When Archer and T'Pol find the Syrannites in the caves, they reunite with Mrs. T and learn T'Pau wasn't the United Earth Embassy bomber. But after Archer tells the Syrannites that he's carrying Surak's katra, he leads them to an important ancient relic while the High Command threatens war. How is Ben like T'Pau? Which type of prison cell feels like a very Vulcan idea? What's the main thing that keeps Adam out of cults? It's the episode that's fascinated by the idea of going full torch.Support the production of The Greatest GenerationGet a thing at podshop.biz!Sign up for our mailing list!Follow The Game of Buttholes: The Will of the Riker - Quantum LeapThe Greatest Generation is produced by Wynde PriddySocial media is managed by Rob Adler and Bill TilleyMusic by Adam Ragusea & Dark MateriaFriends of DeSoto for: Labor | Democracy | JusticeDiscuss the show using the hashtag #GreatestGen and find us on social media:YouTube | Facebook | X | Instagram | TikTok | Mastodon | Bluesky | ThreadsAnd check out these online communities run by FODs: Reddit | USS Hood Discord | Facebook group | Wikia | FriendsOfDeSoto.social Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Making a return to the Necronomicast, a favorite of mine...Jason Offutt! Tonight we chat about his newest book "Chasing North American Monsters"! From his website: "Jason Offutt grew up on a farm near the little town of Orrick, Missouri. In his life he's been a farm hand, journalist, photographer, bartender, and the mayor of that same small town. Jason now teaches journalism at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, and keeps the world safe from the forces of evil. Okay, so now that the interview bio's out the way, here's who I really am. I'm a nerd. A Dungeons and Dragons playing, "Star Trek" watching, conspiracy theory Fanboy. "The Twilight Zone" is the greatest television program ever created, author Michael Crichton was a wizard, and I once went to a Halloween party dressed as Gilligan (my wife went as Mary Ann. Hubba hubba). As a kid I looked for Sasquatch footprints in the yard, UFOs over our farmhouse (one night my whole family saw something that shouldn't – couldn't – have been in the sky. Damn straight), and one afternoon, alone, I saw a full-bodied apparition that stared at me through hollow eyes. So, yeah. That's me. If you want to talk writing, nerd stuff, or the paranormal, send me a message. I'll try to respond as soon as possible, but if I'm on deadline, that cute kid in the picture can be kind of a dick." Jason's newest book is another page turner that is just as much fun and is as brilliant as its author! Have fun with this episode of Necronomicast! EPISODE 648 - Chester L Richards - From The Potato to Star Trek and Beyond, Smithsonian Institution, Being A MonsterChester L. RichardsAerospace Engineer (Ret.), Inventor, Adventurer, Author, Storyteller, RomanticThe philosophy developed by Chester L. Richards, aerospace engineer, adventurer and inventor (19 patents), has indeed caused him to view all that comes his way as an adventure. Even a visit to the hospital! (Look for stories about these surprisingly entertaining forays into Deep Space Medical soon in his blog, "Stories.")That attitude took shape early. In college, a bit after those early escapes from being thoroughly roasted by The Great Potato's molten lead flinging tricks, Chester and friend Judy Burns co-authored a spec script for “Star Trek” on a lark. The story, “The Tholian Web,” became one of the series' most popular episodes. A veteran writer advised the young man, “You should write….write your passions.” “But I have nothing to say,” Chester thought. That was the moment he decided the real message was to fill his life with adventures. And he did — adventures in surfing, learning and performing music, travel to exotic places for river rafting, and his work as a rocket scientist. Along the way, he's always met fascinating characters. He did write — essays (over 50 have been published so far). At the house in Thousand Oaks he and his late beloved Sarah once shared, he brought himself back from the brink of despair by writing the hair-raising adventures Sarah loved, and that continue to occur, though as the author says, he no longer has much hair.Book: From The Potato to Star Trek and BeyondBook: The Trek Continues: More Memoirs of a Rocket Scientisthttps://www.chesterlrichards.com/Support the show___https://livingthenextchapter.com/podcast produced by: https://truemediasolutions.ca/Coffee Refills are always appreciated, refill Dave's cup here, and thanks!https://buymeacoffee.com/truemediaca
TEX-TREK Mission 359: STAR TREK : TNG's "The First Duty" Back-Trekking RetrospectiveThis week Dave returns to discuss one of Fatheree's all-time favorite TNG episodes. "The First Duty" is a Starfleet Academy-centric, serious, drama that sets the bar pretty damn high for the upcoming show. Also, this excellent story is a great example of how good Star Trek can be even when focused on cadets and teachers.

