Jen Done didn't grow up sporty. She swam a bit as a youngster, tagging along to galas beside a sister who was the 'sporty one of the family'  and other than a handful of pre-baby marathons, a life in sport was never really part of her master plan.Seven years ago, after the birth of her daughter, she found herself in a very different kind of race, a race against postnatal depression so severe she could not get out the front door, convinced her husband and daughter would be better off without her. Dismissed as "baby blues" by three separate doctors before a female GP finally gave her the diagnosis and help she needed. Somewhere in the middle of it all, her husband suggested she try running again; she managed 30 seconds out the door and back. It was enough to change everything. That 30 seconds became a habit, and the habit snowballed; an IRONMAN 70.3 in Weymouth, her first full IRONMAN in Hamburg, the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona in 2023 racing with the IRONMAN Foundation. She launched her own podcast, 'The Toughest Finish Line', to share other people's stories of using sport to fight through trauma and mental health struggles and she is also a triathlon coach. A little over three weeks ago, Jen took on her biggest challenge yet: two full IRONMAN races, on consecutive days, in two different countries. IRONMAN Kalmar in Sweden on Saturday and IRONMAN Copenhagen in Denmark 24 hours later. In this episode Jen recalls and shares insight into her Viking IRONMAN adventure, the highs and the lows, the chaos to the calmness, from lost luggage, to the hectic hours before the race weekend even started and the nausea that almost derailed her ambitious racing plans which saw her become an eight time IRONMAN. Jen talks openly about her postnatal depression and the transformational journey she has been on since that 30 second run seven years ago. She reflects on what she's learned about her own capacity to cope, how strong she is and how far removed this version of herself is from the woman who once couldn't leave the house. This is a lovely episode centred on courage, resilience, self-belief and the importance of a loving support crew to help you take one small step at a time, even when that small step seems impossible.

Ruth Astle has been diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease, an autoimmune condition that attacks the thyroid, after years of searching for answers through countless tests and specialist appointments. It's a significant moment for an athlete who has spent too long being told everything looked normal. Jelle Geens has shelved his Kona ambitions to chase an unprecedented third consecutive 70.3 World Championship title in Nice, something no man has ever done. We discuss what that decision means and whether he can do it. Ironman Leeds had its swim cancelled due to a blue-green algae bloom in Waterloo Lake, with athletes racing a duathlon instead. It's the latest in a growing pattern of swim cancellations driven by extreme heat. Cassandre Beaugrand continues to rewrite what a triathlete can be. We look at her new approach since relocating to Girona, how competitive athletics is feeding back into her triathlon, and what it means for her dominance heading into the rest of the season. At Ironman 70.3 Northern California, the Long versus Sanders rivalry took another twist as both were beaten by Jason West, with Grace Alexander dominant in the women's race. Laura Philipp sends an ominous Kona warning with a course record at Ironman Kalmar, while Jonas Schomburg takes a dominant men's win in his first ever Ironman victory, completing the Kona qualification picture. Julie Derron returns to winning ways at T100 Vancouver, chasing down Kate Waugh to take the victory, with Georgia Taylor-Brown third and Paula Findlay fourth. Harry Palmer has ended his season early with a stress reaction, unfortunate news after a brilliant run of form through the summer. World Triathlon has submitted a formal bid for triathlon to return to the Commonwealth Games at Amdavad 2030. Alanis Siffert wins the Alpe d'Huez Triathlon for the third consecutive year, an extraordinary hat trick on one of the hardest courses in the sport. She had a notable issue in T2 that could have cost her, but pulled away to win regardless. Alistair Brownlee finished second at Norseman, making defending champion Kristian Grue work hard for his title. He's no longer competing as a professional but it's great to see one of the all-time greats taking on a race like this. Looking ahead to the 70.3 World Championships in Nice, the women's field is stacked, with Lucy Charles-Barclay, Taylor Knibb, Solveig Løvseth, Laura Philipp and Kat Matthews all lining up. On the men's side, the spotlight is on Hayden Wilde as world number one and the pressure is on him to deliver, alongside Geens, Van Riel, Stornes, Blummenfelt and Iden. In this episode, host Matt Lieto sits down with 2024 Pro Series winner Kat Matthews and IRONMAN World Champion Chelsea Sodaro, who each share powerful stories of overcoming adversity to make it to the Kona start line.First, Kat Matthews opens up about the immense psychological challenges she faced in her last Kona appearance. She reveals that she was dealing with hidden "post traumatic stress" from her near-fatal accident, which led to irrational fear and ultimately contributed to her race-day struggles. Now, having worked through that trauma, she returns to the island feeling happy, confident, and prepared. With her training numbers better than ever, Kat is motivated by the rising level of competition and is unequivocally here with one goal in mind: to win.Next, Chelsea Sodaro discusses her "really crazy year" of setbacks, including catching "every preschool virus one can get" from her daughter and suffering a torn calf. These challenges forced her to make a gritty, late-season trip to IRONMAN Kalmar in Sweden to validate her spot, an experience she describes as incredibly difficult. Despite the lack of consistency in her preparation, Chelsea reflects on her identity as a gritty, determined athlete who always gives everything on race day, and she is ready to do the same on the island that "makes me feel alive."

Plenty to cover from T100 London, starting with Hayden Wilde's incredible win less than 100 days after a horrific bike crash and Lucy Charles-Barclay's brilliant performance that makes her a clear contender for the Ironman World Championships in Kona this October. We break down both the men's and women's races, with the women's race standing out as one of the best T100 events we have seen. Away from London, Alex Yee smashed a 5km road race, setting up an epic showdown the next time he races Hayden. We then preview Ironman Kalmar, where Chelsea Sodaro and Nikki Bartlett headline the women's race, and Ironman Copenhagen, which sees Joe Skipper going head-to-head with Rasmus Svenningson in what promises to be an exciting battle. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
