James is joined by Clayton on the Gameweek Review Podcast to discuss the events of the midweek of Gameweek 27 where somehow, those who gambled on Cole Palmer with the captaincy were not rewarded... but it didn't matter that much anyway. So Palmer again in 28 with an insipid Leicester next? Maybe not with Mo Salah facing Southampton, or could The Reds rotate with the fixture falling in between their Champions League games with PSG? All the games covered including Arsenal drawing blanks again at Forest and Man City seeing off Tottenham in a game of two halves at White Hart Lane where Erling Haaland registered the only goal. Is there a case to take Salah on with the big Norweigian from Gameweek 29 onwards? Perhaps so, and there is plenty of discussion around the Blank of Gameweek 29 and how to manage players subject to chosen strategy, with key assets from the likes of City, Bournemouth, Palace and Wolves all covered in detail. James is just outside the top 5k after another storming weekend on his no Haaland strategy, but can it continue - and does James even want to continue without him - with Wolves and Southampton next for the big Norweigian!? On the Gameweek 7 Review Suj and Jaes discuss all the weekend games, which included Bukayo Saka's haul for Arsenal against Southampton, Haaland's blank against a Fulham side who will feel they merited something from The Etihad and one or two games that didn't thrill the neutral. One that thrill however was Brighton's come from behind victory against Tottenham, which dented James' good mood. There's an attempted explainer of what went wrong and the Podcast may even feature a bit of Erik Ten Hag, praise...? Plus, many FPL managers ate looking at players they may need to sacrifice to afford others, fixtures are about to get tough for many of the best teams and budget to mid price FPL forwards becomes a feature, an d the one James has his eye on most may well surprise. Episode 107 Crosscurrents in Early Electronic Music of Norway Playlist Arne Nordheim, “Epitaffio” (1963) for orchestra and tape from Nordheim, Alfred Janson, Bjørn Fongaard – Response: Electronic Music From Norway (1970 Limelight). Limelight release with the delightful painting of flying ears on the cover, includes the same tracks as the original Philips release from 1968 on the Prospective 21e Siècle label. The electronic sound material on the tape are taken from the end of the performance, but played during the opening section. It fuses the acoustic instruments and voices with electronics, filtering and speed changes. This recording is 10:15 Alfred Janson, “Canon” (1964) for chamber orchestra and tape from Nordheim, Alfred Janson, Bjørn Fongaard – Response: Electronic Music From Norway (1970 Limelight). Limelight release with the delightful painting of flying ears on the cover, includes the same tracks as the original Philips release from 1968 on the Prospective 21e Siècle label. In this piece, two tape recorders were used in performance. The first records for about four minutes and the, half a minute later, begins to play back what was recorded. The second tape recorder begins to record after the first tape machine ends, and then plays back what was recorded after another half minute, creating, in a sense, the structure of a canon. 12:27 Arne Nordheim, “Response I” (1966) for 2 percussion groups and tape from Nordheim, Alfred Janson, Bjørn Fongaard – Response: Electronic Music From Norway (1970 Limelight). Limelight release with the delightful painting of flying ears on the cover, includes the same tracks as the original Philips release from 1968 on the Prospective 21e Siècle label. Two percussionists respond to electronic sounds such as filtered white noise, sine waves and the filtered sounds of organ and metallic clanging distributed throughout the score. 18:09 Björn Fongaard, “Homo Sapiens” (1966) for magnetic tape from Poul Rovsing Olsen • Thorkell Sigurbjörnsson • Arne Mellnäs • Björn Fongaard – Nordiska Musikdagar 1968 Nordic Music Days Vol.3 (1969 His Master's Voice). Realized at the Norsk Riksringkastings studio, Oslo. 9:20 Bjørn Fongaard, “Galaxy” for 3 electric guitars in quarter-tones from Nordheim, Alfred Janson, Bjørn Fongaard – Response: Electronic Music From Norway (1970 Limelight). Limelight release with the delightful painting of flying ears on the cover, includes the same tracks as the original Philips release from 1968 on the Prospective 21e Siècle label. The electronic part makes use of audio filtering, changing tape speed, and editing to treat some unorthodoxed playing on the guitar. 12:05 Kåre Kolberg, “Keiserens Nye Slips - Electronic Music” from Kåre Kolberg – Contemporary Music From Norway (1980 Philips). A foray in computer composed music synthesis realized in the Electronic Music Studios in Stockholm using a PDP 15/40 computer; it was programmed in the EMS-1 computer language developed in the same studio. 