It's been a couple of weeks since the Chinese firm DeepSeek released its new R1 large-language model and sheared an enormous amount of value off of American AI companies. Now that the dust has settled, we don our AI-skeptic hats again and try to unpack what makes this model different, including how it was made so much more efficiently, what opening it up for free means for paid competitors, and whether we might not have to burn down quite so many forests going forward. Courtney & André recap Naomi Girma's ballon d'breakout goalscoring game in which she scored a ballon d'brace. We discuss the finishes, the purest celebrations ever, and assess the performances several new, new'ish or returning USWNT players. We chat about Jaedyn Shaw's best position to Hal Hershfelt's performance as a lone six, to Emma Sears going demon mode and Alyssa Malonson looking quite cozy and composed. Then we ask what we learned this international break, and whether any of that will (or should) carry over into the next international window when the team heads to Europe. After, we shift back into club soccer mode and talk about the final regular season games in the NWSL. We review the matchups, what's on the line, who can snatch playoff positions and/or seeding and how, and give our predictions on how it will all unfold. (Hint: Don't listen Spirit fans.) Penn Stated: Talking Penn State Football with Donnie Collins

For sure, there was plenty to talk about after last Saturday's Blue-White Game at Beaver Stadium.Omari Evans and Kaden Saunders may have cooled some of the doubt about the readiness of Penn State's second batch of receivers. For backup defensive ends, Dani Dennis-Sutton and Zuriah Fisher sure did look like gamebreakers. For true freshmen who would normally still be in high school, Tony Rojas and Ta'Mere Robinson sure did look like potential stars at linebacker. KJ Winston might be a stud at safety. The defense potentially looks dominant, even if the kicking specialists left a bit to be desired. But with special guest Cory Giger of DK Pittsburgh Sports on as his special guest this week, of course Penn Stated host Donnie Collins is going to put the focus back on the quarterback position and the performance of sophomore Drew Allar in what, in all reality, was his first career game as the Nittany Lions' starting quarterback.Donnie and Cory went in-depth on the receiver battle and made themselves GMs while discussing their view on what positions Penn State coaches should look to bolster through the transfer portal this summer.Still, most of the talk centered on Allar, who threw for more than 200 yards in the game, with just one touchdown, and had to battle a hard-charging defense throughout the overcast afternoon. Is he ready to help Penn State contend for a Big Ten East title sooner rather than later? And, how important is he for a program that wants to get itself on an accelerated national title pace?Plus, Donnie and Cory give their opinions on realistic timelines for the Nittany Lions to win a national championship. We read a listener's question regarding how they can turn their graphic design skills into a service where they can work for themselves rather than someone else. In the past, we've mentioned how it's really hard to turn graphic design services into something that people want to buy every month multiple times. In other words, it's a service you have to keep selling over and over again which makes it really hard to scale and requires you to constantly be looking for new opportunities. The question comes from someone who doesn't want to do that but still wants to utilize their passion and experience in graphic design. Join us in this episode where we give our individual inputs on how we would use this skill as a productized service for an agency or freelance concept that keeps clients paying every month. Not only that, but a service that clients find value in and you don't have to keep selling your value to existing clients. In this episode we cover the basics of setting up an Etsy shop, and how to make sure you don't fall victim to undercharging (Hint: Don't be looking at other shops!!). Happy New Year! In this episode Mandy and Stephanie bring that ‘fresh start' energy to the podcast with a conversation about reflection, setting goals, and naming intentions for the year. You will also hear why having a mentor can help you get ahead, the tools for finding and asking someone to be a mentor, and how to manage that relationship for mutual benefit. The guest on the show, Tracy J. Edmonds is the Owner and CEO of TJE Coaching & Consulting, where she serves as an executive coach and DEI strategist. A former corporate executive who served as Chief Diversity Officer at Anthem, Tracy brings a unique blend of thought leadership, strategic planning, and execution mindset to her work. She specializes in coaching women – particularly minority women – to bring out their best in a corporate environment. As a strategist and partner to her clients, Tracy simplifies the DEI journey with a focus on building capacity to drive sustainable change. Tracy is also an author and speaker on the topics of diversity, inclusion, authenticity, and leadership. Her book, Wild Hair, A Courageous Woman's Guide to a Bold and Authentic Career, released March 2021, and has achieved Amazon international bestseller status. “Look for a truth-teller. Because you can get a mentor to educate you on finance and marketing. But when you are talking about career change and what it takes to be successful as a woman in corporate America and where you want to go with your career, we need to talk truthfully about that. We need to know not just that you can do it, but that it will be difficult.” From this episode's conversation, you will hear: ● Why reflection, setting goals, and naming intentions in the new year can drive your success throughout the whole year. ● The benefits of having a mentor. ● Why authentic leadership has a major ripple effect and may just be the only way to lead. ● The value of a truth-teller in your professional life, especially for women. You will also hear an interview with Vivian Blade. Recognized as one of Engagedly's Top 100 Global HR Influencers of 2021, Vivian is a sought-after leadership expert and thought leader. Vivian is the author of four books, most recently the Amazon #1 best-seller Resilience Ready: The Leader's Guide to Thriving Through Unrelenting Crises, and Influence in Talent Development. “We have to lead and engage differently. Gone are the days of dictating and telling people what to do. The old style of management. As we look at the research around engagement and what employees are looking for today, it is: ‘I have a manager who cares about me. I have team members who care about me. With 1.1 million followers on TikTok, it's an unlikely story that just 10 years ago Rachel Pedersen, our guest on this episode of She Turned Entrepreneur, was a single mother on food stamps without a plan. But by taking one modest side hustle at $15 dollars an hour she started down a career path that just a few years later earned her the label “Queen of Social Media.” It's an inspiring story with a message you won't want to miss. (Hint: Don't hold back!) Rachel today mentors millions of followers and online clients, offering hard-won insights and strategies for reaching target audiences. Where some might be stingy with sharing trade secrets, she believes in sharing. Why? Because that abundance always comes back around! She loves working with women who want to grow their businesses to six figures and beyond (which Rachel has done many times over) and reminds us: “We're all just figuring stuff out as we go.” You'll also appreciate Rachel's invaluable advice about how to shut out the online trolls who only serve to bring us down with a few key steps to eliminate their negativity and noise. It's not as hard as you might think and will go a long way towards reinforcing your self-confidence – as well as sanity! Enjoy hearing about this Minnesota mother of three's journey and the inspiration she has found in authors like Dan Sullivan, whose work can be found here. Most exciting of all? Rachel has a brand new book that covers all the bases with great tricks and tips for driving your own niche online presence. Click here to learn more about and purchase "Unfiltered: Proven Strategies to Start and Grow Your Business by Not Following the Rules." Click here to listen to, rate and review this or previous She Turned Entrepreneur episodes. Here are key takeaways from the conversation:· Side hustles are no joke. Some turn into multi-million dollar ventures! Why not yours?· If you've got an idea, dip a toe in while working your day job.· Are your competitors your foes? They don't have to be. An abundant mindset serves all.· Business ownership has inevitable ups and downs. So really celebrate those ups!· Afraid to give your secret sauce away? Sharing your resources will most likely only attract more interest and engagement from prospective clients.· Feeling stressed? Worn down or vulnerable in any way? Skip the comments entirely. · When it comes to our physical appearances, online mean girls (and guys) are inevitable, but that doesn't mean we have to pay attention. Stick with what fits and feels best to you! Here's a quick look into the episode:· Introducing Rachel! Her story starts with unexpectedly becoming a single mom a decade ago – not according to plan. Food stamps, welfare and training as a hair stylist followed until one day … She happened into a $15 per hour digital media side hustle.· Seven years ago Rachel went all-in on her digital marketing business, which today has annual revenue ranging into seven figures, “which is wild!”· Three years ago Rachel's team turned its focus towards building its own internal digital presence and brand – which has manifested today with 1.9 million global followers.· How the “Queen of Media” is helping other female entrepreneurs launch and boost their brands by leveraging social channels:o An online course called Social Media United (formerly Social Media University) that caters largely to social media managers (the competition!).o One-to-one mentoring services.· Don't hold back! Rachel's research shows that the entrepreneurs who grow fastest also happen to be those who are most generous in sharing their resources and insights.· Four reasons to share freely your intellectual capital and experience:o #1: It showcases your depth of knowledge and expertise.o #2: It serves people – which is pure good will.o #3: It creates word of mouth.o #4: Today's freebie seekers are tomorrow's prospective coaching clients.· Eliminate the Negative! Rachel's tips for minimizing online noise and trolling:o Acknowledge that you're human. Things can penetrate and sting.o Remember: You don't need to read every comment. Limit your exposure.o Remember: Only people who live life fairly negatively are taking time out to spread toxic thoughts.o Remember: When you're overwhelmed or not feeling great for whatever reason, just skip the comments. You're already sensitive and prone to feeling down.