He talks to Music Ally Editor Joe Sparrow about the bigger-picture possibilities and repercussions that AI could have on the music industry – he calls it "the most consequential tool the music industry could use" and one that "could solve a number of its biggest challenges," including real-time music detection, metadata, and personalised discovery. Britain's first ‘New Town', built to accommodate 60,000 residents, was Stevenage, Hertfordshire - designated on 11th November, 1946 by Lewis Silkin, Labour's Minister for Town and Country Planning. Inspired by the rush to accommodate Londoners displaced by the Nazi bombing of the capital, the construction of the concrete metropolis was heavily opposed by the 6,400 residents of ‘Old Stevenage', the ancient town that was to be superseded. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly trace Silkin's vision back to a 1695 essay by Quaker reformer John Bellers; ask whether the concrete-clad aesthetic of the architecture was a terrible mistake; and re-live nostalgic trips to play laser tag in the leisure park… Further Reading: • ‘Stevenage New Town' (Stevenage Museum, 2022): https://www.stevenage.gov.uk/stevenage-museum/history-of-stevenage/stevenage-through-the-ages/stevenage-new-town • ‘Stevenage: The town that aimed for Utopia' (BBC News, 2016): https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-beds-bucks-herts-37826783 • 'Mr. Silkin Goes To Stevenage' (British Pathé, 1946): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=txHbMusO33o #40s #UK #Architecture #Design We'll be back on Monday - unless you join

AI technology has opened up ethical concerns about the technology when it comes to privacy, surveillance, bias and discrimination. The £7.5m fine imposed by the U.K. on facial recognition company Clearview AI for breaking the UK's data protection laws reflects the scale of the problem emerging. The Government's recent appointment of Dr Patricia Scanlon as the country's new AI Ambassador will help lead a national conversation on the role of AI in people's lives, emphasising Ireland's commitment to an ethical approach to the use of the technology. The strong emphasis on deploying an ethical approach in the technology's application should help prevent mishaps similar to the Clearview AI scandal in the U.K, but how can the public be safeguarded from such practices? Ronan talks to legal AI specialist, Victor Timon, Partner at Lewis Silkin about this and more. More about Victor Timon: Victor Timon is Partner in the London and Dublin offices of the international law firm Lewis Silkin. He heads up the commercial, technology, data and intellectual property practice in Dublin. Hosted and produced by Rostrum's in-house trainer and crisis lead, Grant Bather, episode six sees Grant discuss the legal implications of a negative reputational issue with Oliver Fairhurst from law firm Lewis Silkin. Throughout the podcast Grant and Oliver return to the theme of preparation. They discuss steps organisations can take to mitigate internal pressures and cover off the general considerations that all businesses, large and small, should be mindful of – conscious of the fact that all organisations are different. All of these factors need to feed into a business' approach to stakeholders, tone and more. The podcast also briefly examines case studies, including Aldi and Alton Towers, among others, as well as the role social media plays in a crisis.

As a result of Covid-19, there was a significant economic decline in Hong Kong, with some businesses forced to close their doors or reduce their trading and services. The Hong Kong Government tried to ease the pressure put on businesses by introducing the Employment Support Scheme last year with the aim of helping employers retain their workforce and reduce redundancies; however, that scheme only lasted 6 months and, while helpful, did not solve the longer term issues faced by businesses. The unemployment rate in Hong Kong has declined from 5% to 4.7% in recent months - the lowest level since March 2020 - and the economy is expected to grow by 6.5% this year, which is positive news and may indicate that the economy is slowly improving in Hong Kong. For many companies, however, the impact of the pandemic means that this slow recovery is not enough, and they must now consider restructuring their workforce to get back on track. Those companies facing this challenge will undoubtedly have a number of questions. The first question to ask is whether a company can make redundancies if it is still a going concern. From the processes to the costs, Kathryn Weaver of Lewis Silkin talked to me about redundancy procedures in Hong Kong.
