Content Warning: This episode includes an open discussion about suicide. In this episode, I chat with the lovely Jules Sebastian, who you might know as a stylist, the host of the podcast and YouTube series Tea & Honesty and as the wife of singer and songwriter, Guy Sebastian. Jules can now add author to her list of achievements with the release of her first book Tea & Honesty. We sat down to chat about some of the important themes that Jules addresses in her book, from the perils of comparison in parenting, to understanding and raising wild boys and the challenges she has faced as a very busy mother of two, with a thriving media career and a schedule that demanded she make some tough decisions. Jules also shared her painful experiences with grief, following the loss of her brother to suicide. As anyone who has lost someone they love will know, the pain and the anguish can feel insurmountable. In this conversation, you will hear how beautifully Jules has been able to work through the loss, to find the moments of acceptance and joy, even through the darkest days. It's incredibly heartening to hear her trademark positivity guiding her through what undoubtedly has been an immensely painful time for her family. Jules shares so much of her story in this heart warming chat and just like in her book, there are a lot of lessons to take away, for anyone who might be wondering how to get through the trenches they might find themselves in or have any sense of doubt about who they are and where they are heading. Plenty of inspiration here. You can find Jules on Insta at @julessebastian and her book Tea & Honesty is available at all good bookstores. Today’s guest is mum of two Jules Sebastian – a TV presenter, stylist, public speaker and philanthropist who has captured the heart of Australia through her warm, relatable and honest approach to life. So, no wonder her debut book is called Tea & Honesty, inspired the endless learnings she’s gathered while creating her much-loved Tea With Jules programme on YouTube. Today we talk about career highs such as being Mel B’s stylist and of course, writing her first book, and we also talk about life’s biggest lows. It was when Jules was on her honeymoon with her husband Guy Sebastian that her dad called her with news that her big brother – a husband and father of two girls – had taken his own life. News, she says, that will never really sink in. Jules also talks about the decision to slow down her styling work when she was at the peak of her career and why good communication is the one thing every marriage needs. As always, Jules’ vulnerability is not only inspiring, it’s also incredibly comforting. Purchase Tea & Honesty here Visit www.julessebastian.com See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

While it may have appeared that Jules Sebastian has taken a backseat to her husband Guy's career, the presenter and stylist has always worked hard in the background and is now stepping into the spotlight at the age of 40. The mum of two boys is the host of Tea with Jules on YouTube, and now she's added author to her CV with the launch of her first-ever book Tea & Honesty. And being honest is exactly what Jules does in this chat - from missteps as a mum to why she decided to open up about the grief of losing her brother. Six years ago she started an online interview series called Tea with Jules and she has just released a book called Tea and Honesty based on those interviews. Today my guest on 'Around the Grounds' is the glorious Jennifer 'Jen' Fontaine.Jen is founder and MD of Private Idaho an artist management, and artist development company who have offices here in Australia as well as in LA. Jen and her incredible team work with iconic Australian talent including Human Nature, Guy Sebastian and the beautiful Jules Sebastian.I have been lucky enough to have known Jen for many years. In the music and entertainment industry she is a well-respected powerhouse of a woman. I loved catching up with her from her base in LA where she is in lock down with son Maxwell and her two beautiful dogs Bowie and China. I loved hearing Jen’s stories of rock n roll, travelling the globe, almost dying a plane with Molly Meldrum, learning how to start from scratch when Private Idaho landed in LA 4.5 years ago AND the importance of women supporting other women. A total inspiration to me and many others in our industry. Enjoy!www.privaetidaho.com.auInstagram @jenniferfontaine See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
How is Jules Sebastian coping with the chaos of parenting during a pandemic? In this episode of Coping with Chaos, Sean sits down with the stunning TV Personality to discuss the power of faith during times of uncertainty, how she's coping with becoming a full-time teacher, why crafts can cure boredom and anxiety, and the beauty that can come from crisis when you use it to fuel honest self-reflection.
