Millennial branding is more important today than ever before with the growing number of millennials in the workforce.   In this episode of AMP Up Your Digital Marketing, Glenn Gaudet speaks with Douglas Spencer, President of Spencer Brenneman, LLC., a brand strategy consultancy based in Boston. On the show, they discuss the growing number of millennials in the workforce, and how organizations can approach millennial branding. This refers to brands being mindful of millennials in their target market and employee population. You’ll learn:   Why you need to keep millennials in mind more than ever. How you should adjust to millennials in your workplace and your target market. How millennials prefer to communicate and what that means for you.   Today, there are already more millennials in the workforce than any other generation, but they are about to take the majority of the whole workforce on their own. Millennials will make up 75% of the workforce by 2025, according to Deloitte.

Researching businesses for an interview can be a bit ambiguous. What do you need to know and how do you find the information that you need? Having taken feedback from businesses about interviews for twenty years I know that this is what companies want you to know about their business before you go in and meet them. Here are my top five things to do: Research their website - ask questions such as: what does the business do? Where are all their offices? how many employees do they have in each location? What are their values? Not only do you not want to get caught out when they speak about their office, employees etc but by understanding their values then you have a great way to know what kind of employee they want. Some businesses practice radical candour for example, this gives you an insight into their structure, the way they want to treat people and how the team works as a whole. Get this information so you’re ready to tailor your answers to their questions. Who are the key people in the business? CEO, general leadership team names are important, who are they and why are they there? LinkedIn can help if you’re not sure who the key players are. They usually have their bios on their website but also check for their names on twitter to see if anyone is talking about them or the business. This gives you some great insights too. Check on google to see if there has been any recent news about the business, you can look on their website as well for any potential press but many businesses don’t have that info on their website. What’s happening with the business and what does this mean for you? Especially now, this is important, the pandemic has shown some key flaws in a lot of businesses. What would this mean for you? Company culture and mission is super important to research. In fact, a Millennial Branding study says 43 percent of HR professionals believe cultural fit is the most important quality job seekers can have during the hiring process. If thats the case, knowing what is important to their culture can help you answer the questions really well. What are there products and services and who are their clients? If they sell online, find out what the top three things are that they sell. Who do they provide a service for and what does their company provide. If you don’t know, you can’t answer any questions in a confident way. If you can’t find that information out, make sure YOU ask them about what their top products are. You’ll find out how engaged HR are in the business as well. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/henriettabarker/message

He has been recognized on lists of fascinating, high-impact thought leaders, like Inc.’s and Forbes’ “30 Under 30” and many others .Dan and Stew talk about the use and abuse of technology. They explore how technology’s promise as a vehicle for connectivity hasn’t been fully realized because it paradoxically produces loneliness. For instance, remote workers are harder to retain; they tend to be less committed to their organizations because they lack sufficient in-person human contact. They also discuss technology’s upside; how it can be used to increase efficiency and to help people build communities online so they don’t feel so isolated. This has been an especially effective tool for people who reach out for help by making themselves vulnerable and sharing their struggles, including with mental health problems. Dan describes some of the practical ideas and tools from his research, including The Work Connectivity Index, a diagnostic companies use to assess whether and how people do indeed feel isolated and alone. In this modern day and age, technology has created more lonely people. More and more work in isolation, which is not doing much good on how we can influence the society. On the business side, it affects the teamwork, productivity, and overall environment. People are becoming less connected and failing in building true relationships. Dan Schawbel, New York Times bestselling author, partner and research director at Future Workplace, and the founder of both Millennial Branding and WorkplaceTrends.com, believes that true relationships are built through human connection relating it to the workplace. Dr. Nancy Irwin is a psychologist at Seasons in Malibu and she’s a former stand-up comedian who also is a hypnotherapist. As a highly sought-after addiction therapist, she takes us deep into the process of hypnotherapy. She helps people overcome addictive behaviors, recover from sexual abuse and other traumas. Talking about the hypnotic trance as well as health, she shows us the power of mindfulness and seeing ourselves beyond our fishbowl. Love the show? Shep Hyken sits down with Dan Schawbel to discuss how to use technology as a bridge to a strong customer and employee connection. Top Takeaways:We are addicted and reliant on technology, so much that it gets in the way of building real human connections. Human connections matter.Use technology to remove tedious tasks you don’t want to do, and let it lead you to places you can connect in a human way.If you’re in a business meeting or networking event, put your technology away and be present with the people you’re with.Customer service operations are increasingly reliant on technology to scale, save money and remove human error. This is a big mistake because the human touch will always be important, regardless of what technology does.85% of the global workforce is disengaged. To engage your employees, create an experience where they do meaningful work with people who are supportive of them.Consumers want options to connect with you and flexibility with how they interact with your company. You have to meet them where they are and how they want to interact with you. It’s less about you and more about them, their choices and how they want to do business. You must be empathetic towards what customers and employees are going through. People are suffering and are challenged in many ways that you may not physically see.About: Dan Schawbel is the research director of Future Workplace and managing partner of Millennial Branding. How to Promote Yourself to the Top How would you feel if I asked  you to talk about how great you are? My guess is, if you're like the majority of people in the world, you wouldn't feel very comfortable. According to Dan Schawbel, author of Promote Yourself and Me 2.0, this attitude of feeling ashamed to talk about your success, or ashamed to show people the value you add, will not benefit you in the 21st century. In fact - it's ONLY those who are willing to tell or show people everything they're capable of - who are willing to self-promote - that will succeed over time. Why? Because otherwise you'll be ignored. And if you're being ignored, someone else will take your spot, your promotion, your pay raise, etc. This is the reality of the modern world and it's something we need to get used to. That's why I wanted to talk to Dan today, an authority on the subject of selling your personal value. Dan is the Managing Partner of Millennial Branding, a Gen Y research and consulting firm. He is also the New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestselling author sof Promote Yourself: The New Rules For Career Success and the #1 international bestselling book, Me 2.0: 4 Steps to Building Your Future. Dan's had a lot of success in life, and as you listen to his story, you'll realize 2 things: One: he was given nothing - he had to work for everything he has. Two: Dan's not ashamed to talk about his value or what he's capable of achieving - and that's exactly why he's gotten where he has in life. So check out today's interview and leave a comment below to let me know what you think! What Dan Schawbel and I Talk About: How to make yourself indispensable to your company Dan's personal story of having NO connections and no resources when he started out, and how he took life into his own hands and created the results he wanted How to create a niche for yourself (and why you need to in the 21st century) How to brand yourself (and why this is so important) Why promotion SHOULD be shameless (this may be the most important less of the interview...just wait till you hear what Dan has to say about this) Quotables from Dan Schawbel's Interview: “Luck is driven by work ethic and strategic position.” Where You Can Find Dan Schawbel: danschawbel.com Promote Yourself Me 2.0 --- If you enjoyed today's podcast, please leave a review on iTunes here.
