In this episode of Supply Chain Now, hosts Scott W. Luton and Karin Bursa sit down with Abe Eshkenazi, CEO of the Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM), to unpack the latest insights from the 2025 Supply Chain Salary and Career Report. Together, they explore how the role of supply chain professionals is evolving, and what the data tells us about compensation, career satisfaction, and the path forward for the industry.Abe shares what's changed since the report began in 2017, from a $78,000 median salary to over $103,000 today, and why supply chain roles are now seen as strategic—not just operational. They discuss trends in workforce demographics, flexible work, and the narrowing gender pay gap, as well as the impact of certifications on career growth.Jump into the conversation:(00:00) Intro(00:50) Supply chain salary and career report(02:08) Introducing special guest: Abe Eshkenazi(02:38) Early career memories(04:20) History of the research report(04:48) Compensation and job satisfaction(07:34) Gender pay gap insights(08:09) Diversity and career satisfaction(11:18) Technological advancements and opportunities(12:14) Top takeaways from the report(17:53) Surprising elements of the report(19:02) The importance of supply chain professionalsResources:Connect with Abe Eshkenazi: https://www.linkedin.com/in/aeshkenazi/ Learn more about Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM): https://www.ascm.org/ Connect with Karin Bursa: https://www.linkedin.com/in/karinbursa/Connect with Scott: https://www.linkedin.com/in/scottwindonluton/ Learn more about Supply Chain Now: https://supplychainnow.com Watch and listen to more Supply Chain Now episodes here: https://supplychainnow.com/program/supply-chain-now Subscribe to Supply Chain Now on your favorite platform: https://supplychainnow.com/join Work with us!

//The Wire//1830Z May 23, 2024////ROUTINE////BLUF: MAJOR CHINESE EXERCISES BEGIN IVO TAIWAN. NORTH CAROLINA SHOOTING HIGHLIGHTS INCREASED THREAT ENVIRONMENT.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Far East: This morning China announced major exercises in the waters around Taiwan. China's exercise (Joint Sword-2024A) has so far involved a handful of ships carrying out demonstrations and joint maneuvers in the Taiwan Strait. AC: A few days ago, Lai Ching-te was sworn in as Taiwan's President. As such, this exercise almost certainly related to political events in Taiwan. Nevertheless, Taiwanese forces have responded in kind, deploying substantial defenses (such as mobile ASCM launchers) at critical locations around the island.-HomeFront-North Carolina: Local media has become aware of a suspicious shooting incident that took place earlier this month. Originally kept quiet due to the investigation, details were released last night surrounding a shooting death involving a Special Operations soldier in Moore County. On May 3rd, local authorities were dispatched to a residence in Carthage in response to a trespassing complaint. Allegedly, the 911 caller also noted that the individual was taking pictures of their residence. After some time, an altercation occurred resulting in the trespassing individual being shot multiple times after allegedly becoming aggressive. Local authorities have identified the man who was shot and killed as Ramzan Daraev. The shooter's name has been withheld for the moment, but has been identified as a member of the Special Operations community.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: The details of the Moore County shooting raise many red flags. Originally, Daraev was said to be an employee of Utilities One, a local electrical utility subcontractor. However at the time of the shooting he was located hundreds of feet onto the caller's property, was not wearing a uniform, and did not have any identification or equipment suggesting any official work for a utility company. Local media claims Daraev was from Chicago, however he was originally born in Chechnya. This is supported by the foreign identity documents that were reportedly found at the scene. Furthermore, some media sources claim that an accomplice fled the scene in a rental car following the shooting. As this is a developing incident that took place in a highly sensitive community, there is absolutely more to this story than meets the eye.As a reminder, a very common tactic for foreign intelligence agents is to obtain employment with an entity that grants semi-legitimate access to sensitive locations, such as private residences within a well-known Special Operations community.Factoring in other trends, and with the understanding that examining events of this magnitude and secrecy must rely on quite a bit of speculation, the tens of thousands of military aged males entering the southern border daily have highlighted the clear and present dangers to American society. It has become extremely clear over the past few months that foreign intelligence activities on U.S. soil have reached heights reminiscent of (and almost certainly surpassing) the height of the Cold War.Considering the 2022 mysterious electrical substation attack in the exact same area as the recent Moore County shooting, it is likely that the shadow war on American soil is continuing to escalate to include targeting the personal lives and family members of the Special Operations community.Incidents surrounding security breaches at U.S. military bases have also quietly been increasing over the past few months. For instance, Marine Corps Base Quantico quietly revealed that on May 3rd, the same day as the Moore County shooting, two Jordanian nationals attempted to breach the main gate while driving a box truck. Allegedly, one of the individuals detained in this incident was on a known terror