This episode has been a long time in the making and even longer since I've admired these two both separately and together. Guy and Jules Sebastian are two of the world's biggest legends and the sweetest couple to have spent time with. With almost twenty years together, I thought they'd make the perfect guests for a power couple episode going all the way back to their teenage days when they met in little old Adelaide singing together. Yep, Jules sings too - one of many behind the scenes surprises - and while many of you know Guy as the winner of the first Australian Idol in 2003, he actually started out studying Medical Radiation before thankfully returning to his great gift for music. Since Australian Idol, Guy is the only Australian male artist to achieve six number one singles and nine of his singles have been certified multi-platinum including the 11x platinum Battlescars, the beginnings of which you'll hear him sing in the show. He even holds a record that Ed Sheeran is yet to beat and yet remains incredible humble, warm and grounded as you'll hear. Jules is equally as grounded (and grounding of their beautiful family) while also forging her own successful career as a stylist, presenter, host of Tea with Jules and an incredible philanthropist (something they enjoy pursuing together, with the Sebastian Foundation) – I have so admiration for her and as you'll hear Guy does too. You're in for a ripper almost hour and a half with some deep behind the scenes reflections, random tangents about family, Uber Eats and Guy's original demo CDs and of course signature Seize the Yay cackles. Of course, knowing I would be recording this at their home studio with ALL the fancy equipment, I upgraded my usual set up with a new adapter so they wouldn't have to share a microphone. The sound is a little different to usual – of course it happened with the Sebastians, I'm such a flipping noob – but hopefully you will enjoy it all the same. + Follow Guy and Jules here + See more on AMEX Platinum here + Announcements on Insta at @spoonful_of_sarah + Join our Facebook community here + Subscribe to not miss out on the next instalment of YAY! ‘There’s no shame in asking for a hand. Accepting that you need help and asking for it is the brave part. Giving someone a hand is just as brave.’ Ben HiggsWelcome back to Tea with Jules 2020. We continue on with the brave series, learning that bravery comes in all kinds of forms. Ben Higgs is the founder of The Rise Foundation. A foundation that exists to educate and teach the everyday practical tools we can use so people no longer have to suffer with mental illness or poor mental health.I have seen close up how serious mental health can be, so I do not treat this subject lightly. Neither does Ben. He sees his role to be an educational light to those suffering and those living with people suffering. Even though he has experienced his own battles, he does not think he is the poster child for mental health, nor does he want to be. He simply sees there are hurting people who need help to get through their days and has put up his hand to do what he can. With mental health becoming a subject we are increasing facing head on and many men and women are embracing their struggles openly and publicly, we are normalising issues that were once seen as a weakness. That is the point of this chat. To hit this head on. To gather as communities and rally together to see change. I hope you will get some practical, helpful tools from Ben to be on the look out for cracks in the perfect persona people put together and start asking the simple questions of Are you ok? And how can I help? Here is a link to Ben’s foundation and other helpful facilities in the show notes if you need to reach out. Angela Ceberano has been my friend for over a decade. We first met when my husband Guy signed to the music label BMG (later becoming Sony Music) after winning the very first Australian Idol! Ange was his assigned publicist at the label. The first thing I noticed about Ange was her Hollywood actress looks and her kind nature. I was very new to the world of the public eye, so anybody who showed me genuine kindness and was down to earth, I clung to! We grew closer over the years and it has been a pleasure to watch Ange blossom into the business mogul she is today. With all her music industry and PR knowledge, she decided to start her own agency. She named it Flourish. She and her team handle huge clients on all things publicity and branding. She has also recently released her very own range of candles called Marco and Co. which she lovingly named after her beautiful horse Marco. As a busy entrepreneur and working woman, Ange has had her fair share of challenges. Earlier this year, her husband Phil and her went through a heart