Interview by Kris PetersAustralian music icon Diesel kick-started his Bootleg Melancholy Album Tour in December with explosive shows in Avoca Beach and Kiama, where fans got to experience the special musical language he has developed with his band of stalwarts, Richie Vez on bass and Lee Moloney on drums. Presented by New World Artists, Diesel, alongside Vez and Moloney, will resume the Bootleg Melancholy Album Tour this March in Warragul, followed by Melbourne, Launceston, Hobart, Perth, Batemans Bay, Newcastle, Sydney, Wyong, Adelaide with proceedings drawing to a close on Saturday, May 3 in Elizabeth. The two set performance showcases Diesel's impressive career spanning over three decades, with boundless energy and vitality infused into every song, old and new, the audience will be treated to an unforgettable experience shared with music lovers nationwide. “With so much material to draw from, I'm excited to blend new songs with classics,” Diesel shares. “We make quite a bit of sound for a three-piece, and each show will reflect that energy!” Fans can expect a dynamic set list featuring perennial favourites like Tip Of My Tongue, Soul Revival, All Come Together, Man Alive, Never Miss Your Water and Cry In Shame, alongside “new family member” tracks from Bootleg Melancholy.Diesel is also excited to announce an exclusive guitar giveaway with long-standing partner, Fender. Every ticket purchased for the 2025 Bootleg Melancholy Album Tour —including those who have already purchased tickets—will automatically go into the draw to WIN a signed Squire Sonic Stratocaster Electric Guitar, there's one guitar to be won at every show. At the conclusion of the tour, Diesel will personally draw a major prize winner, who will receive a one-on-one Zoom guitar lesson with the Australian legend—a truly unique and exciting opportunity for fans and aspiring musicians alike. One of Australia's greatest success stories, Diesel, has spent three decades weaving his one-of-a-kind musical magic into his rock and blues-fuelled sounds, both as part of the band Johnny Diesel & The Injectors and, more recently, as a solo artist. With multiple #1 ARIA charting albums under his belt, six ARIA award wins and millions of streams alongside a legion of fans, Diesel's creative skillset also expands beyond his own projects, with the talented artist also renowned for his work as a producer and multi-instrumentalist.HEAVY caught up with Diesel on the eve of the first show to find out more. Given the amount of touring Diesel has done throughout his career, we ask if he still gets the same enjoyment out of life on the road."There are some things that I've become more aware of that I don't like," he measured "The good thing about that is you become more aware. You can let it bother you or become more aware of it and… accept, maybe, or take steps to try and avoid. That's the good thing about experience, I suppose. When you first start you just go 'why does that happen?' or 'what do you mean?' Now, I wouldn't say that there's very few variables or surprising things. I think the most challenging thing (laughs)… let's get down to the basics. Watching the carousel go around and your gear doesn't come out. That's always a good start to the day (laughs). Which has happened. Then you think, okay, call this person. Call that person. Call music stores. You start begging and borrowing and then you have to calculate it's gonna come on that flight, but will it make it to the gig in time for the crew? This is all things that have happened, and the crowd, they're not to know. it's not their problem. That's always the biggest challenges. You always allow enough time, of course, but then it becomes like a sliding scale. How much time can you allow because you've got commitments before that and it's also the massive expense of going the day before and things like that. So you've got everyone on hold and you have accommodation and cars for an extra day. These are all big factors for a touring party."In the full interview, Diesel discusses the Bootleg Melancholy Album Tour in more detail, what to expect, the performance time over two sets, balancing each setlist, the other members of his touring band, how to win a signed Squire Sonic Stratocaster Electric Guitar at each show, future music and more including a few music and life lessons learnt along the way.Tickets and more information www.diesel.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

The runaway success of weight loss drugs took the markets by storm last year, spurring huge stock gains for drugmakers like Novo Nordisk, which makes Wegovy and Ozempic. Most patients take them at home in weekly injections, using plastic, pen-like devices known as autoinjectors, filled with the liquid medication and fitted with a tiny needle as wide as two human hairs. As demand for the drugs soars, so does the need for those devices. That growth has now minted a new billionaire: Roger Samuelsson, the 60-year-old Swedish cofounder of Switzerland-based SHL Medical, one of the world's largest manufacturers of autoinjectors. Forbes estimates he's worth $3 billion, largely thanks to his 69% stake in the company he cofounded in 1989. The remaining 31% is held by Swedish private equity firm EQT—which has minted seven billionaires over the years—and Athos, the family office of the billionaire Struengmann brothers. Press-shy Samuelsson, who declined multiple requests for an interview, also enjoys fast cars (he raced in the 2016 Ferrari Challenge series) and owns the 414-foot megayacht Octopus, which he bought in 2021; the yacht was built for its first owner, Microsoft cofounder Paul Allen (d. 2018).See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

