Hey guys and welcome back to my podcast!! Today, we have a very special guest to recap the first 3 episodes of #traitorsus with me! My BFF since middle school, Sophia! Traitors is a game full of deception, filmed in a castle in the Scottish Highlands. 3 people are traitors and 18 are faithfuls. It's up to the faithfuls to figure out who the traitors are and vote them out before it's too late. Because, each night the traitors will be secretly eliminating a faithful, until there is none left or until they get exposed. There is also challenges each week where players get a chance to earn prize money for the end of the game, and find shields to protect themselves from elimination. I love the show, it's so good!! I got early access to the first 3 episodes, so I watched them with Sophia in New York last weekend, when I was visiting home and here are our initial thoughts! I will be doing another recap on my channel later today under the LIVE tab with Connor and Alexis that's more in depth and will be doing it every week, when the new episodes drop! As we say goodbye to 2023 and ring in the New Year, this week's classic episode is all about the novel. Part 1: Feeling isolated in her new job as a particle accelerator operator at Fermilab, Cindy Joe finds comfort in the friendship of her unconventional pet. This story originally aired on July 27, 2018 in an episode titled “Loneliness: Stories about finding friends”. Part 2: Actor Gail Thomas is invited to take part in a study testing mushrooms as treatment for depression in cancer survivors. This story originally aired on Dec. 1, 2017 in an episode titled “Psychotropic Substances: Stories about altered states”. Cindy Joe is an engineering physicist at Fermilab, America's particle physics and accelerator laboratory. She got her bachelor's degree in physics and became a licensed senior nuclear reactor operator at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. After starting at Fermilab, she worked as a particle accelerator operator for seven years before taking her current role with several experiments studying neutrinos, tiny particles that might hold the answers to some of the universe's biggest mysteries. Cindy is a frequent and deeply passionate contributor to Fermilab's educational outreach programs and has spoken to audiences from elementary school students to members of Congress. Gail Thomas has several resumes: writer/actor/teacher/filmmaker/lawyer. She is a Moth StorySLAM winner and has performed with RISK!, Sideshow Goshko, the Liar Show. She teaches for the Story Studio. Voiceover credits include David Letterman, Beavis and Butthead and Angelo Rules. Her short comedy, My BFF, rated 95% funny on Funny or Die and audience favorite at New Filmmakers. As a speechwriter for the Tribeca Film Festival and the Gotham Awards, her words were uttered by Oscar winners and fancy people with great clothes. Gail is currently working on her fashion sense. I couldn't wait to share with y'all the things we did, what we learned, and of course, we shared how we fueled our bodies on these six days away from home! And as Coach JJ and I do, we filled this episode up, so stay tuned for Part 2 where we go into the new Trim Healthy product ESSENTIAL as well as us gearing up for a camping trip! My BFF's sister, mother of three, Urbana born and raised farmer's daughter turned Chicago suburbanite talks candidly about what happens when motherhood just doesn't “click.” The maternal instinct and excitement that is glorified is replaced with feelings of inadequacy and anxiety. Listen as this eloquent and self-aware mom talks about panic attacks, therapy, medication, pregnancy, asking for and receiving help, postpartum lows, viewing a trip to Target as a win and ultimately valuing having a family over your need for control and calm. Lastly, Katherine discusses how her father's failing health and ultimate passing played into these early days of motherhood when perceived joy was replaced with suffocating grief. .......................................................................................... Heya folks! My BFF and Editor Basil and I had a great conversation about Salt when I visited this weekend. The audio quality: not so great. So I'm enbarassed about it, but like all good conversations it can't be repeated, so re-recording isn't an option. Also I forgot my music, so I had to post this once I got home. Experiment....not entirely a success. That said, it may sound a bit wonky, but we have some good stuff in here about that item we use so often in magical practice, salt. Get ready to adjust your vollume, and enjoy!