renching miscarriage. She was brave enough to share her thoughts and feelings around that in our chat. Running your own business, juggling staff, a marriage and all that goes in between has lead Ange to take some time to reflect, pause and really take head of what is important in life. Her mission is to inspire but to also encourage people to find a lifestyle that is right for them. This includes rest and doing things you love. She believes it feeds your soul and fuels your passions. I couldn’t agree more. This is Angela Ceberano for Tea with Jules the Podcast. I first heard Leane Flynn speak at 2 events I attended earlier this year. Her story sparked inside of me an urgency to get her message out as far and wide as I could, so I invited her for tea. I'm grateful she came to willingly deliver what I think is vital information to women everywhere.Leane was suddenly diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in April 2017. There were no obvious signs, no pain or convincing warnings that a large tumour was growing on each ovary and another tumour was growing between Leane’s diaphragm and liver. She had put her consistent bloating and frequent need to urinate down to menopause. After the appropriate surgery, she was diagnosed with Stage 3C advanced ovarian cancer. As a wife and mother of 3 daughters, her life was understandably turned upside down. She went through all of the emotions and the doctors recommendations for treatments, but the cancer has been relentless and has returned since her initial diagnosis and treatments. She continues to fight the good fight and encourage women to be aware of the signs their bodies may be giving them.To really grasp the understanding of some facts about ovarian cancer, I turned to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation website (www.ocrf.com.au) and included some of their helpful information around the disease.‘Raising awareness won’t save lives. In order to save the lives of Australian women, we need to first fund the innovative research that will find an early detection test, and then focus on widespread adoption.Currently, only 20–25% of women diagnosed with advanced-stage ovarian cancer will survive beyond five years. But with an early detection test, that would skyrocket to over 90%.Every year, an estimated 1,600 Australian women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer. The vast majority of these are at an advanced stage, as there is currently no early detection test, and symptoms are frequently misdiagnosed or not reported. The only way to definitively diagnose ovarian cancer is by taking a tissue sample during surgery. In Australia, one women dies every eight hours from ovarian cancer. Although tests and scans can show abnormalities, they cannot provide a diagnosis of ovarian cancer. The only way to currently confirm a diagnosis is by taking a biopsy during surgery and looking at the cells under a microscope.Ovarian cancer is the eighth most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australian females, but the most lethal gynaecological cancer.Over 50% of the community incorrectly believes a Pap smear will diagnose ovarian cancer.’ The best way we can help as a community and individuals is to help fund research that will find an early detection test. As we have learned, raising awareness won’t save lives. Leane has put up her hand to be the voice of this horrific disease. Her mission, alongside www.ocrf.com.au is to see funds raised and for ovarian cancer to have early detection available for women.I hope you are as moved as I was by this chat with Leane – she was so generous in sharing her emotional journey, and I am forever grateful to her for this. This is Leane Flynn for Tea with Jules The PodcastFor the visuals that join this podcast you can visit the Jules Sebastian channel here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPRXmFFjSbM

This is PART 2 of Rabia Siddique's story. If you missed the first part, you can watch it here https://julessebastian.com/tea-with-jules-rabia-siddique-on-equal-justice-part-1/
