Shaan Patel is here to discuss how you can slash the cost of college through some more advanced strategies. We also discuss major education changes packed into the “Big Beautiful Bill,” starting with the introduction of new Trump Accounts—a kind of IRA for minors with no deductions and withdrawal restrictions until age 18. We cover expanded uses for 529 plans, including tutoring, test prep, homeschool materials, and more. Repayment options are narrowed down to just two, and several popular income-driven plans are scrapped. We also talk about how Pell Grants are being expanded for short-term workforce programs and the future of the Department of Education as it sees deep funding cuts—all pointing to less federal support, more private lending, and a growing need for serious college planning. We discuss... Major education reforms packed into the “Big Beautiful Bill,” starting with the new Trump Account—a savings vehicle for minors with a $5,000 annual cap, no deductions, and no early withdrawals. The bill expands 529 plans to cover tutoring, test prep, online learning, homeschool materials, and special education services. A new federal tax credit scholarship program allows individuals and corporations to donate up to $1,700 annually to scholarship organizations, with a 100% tax credit. There's also $500 million in grants for “American Values” curricula promoting patriotism and national pride. On the college side, new federal loan caps include $100K for master's degrees, $200K for professional degrees (like law or med school), and a $257,500 lifetime limit—while Grad PLUS loans are eliminated entirely. Repayment options are now limited to a standard plan or a new Repayment Assistance Plan (RAP), ending other income-based programs like SAVE and PAYE. Public Service Loan Forgiveness survives but faces tighter eligibility, and deferment options for hardship have been significantly cut. Workforce Pell Grants are expanded to include short-term training programs (8–15 weeks) for in-demand technical jobs. Wealthy universities face a major increase in endowment taxes—up to 8%—especially impacting Ivy League schools. The Department of Education will see a nearly 20% discretionary funding cut over five years, potentially affecting programs like TRIO that help low-income students access college. With fewer federal dollars and tighter lending, private loans may fill the gap—making proactive college and financial planning more critical than ever. Parents of younger students (7th–10th grade) should start planning early for the PSAT. Key Takeaways: Stock Options: A Win-Win for Everyone: Think of stock options like a special kind of bonus. Instead of just getting extra cash, employees get the chance to buy a piece of the company at a discounted price. If the company does well and the stock price goes up, they can sell their shares and make a profit. It's a win-win: employees are motivated to help the company succeed, and the company gets to keep its top talent. Tax Perks: Stock options can be a great way to save on taxes, both for the employees and the company. It's like getting a discount on your favorite candy! Sweat Equity: Turning Hard Work into Ownership: For startups that might be short on cash, "sweat equity" is a way to reward employees for their hard work. It's like saying, "We can't pay you a lot right now, but if we succeed, you'll own a piece of the pie." Keeping Your Star Players: In competitive industries, it's tough to keep your best employees from jumping ship. Stock options and profit interests are like golden handcuffs - they give employees a reason to stick around and help the company grow. Get Expert Help: Stock options can be a bit tricky, so it's important to talk to the pros (like accountants, lawyers, and financial advisors) before setting up a plan. They'll help you make sure everything is done right and everyone benefits. Real Estate Investing With Jay Conner, The Private Money Authority
*** Guest AppearanceCredits to:https://www.youtube.com/@bulletproofselling660 "Interview with Jay Conner on Bulletproof Selling"https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeNL5xrROfU In the world of real estate investing, raising private money can be pivotal to fueling your business growth. Similarly, in any sales-related field, understanding and speaking your prospect's language can determine the success of your endeavors. In a recent episode of the Bulletproof Selling podcast, hosts Jay Conner and Shawn Rhodes delve into these compelling topics, offering valuable insights from their experiences. Jay shares his journey of achieving a whopping $8.5 million in private funding and teaches how understanding your prospects can transform your sales strategy.Jay Conner's Journey: From Mobile Homes to Private Money MaestroJay Conner, raised in the mobile home business, transitioned into single-family houses in 2003. Initially relying on local banks for funding, Jay faced a significant setback during the financial crisis in 2009 when his credit lines were severed. This period of adversity led him to discover the power of private money lending. Jay soon realized that individual investors could fund real estate deals using their investment capital or retirement funds, setting him free from the dependency on traditional banking institutions. The Private Money ApproachJay has never had to ask for a sale directly or pitch a deal. His strategy revolves around educating potential private lenders about the benefits of private money lending. By wearing his "private money teacher hat" and addressing people's unawareness, Jay was able to build trust and attract funding without the need for hard selling. His unique approach ensures that he serves his prospective lenders by improving their financial situation, which in turn attracts the funds he needs for his real estate ventures.Understanding and Speaking Your Prospect's LanguageShawn Rhodes emphasizes the importance of understanding your prospect's language to sideline hope-based sales tactics. Many salespeople mistakenly assume that their prospects fully understand the intricacies of their offerings. This misconception often leads to failed communication and lost opportunities.Jay and Shawn highlight key steps to better connect with prospects:Research and Practice: The Cornerstones of Effective CommunicationJay advises starting with comprehensive research to understand who your prospect is and what language they speak. By joining mastermind groups and engaging with successful peers, salespeople can gather insights into effective communication strategies. Jay underscores the importance of practicing these conversations before approaching actual prospects. In his own field, he recommends speaking to out-of-state property owners first to practice scripts and build confidence.Recording and Reviewing CallsRecording calls is another effective strategy endorsed by Jay and Shawn. By using apps that allow you to record conversations, salespeople can later review their calls to identify what went well and what needs improvement. It's crucial to reflect on the recorded interactions and consistently seek feedback from mentors or more experienced professionals to refine the approach.Metrics and Conversion RatesMeasurement is a fundamental aspect of improvement. Jay advises tracking conversions to understand the effectiveness of your communication strategies. By comparing the number of calls made before and after receiving feedback, salespeople can gauge improvements in their conversion rates. This practice allows for a dynamic approach to sales, enabling continual adjustme
