Telling the Truth for Women on Oneplace.com

Have you planned your funeral? Few of us have. We like to think of death as something far off in the future. Then once we do acknowledge death, sometimes we fall into "You Only Live Once" thinking and fill our time with whatever pleases us. But God never promised us a long life! He has our days numbered, and only He knows when that number is up and we'll be called to be with Him. In this message, Jill Briscoe cautions us to avoid the "Minute Trap" and offers us a better perspective on what this life really is and how we should use the time God has given us. This week, we're unpacking the surprisingly trendy world of underconsumption. Is it a Gen Z TikTok trend? A millennial coping mechanism? A wise old soul's secret weapon? The answer is YES to all of the above. In this episode, we cover:How to avoid overspending this holiday season on food and gifts. We even share our hard-won lessons on dealing with impulsive buying, managing the expectations of our loved ones, and teaching our son to approach spending with intention (no, we didn't always get it right, but boy, have we learned!)YOLO vs. YONO: Say goodbye to "You Only Live Once" and hello to "You Only Need One." We explore the global shift towards intentional purchasing, and how it's impacting everything from fashion to finances. (And yes, we do discuss the implications of the impending tariffs on that Zara haul you've been eyeing…)The Price vs. The Cost: That cute little $25 item from TikTok Shop? It might cost you more in stress, maintenance, and anxiety than you think. We discuss the psychological (and very real!) costs of buying the "nice" stuff.Hedonic Adaptation: The science of why buying more doesn't always lead to more happiness. We are not our things and learning this will actually save you money and the planet.Key takeaways (because your time is valuable):Underconsumption is a lifestyle, not a trendRe-evaluate your values. I've known Shane Simek for more than 20 years. He's a fellow comic book fan and a long-time collector of original artwork in the form of the commissions he gets at the various conventions we go to. I did not anticipate his choice for favorite comic.     * This episode includes an excerpt of "You Only Live Once" by The Strokes      Join our Patreon community!  https://www.patreon.com/randomactsofcomicspodcast

Inspired by this, Leigh adopted a "You Only Live Once" (YOLO) mindset, emphasizing the importance of gratitude and appreciating life's moments. Land art, the movement which emerged in the 1960s and 70s with artists such as Robert Smithson, Nancy Holt, and Michael Heizer erecting monumental works in far-flung destinations, is widely regarded for its engagement with the environment and its elements. These remarkable installations are crafted in concert with the Earth, meant to evolve as sun, storms, and seasons weather them continuously over time. But what if you homed in on the core of this concept, creating sweeping land artworks in ways and places where they would be truly temporary, imprints made for a moment before disappearing back into the Earth? This is the crux of California-based artist Jim Denevan's dynamic practice, which involves interacting with topographies and terrains to craft ephemeral compositions that play with the impermanence of our ever-changing world. Since the mid-1990s, Denevan has traversed the globe creating unfathomably massive works in sand, earth, and ice, often using no more than a rake, stick, or even the soles of his feet. He has etched miles-long Fibonacci circles in Siberia's frozen Lake Baikal, drawn shore-spanning spirals in San Francisco's Ocean Beach, and sculpted concentric rings of sand mounds at international public art exhibitions Desert X AlUla in Saudi Arabia and Manar Abu Dhabi. His work has been featured in institutional shows at MoMA PS1, the Peabody Essex Museum, and the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, as well as the Oscar long-listed documentary Man in the Field, which explored Denevan's artistic career and his culinary trajectory as the founder of Outstanding in the Field, a roving restaurant set where food is sourced to connect diners with the origins of their meals. This spring, Artnet collaborated with Denevan on an original project, titled “You Only Live Once,” showcasing the all-new 2024 Lexus GX alongside the artist bringing to life an incredible land artwork in Lake Harper north of Los Angeles. Taking the shape of the universal number “1,” the more than quarter-mile piece is a dramatic testament to making the most of our time on this Earth by confidently pursuing our curiosities and drive for adventure.