Continuing along with our brave series on Tea with Jules, I could not go past the story of my next guest. As we sat and shared our tea, I was more and more taken with her tale of courage, determination and passion. Rabia Siddique begins her story in suburban Perth growing up as a Muslim. Her life changed forever when she became the victim of abuse and decided at a very early that she wanted to dedicate herself to helping others access justice in a way that she wasn’t able to as a little girl. She committed herself to helping others find their voice. The law was her vehicle. After joining the British Army as a military lawyer, she served in Iraq and was sent to negotiate the release of two kidnapped British soldiers. I’ll let Rabia finish sharing what unfolded while in negotiations. It’s an edge of your seat kind of moment.Rabia believes her higher purpose and calling is to serve people who live in parts of the world where they can’t access justice and equality is a foreign concept. What a purpose! She lives this calling out with a conviction that is rare and important for humanity. I decided to split this episode into two parts as Rabia’s story is detailed and beautiful and I didn’t want you to miss a thing. The next episode will follow soon. This is the epic journey of a brave woman, soldier, Muslim and mother. To really grasp the intensity of Rabia’s life, you really have to sit and absorb this conversation. So please, make your cuppa really hot, and enjoy PART 1.For the visuals on this episodehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fe1dqLjt6pU
Tash Sefton is a fashion and online business force. Her website Where Did Your Style Go teaches us how love clothes and how to love ourselves in them. When she joined me on Tea with Jules, I was not expecting the conversation to take the course it did – but I couldn’t have been more happy with where we went. We got down to the real deal and talked about topics that affect us all. Social media is something I have been thinking a lot about lately and have been trying to navigate my way through feelings of overwhelm and insecurity, so I was happy when Tash opened up to share her thoughts around living her life online, and how she found her true calling after hitting rock bottom. We talk about ageing in a ‘forever young’ industry and how Tash views this as a positive and uses it to learn and know more. Tash is at a fearless place in her life, and it shows. She is unstoppable. This is a powerful conversation and I think is an important one for all of us to hear. Now go grab your cuppa and listen in.Here is Tash Sefton for Tea with Jules The Podcast. For the visuals:TEA WITH JULESFor more on TashWhere Did Your Style GoInstagram

The sweetest episode of Tea with Jules yet! I first met Katherine Sabbath when I was hosting an event for Pandora, and Katherine was commissioned to make the yummy desserts. We chatted, I loved her immediately, I ate the cake and that was it! Fwwends - awww!I was struck not only for her incredible talent for building cakes, but her genuine passion for it. I had a million questions for her (mostly things like, 'how do you work an oven?' and 'can I pretend to have made this cake, and bring it home to impress my children?' so, I invited her for tea - and she brought CAKE!!Katherine is a colouful, insightful and thoughtful human. She believes in the the power of backing yourself, taking risks and making beautiful things!Hope you enjoy the conversation. xTea with Jules the visuals: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVd1nz2NfWI&t=35sAll about Katherine Sabbath:Website: https://katherinesabbath.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/katherine_s...Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/katherinesab...

Mother of 3 beautiful children and Founder and Director of Blacklist Jaynie Johnson and her husband, Nate started the business 11 years ago and have built a loyal following in the creative space. I love their description of what they do - 'We create art. By dreamers, for dreamers.' Make sure you check out their work.I first met Janie a few years ago and I was struck by her calm and positive nature. She’s one of those people who seem to glow from the inside out. The more I got and get to know her, the more impressive she becomes – not only because she oozes coolness, but she has a strength and wisdom that is rare. When Jaynie and Nate became pregnant with their second child Dare, they were to discover at birth that he was born with down syndrome. I’ll leave it to Jaynie to tell the unfolding of life after Dare, but I think you will agree with me that this family know how to do family right. Their goal is to raise their kids to be resilient, kind and loving humans, to show them that anything is possible in life, no matter what the circumstance.Jaynie is an example that building a successful business along side raising a strong family unit is very possible. I want encourage anyone listening that knows somebody raising a child with additional needs, to pass this interview onto them. I know they will benefit from hearing Jaynie’s story. She is wise beyond her years, and has experienced first hand all the emotions that go hand in hand with living a very full life. You will love Jaynie, she is a true light. Jules Sebastian came to our attention as the wife of musician Guy Sebastian but she has forged her own career in the media as a stylist a brand ambassador and most importantly as a mother.
