Episode 279-Fighting For or Against You? There's a recurring question that has been playing throughout my mind. Are we fighting for God or are we maybe unknowingly, or knowingly, fighting against Him? As Christians we better know that we are in a war. The problem is we likely really aren't cognitively aware of the war until our attention is called to it. The evil one's main weapon is that little three letter word s-i-n. If he can get us to sell out to sin, he can destroy any influence or effectiveness we have in the world. God has weapons too. His most effective weapon is that five-letter, living word of Grace. We have to want to implement the strength of His grace to defeat sin. In other words, we have to push the grace button if we want help. We have grace if we have accepted Christ, but we in order to win the war, in order to apply the strength of God's grace in our lives, we must admit we are weak and need God's help in order to live in God's freedom rather than the bondage of sin. Psalm 139:23-24 NLT is what I want to leave you with. “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends You, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.” Make that your prayer. Fighting For the Pre-Born, Faith, Law
We had the pleasure of interviewing Evan Honer over Zoom video!Singer/songwriter Evan Honer recently released his new album Fighting For through Cloverdale Records. The release is the follow-up to his 2023 debut West on I-10, which was met with sudden acclaim through sheer organic connection with audiences, garnering millions of streams worldwide, over 2.6 million monthly listeners, and leading to sold-out headline tours across the country and into Europe. That whirlwind period is captured on Fighting For. Co-produced by Honer with longtime collaborators Stephen Myers and Jon Notar, it's a coming-of-age record that asks hard questions and offers no easy answers. Instead, it embraces the conflicting swirl of emotions that come with early adulthood, from exhilaration to uncertainty. Evan Honer was still a college student in Southern California when his music — a mix of acoustic folk, indie-Americana, and alternative pop, delivered by a young songwriter who's never been afraid to blur the boundaries between genres — began earning a global audience. It happened fast. One minute, he was uploading performance videos to social media with little response. The next, he was a viral success, earning 50 million streams with his version of the Tyler Childers deep cut "Jersey Giant" and building a following with his original music. On graduation day, Honer released West On I-10, which quickly led to collaborations with Liam St. John, Wyatt Flores, Vincent Mason, and more, as well as sold-out shows across America and Europe. Fighting For captures the zeitgeist of 20something life during the 2020s. It's a soundtrack for young adults navigating the long road from past to present, looking to make some sense of the relationships, regrets, and romances they encounter along the way. Appropriately, Honer recorded the album on the move, finding small windows of time between gigs to capture these songs in small studios, churches, living rooms, and even AirBnbs. After the overwhelming success of West on I-10, he had opportunities to do things differently, including seven-figure offers from virtually every major record label, along with A-list Grammy-winning producers vying to work with a young musician who'd already earned 200 million streams on his own. Instead, he opted to turn them all down, stay independent, start his own label Cloverdale Records, and build a community of like-minded and hard-working artists willing to bet on themselves.Stacked high with acoustic-driven songs and plugged-in performances, Fighting For shows just how wide Evan Honer's musical reach can be. This is music for campfires, festival stages, and everywhere in between, delivered with a rare mix of urgency and poise. It's music rooted in Honer's personal experience, yet still filled with universal stories about punching one's way to the next round. This summer and fall, Honer will hit the road in support of Fighting For with dates that will take him across the US and Europe. He served on Senator McCain's staff for eighteen years. Guest Mark Salter Author of "The Luckiest Man: Life with John McCain" Mark Salter is an American speechwriter from Davenport, Iowa, known for his collaborations with United States Senator John McCain on several nonfiction books as well as on political speeches. Salter also served as McCain's chief of staff for a while, although he had left that position by 2008. About the Book More so than almost anyone outside of McCain's immediate family, Mark Salter had unparalleled access to and served to influence the Senator's thoughts and actions, cowriting seven books with him and acting as a valued confidant. Now, in The Luckiest Man, Salter draws on the storied facets of McCain's early biography as well as the later-in-life political philosophy for which the nation knew and loved him, delivering an intimate and comprehensive account of McCain's life and philosophy. Salter covers all the major events of McCain's life—his peripatetic childhood, his naval service—but introduces, too, aspects of the man that the public rarely saw and hardly knew. Woven throughout this narrative is also the story of Salter and McCain's close relationship, including how they met, and why their friendship stood the test of time in a political world known for its fickle personalities and frail bonds. The capstone to Salter's intimate and decades-spanning time with the Senator, The Luckiest Man is the authoritative last word on the stories McCain was too modest to tell himself and an influential life not soon to be forgotten. This exhibit is