Consider these thought-provoking questions about the most important individuals in your life. Are you clinging to them out of fear? Or are you nurturing your relationships with love and mindfulness? Know the difference between unhealthy attachment and genuine care, it's natural to love your family and friends, but you must also be prepared to release them if needed. Listeners are invited to engage in a reflective exercise, considering the actions they've taken—or would take—to maintain these vital connections. Do not abandon your need for companionship. Highlighting the importance of community even among monks and nuns, you are encouraged to think critically about your attachments and to cultivate mindfulness in your interactions. This exploration includes inviting you to contemplate relationships that you avoid and the reasons behind your aversion, considering the emotional costs of such avoidance. Answer this powerful question: if you had one last opportunity to speak to someone, who would it be?

Since we are in mental awareness month, I thought about approaching this exact topic here on the channel. Normally I wouldn't approach such high and dense topics since I only feel like I generalize a lot, even if the information comes from literature, articles, reviews, institutions, and international organizations that deal with the issue. We explored what does Mental Health mean for us (as I asked you), some definitions of the most commonly used terms (such as anxiety, gaslighting), some trends in mental health awareness between 1993 and 2023 (30 years), and some applicable methods on how to make our day better if we feel down or in a bad mood. Before I go, here's the most common definition I could find about Mental health, as defined in the field of psychology: "Mental health refers to a person's emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It encompasses how individuals think, feel, and behave, and it influences how they handle stress, relate to others, and make choices." I hope this episodes lives up to the expectations! Thank you all for being understanding and empathic

Why Mindfulness is so important for the health of athletes Today we are joined on the Brain Booster with Luke Doherty who has been doing some amazing work in sport applying the principles of Mindfulness Luke Doherty trained as an elite rugby player and was capped for England under-18's. He earned a degree and Postgrad diploma in Law as well as advanced-level mindfulness training qualifications from Breathworks and the Oxford University Mindfulness Centre. He's since been dedicated to devising and delivering bespoke mindfulness programmes for some of the UK's leading athletes and forward thinking executives, working with Premiership rugby and football players, Olympians and Team GB athletes. His innovative approaches using mindfulness have received national media coverage and he's part of a consortium which advises the Dept. of Health and Social Care. Luke has lived an extraordinarily varied life part of which was when he spent six years in a Buddhist Mindfulness Centre We had a very important conversation about mental health in competitive sport and how Mindfulness can be such a valuable tool to stay connected to what is truly important to you There is so much pressure these days on athletes to perform Luke talked about some harrowing examples of players he knew in rugby who had committed suicide as a result of the anxiety created in the quest to win We looked deeply into how mindfulness can be applied in high pressure situations in sport to allow the athlete to stay connected to their true values How to deal with the game ‘after the game' What do you do to settle the experience you have just had in your mind to allow you to keep going forwards to experience pleasure in the game How the ‘body' can let you know if you are off track with your life and your purpose The mind body connection and how your body ‘keeps the score' The amazing way that Luke has combined boxing and mindfulness to help young people in the community The huge value in spending time mindfully in nature The incredible value of a morning routine that really resonates with you at a deep level A really wide ranging and fascinating conversation around mindfulness and how it can be applied on a very practical level to get the most from your game To find out more about Luke and his work go to https://www.mindfulpeakperformance.com/about To get a copy of the new ‘Neuro Putting' program with Dr Izzy Justice and Karl Morris go to https://themindfactor.net/shop-new/ To book your Mind Factor workshop get in touch with us at www.themindfactor.com