If the word ‘dashing’ could morph itself into human form-it would come the shape of Neale Whitaker. When you invite the former editor of Vogue Living and Belle Magazine, into your freshly built house, it comes with a mixture of sheer terror and equal amounts of curiosity for what his opinion might be. When he entered the kitchen I went into a minor meltdown about if we had put the dishwasher and the bin in the correct position in the kitchen! As we all know from Neale's legendary position as judge on The Block-these sorts of things can rob you of some costly points. Once I realised I wasn’t in fact on an episode of reality TV, but having one of the loveliest humans to grace the planet for a tea and a chat, I was put instantly at ease by Neal’s charm and charisma. His knack for interiors and style is unmatched but his deep level of thinking and firm grip on reality makes for beautiful conversation. We go deep on life matters and Neal reveals his truest heart. We talk about fighting fear, building and loosing confidence, the moment he realised he was gay and what he wants to remembered for. This chat got me good. I was blown away by Neal's wisdom, calm nature and his genuine want to impact others for the better. He even offers some incredible relationship advice! I have been focusing on the subjects of self worth, self confidence and what success means to people in this series of Tea with Jules. Everyone's answers have been very helpful to hear and Neal's thoughts are no exception. I will take what he said and apply them in my own life. I sincerely hope you love this chat as much as I did – both Neale and I didn’t want it to end – but he had to catch a flight – so I couldn’t let him miss that! It's a tear jerker - you've been warned!

Samantha Wills is one of the nicest people I have had the pleasure of meeting. The first time I met her I was asked to style her for the cover of The Collective magazine. I was already a wreck with nerves come the day of shooting, but Samantha made the day so easy with her down to earth nature and cool, casual approach. Not to mention, the girl looks good in ANYTHING!Samantha is someone I have always wanted to have on Tea with Jules, and when I heard she was in town (she lives part time in New York city!), I jumped at the chance to gather her pearls of wisdom. She didn't disappoint.Samantha is an inspiration to not only budding entrepreneurs but any woman who wants to be brave in life and business. She explains that kindness and assertiveness can co-exist (yay!) and that authenticity and empathy makes a great leader. We talk about how she believes that the force is female and how we as women can contribute to that force. She is kind, funny, passionate and BOSS. You don't want to miss this. Now, go ahead - get your cuppa and join the conversation. Eleanor Pendleton is intimidatingly beautiful, insanely cool and just to top it off, she’s really, really, lovely. She is the brainchild behind the beauty site and online magazine grittypretty.com and has build a cult following amongst beauty lovers. The site is dedicated to all things make up, skin care and hair. It’s a stunning site – make sure you check it out.Elle and I have has similar upbringings in terms of being raised in smaller towns by stay at home mum’s and stable families, but as we know, not everything is always smooth sailing in life. That’s what makes it beautiful. Elle shares her story on her rise to the top and the sacrifices she has had to make along the way to get there. What I love about Eleanor is that she is raw and honest and doesn’t hide behind anything shiny (except for maybe her immaculate skin!)– she is so real about what life looks like. It’s imperfect, it’s messy and she is very aware that everybody is fighting their own silent battles. She has fought her own battles, with confidence and self worth that she was so brave to talk about with me. I never take for granted the exchange that happens when I am chatting with someone. People’s stories are precious and I try to handle them all with care. Eleanor is no exception. She is insanely loveable, so very smart and has a determination to change the world for the better Here is Eleanor Pendleton for Tea with Jules the Podcast.Website: Gritty PrettyInstagram: @eleanorpendleton
You will recognize the wonderful Julia Zemiro from the telly. She is an actress, radio & television presenter, singer, writer and comedian. The gal can really do it all! Hosting shows like RocKwiz, Thank God You’re Here, Eurovision and Home Delivery, Julia has experience for days, and she is every bit the warm, friendly and funny woman you expect her to be. I first met Julia when my husband Guy ventured off to Vienna for Australia’s very first entry into Eurovision where Julia was hosting along side Sam Pang. I don’t think I’ve ever had a more fun time in all my life! It’s an experience that will stay with me forever. What I noticed about Julia from that trip was her commitment to the job. She was so professional and brilliant at what she does. Her most recent role has seen her become the Artistic Director for the Adelaide Cabaret Festival – the world’s largest cabaret festival – go Adelaide – who knew! It’s a role she is very proud of and you can see she is having a ball being involved. At the core of this already very impressive human, is a smart, endearing woman who really knows who she is. She has held her position in career and life by empowering others in her industry, saying no even when it’s hard to, and showing up to every job and situation just as she is – her true authentic self. She was all in on our conversation. Her offering was generous and honest and I learned so many life lessons just listening to her. I had an absolute hoot chatting with Julia – I could have honestly stayed all day. Here is Julia Zemiro for Tea with Jules the Podcast.
