Built airplane. Flew airplane. Crashed airplane. Met God. all set.Jim Bruton knows life. His past is marked by relentless curiosity and remarkable achievement. He was an African wilderness guide, Emmy Award-winning wildlife film director, aviator, adventurer, inventor of the satellite videophone, NBC News Middle East war correspondent, a husband, and a father. His passion - building and flying WWI-era aircraft - led him where he never imagined he'd go: a horrific crash that left him for dead. For one week, Jim Bruton hovered in the place that is not life and not death, a place he came to know as the In Between. He came back, and this is his report of what he has seen.Bruton takes us along for a by turns hair-raising and ultimately triumphant story of his coming to grips with what has happened to him. As he heals, his experiences in the In Between become more and more pressing. They download into his mind like rushing movie stills. His life of action turns internal. He uses all he knows - from quantum physics and battlefield memories to scenes of childhood and familial love - for a new deeper understanding of what it means to live.Jim Bruton, the man who fell from the sky, is not the same man who flew into it. And if you walk some of his journey with him, neither are you.About the author: Jim Bruton has lived a life many people dream of but few experience. As a little boy, he lived within an active imagination, including a love for wildlife filming, international travel, science fiction, and vintage aviation. In adulthood, he checked every one of those off his list with internationally recognized achievements, an Emmy for a National Geographic wildlife film, traveling to all seven continents, the Titanic, the North Pole, and Mt. Everest, shrinking a satellite TV truck into a backpack, and transmitting live video from places before impossible and building and flying historical reproduction aircraft from World War I and the early 1930s.For many, any one of these adventures resulted in a single lifetime achievement. For Jim, it was just the beginning, climaxing with the crash of his last aircraft and the near-death experience that followed.Jim is an Emmy award winning journalist and in this episode we talk about his about his Near Death Experience. From Jim's website;Generally, people who have had NDEs aren't trying to “sell” anything, other than perhaps a seminar, book or DVD.  We don't try to sell a new religion, because we left all that behind.  However, spirituality plays a pretty strong role in the experiences we share.  One of the strangest things I've noticed is that for those of us who had our NDEs as a result of some horrific accident, while in most cases the accident and its crazy circumstances would be the focus of any compelling story, an NDE negates that.Once an NDE enters the picture, you almost forget about the accident- it becomes the least important part of the story, next to the NDE.  My accident was amazing as accidents go, and I have an NDE friend who is only one of a handful in the world that she knows of who suffered and survived an internal decapitation.  But to NDE'ers, the circumstances that nearly, or do, kill us are just a footnote.  I'm sure that must be surprising, in some way.https://www.inbetweenproductions.com/https://www.amzn.com/dp/B098KQHX57 https://www.pastliveshypnosis.co.uk/https://www.patreon.com/ourparanormalafterlife

Awesome feedback received this week! Jim from the Monster Attack podcast wrote in to say he is listening. There has been much sickness in the house, but that has not stopped us from making plans and doing the things! From Jim we learned that our show is engaging and enjoyable. Shawn and Leah have great chemistry and this is apparent when listening. Jim will keep on listening--there are a lot of episodes to catch up on. We will be listening to his Monster Attack podcast. Everyone in our house has been down with the sickness the last month. We are on the road to recovery, but it is taking longer than expected. Shawn even called in sick to work and that is quite a rarity. There was a recent birthday dinner. Curtis, one of Shawn's brothers, had a birthday in December and this past week, the 3 brothers were able to mesh their schedules and go to Chuck's Roadhouse to celebrate. Bathroom renovations have been on hold. The leaky sink has sunk our motivation to continue. We are however, planning a cruise, a visit to Milwaukee for Easter, and a trip to Traverse City this weekend. Some time away is required after being sick and taking care of Shawn's dad. There are some fun plans for the next few months! Check out our Etsy shops! Leah's store can be found by searching Collect and Cast On. Shawn's store is Rusted Robot Toys. This eminent Harvard psychiatrist and Pulitzer Prize–winning biographer risked his career to investigate the phenomenon of human encounters with aliens and to give credibility to the stupefying tales shared by people who were utterly convinced they had happened.Nothing in Mack's four decades of psychiatry had prepared him for the otherworldly accounts of a cross section of humanity including young children who reported being taken against their wills by alien beings. Over the course of his career his interest in alien abduction grew from curiosity to wonder, ultimately developing into a limitless, unwavering passion.Based on exclusive access to Mack's archives, journals, and psychiatric notes and interviews with his family and closest associates, The Believer reveals the life and work of a man who explored the deepest of scientific conundrums and further leads us to the hidden dimensions and alternate realities that captivated Mack until the end of his life.BioRalph Blumenthal, a Distinguished Lecturer at Baruch College of the City University of New York, was an award-winning reporter for The New York Times from 1964 to 2009, and has written seven books on organized crime and cultural