Great Video Version: https://bit.ly/48WPbYd After a very modest beginning in 1966, the original “Star Trek” TV series was canceled by NBC after only 3 seasons and 79 episodes. But it found new life in syndication and gradually became a cultural phenomenon. It went onto spawn 13 feature length movies between 1979-2016 (new one coming soon). It has also hatched 12 additional TV series (2 still running) that have collectively produced over 900 episodes (and counting). How does a TV show that lasted only half the seasons as one of its 1960's TV contemporaries, “Mister Ed”, (about a talking horse) become a - still growing - $20 billion dollar franchise? Anuradha and Thad are joined by returning guest host and “super fan” Jim Maurer to dive deep into the 60-year legacy of “Star Trek”. How did this nearly forgotten show rise from the ashes and become a surprise sleeper hit? We explore the groundbreaking nature of the show and its enduring influence on modern entertainment. We also give you some delicious scandal extras – like the first interracial kiss ever in primetime television. And the creator/showrunner, Gene Roddenberry, shagging 2 of his series' actresses simultaneously, WHILE going through a divorce. Holiday fun for all! This week, we talk with our favorite Newspace Buccaneer, Jeffrey Manber. When so many people were touting their private spaceflight dreams in the 1980s, Manber took the next enormous stride and actually made it happen. He formed the Office of Space Commerce within the US Department of Commerce at the invitation of the Reagan administration, forged the first commercial relations with the then-Soviet Union, bridged that into the post-USSR period, and was responsible for the first commercial spaceflight to the then-mothballed Soviet-era Mir space station with a crew that stayed there for 70 days. He then went on to develop a variety of commercial space enterprises, from the first commercial platform to release smallsats from the ISS to initiating the Bishop airlock that became part of the space station. He also started Nanoracks, the first privately developed and standardized satellite deployment mechanism to fly. Finally, he initiated Starlab, the private space station currently under development by Voyager Technologies and a consortium of aerospace companies. John talks with Walker Kimberly Brandt — actress, model, spokesperson, voiceover artist, coach, speaker, entrepreneur, author of AWAKEN: Discovering Yourself Through the Light of Your Innocence, and loving wife and mom. Listen to this episode to learn more: [00:00] - Intro [03:27] - God is the greatest artist [06:58] - John and Walker's daily gratitude habit [08:52] - Walker's background [09:38] - Meaning of "Discovering Yourself Through the Light of Your Innocence" [12:07] - What is pain? [14:29] - Flip how you see pain [16:17] - How Viktor Frankl and Nelson Mandela reframed pain [19:04] - Walker's favorite acting project: Star Trek [22:29] - "People can only be where they are" [24:14] - Walker's faith in God [33:27] - Outro NOTABLE QUOTES: "God's understanding is greater than our own. The wisdom is beyond what we'll ever understand." "Allow yourself to be the student of life again." "If we can remember that resilience and that incredible mastery that we are, we'd be a lot more courageous, joyful, understanding, and tolerant of one another." "Pain is temporary, and pain always comes with a silver lining. There is always something to learn." "Let's introduce the possibility that your pain might be your greatest gift, even though it may take a moment to convince what you've learned and what has influenced your life that this is something you should avoid. This is something you're not avoiding. You don't even know it's mapping out your life. It has more power than your actual choices right now." "Why not just flip it (our idea of what pain means) and allow for the possibility that that pain is temporary, meaningful, and even helpful? There is something so powerful there, because it gives you an understanding of your capacity and an understanding that you're really never completely alone, because you've got you in every