What do you do when you look in the mirror and gravity has stricken your once very youthful high and tight face? Not gonna lie - it's a beeeyach. It can really mess with you. And it's no secret that our society for centuries and centuries has put premium value on youth as a moral imperative to beauty. And wherever you may stand on plastic surgery, fillers, injections - it can also make a world of positive difference when done right and for the right reasons. How far can you go with preventative maintenance? The hosts discuss this, plus oil-soaked plugs, a strange fuel smell, morning sickness, and more. Email podcasts@aopa.org for a chance to get on the show. Full notes below: Lamberto has a 152 with oil soaked plugs, and is having to clean them every 25 hours. He wants to fix the problem, not simply deal with it. His mechanic suggests a harsh chemical. He's tried new plugs without success, the hosts agree his BY plugs are the best for oil-fouling anyway. A solvent won't help, Mike says. He suggests a ring wash, which involves filling the cylinder with a mild solvent, then pulling the prop through the combustion cycle. That forces the fluid through and cleans little by little. If you try to pull the prop through it's probably too late and the cylinder needs to be removed and the rings probably replaced. Colleen likens it to flossing. Darin is curious about how far he can push preventative maintenance. His thinking is that if you can clean and gap spark plugs then you should be able to do the same to fuel injectors, and so on. Mike says it's not entirely clear. The FAA has issued a letter of interpretation basically saying that the list in Part 43 is a list of examples, not an exclusive list. Cristopher flies a 172XP in a club in Germany and wants to fly beyond TBO, and also solve an oil issue. He thinks it's coming out of the induction system drain. The only way that can happen is via the intake valve. They recommend borescoping the cylinder to confirm the leak. Callum has a Bonanza and smells fuel in the cockpit when transitioning to lean of peak. Paul suggests checking the throttle body area behind the panel. The mechanical changes when you lean can cause it. Mike knows of another airplane where this has happened, and they isolated it to a leak in the fuel selector. When you lean a bunch of fuel goes back through the return lines, he said, and any leak could show at this point. Jason has a 182 with an O-470 with a cylinder that is acting up on start when it's cold. His engine monitor shows very low EGT when starting, and takes as much as a minute to 90 seconds to come to temperature. The CHTs are also much lower. The hosts agree that he definitely has the symptoms of morning sickness, and it's time to ream it.

This week, Tox Josh joins Rooted Recovery Stories with Patrick Custer to discuss Josh's rise in the aesthetics industry, struggle with a near-death experience, the inner and outer battle with body dysmorphia and the tremendously difficult task of trying to overcome shame. Joshua Davis, BSN, RN, is the founder and creative master-mind behind ToxJosh Studios. Josh's vision for ToxJosh studios started when he saw the need for a creative outlet for aesthetic providers who are passionate about holistic transformations. The TJS team is dedicated to helping patients discover the best version of themselves - inside and out. In the aesthetics or beauty industry, it is easy to get derailed by unrealistic expectations created by the images we are constantly bombarded with on television, social media, etc. I wanted to create a place where people could come and feel safe to discover the best version of themselves. I strongly believe there has to be an inner transformation that comes with any aesthetic work - at the end of the day, I want to help each of my patients be able to look in the mirror and truly LOVE who they see looking back. Joshua Davis, BSN, RN, received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Belmont University, and Bachelor of Musical Arts from Vanderbilt University. Joshua started his nursing career in Trauma ICU & Multi-Specialty Critical Care and transitioned into Aesthetics & Management in 2012. With his meticulous eye to detail and naturalism in aesthetics, Josh's work soon began to be recognized on social media outlets, being voted in the Top 100 Injectors in the United States in 2018 through 2022, appointed to the Merz Aesthetics Advisory Board in 2019, and a Independent Consultant for Prollenium, and a KOL for Cartessa. Better known as Tox Josh, he has quickly become a social media icon in the field of aesthetics, performing Instagram takeovers for major industry companies, has motivated audiences for aesthetic professional organizations around the world, and has helped create Social Media Network Groups with some of the top social media influencers in the industry. On this episode of Curated Beauty, Jessica opens up about her recent trip to Texas, including who she met, what she learned, and the beverage she discovered and can't wait to share with friends. She was invited on this trip by Allergan Medical Institute to train on the newest, FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler called Volux XC. This is intended to be used on the jawline to provide a contoured and defined look. Using a firm product with high G prime that sticks together has some seriously magical properties. Injectors need to get training to see how it integrates and how it looks for themselves. During her visit, she had two hands-on training sessions back-to-back. There was a huge focus on education, science, and data. For the third program of the day, they had a roundtable discussion at a steakhouse. They talked about business, educating patients, and relationship building. A short time later, at another place, Jessica learned about Ranch Water. Haven't heard of it? It's a cocktail including topo chico, a blanco tequila, fresh lime juice, and tajin on the rim of the glass. This cocktail was truly invented by ranchers who wanted a spirited drink to enjoy after they ended their hard work days. Eventually it caught on, and you can find it at plenty of establishments, each offering their own personal twist. The whole visiting experience was incredibly warm and welcoming. Even though she was far away from home, she felt comfortable and can't wait to go back. It also reinforced her appreciation for education in the industry. Making important information easier to access is what it's all about, and a big reason why this podcast exists.

In today's bonus episode, I am re-sharing a show I recorded and released in February 2022. This episode looks at success, its subjectivity, and the common traits those who achieve success share. 15 years ago, I was fresh to the industry and saw leaders speaking on stage and admired them. How have they achieved their success? What makes others so attracted to them and their ideas? I would study their actions and words, and came to realize that it isn't about what people do, it's how they make decisions and think that separates the top 2% from the rest. So many true leaders had this innate grit and determination that allowed them to achieve above and beyond. There's no set success formula, but questioning the industry and learning from your surroundings plays a key role. Over the years, I have pinpointed several things that separate the thought leaders from the pack. Firstly, they surround themselves with a small, close-knit group of trusted advisors. Making decisions in an echo chamber is ill-advised, but you need to be selective with who you trust. Secondly, they have a proprietary method that is unique and stands out in the industry. Third of all, they don't just learn, they teach. Teaching others only strengthens your own understanding and confidence. Fourth, these leaders think in 5-year milestones. Keeping the future in mind and planning a course of action is key to honing your focus. Finally, they invest heavily in personal development. Whether it's time or money, you need to invest in yourself to succeed.