After overindulging in alcohol and lacking self-respect, a young woman embarks on a journey of healthy indulgence to reclaim her pride and dignity. "It's the pride and the confidence that you have in yourself and a feeling that one is behaving with honor and dignity - that's what I want to behave." I was in college and eager to party. My BFF and I asked some cute guys to a hayride, and I brought Jack Daniels and apple cider. We got drunk and even took ecstasy. I was so out of control I blacked out and couldn't even remember the night. I thought being drunk would make guys like me more, but I was wrong. Through this experience I learned about the dangers of overindulging in alcohol and now practice healthy indulgence. In this episode, you will learn the following: 1. What does healthy indulgence look like? 2. How do you look back on your drunk self? 3. What are the practices to ensure healthier indulgence? I want to support you and take time to hear what you're struggling with, what you desire and what your life would like if you make the changes. Let's set up a 1:1 time on me. DM or email me. This week we're celebrating International Day of The Girl (Oct.11th!) with some of the women trailblazing through Web3 and using the power of blockchain tech to foster opportunity and safety for other girls. Alona Shevchenko helped create UKRAINE DAO earlier this year to help aid in the fight against Russian tyranny. Now, this same model is being used to help the protestors fighting in Iran, after 22 year old Mahsa Amini was arrested for not wearing a Hijab and later killed in custody. Maral Pourkazemi is making her blockchain debut with the IRANIAN DAO to give a microphone to women on the ground and help fund change. Juliette Blake joins the show to share why she's taking her Web2 brand Miss O and Friends and bringing it to Web3. Miss O Cool Girls is working to lower the barrier to entry for young girls through education and inclusion. They're building educational platforms and creating safe spaces for girls to witness and participate the future of the web. My BFF cofounder Jaime Schmidt to learn about how she formed this network of powerful women to learn and grow in Web3 through collaboration and camaraderie. Honeybadges is an NFT project with a purpose. G.D Anderson was disheartened to see how much money in charity work gets lost in red tape and fees. The blockchain is cutting out the middlemen and stretching donations further. Honeybadges give you an emblem that represents you while supporting a certain cause. “We'll be besties forever!” “No matter what happens, we'll stay close.” “You're my BFF and nothing will change that!” We said it. We meant it. But life happens, and it gets in the way of even the closest friendship. And sometimes it hurts—a lot. But we CAN remain close—as we talked about in last week's episode—by examining our expectations. My BFF, Miriam Conner, joins me to share her philosophy on friendship—the “No Pressure” friendship. Specifically, we delve into: How to maintain strong friendships while also adjusting our expectations as our priorities shift. What developmental psych research on preschoolers and empathy can teach us about adult friendships! Three options for how to respond when a friend disappoints us. Personal stories of when we both found ourselves needing to cut friends out of our lives. How to handle it when a friend cancels plans at the last minute. What to do when a friend changes dramatically. How to politely disengage from a friend who has unreasonable expectations. The parallels between dating/marriage and lifelong friendships. Why some women LOVE drama in their friendships. Join us to learn how to cultivate “no pressure friendships” with your besties! My BFF of thirty years, bestselling author and professional tarot card reader, Margot Berwin reads my cards for the first time in two years. I want to find out from her/the cards how my art career is doing. I am frustrated with my career, like every other artist and in this session, I begin to see that it's not always my actual career, it's my emotional problems getting in my way, and things are much better than I have internalized. There's really good thinking about creative careers and a view into my blind spots. You likely have some of the same issues. I felt SO MUCH better after this session. Also, Margot sees a big opportunity in store for me in October too, stay tuned. Found family, partners, true-blue friends: it's all about the groups of people who claim us, warm our hearts, and have our backs no matter what, who help us feel that we belong.https://www.confessionsofaclosetromantic.comRemember the TV show Queer as Folk? It originated in the UK, and there was a US version too. Its group of friends fits this trope so well. My high school crush/date came out to me on prom night so I felt a bit like Daphne in this clip: happy and proud for him, but a bit disappointed, too. The TV show Friends is all about this trope, too, of course. My BFF loves motorcycle club romances, which embody this trope as well. All the Tropes on band of brothers is great, and tvtropes.org also explores a band of brothers trope off-shoot called True Companions.Four Weddings and a Funeral is still charming and touching, with one of the best “we belong together” found-family examples in any rom-com.Bromance Book Club is the first book in the Bromance Book Club series by Lyssa Kay Adams. Its band of brothers is romance gold—needless to say, Netflix snapped up the rights so the story will be coming to a tiny screen near you sometime soon. Daniel is a steady, wise and affectionate presence in the Loveless Brothers series by Roxie Noir, and his story, Best Fake Fiancé is one of my favorites, along with Levi’s and Eli's stories.Jo Beverley’s Malloren series is one of my top favorite romance series ever. Devilish, the oldest Malloren brother Lord Rothgar's story, is one romance I can happily read over and over.Tessa Dare’s Spindle Cove series centers on an English village in the Regency era with blue stockings and shy, spirited women who don't quite fit in as its residents, along with the group of aristocratic men who love them. They're full of wit and whimsy, the perfect place to start reading historical romance. The Beautiful series by writing duo Christina Lauren is quite a ride: spicy hot and kinky (unlike their more recent books) with "naughty" tropes that ratchet up the fantasy.I plan to explore this fantastic series in an upcoming episode, but for now, let me say that Chloe Liese's Bergman brothers series has this trope in spades and it's another, new top favorite romance series.