called The Vietnam War: The Music. Our mission here at the Music Museum is to support all Vietnam Veterans and those who serve the United States, then and now. We thank you for your service. Early-on, in Vietnam, soldiers turned to music as a lifeline to the home front they’d promised to defend. Rock & roll (R&R) really became rest & relaxation (R&R) for the troops. It was this music that got you through another day, another day closer to going home. Music was a big part of a soldier’s down time that centered within the hooches of Vietnam. The music that was popular during the Vietnam War was, and is still, therapy. There are songs you can remember, and then there are songs you REALLY remember. Many of these songs will have a special meaning for you. A place, a brother, a time gone by. This program is for you, the Vietnam Vets, who will never forget. Our goal with The Vietnam War: The Music is to honor the fallen and the survivors with the music that got them through “just one more day”. Our shows are broadcast around the world. They say thank you & “welcome home” to all Vietnam Vets. There is no opinion offered on the War. It’s all about the music. For your service and your sacrifice, this is The Vietnam War: The Music. The Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Director SP, Agent Haley, Agent Lauren and Agent Michelle discuss the ABC television series Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. finale episodes “The End Is At Hand” and “What We’re Fighting For,” along with the weekly Marvel News and some listener feedback. The Agents say goodbye to Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. after seven years of covering the series and debrief you on the Agent’s first impressions of the finale, how Victoria Hand had an entire episode named after her, a trip down memorable series finales, how the effects in this finale were mostly movie quality, how “crabification” applies to space energy technology, Jemma Simmons’ brain break, Haley getting a 1950’s idiom reference, finally the Lighthouse comes to an end and what was so special about it in the series (it’s not what you think), how duct tape and clothes pins and coffee help the series, how and when to launch Chromicon Zombie Missiles, some of our noted missed series finale cameos plus Bill Coat’s amazing finale cameo, an 0-8-4 on a timer, why Fitz could not have been in the season much for the plot to work, a fond look at the last time the team was together, Director Deke Shaw’s selfless act and “deleted” final epilogue scene, how the production team laid out one of the best “show don’t tell” storylines ever including Team S.H.I.E.L.D. in hazmat suits, the epic callback of Piper and Flint and Davis, the symbolism of the containment pod, how May owned the Calvary one last time, detailed break downs of the final fights, how the ending was Robotech inspired as the team fought for family, all the completed character arcs, Haley’s fond remembrance of Sitwell and Nathaniel Malick’s farm, SP’s nitpitcks of the episode, THE SCIENCE BABY, a comparison of the season 5 finale “The End” to the series finale and which worked better, why Lauren is a sucker for “Found Family” narratives, the dreaded post-series finale syndrome emptiness, and why Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. will be the last of the great genre series on broadcast TV as we come to the end of an era. This year, its fortunes have reversed: few entertainment companies, if any, have been as badly hit by the coronavirus. Largely as a result of the pandemic, Disney has posted its first quarterly loss in decades. Here are the details: Disney lost $4.72 billion in the three months ending June 27, with total revenue falling 42% to $11.8 billion. The company earned a profit of $1.43 billion in the same quarter last year. Revenues from its theatrical, theme park, and live sports businesses were severely dented by the pandemic. Costs relating to its Fox acquisition, including integration expenses and severance pay, were also a factor. The direct-to-consumer and international division was the only one to report an increase in year-over-year revenue. In less than nine months, Disney+ has passed 60 million subscribers — a milestone Netflix took around eight years to reach. Combined with subscribers to Disney’s other streaming services, like Hulu and ESPN+, Disney has over 100 million subscribers. The company revealed that the much-delayed Mulan will launch on Disney+ as a premium rental, costing around $30 in the U.S. and other territories. Disney CEO Bob Chapek called this strategy a “one-off,” but added that Disney+ is now the company’s top priority. Chapek also announced a new streaming service under the Star brand it inherited from Fox; it will include content from ABC, FX, Freeform, Searchlight, and 20th Century Studios. Disney shares have rallied nearly 12% in the last two days, buoyed by the good streaming news, however they’re still down around 12% on the year. Disney’s ill-considered decision to reopen the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando while the pandemic rages throughout the state of Florida has been profitable for the company, but less so than it had expected. “It’s worth noting that while Walt Disney World is operating at a positive net contribution level, the upside we are seeing from reopening is less than we’d originally expected given the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in Florida,” Disney CFO Christine McCarthy said on the earnings call. The company’s last quarterly loss came in early 2001, according to Factset Data. It amounted to $567 million. Etc.etc.etc. E-MAIL Oh8four to stargatepioneer This episode set me up perfectly for what I'm sure is going to be an amazing and terrible time next