She talks about the power of positivity (you feel it when you are even in a room with her for 5 secs), the beauty of taking one day at a time and the truth in what is famously called YOLO today (You Only Live Once). She also talks about the strength in knowing that there is no impossible, there is a solution for everything even if it may not be the perfect one. Her story about coming out stronger on the other end after a tough beginning as a mom is a testament of how Limitless this amazing lady is. In this episode, Danielle delves into the five essential actions you must cease immediately to uncover joy, happiness, and fulfillment in your financial life, whether in business or your personal affairs. She begins by addressing a notable study from 2010, which observed that day-to-day happiness increased with rising income up to a certain threshold. However, an opposing study conducted in 2021 revealed that happiness continued to climb with income levels well beyond that initial limit. This apparent contradiction underscores the intricate relationship between money and our intrinsic needs, all interwoven with our money mindset.   The Hierarchy of Needs   Danielle draws inspiration from Maslow's hierarchy of needs, a concept suggesting that humans possess a structured hierarchy of needs, motivated to fulfill them in a hierarchical manner. The foundational needs start at the bottom, encompassing physiological essentials like food, water, shelter, and sleep. These basic necessities are intricately linked to one's financial situation, with a clear correlation between meeting these needs and financial stability. Progressing upward, safety needs include personal and financial security, health, and protection from harm. Financial security serves as a prerequisite for ascending the hierarchy and reaching one's fullest potential. Following that, a sense of belonging emerges, with ties to money as it relates to the community and connections within one's business.   The upper tiers of the hierarchy—esteem needs and self-actualization—are areas where significant attention is often focused. Esteem needs center around earning respect from others, cultivating self-confidence, and achieving a sense of accomplishment. Money plays a pivotal role here, influencing how we are perceived and impacting self-esteem. At the apex of the pyramid lies self-actualization, encompassing personal growth, creativity, and a sense of purpose. This is an arena where business owners frequently invest substantial time and effort as they strive to attain their full potential in their unique entrepreneurial pursuits.   Understanding these needs at their deepest level is crucial for comprehending their intricate connections with our money mindset.   The Five Things You Need to Stop Doing   1. Stop Saying You're Not Enough: Reframe negative self-talk that undermines self-esteem and self-confidence.   2. Stop Ignoring Your Personal Budget: Establish a personal budget to meet the basic needs of yourself and your family, providing the essential foundation for financial security.   3. Stop Ignoring Your Money Mindset: Recognize the fundamental role of mindset in your entrepreneurial journey. Understand and heal your money mindset, utilizing it in conjunction with financial tools to pave the path toward self-actualization.   4. Stop Trading Short-Term Happiness for Long-Term Fulfillment: Resist the allure of immediate gratification in favor of long-term goals that promise sustained security and happiness. Avoid trading short-term dopamine rushes for enduring contentment.   5. Stop Living the YOLO Lifestyle: Shift your mindset away from a "You Only Live Once" approach, maintaining focus on your long-term objectives and avoiding distractions.   What Can You Do About These Five Things?   So what can you do to step away from these bad habits? When we stop saying I'm not enough, wonderful things can happen so start reframing those negative thoughts. Episode 110 of Entrepreneur Money Stories does a deep dive into this topic. Secondly, stop ignoring your personal budget and plan out a budget so that you know what you need to survive and thrive. If you haven't set a personal budget before, click here for a template. A personal budget is also going to help you in your business too- it takes the guesswork out of how much you should pay yourself in your business. Healing your money mindset is a common thread through all of the above action steps. Understanding and healing your money mindset gives you as an entrepreneur the tools you need to ramp up your business to meet your self-actualization journey.    Key Points [03:20] The hierarchy of needs  [10:42] The five things you need to stop doing right now [15:54] What can you do about these five things? It taught me some incredible lessons and pushed me towards a path in life that finally feels truly authentic. -I've lost friends, I've gained friends. I've learned how to deal with a life-threatening long-term health diagnosis. I've been reminded time and time again of the power of the tools I teach to my clients (and use myself) when it comes to getting through challenging times. We definitely question the anatomy of the Chimera. Sorry, King Amisodarus, but you kind of had it coming. Bellerophon seems like an interesting hero, and we can thank him for killing the Chimera. How did Rick Riordan depict Echidna? We wonder if they'll change her appearance for the show. Are Kampê and Echidna related? Echidna may have stepped out on Typhon to have the Sphinx. Believe it or not, Echidna and the Chimera are one of the only monsters not defeated and sent to Tartarus in all of the Camp Half-Blood Chronicles. How is the Chimera depicted in Percy Jackson and the Olympians? Do monsters adapt their appearances to better scare modern demigods? Mark us down for not wanting to go up against a monster with human intelligence. Chimeras are totally a real thing in the science world. We're always gonna shout out Teen Wolf, and this week we get to do it because they also had chimeras on the show. Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian discussion (00:38:58) It's that time of the week—let's discuss Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian chapter 6. Do you think you'd like Shadow Travel as much as Percy? We need some little monster Beanie Babies from Disney now. Luke's mom is a little scary, especially her eyes. How does this whole Oracle thing work, and is this why the Oracle in the attic is just a dead body? What did we think of Hestia and what she was trying to impart on Percy? Did you realize we've seen her before? If you didn't already love Nico, how could you resist now? Hestia really is a different kind of goddess, and we love that. Paul and Mrs. O'Leary on the same page is just too much adorableness for us to process coherently. Poor Sally has to make a huge decision, and we're kind of glad she's hesitating? The Empire State Building lighting up blue in our world means SO much more now. Feedback (01:13:26) We get a wonderful email from Jubilee, who gives us a What If scenario from Lightning Thief. Nephele lets us know the Iliad and Odyssey mention that the gods have their own language, and we definitely want to know more! Mac also wonders if the symbols will transform into numbers on the flags on the cabins. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 52, where we'll come up with some ideas for a Percy Jackson board game. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz. Prophecy Radio episode #46 tackles our What If…? scenarios for Battle of the Labyrinth, which asks how the books would change if one small detail were different. Karen and Kristen also discuss all the latest news, including several superb surprises from Percy Jackson's birthday, as well as begin their journey through Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian with chapter 1. New episodes of Prophecy Radio air weekly, and all ages are welcome to tune in. News and Updates (00:02:01) Celebrating Percy Jackson's birthday was SO much fun. We also got some great presents, like this photo of the trio from the official Percy Jackson and the Olympians account. Rick also put up a blog post on August 18. We discuss the fact that, by design, Percy Jackson is perpetually 17—at least for now. What did all of his friends get him for his birthday? Can you believe THE Empire State Building lit up blue for Percy? Walker's mom is basically Sally Jackson. Cursed Carnival and Other Calamities is back on the NYT bestsellers list, joining Daughter of the Deep and Percy Jackson and the Olympians. (Click on those links to listen to our discussions of the two books.) Rick had some thoughts on Beast, and Kristen totally agrees. Join the Goodreads giveaway for You Only Live Once, David Bravo by Mark Oshiro. Have you met Serwa Boateng yet? Okay, is it a firefly or a vampire? What If…? season 4 (Battle of the Labyrinth) (00:21:15) Let's kick off season 4 of What If…? with our Battle of the Labyrinth scenarios. Karen is wondering what if…Grover had refused Pan's blessing? This was so sad, she almost didn't want to think about it! Kristen wants to know what if…Percy had never met Rachel Elizabeth Dare? Is there another human who could see through the Mist as well as Rachel? Next, Karen is curious: What if…Bianca had never convinced Nico to trust Percy? Is Nico basically the White Ranger of the demigods? Now Kristen is wondering what if…Quintus hadn't helped Luke? Would this have ultimately led to Rachel's death? Bonus question: What if…Luke hadn't survived Kronos' posession? Bonus question: What if…Percy had stayed in Ogygia? Our listeners also write in with questions of their own! Rachel wonders what if…Annabeth found out about Camp Jupiter early? Poseidon Boy wants to know what if…Annabeth had never met Luke and Thalia? Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian discussion (00:54:32) We're changing things up by doing one chapter at a time, so let's discuss Percy Jackson and Last Olympian chapter 1. Lukronos is the worst ship name ever. When does this story take place in relation to Battle of the Labyrinth. How are we feeling about Percy and Rachel Elizabeth Dare? It's only chapter 1, and we're already starting the war! Blackjack is always a good time. And very convenient to have around. Were Percy and Beckendorf willing to kill any demigods or mortals onboard the Princess Andromeda? Shout-out to Paul Blofis! It was maybe not the smartest idea to take on Lukronos single-handedly. Again. Why wasn't getting hit with the scythe instadeath? We also learn that Kronos is basically invulnerable. Note: A saltwater shower is the best cure for being stuck in a time warp. Does Percy feel guilty about letting Ethan Nakamura go free time and time again? This book really starts off with a bang (too soon??), and we were shocked Beckendorf died so early. Who's the spy at Camp Half-Blood? We're pretty sure it's not Annabeth. Last Olympian death toll: 1 Feedback (01:23:09) Henry writes in to ask us if we've seen all the set photos and videos as of late. Thanks for listening, and tune in next time for episode 47, where we'll do a Deep Dive on Dionysus. This episode's hosts are: Karen Rought and Kristen Kranz.
