For the first time, The Trek Files sets course for Trek's modern streaming era, and it all begins with a ship. We're looking back at the 2016 press release that introduced the U.S.S. Discovery to the world at San Diego Comic-Con, marking the first step into a new era of Star Trek on television. Our guest is Adam Kotsko, scholar and author of Late Star Trek, who joins Larry to examine how Discovery and the shows that followed have reshaped the franchise for the 21st century. From universe-building to “fan service,” and from mythology to modern IP, this episode dives into the creative, commercial, and cultural tensions that define the current Trek landscape. Whether you're a fan of Strange New Worlds or still grappling with Picard, there's something here for every Trek-O-File. Document and additional references: U.S.S. Coy Jandreau & John Humphrey take on the most epic animated event in DC history with Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One, the first chapter of the 2024 animated trilogy directed by Jeff Wamester and adapted from the legendary 1980s comics. When Barry Allen a.k.a. We discuss the behind the scenes, the props , the models, the issues with the Challenger accident as well as the dedication for the crew of that ship. This is one of the most beloved favorite of Star Trek films. This episode will involve discussing some of the trivia from IMDB curated and then discussing some of the liner notes from the deluxe edition of the score of the film. Then we will discuss some key music cues from the film and see how those affect us or even show wonders of Leonard Rosenman whom Leonard Nimoy picked to score the film. We talk a lot about the ending cue which stands out for the whole film honestly. Eric Woods as you know is a talented podcaster who runs Cinematic Sound Radio and I am a part of his podcasting network. There are several shows associated with the network. 6.

Join Howard, Kidder, and the LCL Geek for an episode absolutely packed with AI gone wild, peculiar beverages, and some truly outrageous Star Trek fan awards! What's on Tap: Tropical & Tart! Get ready for some wild taste tests! LCL Geek kicks it off with non-alcoholic mango Jarritos. Then, Howard and Kidder brave a Shiner mango lemonade shandy, debating its sweet-and-sour punch. Plus, hear about Dialectic Brewery's new cotton candy sour! AI Takes Over (and Gets SUED!) Hold onto your hats! Howard drops major news about Disney and Universal suing MidJourney and authors launching a class-action lawsuit against AI trained on pirated books! The guys dissect Google's new AI video generator and the bizarre trend of AI-generated "Bible vlogs." Kidder shares hilarious AI-generated Star Wars content and a "Midwest goodbye" parody. But beware: AI might be learning to disobey humans – just like Total Recall! Local Bites & Dream Skills Kidder gives the lowdown on Finn Asian Cuisine, an all-you-can-eat sushi spot that's shaking up the local scene! Then, everyone spills on skills they wish they had: from sushi-making and podcast domination to the fascinating (and legally tricky) world of distilling! Dad Jokes & SCANDALOUS Star Trek Awards! Who gets crowned "lamest character," "biggest a******," and yes, the most coveted (or notorious) title: "biggest ho" in the Star Trek universe?! Plus, quick updates on Strange New Worlds and Prodigy's shocking cancellation. Final Thoughts: AI's Future The episode wraps with a serious (but quick!) chat about AI's power and the urgent need for ethical use – especially when it comes to artists' rights. AI Just Taught Me This Cool Thing… It is Amazing