week. There are moments in here that I'm sure will draw the usual lazy and tired criticisms of "filler," "nothing happening," and "can we just get to the next thing." I would say that the character moments peppered all over were more than enough to make these segments enjoyable and worthwhile as someone who's cared about this team for years. Daisy, Mack, and Souza all got their moments with each other that got smiles out of me; we got to reflect on May and Coulson and where they've gone; we got a small peak at what Fitzsimmons went through before the end of Season 6; all of these interactions are what I want before I have to say goodbye. I love that Malick weren't able to break Simmons or Deke, and it was satisfying to see him start to lose it when his entitlement wasn't satiated. Entitled people are kind of the worst, so how great is it that this threat we have, the one to defeat, is an embodiment of that? We've got a great finale coming for us with Shield literally being wiped off the map. Most likely, Peggy Carter is dead, along with Howard Stark, Hank Pym, people who laid a foundation for the MCU. We can no longer speculate that the new timeline being made this season is going to lead to Infinity War or Endgame or whatever. This show is going to go out on its own terms and I really love that. Peaceful blessings, this is Seven, Travis Nettles, with these few words that I call "Fighting For an Out Date," cause that's exactly what I'm doing. I said, what would you do you were locked inside a cell fighting for an out date? Having thoughts of never going home bring nothing for pain and heartache. Some of the ones you left do not like to give, they would rather take. Things most people do for you, they throw right back in your face. The relationships you have seem to be erased- you are not around, so someone else has taken your place. You lack the support you need. So many people have lost their faith. They do not believe you would make it home. Kids might forget who you are once they become grown. Will you keep it too real with no future? Most people feel you are wrong, but who's to say you wrong or right when you are the one fighting for your life? When you really need help, a lot of people go stiff. Being very dependent is very bad for your health. When you ask people how they're doing, they talk about their wealth. When they asked you how are you doing, they have a [inaudible] inside their breath. When you express how you feel, they'll say you always thinking about yourself, same story all day. Shows you what you really have left. You will see who really love you or not. You will see who really cherish you or not. Money not everything, and time is very priceless. A letter, a card, or a picture is righteous. [inaudible] mentioned to me is vital. The way people treat you will be permanent if they become your rival. So could you imagine, fighting for an out date, how would you feel? Do you know the right words to say? In case of mind and heart, it's not nothing to be playing with. You will never know what's going on inside that person's head. Your support in any way could be the main reason why that person is not dead. So when you feel that your life is really tough, fighting for an out date will probably make you feel better. I'm Seven and that's what I'm going through in the course of fighting for true justice to be able to get a third trial. And you can also check me out at Justice For Seven podcast. I'm on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and Anchor app. And the way that I support myself is, fashion, helping people who's out there maybe get into fashion and peaceful blessings. Thanks again for your time and energy. (Sound of a cell door closing.) These commentaries are recorded by Noelle Hanrahan of Prison Radio.

Last year I spoke about the little girl that my wife and I have been trying to adopt from China for five years to no avail, caught in red tape and creeping bureaucracy. She is just a name to us, a shadow, an empty child's room that has gathered dust. Our little son always asks for his absent sister, year after year. Now, after much pushing through obstacles, wrangling with regulations, negotiating, simple waiting (there are so many families in like position, and we did not want to push ahead of others, so waited our turn like everyone else), procedures and endless forms, this year's earthquake and adventures, adoption and immigration lawyers and legal fees to fix the tangled legal snafu, there is a good chance (too soon to be sure yet) that she will come to us by the end of this year!! :) If all goes forward (we'll see), 51 year old me is gonna be daddy to a 1 year old! Some things in life are WORTH PROTESTING FOR, SHOUTING FOR, FIGHTING FOR ... WITHOUT VIOLENCE OR ANGER, OF COURSE! Be it a wrong to right, a war to stop, an injustice to prevent, a disease to cure ... it is okay to take to the streets (like those monks in Burma did), fight the good fight ... if peacefully. Yet today's passage from the Xin Xin Ming tells us: If you wish to see the truth then hold no opinions for or against anything. To set up what you like against what you dislike is the disease of the mind. When the deep meaning of things is not understood the mind's essential peace is disturbed to no avail. Having no opinions, no for or against ... yet standing up for what's right? Sounds like a great contradiction! These need not be in the least! Opinions with equanimity, pushing forward with no place to get, protest hand-in-hand with total acceptance! Seen with a Buddha's eye ... there is no contradiction at all. Today’s Sit-A-Long video follows at this link. Remember: recording ends soon after the beginning bells; a sitting time of 15 to 35 minutes is recommended. Please visit the forum thread here!
