Sarah got mixed up in a felony and for a second was going to take matters into her own hands and try to apprehend the bandit because she "loves justice." Thankfully she realized Ann Taylor Loft's Loss Prevention isn't worth fighting for. Scientists turned a spider web red, and while we want to be excited we can't figure out why we should care. We discuss our least favorite creatures and we realize Susie's hatred of stink bugs is the insect equivalent of Sarah's fear of things that scurry. We learn the connection between golf courses and a neurological disease. Sarah watched a short film about people who dress up in crane costumes and dance to help the species, and she loves it so much, but Susie can't get past the documentary's name. But the real magic happened at the end of the show when Susie found out the Cheers' actor George Wendt died, and we lose our minds about the crazy coincidence of her finding out today.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/photograph-scandal-turning-point-how-to-be-happyConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP on X: https://www.x.com/braincandypodSponsors:For 20% off your order, head to https://www.harvesthosts.com and use code BRAINCANDYFor 15% off your order and a special gift, head to https://pacagen.com/braincandyCancel your unwanted subscriptions and reach your financial goals faster with Rocket Money. Hip-hop icon Sean Combs, widely known as Diddy, Puff Daddy, or simply Puffy, remains at the center of one of the most closely watched legal battles in the music industry. As of early June 2025, Combs faces five felony charges, including racketeering conspiracy, two counts of sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, and two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. These charges stem from an investigation that included high-profile federal raids on his Los Angeles and Miami properties in March 2024. Since his arrest in September last year, Combs has been held without bail in New York, awaiting the start of a landmark trial. The courtroom drama has been filled with explosive testimony and emotional accounts from multiple witnesses. Cassie Ventura, Combs' former girlfriend and a central figure in both his personal and legal turmoil, has delivered more than 20 hours of tearful testimony. Ventura spoke in detail about what she claims was a decade-long pattern of degrading sexual violence, intimidation, and manipulation at Combs' hands. Prosecutors have outlined how Combs allegedly used drugs, threats, and his vast wealth to coerce Ventura—and later an unidentified Jane Doe—into participating in what he called “freak offs.” Ventura's earlier civil lawsuit against Combs was settled for what she described as $20 million, but her testimony continues to play a pivotal role in the ongoing criminal proceedings.Beyond Ventura, a former personal assistant using the pseudonym “Mia” recently took the stand, describing a chaotic, toxic workplace and repeated episodes of alleged physical and sexual assault. Mia's account included claims that Combs threw her against walls, into pools, and subjected her to threats and intimidation. She recounted receiving demanding messages from Combs and feeling that refusing his orders was never an option. Mia also alleged that Combs once kidnapped her at gunpoint and threatened to kill rapper Kid Cudi, all of which Combs denies.Combs and his legal team have pleaded not guilty to all charges, insisting that all relationships and encounters were consensual and denying any wrongdoing. The Bad Boy Records founder, known for shaping the sound of modern hip-hop, is now fighting to preserve his legacy and freedom as the charges and testimonies mount. The trial is expected to continue for several more weeks, with each new day bringing further revelations and heightened tension in a case that has gripped audiences far beyond the music world.

ABOUT THE EPISODE:Henry Maxwell began drinking and smoking marijuana at 12 and by 17, was an IV heroin & cocaine user. Not long afterward, his experimentation expanded to nearly every scheduled drug he could find, from Xanax to amphetamines and highly unregulated substances like ‘spice'. His teen years were largely spent among serious drug users twice his age, and involved many of the traumatic experiences common in that high-risk lifestyle. At the age of 17, Henry was hospitalized for a cocaine overdose that mimicked the symptoms of a heart attack, leaving him afraid for his own life. When an attending nurse asked if he was interested in treatment, he knew he had to say yes, or he wouldn't make it to see his 21st birthday. To this day, Henry has only worked in one field: addiction and recovery. He now has a BA in psychology and certifications in mediation, intervention, and addiction. Through Maxwell Recovery Services, he has dedicated his professional life to helping families where a young person is struggling with substance misuse or addiction. In this episode, we discuss the complexities of topics like intervention and return to use, how parents can craft longer-term strategies that look beyond daily crises, and the importance of support systems for the entire family.EPISODE RESOURCES:Maxwell Recovery Services websiteMan's Search For Meaning on Amazon This podcast is part of a nonprofit called Hopestream CommunityLearn about The Stream, our private online community for momsFind us on Instagram hereFind us on YouTube hereDownload a free e-book, Worried Sick: A Compassionate Guide For Parents When Your Teen or Young Adult Child Misuses Drugs and AlcoholHopestream Community is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organization and an Amazon Associate. Hillsdale College Radio General Manager and Radio Free Hillsdale Hour host Scot Bertram fills in for Jim on Tuesday's 3 Martini Lunch. Join Scot and Greg as they dissect the media's latest effort to protect President Biden, a New Jersey congresswoman facing a felony charge, a Justice Department probe into the Chicago mayor's hiring practices, and college students increasingly leaning on artificial intelligence to complete their coursework.First, after a quick take on the media