrontation,” a safe, loving therapeutic confrontation, which facilitates personal lifestyle changes, personal empowerment and healing of the individual’s life. The physical, spiritual and psychological benefits which followed led to his desire to make everyone aware of his or her healing potential. He realized exceptional behavior is what we are all capable of. In 1986 his first book, Love. Medicine & Miracles was published. This event redirected his life. Bernie’s realization that we all need help dealing with the difficulties of life, not just the physical ones, led to Bernie writing his fourth book in 1998 Prescriptions for Living. Bernie has been named one of the top 20 Spiritually Influential Living People on the Planet by the Watkins Review. For more details go to www.BernieSiegelMD.com (http://berniesiegelmd.com/) . Bernie, and his wife and coworker Bobbie, live in a suburb of New Haven, Connecticut. Before I even got to ask Bernie my first question, we received all of these gems: Bernie encourages you to embarrass your children regularly. In marriage you are not giving to the other person, you are giving to the relationship. It is 1 + 1 = 3. The third entity is the relationship. You won’t believe what happened when Bernie asked a class of medical students to draw themselves as a doctor. We all need to be trained to enjoy people. One of Bernie’s sons owned a Subway franchise and Bernie asked to work for him because he loved people. Imagine being asked “How would you introduce yourself to God?” by the guy making your sandwich at Subway. Become a Love Warrior. If you want to improve your partnerships and relationships, say “I love you” to your partner everyday for 3 months. At the end of 3 months skip a day and see what you hear from the other person. Guiding Principle, Quote or Mantra Focus on being grateful for what you have and what you can do with it. The Ice Bucket Experiment Put your hand in a bucket of ice and time how long you can keep it there. Then refill the bucket. Gather your family and pets around you and put your hand back in the ice. Watch how much longer you can keep it there. Why? Because you are surrounded by people who love and care for you. And it changes you and what you are capable of achieving. It literally changes your chemistry.