//The Wire//1930Z February 20, 2024////ROUTINE////BLUF: HOUTHI FORCES INTENSIFY ATTACKS, SHOOT DOWN AMERICAN DRONE.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Red Sea/HOA: Significant escalations in the region have taken place following the successful attack on the M/V RUBYMAR with many commercial vessels being targeted by a variety of Houthi weapons systems. The following is a summary of the vessels targeted yesterday: M/V SEA CHAMPION – Struck with one Anti-Ship Ballistic Missile (ASBM). Minor damage reported.M/V NAVIS FORTUNA – Struck with kamikaze drone. Minor damage reported.USS LABOON (DDG 58) – Attacked with ASCM, which was successfully intercepted. No damage reported.Additionally, CENTCOM reports various un-named coalition vessels engaging a total of 10 kamikaze drones in the region overnight.Last night, Houthi forces reported successfully shooting down an American MQ-9 Reaper drone off the coast of Yemen. Though CENTCOM has not officially confirmed the shootdown, local Yemenis have posted photos of the debris on various social media platforms. AC: This morning, CENTCOM did make a reference to destroying a SAM site for the first time in this conflict. However, this conveniently leaves out the reasoning behind locating the SAM site likely being the result of an MQ-9 being shot down.-Homefront-NY: A large nationwide trucking protest has begun to become more organized. Various independent truckers are organizing to boycott deliveries to New York following the perceived injustice of the outcome of Donald Trump's civil trial. AC: This protest officially started yesterday, but due to the media blackout of this demonstration it has taken time for many truckers to hear about it. The specific goals of this protest are to deliberately cause shortages of resources and increase prices for New Yorkers.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: Few details remain regarding the status of the M/V RUBYMAR, the vessel that was reportedly sunk Sunday night, and thus leading to the current escalation of the conflict in the Gulf of Aden. Though the crew reported both taking on water and uncontrolled fires before abandoning ship, it is unclear as to if the vessel has finished sinking or if salvage operations will attempt to be conducted. As the crew has abandoned ship, for simplicity the M/V RUBYMAR will be referred to as ‘sunk' until more information becomes available.Regarding the probable shootdown of an American drone off the coast of Yemen, this could temporarily increase concerns for commercial aviation throughout the region in addition to the merchant shipping woes. This is the second recent shootdown of an American drone in the region, with Houthi forces shooting down another American MQ-9 back in November of last year. As the MQ-9 platform is a high-flying asset, the weapons system used to target this drone would also certainly be capable of targeting commercial aviation. This is further reinforced by CENTCOM's announcement of striking a SAM site. It is almost certain that the asset used to target the drone was an SA-6 GAINFUL surface-to-air missile system, the same asset used to down the first MQ-9 in November.Analyst: S2A1//END REPORT//

Supply chain disruptions and shifts in ESG requirements have changed how companies are operating, making it more important than ever to use the right tools and processes to reach resilience, profit, and sustainability goals. Peter Bolstorff, Executive Vice President of Innovation and Business Intelligence at ASCM (Association for Supply Chain Management), joins Allen Jacques, Industry Thought Leader at Kinaxis, to talk about staying ahead in this changing landscape. As part of this discussion, they explore the revamped SCOR DS (Supply Chain Operations Deference Digital Standard), a digital, open-access model providing methodology, diagnostic and benchmarking tools so organizations can make rapid improvements in supply chain processes. Peter talks about changes adopted in SCOR DS to address today's challenges, including the need for bi-directional, concurrent supply chain orchestration and new metrics that account for resilience, profit, and sustainability. [3:10]Peter discusses the idea of resilience, and how the supply chain can improve an organization's ability to be resilient. He speaks about two dimensions to resilience: operational resilience (being faced with disruption and needing to respond immediately) and strategic resilience (processes that allow you to learn from this situation, add it to a playbook, and be more resilient and agile in future responses). He also talks about the importance of balancing both dimensions to operationalize resilience. [7:25]Peter touches on the trends that supply chain professionals should be focusing on. For the first time they're seeing a substantial shift, with a dominant theme of using AI to be more sustainable. ASCM's own Melissa Freeland, discusses Digital Transformation in Supply Chain - Challenges and Opportunities in our changing world. Interesting Q & A Session
In episode 14 we're joined by Dr. Mark Stoutenberg from the American College of Sports Medicine Exercise is Medicine initiative. This conversation is at the very intersection of the Wellness Paradox as it discusses how we integrate physical activity assessment and intervention into clinical workflows for physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. In essence, it is the integration of fitness and wellness professionals into the healthcare delivery system (in other words, our holy grail). The ASCM has been hard at work for years trying to make exercise a first line treatment for chronic lifestyle disease such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and chronic pain syndromes. As self-evident as the concept of exercise is medicine is, implementation at a large scale is difficult due to multifactorial challenges. Limitations in reimbursement, clinician time, and lack of cost effectiveness data have slowed the propagation of this important initiative. As we'll discuss in this episode, we must come together as a fitness and wellness community. We must emphasize with clinicians, insurers, and the public the important role exercise as medicine can play in addressing the chronic burden of disease. We must choose this as our line in the sand as fitness and wellness professionals. The fate of our public health and our economy hang in the balance. OUR GUEST: Dr. Mark Stoutenberg, Ph.D., MSPHMark Stoutenberg is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Kinesiology Department at Temple University. Mark earned his PhD in Exercise Physiology (2008), a Master's in Public Health (2011), and was a faculty member in the Department of Public Health at the University of Miami (2011-18). His research experience involves the examination of exercise interventions in different populations, such as untrained, inactive adults, breast cancer survivors, and individuals with substance abuse disorders. His current work explores how aspects of implementation science can be used to further the integration of physical activity in health care settings and the utilization of referral networks that link patients to community resources.Mark has served as a Program Officer with the EIM team since 2013. He helps coordinate the international expansion of the EIM Global Health Network and EIM Learning Research Collaborative, the development of clinical and community tools, the integration of physical activity into health professional training programs, as well as supports several EIM committees.