    Money Tree Investing

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 25, 2025 47:47

AI just taught me this cool thing... keep on listening to find out what it is! Today we talk about the massive and fast-moving implications of AI. We share the personal experiences with how AI challenges traditional business structures and workflows, requiring users to reimagine how work is done. We also explores how AI may replace many functions within organizations, from marketing to operations, while still lacking in areas like math accuracy and sales conversations. We also talk about Mary Meeker's AI report, noting unprecedented user adoption, the rapid rise of global competitors like China's DeepSeek, and the prediction that LLMs will become personal, customizable, and nearly costless. We need to rethink AI's role in business, its deflationary impact on cost, and how fast-changing technology may render old tools and concepts obsolete.  We discuss...  How humor and sarcasm could be the final frontier in distinguishing AI from humans. The greatest investment in AI is learning how to use it personally and professionally. How limited human imagination, not technology, is the biggest barrier to innovation with AI. AI's limitations in math were noted, with a warning not to fully trust it as a CFO despite its operational usefulness. AI isn't quite ready for high-touch sales calls but is rapidly closing the gap in other business areas. Global AI adoption is surging, with China's DeepSeek gaining ground quickly through much lower-cost models. Token costs have dropped nearly 100% in two years, and energy efficiency in GPUs has improved drastically. With the penny going out of circulation, it might be time to start saving them as collectibles. AI development curves are moving much faster than traditional SaaS models, making this a truly disruptive moment in tech. Meta's LLaMA has been downloaded 1.2 billion times in 10 weeks, with over 100,000 derivative models created. The performance gap between open-source and closed AI models is shrinking rapidly, with DeepSeek nearly matching OpenAI on benchmarks. The AI ecosystem is becoming decentralized, much like the shift from centralized platforms to blockchain-based alternatives. Decentralization is praised for enabling free speech, innovation, and diversity of thought, unlike centralized control. Most employees are already using AI tools like ChatGPT personally, even if companies haven't officially adopted them. AI is increasing personal productivity, but there's concern it may ultimately compress work rather than improve quality of life. Over 60,000 new AI-related job titles have emerged in just two years, indicating a massive career reshuffle. Without earned knowledge, people can misuse powerful tools like AI, just as they did with nuclear weapons. The future with AI could resemble either Skynet or Star Trek, and no one truly knows which way it will go. There is risk of psychological strain and social dysfunction if people are displaced without purpose. AI tools can now bypass paywalls and summarize articles, challenging traditional media revenue models. The current wealth gap and collapse of the middle class is unprecedented, even before full-scale AI disruption. Decentralized AI (e.g., having your own local models) is seen as essential to maintain independence and avoid manipulation. A growing imbalance of more sellers than buyers suggests further downward pressure on real estate prices. Political pressure is influencing Fed policy, with previous rate cuts seen as potentially timed to impact elections. Global conflict, such as recent Middle East tensions, is having surprisingly little impact on the stock market. Investors should focus on risk management given the unpredictability and detachment from fundamentals. Andrew Jackson started writing and illustrating since age twelve and never gave up the former but (thankfully for his readers) has stopped the latter! One of his earliest memories is of watching Star Trek with his dad and falling in love with the speeding ships, bizarre aliens, and the diamond glitter of myriad stars in that eternal blackness. Even now, as he explores the strange new worlds of family, fatherhood, and a career in retail, he's never lost his love for the stars. Counting authors such as Stephen King, Iain M. Banks, and Alastair Reynolds amongst his literary influences, he revels both in reading and writing rich, tangible worlds other than our own. Born too late to watch the Apollo missions but too early for interstellar travel he must content himself with dreams and the sad knowledge that he may never know what's out there. Is there anybody out there? Why aren't they talking? On walks down leafy lanes of his native Surrey, Andrew examines these questions. He likes to think he looked at a particular tree one time and pondered its age and almost otherworldly summer greenness and so was born his winning short story, Code L1. The story itself is an exploration of the Fermi Paradox –- the hypothesis that, if we have galactic neighbours, they should have called by now. Perhaps they've seen the darker sides of humanity and they're afraid of us coming out into the stars. Or perhaps, if they could, they'd tell us why they've been so quiet. Perhaps, it's best not to know… The Contest, one of the most prestigious writing and illustrating competitions in the world, is currently in its 42nd year and is judged by some of the premier names in speculative fiction HOLLYWOOD - Mullica Hill, New Jersey author Sandra Skalski is a winner in Sandra lives with her husband in suburban New Jersey. She recently retired from a career in chemical engineering, leaving her with actual time to write. When she's not writing, you can find her in the butterfly garden or traveling with her husband. Her greatest joy is spending time with her daughter, son-in-law, and her two beautiful grandchildren. HOLLYWOOD - Savannah, Georgia artist and Savannah College of Art and Design student Ms. HeatherAnne Lee is a winner in the L. Ron Hubbard Illustrators of the Future Contest and was honored along with ten other artists and twelve writers at the Taglyan Complex in Hollywood, California on April 10th. Her art is published along with the other writers' and illustrators' stories and art in the international bestselling anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 41 which was officially released on April 22nd 2025. HeatherAnne Lee was born in 2004 in Federal Way, Washington, and has lived across the US from Hawaii to New York and Vermont. HeatherAnne, or “Heather” to her friends, now resides in Savannah, Georgia, pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Heather started drawing as soon as she could hold a crayon and never stopped, graduating from crayon to graphite to paint, and now primarily works digitally. Despite working on a screen, Heather holds to her painting knowledge, layering colors and textures on her drawing tablet, emulating traditional painting techniques in a digital medium. Heather takes much of her inspiration from the world around her, translating reality into epics and stories of dragons and knights. Heather always strives to push her work to the limit, working with clients to bring their stories to life through her illustrations. The Illustrators of the Future Contest judges include, Bob Eggleton (11 Chesley Awards and 9 Hugo Awards), Larry Elmore (Dungeons & Dragons book covers), Echo Chernik (graphic designs for major corporations including Celestial Seasonings tea packaging), Rob Prior (art for Spawn, Heavy Metal comics and Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Ciruelo (Eragon Coloring Book).