history. RIMAC NEVERA CLAIMS QUICKEST PRODUCTION CAR WITH NEW QUARTER-MILE TIME - The Tesla Model S Plaid has a claimed 9.23-second quarter-mile time. But the real king appears to be the Rimac Nevera, which is getting quarter-mile times in the 8-second range. - The company set its fastest time yet this week at Famoso Raceway. The company brought out Brooks Weiselblat of DragTimes to record and drive the car. As such the company has timing from the drag strip as well as VBox data from onboard the car. The fastest time recorded was 8.582 seconds at 167.51 mph. - Now, as it was a drag strip, the times were set with a VHT-prepped surface, which is sticky and good for launches. But the car was on production tires — Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires to be specific. The company also noted that it has managed to do an 8.62-second quarter-mile on an un-prepped airstrip. - Without any sanctioning body to record these runs, this is only an unofficial record. Registrations for EVs more than doubled, with 214,111 on the books through June, up from 98,351 in the first half of 2020. - Tesla vehicles made up two-thirds of all new EV registrations, with the closest competitor being Chevrolet. - newly launched Mustang Mach-E electric SUV helped it move into the top three, with 5.6% of new registrations. That's an impressive pace, given it's Ford's first mainstream EV. - EVs still only accounted for 2.5% of all new registrations. That's up 1% from this time last year, but a far cry from the Biden administration's goal to make half of all new cars sold EVs by the end of this decade. A move that the company intended on never taking, Tesla sent China-made Model 3 units to Europe in January for the first time. Charging-network operator EV Charging Solutions (EVCS) plans to upgrade Oregon's 44 charging stations along the route with new hardware, and add three more, with funding from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), the company announced Wednesday in a press release. - 11 will be designated "super stations," each with one 150-kw fast charger and two 50-kw fast chargers, plus one 7.7-kw Level 2 AC port, EVCS clarified to Green Car Reports. The remainder of the 36 stations will get new hardware but remain at 50 kw - Upgrades will include replacing CHAdeMO-only DC fast-charging stations with ones that can accommodate both CHAdeMO and the Combined Charging Standard (CCS). A CHAdeMO adapter for Tesla drivers will also be included at each site Original Source : https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1133200_west-coast-electric-highway-10-years-old-new-charging-hardware DUTCH LEAD CHARGE FOR ELECTRIC CAR STATIONS - They are best known for bike-riding, but the climate-vulnerable Dutch are leading the way for electric cars with the largest number of charging stations in Europe.Teslas and other vehicles can be seen plugged in on practically every street corner thanks to a network of some 75,000 stations -- nearly a third of the entire EU total. - Around one in every five of the 400,000 new cars sold annually in the Netherlands is now electric, due partly to tax breaks and other incentives during the last decade. But the Dutch government has also ensured that drivers have the infrastructure to support efforts to kick the addiction to fossil fuels. - The Dutch government wants all new cars to be electric from 2030 in the Netherlands, where road traffic accounts for a fifth of greenhouse gas emissions. - The Dutch began to encourage electric cars "very early", in 2012, far sooner than Paris or Berlin - In addition to the 75,000 public charging stations, around 190,000 Dutch people have their own charging post at home. - Around 30 percent of Europe's electric vehicle charging points are in the Netherlands, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association. - In towns, every electric car user has the right to a charging station within 200 metres of their home; while in the countryside motorists have their own posts, with 75 percent of those generating electricity for them by solar power. The e-mobility specialist Quantron AG supports IKEA in this mission and supplies the IKEA logistics centre near Vienna with 30 environmentally friendly e-vehicles. This changeover will enable around 117,000 deliveries to be made emission-free in the first year alone, reducing CO2 emissions by more than 300 tons. - With a range of at least 170 km, drive power of 100 kW and maximum charging power of 70 kW, the e-transporters are ideally equipped for routes between IKEA locations and customers' delivery addresses. Initially, the vehicles will be used for deliveries to all 23 of Vienna's municipal districts and within a 30 km radius of the logistics centre. Text LEARNERS to 44222 for more details... Full show notes at www.LearningLeader.com Jim Collins books include Good to Great, the #1 bestseller, which examines why some companies make the leap and others don’t; the enduring classic Built to Last, which discovers why some companies remain visionary for generations; How the Mighty Fall, which delves into how once-great companies can self-destruct; and Great by Choice, which uncovers the leadership behaviors for thriving in chaos and uncertainty. Jim has also published two monographs that extend the ideas in his primary books: Good to Great and the Social Sectors and Turning the Flywheel. His most recent publication is BE 2.0 (Beyond Entrepreneurship 2.0), an ambitious upgrade of his very first book; it returns Jim to his original focus on small, entrepreneurial companies and honors his coauthor and mentor Bill Lazier. Notes: What Exactly is Leadership?” “True leadership only exists if people follow when they would otherwise have the freedom to not follow.” Many business leaders think they are leading when in fact they’re simply exercising power, and they might discover to their horror that no one would follow them if they had no power. General Colin Powell said, “In my 35 years of service, I don’t ever recall telling anyone, ‘That’s an order.” “Leadership is the art of getting people to want to do what must be done.” When Steve Jobs returned to Apple, one of the first people he called was Jim Collins. Jim asked Steve,“what did you first build upon to emerge from the darkness? What gave you hope?” Steve was talking with perhaps the greatest product visionary of our time.. so he expected him to talk about operating systems or the Macintosh computer or other product ideas.  