Rozłóż sobie matę lub koc, daj sobie tyle czasu ile widzisz, że trwa lekcja. Jeśli nie masz tyle czasu, to zrób jej część. Zawsze 10-15 minut lekcji, głębokiej uważności na sobie, na tym jak się poruszamy jest dużo cenniejsze niż nic. Niech brak wystarczającej ilości czasu, by zrobić całą lekcje nie zniechęci Cię do praktykowania. Tak jak z książką, nie musisz przeczytać całej za jednym razem, możesz czytać rozdziałami, lub poszczególnymi stronami. Zegar pod miednicą to klasyka Metody Feldenkraisa, do której lubię wracać. Za każdym razem prowadzę ją trochę w innej odsłonie, z innym ukierunkowaniem uwagi i innymi wariantami ruchu. Zegar miednicą to ważna lekcja, która już powoli wchodzi do kanonu ćwiczeń wykraczając poza granice Metody Feldenkraisa. To co różni ją jak i wszystkie inne lekcje od "ćwiczeń" jest uwaga, uważność przeradzająca się w większą świadomość siebie. Jak zawsze zachęcam by ćwiczyć powoli, uważnie, delikatnie, łagodnie. To nie ruch, w którym dajemy sobie wycisk. To subtelny ruch, w którym odkrywamy subtelności ruchu, po to by móc łatwiej, lżej i zdrowiej poruszać się na co dzień. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Wellesley College, served in the Peace Corps in Brazil for three years, and received a Master's degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. From 2000 to 2001, she was a Fellow in Medical Ethics at Harvard Medical School. She has been a Lecturer on Medicine at Harvard Medical School, a Knight Science Journalism Fellow at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a Senior Fellow at the Schuster Institute for Investigative Journalism at Brandeis University. Kathryn “Rosie” Lanphere received her Ph.D. in Physical Education, Sports, and Exercise Science from the University of New Mexico in 2013. She is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). Dr. Lanphere has directed 5 education abroad programs for the University of Kentucky since arriving in the Fall of 2013 in Spain and the United Kingdom. Her previous areas of research included autophagy, aging, pediatric body composition, environmental and endurance exercise. Dr. Lanphere's main role is to teach and instructs the following undergraduate courses; KHP 350, Strength and Conditioning for Sports; KHP 450, Introduction to Exercise Testing and Prescription; KHP 205, Anatomy and Physiology for Health and Physical Education; and KHP 420G, The Physiology of Exercise. She is currently the program director for the Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science Program (non-teacher certification) and is the faculty mentor of the Exercise is Medicine-On Campus student organization. We have invited Professor Robert Newton to give us all the information about why exercise is medicine and how it can help with fighting cancer. Kendall (NP from Restorative Sexual Health Clinic) will be joining me as my co-presenter for this episode. So... if you've been putting off adding exercise as part of your treatment plan, Dr Newton's detailed explanation will encourage you to take that leap. As will be explained in the podcast, exercise can play a big role in your recovery, especially with providing an environment that is anti-cancer. Dr Robert has emphasised the importance of using highly targeted exercises to address various issues. To help you understand this better, he has provided a great example that we hope will make this clearer. In 2018 he received the career achievement award from the Cancer Council WA and was a finalist for Western Australian of the Year and finalist for the Premier's Science Award. In 2019, Professor Newton was named the Western Australian Premier's Scientist of the Year. In 2021, The University of Queensland awarded Professor Newton a Higher Doctorate (DSc) for his research into exercise oncology. Professor Newton was a finalist in the Research Australia Health and Medical Research Awards for 2021 and received a Highly Commended Frontiers Award.   Professor Newton has published over 1000 scientific papers including 502 refereed scientific journal articles, 450 conference abstracts and papers, three books, 17 book chapters and has a current Scopus h-Index of 88 with his work being cited over 26,500 times. Topic of greatest publication output is exercise and cancer for a field-weighted citation impact of 3.00 and prominence percentile of 99.31. There are very few people (particularly listeners of the Wellness Paradox) that would dispute the notion that exercise is medicine. On many levels this is the rallying cry of our profession. While it may be that potent message, we need more than a strong rallying cry to make exercise is medicine a reality within the healthcare community. Operationalizing exercise is medicine into clinical practice has been a significant strategic emphasis of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), through their Exercise is Medicine® (EIM) initiative. The ACSM's EIM program seeks to make physical activity assessment and promotion a standard of clinical care around the globe.  In episode 67 we talk with Robyn Stuhr, the Vice President of Exercise is Medicine® at the ACSM. Our discussion will focus on the important pillars needed to make EIM a reality, clinically. First, we'll discuss the newly revamped Exercise is Medicine® curriculum. This specialty certificate, offered by ACSM, provides fitness professionals with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to work with individuals who have common chronic diseases. Furthermore, it also provides an understanding of the healthcare landscape and health coaching principles for lasting behavior change. Overall, this revamp is an exciting iteration of the previous curriculum. Our conversation also expanded to the other levers that must be pulled to operationalize the exercise is medicine objectives of assessment and promotion. As we'll discuss, consistency in academic curriculum, electronic health record integration, policy level changes, strong clinical champions, and a robust infrastructure for community referral are all areas that must be addressed. In episode 14 we're joined by Dr. Mark Stoutenberg from the American College of Sports Medicine Exercise is Medicine initiative. This conversation is at the very intersection of the Wellness Paradox as it discusses how we integrate physical activity assessment and intervention into clinical workflows for physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. In essence, it is the integration of fitness and wellness professionals into the healthcare delivery system (in other words, our holy grail).  The ASCM has been hard at work for years trying to make exercise a first line treatment for chronic lifestyle disease such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and chronic pain syndromes. As self-evident as the concept of exercise is medicine is, implementation at a large scale is difficult due to multifactorial challenges. Limitations in reimbursement, clinician time, and lack of cost effectiveness data have slowed the propagation of this important initiative.As we'll discuss in this episode, we must come together as a fitness and wellness community. We must emphasize with clinicians, insurers, and the public the important role exercise as medicine can play in addressing the chronic burden of disease. We must choose this as our line in the sand as fitness and wellness professionals. The fate of our public health and our economy hang in the balance.  OUR GUEST: Dr. Mark Stoutenberg, Ph.D., MSPHMark Stoutenberg is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Kinesiology Department at Temple University. Mark earned his PhD in Exercise Physiology (2008), a Master's in Public Health (2011), and was a faculty member in the Department of Public Health at the University of Miami (2011-18). His research experience involves the examination of exercise interventions in different populations, such as untrained, inactive adults, breast cancer survivors, and individuals with substance abuse disorders. His current work explores how aspects of implementation science can be used to further the integration of physical activity in health care settings and the utilization of referral networks that link patients to community resources.Mark has served as a Program Officer with the EIM team since 2013. He helps coordinate the international expansion of the EIM Global Health Network and EIM Learning Research Collaborative, the development of clinical and community tools, the integration of physical activity into health professional training programs, as well as supports several EIM committees.

Chase's answer: The life you've always dreamed of. Now, Kyle was in a position where his need to change something had become a life or death scenario, and his fear of the negative repercussions of giving up drinking was so powerful, taking his own life seemed like a better option. Having occupied that headspace myself, where death seems like the BEST outcome, I can say with all sincerity - I hope no one listening to this ever has to face that feeling. However, I do think there is something very valuable in taking inventory of your habits and identifying whether any of them are more harmful than they are helpful, and whether you are continuing to allow them to be a part of your life because you are afraid of what happens if you give them up.