once again running interference for Biden, Scot and Greg focus on U.S. Attorney Alina Habba charging New Jersey Rep. LaMonica McIver with assaulting, impeding, and interfering with law enforcement during an incident at a New Jersey ICE facility earlier this month. House Democrats are outraged and are threatening retaliation. Scot notes the partisan double standard when it comes to legal accountability, while Greg dismisses the idea that elected officials are somehow immune from arrest under any circumstances.Next, they examine the Justice Department's investigation into whether Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson discriminated in city hiring by prioritizing candidates based on race. The probe follows Johnson's recent remarks explaining his preference for hiring black employees. Scot says the issue becomes obvious when you read the same statement but refer to a different race. Finally, they shake their heads as college professors are scrambling to stop students from using artificial intelligence to do their work. They're also stunned at how helpless many students feel without it. Scot shares how Hillsdale addresses the problem and argues the issue reveals something deeper about why students attend college in the first place. Please visit our great sponsors:It's free, online, and easy to start—no strings attached. Investigative journalists Mandy Matney and Liz Farrell — and the whole LUNASHARK team — are celebrating 100 episodes of True Sunlight Podcast, the show that emerged from their relentless pursuit of justice in the highly acclaimed Murdaugh Murders Podcast (which, of course, is the basis for the star-studded Hulu scripted series currently filming in Atlanta). What better way to celebrate two years of post-Murdaugh reporting than with an old throwback … breaking Murdaugh news on a Wednesday! Former Colleton County Clerk of Court Becky Hill was arrested and charged with four felony counts — two misconduct in office charges, an obstruction of justice charge and perjury. Though three of the charges are related to Alex Murdaugh's murder trial they are NOT related to Dick and Jim's claims of jury-tampering. Two of the charges are specifically related to photos of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh's dead bodies, which were allegedly leaked to a "news" agency during the trial and later distributed to random people following the Murdaugh case. Hmmm... But will these charges affect Alex's chances at getting a new trial? Also on the show, an update in the (18:49) Jane Doe lawsuits against Myrtle Beach “pastor” John-Paul Miller. Plus, our continuing coverage of (34:17) the Weldon Boyd Calls. From the second North Myrtle Beach businessman opened his truck door after shooting 33-year-old Scott Spivey of Tabor City, North Carolina, to death in September 2023, Boyd began his search for the perfect narrative — one that would explain his presence on Camp Swamp Road and fit the definition of the Stand Your Ground law; that would explain why Scott was shot to death in the back and in his truck; one that integrated the emerging bits of information Weldon appeared to be getting from the shadows of the so-called investigation by Horry County Police Department. Lots to cover, so let's dive in...

The Informed Citizen – Vigilante Justice in SeattleIn this eye-opening episode, host Philip Lindholm sits down with investigative journalist Jonathan Choe and newly elected Pierce County Sheriff Keith Swank to tackle one of the most disturbing trends in the Pacific Northwest: the rise of vigilante justice in Seattle. With lawlessness on the rise and faith in public institutions waning, citizens are beginning to take matters into their own hands—and this episode explores why.Episode Highlights:Seattle's Descent into LawlessnessFrom teens wielding axes to open-air drug markets andemboldened squatters, Jonathan Choe reveals what his reporting has uncovered on the streets of Seattle. He describes a city where criminal behavior is often met with little to no consequence—and where both residents and law enforcement feel powerless.Broken Systems, Demoralized ForcesSheriff Keith Swank explains how decades of policy shifts have created a vacuum of enforcement. Felonies downgraded to misdemeanors, understaffed police departments, and lenient prosecution have undermined public safety and shaken morale among officers. Why Vigilantism Is on the RiseAs public trust evaporates, homeowners and landlords areturning to private security—or taking justice into their own hands. From landlords evicting squatters at gunpoint to citizens threatening to 'bring the homies,' the line between justice and revenge is becoming dangerously thin.Addiction, Homelessness, and Misdiagnosed CausesThe conversation turns to root causes. Both Swank and Choereject the 'more affordable housing will fix it' narrative, pointing instead to addiction, untreated mental illness, and a lack of accountability. They argue that real compassion includes intervention and involuntary treatment—notenabling behavior in the name of tolerance.A Tale of Two CountiesSwank contrasts Seattle's decline with his new leadership inPierce County, where he's reforming the Sheriff's Office from within. He explains how he's building trust, elevating qualified leaders, and restoring morale to ensure Pierce County doesn't become the next King County.Case Study: The Squatter Who StayedIn a stunning example, Choe recounts the case of SteveHickey—a social media influencer and former fire commissioner who illegally occupied a million-dollar home for nearly a year, using legal loopholes and bankruptcy filings to evade eviction. The rightful homeowner? Homeless. Thesystem? Broken.Takeaways:This gripping episode is a must-listen for anyone concernedabout justice, safety, and the social contract. It doesn't just diagnose the problem—it demands that we rethink what real public safety looks like, who enforces it, and what happens when they don't.This podcast is for informational purposes only and notprofessional advice. The parent of a school shooter in Wisconsin is facing charges in connection to the case. The AP's Jennifer King reports.