In this little mindful moment, specifically scheduled for the New Year, I talk about losing weight. It's a big conversation. How to lose weight - if you Googled that, you'd be there all day scrolling through the options.I want to talk about how to do it with lasting success. I also start the conversation with the fact that it is fine to want to lose weight (despite a lot of social media conversation to the contrary) but I do have certain caveats for you to think about. Much of my thinking is based on research done by the National Weight Registry in the US and from the National Centre for Eating Disorders who specialise in the treatment of weight loss and obesity, as well as EDs. But many of us were brought up to believe that it is the other peoples responsibility to make us feel good or worse etc..The problem with that way of thinking is that we can't control the actions of other people. Manipulation, threats and ultimatums work for shorter periods of time. In this episode, I talk about why it is important to take responsbility of our own thoughts and actions because only you, knows what you want or how you want to feel. Our priorities around work can shift a lot after having a baby. Which is not to say that our jobs are no longer important, just that they may no longer have top billing. And even if they do remain high on the priority list, the question of how to manage work with sleep deprivation can be a tricky one to solve. Chelsea Pottenger is the founder and director of EQ Minds, a company that helps businesses address mental wellbeing for their workforces. Chelsea talks about how we can cope with sleep deprivation, and also bring mindfulness to the work we do after we have kids. The meditations for kids referred to in this episode include: Calm Bedtime Explorers See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
The music business is always changing, and despite moments of success, there will always be obstacles we have to face as songwriters. I'm honored to welcome Lisa McEwen onto the show to chat all about jumping songwriting hurdles in a mindful way. The quote for this episode is by Wendy Starland: “The people who come out on top in music business have persistence. It is key! Fall down seven times; stand up eight. It takes a lot of courage and an unwavering belief in yourself and your abilities.” Lisa and I talk all about the many obstacles we have to overcome and share advice for how to do so in a mindful way. We discuss overcoming shiness and finding the courage to put ourselves out there, imposter syndrome and dealing with thoughts and feelings of unworthiness, rejection and getting ignored, self-awareness, having supportive people around us, and more. This is truly an outstanding conversation that is full of priceless gems. Through sharing our own experiences, Lisa and I paint a realistic picture of what it's like to be a songwriter. We hope our honesty and advice empowers you to jump the hurdles in your path as you continue on your songwriting journey. Are you enjoying Write on Track? On occasion of Ajahn Karuniko's visit, Ajahn Dhammasiha talks about the foundation of Cittaviveka Monastery in 1979. Cittaviveka, in Sussex, England, is the first monastery of the tradition of Ajahn Chah in a Western country. Ajahn Dhammasiha relates crucial events of its establishment, as described in the book "The Chithurst Story" by George Sharp. It required great courage and dedication from George Sharp as secretary of the 'English Sangha Trust', and very hard work and sacrifice by the sangha and countless volunteers, to turn a derelict English country manor into beautiful Chithurst monastery with a thriving community of monks, nuns and lay guests. You can read the details in the free PDF version of book here: https://amaravati.org/dhamma-books/the-chithurst-story-before-beyond/ There's also a BBC documentary on youtube, filmed in the early days of Cittaviveka and containing footage of Ajahn Chah during his visit there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-K_AFgRgRu4 (this version contains Thai and Chinese subtitles, and is much better visual quality (720p) than the other versions available on youtube.) There's another BBC Documentary, "The Mindful Way" from 1979, about life at Ajahn Chah's monastery Wat Nong Pah Pong (unfortunately only in 240p): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GOQp0fTIo4Info about Dhammagiri here:www.dhammagiri.net

If you were heading down the street and someone tried to mug you, what would you do?Maybe instinct would kick in and you'd run, or turn and try to fight them off.Maybe you'd have an instantaneous mindfulness check-in and think, "non-harming, non-harming" - I shouldn't go after them.Maybe - just maybe - you'd whack them over the head with your umbrella. From a mindful lawyering perspective, is there a time and a place for that, too?

In this episode I share with you three mindful concepts you can apply to any stressful or challenging situation, but I focus especially on how you can practice these concepts in the workplace.
It's the first episode of 2022 so I wanted to start with a guest who's all about good vibes and mindfulness. I'm aware that January can be this month where we all feel like we *have* to do a detox or take on an entirely new regime, not to mention have a resolutions list that would impress on social media. So I wanted to just ease into the year with a guest who could provide thoughtful solutions on how to get started with affirmations. But that's not all Patricia San Pedro has to offer. Florida-based Patricia San Pedro is the Korean-American author of Face Fitness, a book that contains 50 simple exercises we can do to get toned and glowing skin, as well as the founder of Sunina Skin and she's a mum of four. I first found Patricia on Instagram sharing facial exercises and since then I've regularly tried to commit to her easy to follow gua sha routines. I wanted to invite Patricia on to find out more about building a beauty brand during a pandemic and how she juggles a busy family life with business and content creation, so in this episode I ask her about challenging moments in her life, and what it was that instilled the concept of mindfulness into her daily life. If you head over to @beautymepodcast on Instagram you'll see Patricia demonstrating her two favourite facial exercises that we can all do at home. You can also follow Patricia @patriciasanpedro_ and check her brand @suninaskin out too. Please tag me when you're listening and as always, do please review, like, subscribe, follow – all that good stuff! See you next time. When you love someone with addiction it might be thoughts like: Why are they acting this way? Where are they? Are they drinking/doing drugs again? Are they ok? Why do they pick fights with me? What else can I do to help them? What if my boundaries are too rigid and something terrible happens? Your brain gets hijacked by thoughts like these. Mindfulness is an ancient practice that moves from mindlessness and runaway thoughts of worry, concern and rumination to mindfulness and the distance between the thinking and the thought. What is interesting about mindfulness is that it is not just mediation; it isn't about wiping your mind clear of thoughts. It's not just relaxation - although it is calming, it's not a pose in yoga. Find out more listen to the episode or head to my website for full show notes.
Kim's guest this week is Chantal Doriott-a mindfulness coach and teacher of meditation. Chantal's story is inspiring and encouraging for women of all ages! Her message to all of us is "be true to yourself-your life is about YOU!" She also coined a new favorite term-YES list! Listen to find out more!