Last week we asked our community to share about their best friends. We laughed and cried over the responses, and now we're sharing a few on this week's podcast. HIGHLIGHTS FROM THIS WEEK'S SHOW: Jessica had us near tears with her uplifting story and friendship with Pepin. Terri's best friend is Cate, and we had to giggle over their poop updates. They're definitely Grace & Frankie material! Joann also shared that her best friend is her husband of 37 years. She suggests that you should make sure your significant other is your best friend(...but we think sometimes a man can't handle all we got to talk about.) Atta Ur told us about his best friend Jess. Because of their busy schedules, they do not meet very frequently but whenever they do, they eat all the junk food in the world and call it a ‘greet and cheat day' -- which we love! If you'd like to be featured on next week's episode, let us know if you've experienced a "best friend break-up" -- share how it made you feel, what happened, how you got over it, or anything else you think relates to the topic! For years, the month of December was my month of debauchery. My BFF (the voice of false self-compassion) ran the show. After months of being told what I “should” do by my Monger in December, I could throw all the rules out the window. December was the one month out of the year that I gave myself permission to not listen to the shaming voice of the Monger: I gave myself the free pass of December because I knew come January, my Monger would drop the hammer and criticize me into submission. I believed, on January 1st (well, 2nd really because on the 1st, I was still recovering from all the December merriment), I would magically become a new person. Someone who loved vegetables and hated sugar, desired to work out every day, easily abstained from drinking, and uber-productive. I am sure you could guess how that went. Long story short, come mid-January, my Monger had a field day with all the ways I was failing. This all-or-nothing thinking ran my life for years---decades really. But something changed, thanks to the practice of self-loyalty. December isn’t a magical month of no consequences anymore. Instead, I have days where I overeat sugar and drink too much caffeine and days where I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables. And my worthiness isn’t linked to any of it. Whether I eat five sugar cookies or five carrots, I am still me: broken, imperfect, smart, funny, overly-sensitive, loyal Nancy Jane Smith. But the idea of change and resolutions still intrigues me. So on this episode, I am bringing back my podcast producer Sean McMullin. You might remember him from episode 155 and episode 161 where we discussed meditation and mindfulness. This is part one of this conversation and I’m so excited for you to hear it. Part two will be released next week! Listen to the full episode to hear: The definition of Self-Loyalty How self-loyalty works with the idea of change and resolutions Sean’s plans for the new year--combining a word of the year with quarterly themes How to hold your resolutions loosely AND actually make change Learn more about Sean McMullin: Yellow House Media Learn more about Nancy: Coach in Your Pocket The Happier Approach Book Live Happier Website --- The Happier Approach Book I’ve been working with women like you living with hidden anxiety every day for over 20 years as a coach and counselor. Hi friends! My BFF, Anjellica Smith, is back again to play a little game with me: Snake Oil. This week, in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we're presenting two stories from cancer survivors. Part 1: Gail Thomas clashes with her oncologist while deciding how to fight her cancer. Part 2: As a marathon runner, Pierce McManus prides himself on his toughness — but then he begins coughing up blood. Her website is www.gail-thomas.com. Pierce McManus relocated to Washington, DC from New York in 1992 to pursue a career in international diplomacy. When his budding ambassadorial ambitions fell through, he opted for a different route -- running marathons, fronting a sleazy rock band, and diving headfirst into a career in digital communications. Pierce is a fixture of DC's venerated storytelling scene and the co-host of the popular Perfect Liars Club. You can learn more about him at the curiously titled piercemcmanus.com.