· Rachel's advice for boosting self-confidence? She believes it's something built over time. There's no one self-help book, exercise or meditation. It comes from doing each task. · About "Unfiltered: Proven Strategies to Start and Grow Your Business by Not Following the Rules," Rachel's account of learning lessons the hard way about things like boundaries, scope creep and other hard-to-anticipate business challenges. You don't have to be math-minded to effectively homeschool your child. This common misconception has intimidated parents, diminishing their confidence to pursue math. In this episode special guest Ken Hively, homeschool dad to 6 children and creator of My Math Assistant, shares practical applications for math at home. ★★★ LISTENER COUPON CODE Request your coupon code to use on any purchase at bookshark.com. QUOTABLES Ken: "...if you're going to learn anything, whether it's a skill or a subject, the way you learn that is through repetition over time. And so the way that Saxon Math was really set up was you're going to review these concepts, not just for a little bit of time to pass a test, you're going to review them throughout the entire book." Ken: "I definitely recommend Saxon math. When it comes to switching curriculums, having homeschooled for like 12 years now, I think that sometimes we as parents, we are a little bit too quick to maybe blame the curriculum. If you're thinking, 'Maybe my math curriculum is not working well,' I would stop and ask some questions about why is it not working well. It could be that you're just not using it the way it was intended to be used. It could be that you don't understand it well enough. It could be character issues with your child." Ken: "We don't do all of the problems necessarily. And especially if a kid has one of those brains that picks up math really well, it's possible they really don't need that much review. But if your child has any struggles with math at all, that review is there for a reason." Ken: "Don't be afraid to slow down a little bit. You don't have to keep up with that family that's got the eight year old doing pre-calculus. We all know that family and that's great for them. You don't have to keep up with somebody else's pace. Go with the pace that your child needs to go at to really master what they're trying to learn." TIMESTAMPS 02:24 Ken tells his background as a homeschool dad. 03:21 How different ages need different approaches with math. 04:41 Helping kids begin to be independent math learners at around grade 4. 05:02 Ken explains why he loves Saxon Math and tells a bit about its approach. 06:48 About the tests in Saxon Math and how Saxon uses repetition to teach and help kids retain. 07:41 How to troubleshoot when you feel your math curriculum is not working well. 08:46 How the time of day can affect your math success. HINT: Don't put math at the end of the day. 09:36 Isn't the repetition in Saxon boring? How can you make it more interesting? The importance of repetition and practice. 12:02 How to manage daily math lessons. Ken suggests doing math year-round instead of taking a summer break. This way, you can slow down the pace. 17:29 Why memorizing math facts is a counterintuitive solution for math anxiety. 18:16 Ken tells the story of his son who isn't naturally a math whiz. And when the child would forget his math skills, Ken assumed he was being disobedient. But actually Ken realized the problem was that he wasn't that great of a math teacher, so he adjusted his methods and used games to teach. It worked! 23:03 The fear of falling behind with math. 25:22 The ongoing struggle of grading math and how My Math Assistant helps.

In this episode, Tracey shares some mistakes to avoid and some must-follow tips to create courses that your audience will crave! Episode Summary: What lights up Tracey the most in her business is seeing her clients transform and walk away feeling confident, knowing that they're putting out a great course which will teach what they intend to teach. Tracey talks about the biggest mistakes made when delivering courses and how to avoid them. Hint: Don't read your slides! Are you struggling with what to include and what not to include in your course? Discover how you can create a balance between overdoing it and the fear of missing out (FOMO)! Tracey explains how your course can survive your ever changing industry by providing classic customer service and giving quick "wins" to your audience. Curious which framework works best for creating and delivering a course? Tracey shares some tips on how your audience can commit lessons into their memory and how you can keep them engaged. "You need to have an outcome for your course. The idea is to work backwards from your end goal, and everything that you include in your course should contribute in some way to that end goal."  - Tracey Lewis Stoeckel #scaletoseven About The Guest: Tracey Lewis Stoeckel is an online course consultant and coach. She is a single Mom to a son and a daughter plus a couple of rescue dogs and a menagerie of other critters. She has a love for sarcasm, marketing, cheese, and her hometown baseball team. After years as a serial entrepreneur, and while working as a college instructor, Tracey earned her master's degree in education. It was around that time that her loves for business and education merged as she started creating online courses for higher education and later for a hospital-based ambulance service. Tracey launched her first service-based business with Tracey Teaches when her need to be present as a parent conflicted with the corporate culture she worked in. When the best boss she ever had announced her retirement, Tracey made the scary move to pursue course-building for small businesses full-time instead of crying in her office on a near-daily basis. A decision she questions only occasionally. Tracey shares her education and business knowledge on her Tracey Teaches Facebook page as well as on her website at www.traceyteaches.biz. In her “free time” Tracey is working on a series of online courses to help single moms get started in a business of their own, and she plans to also launch a new podcast in late 2019.
