Here's what we're reading, recommending, and revisiting this week.Catherine's library find is for all you Janeites who are also fiber artists. It's called Austentatious Crochet: 36 Contemporary Designs from the World of Jane Austen by Melissa Horozewski. Mentioned: The Mr. Darcy and Miss Tilney mystery series.Terri's random recommendation is graciously stepping aside this week so Catherine can report on her trip to Scotland and England (speaking of the world of Jane Austen!). She visited London, Liverpool, and Edinburgh, where she attended performances at both the International Festival and the Fringe Festival—including one from Laura Benanti, of The Gilded Age and Broadway fame.In the archives, we checked in on an episode from 2020 on parenting through the (kids') ages. It's hard all the time!Next week's lineup: Lost S3 E14, "Exposé," on Tuesday, September 2The Gilded Age S3 E7, "Ex-Communicated," on Wednesday, September 3Weekly roundup on Thursday, September 4Until then (and anytime you're in need), the archives are available.

This week's guest is Rebecca Rodger, a podiatrist from Kendal, England, who proves there's no single path to success in our profession. From running a multidisciplinary clinic to working in COVID vaccination, and now shaping global wound care strategies at Convatec, Rebecca has redefined what it means to be a podiatrist. We discuss networking, mentorship, and the value of exploring non-traditional career paths, as well as why evidence-based wound care should be a priority for every podiatrist. ⭐ 5 Standout Takeaways Your podiatry skills are never lost; they serve as your ultimate career safety net. Non-traditional career paths expand the profession's global influence. Evidence-based care must be applied in private practice. Networking beyond podiatry broadens professional horizons. Mentorship accelerates growth and supports the next generation. “You can almost stagnate if you don't go onto the next opportunity.” My conversation with Rebecca was both inspiring and practical. She is proof that podiatry can open doors to diverse opportunities far beyond the clinic. Whether it's entrepreneurship, research, corporate health, or global strategy, our profession provides a platform for impact at every level. If you've ever thought about pivoting or exploring non-traditional career paths, Rebecca's story is a reminder that it's possible, and that your podiatry skills will always remain your foundation. Rebecca will be speaking at the 2026 Foot & Ankle Show in Liverpool - https://www.footandankleshow.com/speakers-2026/ If you're looking for a speaker for an upcoming event, you can email me at tyson@podiatrylegends.com or tf@tysonfranklin.com, and we can discuss the range of topics I cover. The history of humanity is the history of individuals making decisions, sometimes collectively, and sometimes individually. New artificial intelligence, AI, brings a new player into the mix: machines capable of making decisions alongside or instead of their human counterparts. Sean O’Callaghan and Paul Hoffman grapple with the theological implications of this new technology. Sean O'Callaghan is an associate professor of religious and theological studies at Salve Regina University, where he also serves as a coordinator of the AI Initiative. He previously served as director of the Ph..D.. program in humanities and technology and is currently a faculty member in that program. He received his Ph.D. in systematic theology from the University of Liverpool in 2008. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Blackpool, Lancashire lies on the Irish Sea on the northwest coast of England, situated roughly 50-some miles north of Liverpool and 50-some miles west of Manchester. This seaside destination may conjure up visions of tourists, the Promenade, Pleasure Beach, or Blackpool Tower, but this week we focus on Blackpool as a crucial stop on the musical map. Joining us for this engaging discussion is one of Blackpool's favourite musical sons, John Robb! John was outside enjoying a lovely sunny day in Manchester, and we were lucky to get nearly an hour of his time before his phone connection went kaput. John has been at the centre of Blackpool post-punk legends the Membranes from their original 1977-1990 run to their post-hiatus return since 2009. Their initial era (including their three UK Top 20 indie albums and three Top 20 indie singles) is covered on Cherry Red's comprehensive 5 CD box set, Everyone's Going Triple Bad Acid, Yeah! They added to their already impressive body of work in the 21st century with two of their finest and most ambitious albums yet: 2015's Dark Matter/Dark Energy and 2019's What Nature Gives...Nature Takes Away. But wait, there's far more to this multi-faceted artist. Aside from also leading the punk band Goldblade, Robb has also produced bands like Therapy? and Cornershop; been a TV presenter and pundit; a journalist; best-selling author (including The Art of Darkness - The History of Goth, Punk Rock: An Oral History, Stone Roses and the Resurrection of British Pop, The North Will Rise Again, and an upcoming Oasis biography); creator of the essential Louder Than War website and magazine; festival boss; green revolutionary; vegan behemoth...a true renaissance man. The Morning Footy crew reflect on the heartwarming tribute at Anfield as Liverpool launched their season in memory of Diogo Jota and his brother André - a poignant moment that united fans and players in grief and respect. But the mood darkened when Bournemouth's Antoine Semenyo endured racial abuse during the match, leading to a fan's arrest. The team breaks down the emotional highs, the ugly low, and what it says about the Premier League's efforts to stamp out discrimination. To the naked eye, being level with the champions of England with minutes to spare before going down 4-2 - might be disappointing and disheartening - however the manner of Bournemouth's performance at Liverpool left a lot of people purring, including the opposition themselves. Sam and Tom analyse the weekend's action on Merseyside, as Andoni Iraola's Cherries, still with some recruitment to do, showed the Premier League that this season has all the hallmarks to be yet another exciting campaign.