But he didn’t. What did he talk about? People. "It was all about the WHO." History is the “study of surprises.” There will be no “new normal,” there will only be a continuous series of “not normal” episodes, defying predictions and unforeseen by most of us until they happen. This is why we double down on the “first who” principle. Track the number 1 metric: some say sales or profitability or cash flow or something about products. But there’s one metric that towers above them all that’s rarely spoken about in meetings. And that is: The percentage of key seats on the bus filled with the right people  for those seats. How to know when to shift from “develop” to “replace?” Jim has distilled years of reflection down to 7 questions that he offers to stimulate your thinking when you face the “develop or replace” conundrum.  Are you beginning to lose other people by keeping this person in the seat? Do you have a values problem, a will problem, or a skills problem? What’s the person's relationship to the window and the mirror? Does the person see the work as a job or a responsibility? Has your confidence in the person gone up or down in the last year? Do you have a bus problem or a seat problem? How would you feel if the person quit? Jim spent time at West Point as the Chair for the Study of Leadership… One of they key things he learned from that time was the importance of focusing on your unit and taking care of your people, not your career… “The key to a leader’s impact is sincerity. Before he can inspire with emotion he must be swayed by it himself. Before he can move their tears his own must flow. To convince them he must himself believe.” - Winston Churchill Kroger made the leap because they became fanatical about getting the right people in the right seats A key position at your company does the following: Has hiring responsibility A failure by them could expose the company to disaster Their performance has an outsized impact on the business as a whole The Personal Hedgehog Concept You love to do the work You're doing something you're wired for The market will pay you for it Great success in life is when you have people in key seats that fit their hedgehog When analyzing if a person should remain on the team, ask, "What is the person's relationship with the window or the mirror?" We want people who have a tremendous capacity to grow. Be a growth machine. An example of a world-class leader? Wendy Kopp, CEO and Co-Founder of Teach For All, a global network of independent nonprofit organizations working to expand educational opportunity in their own countries and the Founder of Teach For America. "Wendy had no power and not much charisma, and yet she got hundreds of thousands of people to sign up and do work that is not fun." That's leadership. "Leadership is the art of getting people to want to do what must be done." The #1 responsibility of a leader is to catalyze a clear and shared vision for the company and secure commitment to and vigorous pursuit of that vision. From Jim, "I'm more of a teacher than a leader. What's my leadership artistry? Trust." Ann Mulcahy saved Xerox. She kept getting promoted... When asked how she earned those promotions, Anne said, "I tried to make my mini-bus a sparkling pocket of greatness." They came to her and said, "We want you to drive the whole bus."

Jim (https://www.oncourseinternational.com/jim-warner/) and Paul Warner (https://www.oncourseinternational.com/paul-warner/) work together in multi-generational family dynamics helping all parties establish and sustain authentic, synergistic, relationships. Paul leads young adult retreats, focusing on authentic relationships, navigating change, and leadership development. He also coaches young adults seeking clarity on their life purpose, mission, and vision, and guides them to take full responsibility for their lives. Jim's work has led him to write three books and an audio series based on high achievers' yearnings for identity, meaning, and connection. He has been married 44 years and enjoys enriching relationships with his wife, their three adult children, and a granddaughter. Jim and Paul work extensively with Young Presidents' Organization and Family Business Network Families Worldwide. The last dozen years they have also guided several S.E. Asian families in their quest to establish enduring principles across multiple generations. Standout Quotes: * "One of the major issues of families of wealth is they make the mistake of insulating the kids from the realities of living outside of the wealth bubble" - [Jim Warner] * "Without being able to experience pain, you cheat people out of the ability to experience joy; I'd like to think of pain and joy as opposite sides of the same coin and if you mute one, you're gonna mute the other" - [Jim Warner] * "If we want our young adult children to step into their sense of destiny, are we modeling that ourselves?" - [Jim Warner] * "If you've worked with one family, you've worked with one family" - [Jim and Paul Warner] * "Introduce a common language within the family so that we can play in these intentional spaces, to stretch towards each other." [Paul Warner] * "Harmony is impossible without the willingness to go into painful discussions" - [Jim Warner] * "If you choose not to discuss the Elephant in the room, you forfeit the right to complain" - [Jim Warner] * "When all parties are willing to play