He helped set up a local soccer school in Bournemouth and managed to grow it into the number 1 regional coaching program. He was later headhunted by the biggest amateur soccer club in the US and appointed Director of Coaching in Boston. Aaaand, for Halloween itself, here's yet another spooktobery new episode of It IS The Same Log (because these days we are *all* Heather in the woods sobbing "It's not the same log!" over and over again but... I gotta tell ya... it *is*) and once again I (Jack) am joined by Elliot Chapman and George Daniel Lea. My (Jack's) October odyssey through the Media Hauntological with erudite and enthusiastic pod-mates Elliot Chapman and George Daniel Lea continues and culminates with a consideration of the source text of this show's title, 1999's terrifying, ominous, ineffable, and intensely freighted 'Found Footage' classic The Blair Witch Project, taking in digressions on The Terror, Stalker, Come and See, Salò, Cannibal Holocaust, Doctor Who, Peter Watkins, David Bowie, Baudrillard, Frederic Jameson, Lovecraft, and LeGuin. We had some technical problems at the start and poor old George was a bit runny of nose with a nasty cold (rather appropriate given that BWP features some of the most celebrated snot-shots in cinematic history) but I've worked my usual folk magic - I am to podcasts what Mary Brown (maybe?) is to threatening corn dollies and stick sculptures - and made it so listenable your ears will cancel their plan to overthrow you and run your body themselves (yes, I was in on it). As ever, my Patreon backers got advance access to this, so consider chucking me a dollar a month. I have such sights to show you... slightly earlier than I show other people. There's a substantial off-cut from the end of this conversation which you'll get as a separate extra, early next month. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Blair_Witch_Project Content warnings abound. @_Jack_Graham_ @E11iotChapman @EnigmaticElegy / http://www.strangeplaygrounds.com/ / https://www.youtube.com/user/ExaggeratedElegy
Come one, come all! Elliot Chapman, master performer and one of the finest storytellers of our Internet Age, is on Human Bondage. He witnesses strange things, like Christopher Lee's third nipple, Kit's defense of Fleming's novel, a shoutout to Wrong With Authority fans, and James bodying Christine near the end.
Aaaand here's another spooktobery new episode of It IS The Same Log (because these days we are *all* Heather in the woods sobbing "It's not the same log!" over and over again but... I gotta tell ya... it *is*) and once again I (Jack) am joined by Elliot Chapman and George Daniel Lea. This time we tackle the legendary and infamous Ghostwatch, created and aired by the BBC in 1992 much to their own horror. Written by Stephen Volk, directed by Lesley Manning. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghostwatch I would probably call this one of my very favourite pieces of uncanny media, brilliantly crafted, genuinely scary, and a veritable bottomless pit of implications. I don't find much disagreement from my co-hosts and, once again, our enthusiasm runs riot. We cover many topics from the BBC internal reaction, the public furore, media 'realism', gothic marxism, etc. We were even plagued during recording by terrifyingly appropriate technical glitches. Skype got media hauntological on our asses. Once again, my backers got days of advance access. Spooktober continues with IITSL (because these days we are *all* Heather in the woods sobbing "It's not the same log!" over and over again but... I gotta tell ya... it *is*) and a new episode that is genuinely one of my (Jack's) favourite things I've ever done, a conversation with the same team as last time (Elliot Chapman and George Daniel Lea) about the classic 1972 Nigel Kneale TV ghost story The Stone Tape, the terrifying and multi-dimensional masterpiece of the BBC gothic. Welcome to the first episode of It IS The Same Log, a new series for October, in which Jack Graham (of I Don't Speak German and the Shabcast) talks to his erudite friends Elliot Chapman and George Daniel Lea about lesser-known landmarks in the cinema and television of the uncanny. This week, it's 1980's The Changeling, an underappreciated classic of haunted cinema. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Changeling_(film) @_Jack_Graham_ @E11iotChapman @EnigmaticElegy / http://www.strangeplaygrounds.com/ / https://www.youtube.com/user/ExaggeratedElegy

A memoir by an adult with PDA, reflecting back on his early childhood through to present day. Diagnosed with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) in his teenage years, Harry Thompson looks back with wit and humour at the ups and downs of family and romantic relationships, school, work and mental health, as well as his teenage struggle with drugs and alcohol. By embracing neurodiversity and emphasising that autistic people are not flawed human beings, Thompson demonstrates that some merely need to take the "scenic route" in order to flourish and reach their full potential. The memoir brings to life Harry's past experiences and feelings, from his torrid time at school to the peaceful and meaningful moments when he is alone with a book, writing or creating YouTube videos. Eloquent and insightful, The PDA Paradox will bring readers to shock, laughter and tears through its overwhelming honesty. It is a turbulent memoir, but it ends with hope and a positive outlook to the future.