circumstance. We don't want pain, but sometimes it's exactly what you need if you want to get to the next level, or levels beyond your comprehension." "People can only be where they are. When you learn something, you want to bring people with you because you know it'll be better for them, but respecting that a person is where they are, offering the information, and letting them choose is really important, because it has to be a personal choice." It's time for another Mind Gap Podcast! This week, Doug and Justin share how they spent their Thanksgivings. The dorks then discuss the uncomfortable, and oftentimes unnecessary, icebreakers that precede team meetings. Doug shares a specific instance that happened recently and how he may have misread the room. The dorks then spend a bit of time just talking about mac & cheese…deal with it. Our hosts finally make their way to the main topic, fictional tools that would instantly be abused IRL. They cover things such as the time-turner and invisibility cloak from Harry Potter, replicator from Star Trek, and the Neuralyzer from Men in Black among other things. Things are wrapped up with a new game called Patch Notes: Real Life Edition, where Justin reads out patch notes for real life and Doug has to decide if they're good or if they should be scrapped as garbage. Check out our YouTube channel where we livestream our new podcast episodes every Tuesday at 8pmCT and our video game stream every Saturday at 8pmCT. It’s pitch week! Anthony and Laurie are joined by Trev and Stanley from The Salon to talk about all the Star Trek TV pitches out there—but they start with an in-depth look at the brand-new clip from the first episode of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. They talk about Paul Giamatti’s insights into his SFA character, Nus Braka, and Robert Picardo’s confirmation on which version of The Doctor is in the show. They discuss the sentimental posts from Strange New Worlds actors as production heads towards its end, and the imminent departure of Prodigy and other Trek shows from Netflix across the globe. Then it’s time for the main topic: all the TV pitches out there for new Trek series from creatives who’ve already worked in the franchise. They break down each one—ideas from Tawny Newsome & Justin Simien, Terry Matalas, Mike Sussman, Akiva Goldsman & Henry Alonso Myers, Aaron Waltke, and Jennifer Muro—and assess its viability as a group. After that, each person makes their own pitch for a Star Trek show that is assessed by the others: Greenlight? Development deal? Hard pass? Listen to find out.

After that, each person makes their own pitch for a Star Trek show that is assessed by the others: Greenlight? Development deal? Hard pass? Listen to find out.

It's a jam-packed, rain-soaked, holiday-fueled episode of KentNow! Mark dives into some serious nerd news with Magic: The Gathering's massive 2025 success and what's coming in 2026—think TMNT, Marvel, Star Trek, and The Hobbit (yes, Wizards of the Coast is right here in our backyard). Tracy is fully in her Swiftie era with the new Taylor Swift docuseries dropping on Disney+, complete with Eras Tour finales and a Travis Kelce cameo or two. The crew debates Christmas movie classics (and once again asks the very important question: Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?), talks holiday favorites, and reminds everyone that after all this rain and wind, now's the time to get winter-weather ready—emergency kits included. On the City side, we celebrate Kent PD's Community Education unit for taking home the big trophy in the Battle of the Badges Holiday Lights, honor Councilmember Brenda Fincher's 12 years of service as she heads into retirement and recap a busy week of Council meetings and budget updates. We also check in on Mayor Ralph's recent trip to Olympia to discuss Kent's 2026 legislative priorities. Plus: Spring Kent 101 enrollment is open, the Christmas Rush 5K is this weekend (kids run free!), Santa's mailbox is open, tiny yetis are hiding downtown, and we wrap it all up with some delightfully weird Christmas facts you didn't know you needed. Grab some cocoa, stay dry, and hit play.