ball, when all parties are willing to take responsibility, we'll often say "right now this family has 600% responsibility" each of you takes 100% responsibility for what is within your control." [Paul Warner] * "Love is unconditional, relationships are not" - [Jim Warner] Key Takeaways: * Jim explains the need to distinguish supporting and protecting, from enabling, because oftentimes families blur those lines. * Mike and Jim agree that being insulated from the rest of the world does not necessarily protect wealthy children but may do more harm than good. * Governance structures are secondary to parental modeling of core values. * Rather than jumping right into getting the kid fit for succession, the key thing a parent should ask is "How do I help my young adult find their own passion in life?" * Jim highlights 3 key steps to balancing being a nurturing parent while not enabling children: Active listening, Allowing children to face disappointment, and Guiding them to take responsibility for their lives. * Many professionals who go into a family environment have a relatively small toolbox; if all you've got is a hammer, the whole world looks like a nail. * Harmony is about truth-telling, it's not about being nice to one another * Jim stresses that the goal of discussing the painful topics (the elephant in the room) is the potential of having an authentic family relationship as opposed to a transactional family relationship * If a sense of self-awareness is instilled into children, then when they're adults you can have mature transformational discussions as a family, but without it, the children may never grow up. * The components of the "Trust" that sets elders apart: Credibility, Reliability, Honesty, Vulnerability and Adaptability. * There are two ways life happens; life can happen to me where I'm the victim, or life can happen by me where I'm a creator and I create my own options * Life is a journey and the important things take time; part of that journey will be your individual discovery and deeper understanding and connection with yourself. * Don't change, I love you just the way you are Episode Timeline: * [00:50] Mike briefly introduces both Jim and Paul Warner, and they share some of their background stories * [04:45] Paul describes the impact of his father in his eventual choice of profession * [07:22] What are some of the challenges that you've seen for parents raising motivated and happy children amidst wealth? * [13:47] What role do you think formal governance structures play in shaping strong family values and bonds? * [17:05] Paul's definition of the rising generation, describing the common dynamic between them and the older generation. * [20:25] How do you help people identify their own path and whether or not they're fit for succession? * [22:46] How Paul got into the family business * [28:02] Jim describes how a parent can be welcoming and nurturing without enabling the children * [29:55] The approach to working with different families * [33:45] 13 guidelines for authentic interactions in any environment * [39:10] Discussing the "Elephant in the room" * [51:37] What sets an elder apart with respect to the ability to influence the success of a family? * [01:00:06] From Paul to his kids * [01:01:07]From Jim to his kids For more episodes go to BusinessOfFamily.net (https://www.businessoffamily.net/) Sign up for The Business of Family Newsletter at https://www.businessoffamily.net/newsletter (https://www.businessoffamily.net/newsletter) Follow Mike on Twitter @MikeBoyd (https://twitter.com/MikeBoyd) If you feel it's appropriate, I'd so appreciate you taking 30 seconds to Leave a Review on iTunes (http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1525326745), I receive a notification of each review. In the second episode of this podcast series, I break down how such an innane and ordinary premise resulted in a comedy that has audience laughing for a long time. It is the story of the employees of a regional company in Pennsylvania, called Dunder Mifflin, which sells paper. At present, we do not yet see everything in subjection to him. 9 But we see him who for a little while was made lower than the angels, namely Jesus, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone. 10 For it was fitting that he, for whom and by whom all things exist, in bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering. 11 For he who sanctifies and those who are sanctified all have one source. That is why he is not ashamed to call them brothers, 12 saying, “I will tell of your name to my brothers; in the midst of the congregation I will sing your praise.” 13 And again, “I will put my trust in him.” And again, “Behold, I and the children God has given me.” ------------------ 5 Core Values of SWAT 1. Jim Bruton is my guest this week on The Past Lives Podcast. Jim is an Emmy award winning journalist and in this episode we talk about his about his Near Death Experience. From Jim's website; Generally, people who have had NDEs aren't trying to “sell” anything, other than perhaps a seminar, book or DVD. We don't try to sell a new religion, because we left all that behind. However, spirituality plays a pretty strong role in the experiences we share. One of the strangest things I've noticed is that for those of us who had our NDEs as a result of some horrific accident, while in most cases the accident and its crazy circumstances would be the focus of any compelling story, an NDE negates that. Once an NDE enters the picture, you almost forget about the accident- it becomes the least important part of the story, next to the NDE. My accident was amazing as accidents go, and I have an NDE friend who is only one of a handful in the world that she knows of who suffered and survived an internal decapitation. But to NDE'ers, the circumstances that nearly, or do, kill us are just a footnote. I'm sure that must be surprising, in some way. www.inbetweenproductions.com