Hello and welcome to Beauty Island! As I mentioned in Tuesday’s episode, to mark the halfway point of season two, instead of a normal beauty island episode, this week we have two bonus Five Favs from two of my guests so far. Jules Sebastian was earlier this week and today, is former ELLE Beauty Director Amy Starr. As you might know by now - or maybe you don’t! - my name is Brittany Stewart and I’m the voice inside your ears aka the host of Beauty Island. In each main episode, I ask a special guest about the eight beauty products that have a special memory or meaning for them. But, in Five Favs, the focus is on the beauty products in their makeup bags they’re loving right now.Amy Starr is the former Beauty and Lifestyle Director of ELLE Australia. Her main episode dropped a few weeks ago, so just scroll down a little on your feed if you haven’t listened to that already. In Five Faves, she talks about nearly-always-sold-out foundation alternative she loves, and why you should never apply a serum to a dry face. This was one piece of beauty advice that blew my mind. As someone with over a decade of experience at Australia’s top magazines, I couldn’t not ask about where she thinks there’s still a future for print magazines. If you enjoy the podcast, you can subscribe to make sure you never miss an episode. And if you really like it, please consider rating five stars and writing a review about why you love Beauty Island. Jules Sebastian shares...Hello and welcome to Beauty Island, the beauty podcast that celebrates life and lipstick.I’m your host, beauty journalist, Brittany Stewart, and each episode I sit down with a guest to ask them about the 8 beauty products that have a special memory or meaning for them, that they’d take to a desert island, or Beauty Island, that I am sending them off too. Maybe it’s the product that reminds them of their mum, the beauty product that defined their teens or the perfume that instantly sparks a memory of a special place or person.Along the way we find out more about their life, career and the people and events that have shaped them into who they are today.Today my guest is stylist and TV presenter, Jules Sebastian. If the name sounds familiar, yes, she is wife of that well known Aussie singer Guy Sebastian, but if that’s all you know about her then you are in for a real treat with this episode.Jules is a TV presenter, stylist, has combined the two with two makeover shows MTV’s Style Me and Channel 7’s Bringing Sexy Back, host of her own fantastic YouTube interview series Tea With Jules and is also a philanthropist with The Sebastian Foundation which she set up with her husband. She shares some of the incredible work they’re doing for families, and particularly victims of domestic violence (*content warning*).We talk about the moment she discovered that doing all the creative things she loved could be her career and working incredibly hard to make it happen, the imposter syndrome she still feels to this day, the perfume that always gets her compliments from strangers and what it’s like meeting your soulmate at 14 years old. How she talks about her relationship with Guy, well, I think we both got a bit teary! She's also so genuine, kind and downright lovely. Enjoy.Love Beauty Island? Please subscribe, rate and review! Jules Sebastian is a down-to-Earth Sydney mum with two little boys who love scooting in the park and reading books with their dad - who just happens to be Aussie pop star, Guy Sebastian. Jules chats about her transition into becoming a parent of school-aged child, the genius game she uses to teach her boys to read, and what parenting is like when the paparazzi are watching her every move. Plus, parenthood can feel like a baptism of fire some days, which is what happened to Kidspot's Parenting Editor, Bek Day with her 15-month-old son. Two words; eye boogers. GROSS! Attention binge-watchers, it's time to discover the hugely popular streaming series, The Handmaid's Tale. It's chilling and uncomfortable but equally brilliant. And we ask the question; when is too young for kids to stay at home alone. Shownotes: Your hosts are Bek Day (filling in for Mel Wilson), Cassie Hamer and Michael Adams. Love The Juggling Act?