AI is transforming software development—redefining roles, creativity, and community, while challenging developers to embrace ambiguity, orchestrate specialized agents, and stay human through empathy and curiosity. Will AI make developers more creative, or will we forget how the machine really works under the hood? This week Dave, Esmee , Rob sit down with Scott Hanselman, VP Developer Community at Microsoft for a wildly energetic, deeply human, and brilliantly practical conversation about how AI is reshaping software development and what that means for creativity, careers, and all industries. Tread Merrily continues with a return to Boston for a Spenser: For Hire episode called "The Hopes And Fears." A chance encounter with Rita near a department store leads Spenser to treat the assistant district attorney to a "Spenserian" Christmas. Matters are complicated when a gang of hockey-masked hoodlums begin a rash of break-in robberies -- they even steal from Hawk! -- a young witness to one of their crimes goes missing, and another is threatened by a member of the crew. Will Spenser be able to solve all of the mysteries and protect his community before they resort to mob justice? Also, will he pull off the perfect Christmas for Rita? Erik and Justin immediately start talking Star Trek and Avery Brooks. Additionally, Erik cannot refer to Carolyn McCormick, who plays Rita, as anything but "Minuet" -- her character from an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Guest stars Seth Green and Nancy Travis prove to be welcome additions to the ensemble. Justin finally recognizes co-star Ron McLarty from Cop Rock. He also geeks out about the presence of Lynn Thigpen. A member of the hockey mask gang inspires the title "Dirty Kenny Loggins." The pair remember the 1980s fruit cake joke and Erik champions star Robert Urich for a surprising Star Trek role.

Also this week: hot zombies, cold villains, and chilling motivations!

Drawing on his background as a former high school science teacher, Mike brings a methodical, educational approach to complex technical concepts. Through his blog and YouTube channel, he shares insights on macOS automation technologies including Keyboard Maestro, AppleScript, and shell scripting. Mike is passionate about the concept of "digital mise en place" — creating thoughtfully organized digital environments that eliminate friction and support creative work. When not exploring new automation techniques, Mike can be found documenting his family's quest to visit all U.S. National Parks. His web site is TheMikeBurke.com. By day, Bart Busschots is a Linux sysadmin, cyber security expert, and Perl programmer, as well a keen amateur photographer when ever he gets the time. Bart hosts and produces the Let's Talk podcast series - a monthly Apple show that takes a big-picture look at the last month in Apple news, and a monthly photography show focusing on the art and craft of photography. Every second week Bart is the guest for the Chit Chat Across the Pond segment on Allison Sheridan's NosillaCast. You can get links to everything Bart gets up including a link to his photography and his personal blog. Prior to joining Rockwell Collins Kirschen worked at Acuity (formerly ichat) developing interactive user interfaces for live chat customer service agents. Now retired, there's now more time to share technical insights on her blog, develop useful scripts (Python, shell), and write Shortcuts. Oh, maman... On this episode of Star Trek Universe, it's a dash of racism,a sprinkling of imperialism, and a skosh of jingoism as Effie and I roll our eyes along to one of the absolute worst episodes of Star Trek ever produced – an episode so bad it was repeatedly rejected by the studio, from the beginning! We're talking Roddenberry's pet project, "The Omega Glory", maman! It ain't pretty.
This week Jim gets overly fruity with a christmas cake, Elton gets fleeced at a pub, Darren spends five nights at Freddies... Twice and Lee watches Kate Winslet be miserable in america and gets financially ram raided by an electrician Then after a brief shot of feedback for last weeks episode Madame Web its on to this weeks film. Matt Damon, Edward Norton and John Malkovich who thought when the director said he should play his character like someone in a Chekov play, thought they meant Mr Chekov from Star Trek, all star in the 1998 Poker movie Rounders. But is Poker even a sport? What if the future of humanity's evolution is intertwined with extraterrestrial contact, and it all begins with your vibration? In this episode of The Healing & Human Potential Podcast, I welcome back Darryl Anka, who has been channeling an extraterrestrial being, Bashar, for over 40 years. Together, we discuss Bashar's predictions of the upcoming global exposure of extraterrestrials and how, while they have always been here, they will soon be recognized as a key part of humanity's evolution. They offer us the chance to evolve in ways we've never imagined, but it's up to us to decide whether to embrace this opportunity. We explore how raising your vibration can prepare you for this shift, making you more open to contact with extraterrestrials, spirit guides, and other higher-dimensional beings. Darryl shares valuable insights on following your excitement, staying positive through life's changes, and letting go of limiting beliefs. This episode offers practical steps to help you align with your highest potential and stay open to the guidance and opportunities unfolding as we move toward a new era of open extraterrestrial contact. === If you need a practice to come home to yourself, try this meditation for 30 days & watch your life shift: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/10-minutes-to-shift-from-overwhelm-to-inner-peace-abundance/id1705626495?i=1000738341998 === We are accepting applications for ICM 2026!