Sarah and Peter wrangle everything from the latest abortion legislation to how to purge the world of nuclear weapons (Sarah suggests we move them to the Moon – pity the poor astronauts who next land there), Star Trek and what the Federation really alluded to. Did Hollywood treat Napoleon fairly or meddle with history for its own ends? And, more happily, we cast Peter as Badger in Toad of Toad Hall with remarkable results. Frank, Jonathan, and Squeaks explore why Marvel continues to dominate over DC in the video game industry and discuss potential strategies for DC's gaming revival. Frank gives an insightful review of Pixar's Elio, highlighting its originality and emotional storytelling. The hosts also debate the ideal director for the next James Bond film, speculate on the future of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, and analyze Jon Bernthal's return as Punisher in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Plus, catch some entertaining moments, including Squeaks' memorable appearance in a Donkey Kong onesie! Timestamps and Topics: 00:00: Squeaks' Donkey Kong Onesie and Halloween Plans 01:26: Choosing Between Denis Villeneuve and Edgar Wright for Next Bond Film 06:13: Jon Bernthal Returns as Punisher in Spider-Man: Brand New Day 13:58: Russell Crowe Joins Henry Cavill in Highlander Reboot 18:31: Blumhouse Acquires the Saw Franchise 23:24: Upcoming Pixar Projects: Hoopers, Gato, and Toy Story 5 28:01: Final Season Announcement for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 34:48: Pixar's Elio Movie Review and Analysis 43:14: Marvel vs DC Gaming: How Marvel Wins and DC's Path Forward Key Takeaways: Marvel's success in gaming is driven by varied partnerships, genre diversity, and risk-taking. DC Gaming relies too heavily on Batman games; diversification is essential. Pixar's Elio delivers a fresh, emotionally rich story with strong visuals. Strategic director choices for the James Bond franchise are critical for appealing to newer audiences. Upcoming Marvel games (Wolverine, Iron Man, Marvel Tokken) maintain excitement, while DC needs fresh ideas. Memorable Quotes: “Marvel isn't afraid to experiment; DC needs to step outside the Batman box.” “It's time to engage a younger audience—fresh ideas are essential for iconic franchises.” “Superman deserves gameplay mechanics as exciting and satisfying as Spider-Man's web-swinging.” Call to Action: Enjoy the conversation? The journey through Samuel A. Peeples' early story treatment for Star Trek II continues, and this week, we're venturing into some of the most imaginative territory yet. Long before the final script for The Wrath of Khan took shape, Peeples envisioned a film that introduced entirely new characters to the Trek universe. There's a brilliant young doctor with unorthodox methods and a bold romantic interest in Dr. McCoy. Then there's Sub-Commander Thal Arctos: a towering, genetically engineered officer who's all Starfleet and part polar bear. These ideas never made it to screen, but they offer a fascinating look into the creative what-ifs of Star Trek's cinematic future. Returning guest Ben Robinson helps us unpack these bold swings, what they tell us about the era, and why some of Trek's most intriguing concepts are the ones fans have never seen... until now. Yet beneath Q's flamboyant persona and apparent disdain for "lesser beings" lies a complex relationship with humanity. While introducing himself as judge, jury, and potential executioner of our species, his actions reveal a different story.