While many of the main characters in Doctor who are still with us there are several who have sadly passed. Big Finish has kept the memory of those Doctors and companions alive by recasting the parts. In this episode we once again take a step back to Chicago TARDIS 2016 and an opportunity to discuss voice acting, playing an iconic role, and Fraser Hines’ fantasies. Since this was a con panel there is no five-minute controversy. This week Fraser Hines, Elliot Chapman, and Tim Treloar join the cast. Like what you heard? In this episode, Shana and Daniel are joined by Big Finish's Elliot Chapman in chatting Thanks For the Memory. This is another fairly dark episode of Red Dwarf, with plenty of meat on the bone regarding personal histories, (the lack of) consent in altering Rimmer's mind, how we construct our selves through our memories, and the way that sandwiches can be simultaneously very wrong and very right. Also, sad but friendly parties on desolate planetoids. Main Topic: Thanks For the Memory. With special guest Elliot Chapman. Fluffing my ego. Hugh Grant. Pretext. Elitist Elliot. British history of comedy. Low-budget entertainment. Discovery. BBC Hitchhiker's. Well-known edgy poet. Series Two versus Series One. Sad. Red Dwarf progenitors. Antagonistic. Death-day. Guitar. A sad party. Forced together. Rimmer the go-go dancer. Social lubricant. Cold, dark, and empty. The Ribos Operation of Red Dwarf. Bowel surgery or babies? Not laughing. Not the engine. Constructed Memory. Metatext. Drunken haze. Consciousness and strange loops. "Many." Changing Rimmer. Allonormativity. "Bomb-ass sex." Rimmer and love. Class in science fiction. Small-c conservative. Small-n representation. Romero reference. Confabulation. Consent in the eighties. Acting in Red Dwarf. The comic timing of Danny John-Jules. Alien speeches. Memory versus experience. Personality or experience? Wrapping Up. Go pick up the latest Big Finish story featuring Elliot Chapman, The Genesis Chamber, and follow Elliot on Twitter.

In this episode Daniel and Shana return to Doctor Who and... chat. What was supposed to be a fairly concise look at the experience of looking at all the Classic companions turned into a long and meandering conversation about pretty much everything Who. Shana even says nice things about Steven Moffat! Each Classic Doctor and companion is at least mentioned, although some not for very long.... Main Topic: Classic Doctor and Companion Overview. Ninety. Daniel sucks. Big softie. Looking ahead. Dirty sneaky pirate things. Region coded DVD problems. Positive response. Comprehensive review. Joe. Really cool women. Scrutiny. Learning. History. "That's my Doctor." Tom's swag. Big Finish? Understated Davison. Matt Smith. Paired with Tegan. Sixie. McCoy's skill set. Chessmaster Seven. Tennantishness to Shana's fandom. Not going to talk about Matt Smith. Barbara is an inspiration. Manly man Ian. Zapp Brannigan! Oh, Susan. Vicki with her pigtails! "You're gonna have to show me pictures of Steven." No functional memory of Daleks' Master Plan. Or Dodo. Ben and Polly. A bit Aryan Nation. Polly and fashion. Adorable Jamie. Elliot Chapman. "The Piper!" Victoria in the kitchen. Period. In this episode, Shana and Daniel are joined once again by Elliot Chapman to discuss the end of the Sixth Doctor era in Terror of the Vervoids and the Ultimate Foe. History should be your guide here; they don't much discuss the details of the actual storyline, in favor of general conversation about acting and many examples of Shana's Mel impersonation. Main Topic: Terror of the Vervoids/The Ultimate Foe. With special guest Elliot Chapman. Not as bad as she'd thought. Castrovulva. Brian Blessed. Casting Mindwarp. Feeling bad for Peri. Bonnie Langford's "It Factor?" Shana's Mel impression. Mel as tonic. Lynda Bellingham. Performativity in the courtroom. Platonic Six. The Ultimate Time Lord. Pushing the Trial idea further. In this episode, Shana and Daniel do a whirlwind discussion of the last four episodes of Series 9, focusing