The TAKE IT DOWN Act is the first major U.S. federal law to squarely target non‑consensual intimate imagery (NCII) and to include a component requiring tech companies to act. Long handled via a patchwork of state laws, it criminalizes NCII at the federal level—both authentic images and AI-generated digital forgeries—and requires that platforms remove reported NCII within 48 hours of notification by a victim or victim's representative. TAKE IT DOWN passed with wide bipartisan support—unanimously in the Senate, and 409-2 in the House. Melania Trump championed it, and it is expected that President Trump will sign it. And yet, some of the cyber civil rights organizations that have led the fight to mitigate the harms of NCII over many years have serious reservations about the bill as passed. Why?Lawfare Contributing Editor Renée DiResta sits down with Mary Anne Franks, President and Legislative & Technology Policy Director at the Cyber Civil Rights Initiative, and Eugene L. and Barbara A. Bernard Professor in Intellectual Property, Technology, and Civil Rights Law at the George Washington Law School; Becca Branum, Deputy Director of the Free Expression Project at the Center for Democracy & Technology; and Adam Conner, Vice President, Technology Policy at the Center for American Progress to unpack what the bill does, why it suddenly cruised through on a rare bipartisan wave of support, and whether its sweeping takedown mandate will protect victims or chill lawful speech. This is a nuanced discussion; some of the guests support specific aspects of the bill, while disagreeing about the implementation of others. Expect clear explanations, constructive disagreement, and practical takeaways for understanding this important piece of legislation.More resources:TAKE IT DOWN Act Legislative Summary and TextBecca Branum and Tom Bowman's letter urging changes to TAKE IT DOWN prior to passageCyber Civil Rights InitiativeSenate press release upon House signing, including list of 120 supporting organizationsTo receive ad-free podcasts, become a Lawfare Material Supporter at www.patreon.com/lawfare. Today on the Guy Benson Show, Guy sat down with Carl DeMaio, CA State Representative, Assembly District 75, to discuss a shocking story out of the CA General Assembly. The story involves Democrats blocking a bill that would make it a felony to buy sex from a 16 or 17-year-old. The Democrats claim that the issue is because of "injustices" towards minority demographics and members of the LGBT community, and Guy and Carl discuss the absurd nature of this claim from the Democrats. The Democrats originally passed the loophole that would prevent buying sex from a minor a felony years ago, and now continue to use anti-LGBT stereotypes to block the closing of said loophole. Today our guests are Stephen Barrera and Scott Simpson, attorneys for BRCK Criminal Defense. https://www.brckdefense.com/ We will be discussing how to stay out of trouble and how to stay safe during San Antonio’s 2025 Fiesta, including myths about avoiding criminal charges and convictions for DWI, drug possession, and assault. Then we will discuss case studies of someone who was charged, plead no contest or convicted of a crime and changed their life from sinner to saint. Finally, we will talk about legacies including how someone could leave an inheritance with conditions or restrictions to incentivize sobriety and employment. The mission of Talk Law Radio is to help you discover your legal issue blind spots by listening to me talk about the law on the radio. The state bar of Texas is the state agency that governs attorney law licenses. The State Bar wants attorneys to inform the public about the law but does not want us to attempt to solve your individual legal problems upon the basis of general information. Instead, contact an attorney like Todd A. Marquardt at Marquardt Law Firm, P.C. to discuss your specific facts and circumstances of your unique situation. Leave a legacy that makes a positive impact on people's lives Chat online at MarquardtLawFirm.com to schedule an appointment to help you create a legally enforceable last will, living trust, or tax protected inheritance plan. Note from Jeannine:Hey, y'all! Today's episode originally aired in 2023 and it's one of my all time favorite episodes and I feel it deserves a revival! My friend, Sara Clark, grew up using very early with her dad and eventually her use developed into full blown addiction. Sara was arrested multiple times, including twice in one week! After finally getting sober, Sara returned to school, graduated AND completed law school and is now an attorney in Oklahoma. I absolutely love this woman, and I know you will too.Connect with Sara on InstagramDM me on InstagramMessage me on FacebookListen AD FREE & workout with me on Patreon Laugh with me on TikTokEmail me chasingheroine@gmail.com