on the death and resurrection of Clara (spoiler alert!) and Moffat's treatment of grief. Daniel and Shana are joined by working actor and the current Ben Jackson for Big Finish Elliot Chapman in what was supposed to be a thorough discussion of Castrovalva. As it happened, very little actual analysis of Peter Davison's first story actually occurred. Instead, the trio discuss Elliot's work for Big Finish, including working with Anneke Wills and Frazer Hines, as well as some of his techniques in capturing the authentic Ben without resorting to caricature. They then move on to discuss the Fifth Doctor era in general, especially the soapier elements and some of the pacing issues in Bidmead's script. Finally, they have a brief conversation about the actual story, largely revolving around the ideas of creations overcoming their creators and the role of the tapestry as TV screen. Main Topic: Castrovalva. With special guest Elliot Chapman. Phallic symbols. Promiscuous Elliot. Other podcasts. Ben Jackson. Shana's podcast boyfriend. The buck stops with the script. Replacing Michael Craze. Frazer and Anneke. Watching New Who with Frazer and Anneke. Jamie/Davros/Quark fan fiction. Moving into Castrovalva. Post-regeneration fog. Flawed genius. "Who cares about intention anyway?" Transition. JNT undercutting Tegan. Janet Fielding learns how to act on the job. Costumes and aesthetics. No emotions. Could have been padded in interesting ways. Earliest Who. The Sam Seeleys. Soap opera Who. A Tartovsky reference. White male oppressor. Pacing. Dealing with the format. Three acts. "Castravulva." Feminized Five. Miscast in the most wonderful way. "Get his balls back." Davison versus Baker. The fucking cricket outfit. Thatcher's jingoism. Miscast brilliantly. Posh-boy thing. Block transfer computation. The Mind Robber. Klein bottles. Moving Shardovan. The Dog Agrees! Influential Bidmead. Didn't talk about Adric's cock. Wrapping Up. Next week: The last four episodes of Series 9. Find Our Stuff! What bloody man is that? It's bloody Jack Graham. Again. Another Shabcast so soon? Yes, but don't get used to this kind of schedule. It's only happening because time is out of joint. This time, myself and my actorly buddy Elliot Chapman (returning guest from the Macra shabcast, and Big Finish's new Ben Jackson) discuss Shakespeare's great tragedy 'Macbeth', and Shakespeare generally. We even say the word 'Macbeth' occasionally... hopefully without bringing too much theatrical ill-luck down upon ourselves. We chat as we watch the TV film of Trevor Nunn's legendary production from 1978, starring Ian McKellen and Judi Dench, and produced by Verity Lambert. The second most profound material she ever televised. Elliot will be appearing in a production of 'Macbeth' soon to run in Redcliffe Caves in Bristol, produced by Insane Root as part of the Bristol Shakespeare Festival. Jack will be appearing in the kitchen soon to make himself an evil sandwich as part of a obscene, perverse ritual. Root for us insanely, and download our shabcast. Exeunt.

May is Macra Madness Month for both Pex Lives and the Shabogan Graffiti Podcast. Shabcast 5 - a mammoth discussion of lost 60s classic 'The Macra Terror' - sees Jack joined by longstanding online buddy, actor Elliot Chapman, who also happens to have recently been cast by Big Finish as the new Ben Jackson! Elliot seems to be on some kind of mission to singlehandedly disprove the old prejudice about actors being thick. And he likes Jack's blog, which Jack takes as proof of his intelligence. This is possibly the most shabgraffy Shabcast yet, i.e. lots of Doctor Who and lots of politics... as well as unrestrained ramblings about stuff as diverse as complicity, conspiracy, CRPGs, The Prisoner (of course), Herbert Marcuse, Universal horror films, Abbott and Costello, Marshall Berman, the Nazi's Degenerate Art Exhibition and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. It's another long one. But you don't *have* to listen to it. Nobody's forcing you. Ungrateful bastards.