9:54 Jan Bang, “Artificial Reeves” from from Narrative From The Subtropics (2013 Jazzland). Book Vs. Movie: The Witches Roald Dahl's 1983 Children's Novel Vs. the 1990 Nicolas Roeg Cult Classic FilmThe Margos finish October's month of spooky books and movies with 1983's The Witches by Roald Dahl (a favorite of this podcast!) This is one of his last works before his death in 1990 and is based on his love for his mother, Sofie Dahl. Stephen Roxburgh edited the work, and Quentin Blake's illustrations received great praise at the time though the story was thought to be “misogynistic.” It's now known as a modern classic. The story of an unnamed boy who lives with his Norweigian grandmother after his parents are killed and learns about witches who are ALL female and eat children is---intense. He learns that witches all over the world behave differently and that his being sent to an English school might make him vulnerable to the Grand Vulnerable High Witch of All the World. The story has kids turning into mice, magic potions, wigs, pea soup, and so much more weirdness, and an ending that might be more off-putting than encouraging. Nicolas Roeg directed the 1990 film that was considered a box office disappointment because it had a different ending than the book (happier, which Dahl completely hated and should not be a surprise considering what we knew about him) but is now considered a classic. This book revolves around Gemma, who can see and communicate with ghosts. She even has a unique gift: she can see ghosts and likes helping them settle their unfinished business. But the hotter-than-hot stranger she impulsively kisses on a bet is not only a phantom; he's determined to help her. And the only way Gemma can explain his presence is to pretend they're a real-life couple. Twice shy . . . Levi Walker lived—and died—to save his sister. Now he's got a second chance at life if he assists Gemma in reuniting with her long-lost sibling . . . and then never sees Gemma again. Gemma is thrilled to be getting to know her sister, but it causes a family rift she may be unable to heal. On top of that, she's falling for a ghost with a dilemma. HEAVY Music Interviews

After having to wait more than two and a half years from the initial tour announcement, Australian audiences finally got to experience the sheer brilliance that is TYR last week when they hit our shores for a run of five shows in five days.Although unfortunately losing Arkona from the planned line-up due to unforseen overseas circumstances, TYR pushed forward with their plans, declaring the show must go on!Existing fans would already be familiar with the Faroese four piece Viking style metal outfit, but for those who have managed to stay sheltered from their brand of sonic warfare let me tell you these shows were nothing short of sensational.Normally HEAVY has to chat with bands before they play their shows in order to help with promotion, but this time we were fortunate enough to have accompanied TYR for most of their run and as such had the chance to speak with them afterwards to get a different viewpoint. We caught up with frontman Heri Joensen on the eve of TYR's final Adelaide show last night."The crowds have been unbelievably good," he enthused of the tour so far. "It's been the dream of my life to play here."One aspect that stood out to me was seeing the crowds sing along to songs written in different languages. While the songs are sung prodimantly in English or Faroese, TYR also uses Norweigian, Icelandic and Danish languages in their music."It's very encouraging that people will go to the lengths of learning the lyrics in different languages," Joensen smiled, "but it also gives me some room to make mistakes (laughs) because if I make a mistake in Faroese nobody nptices. I can just mumble my way through a verse I've completely forgotten!"TYR are commonly refrred to as a folk metal band, but especially after seeing the band live I think that description fails to capture the full scope of their musical output."I think we have a unique sound of our own," Joensen agreed. "I don't think we sound like any other band out there. You can call it folk metal if you like - there's folk music in there, it's based on folk music partly - but it's also based on progressive metal, classic music and ordinary heavy metal, so I don't know. If people need to put a label on it Viking Folk Pagan Metal is the usual one but that doesn't really tell you what the music sounds like (laughs) so it's kind of useless. I'll leave it to the journalists and record label."In the full interview, Heri talks more about the tour, his favourite moments, learning some Australian words (for better or for worse), receiving care packages from fans, their next album and more.Big thanks to Bailey and Overdrive Touring for having HEAVY along for the ride and even bigger thanks to Heri, Gunnar,Tadeusz, Hans and Anton for being such awesome human beings!

Kathleen from Plenty of Sunshine Travel met with Cindy from Norwegian Cruise Line for this week's episode. . We took a look at the protocols in place to keep you healthy while at Sea. We also looked at the group space I have with NCL. . NCL Prima has so many "Firsts" First at sea Go-Carts - The go-karts can hit speeds of up to 30 miles-per-hour or 50 kilometres-per-hour. First at the world's first free-fall dry slide that you can experience the highest G-force of any comparable experience in the cruise industry. You can also experience the first three-story cruise ship theatre that can be transformed into a Vegas-style nightclub with an expansive dance floor for those of you who love the nightlife. If you are craving a waterslide how about the cruise line's first Tidal Wave waterslide? With this and so much more, you will love NCL Prima! , I have group space on the following itineraries . The Hawaiian Islands are best seen by The Pride of America! You start in Honolulu and go to Kahului Maui, Hilo Hawaii, Kona Hawaii, Nawiliwili Kaua'i and return to Honolulu Oahu. One of the other itineraries I have locked in group pricing and space on is a Greek islands itinerary. This itinerary starts in Athens and has stops in Rhodes, Bodrum, Mykonos, Paros, Crete, Santorini and returns to Athens. On Norwegian Jade. . We also have blocked group space (rates) on 2 Caribbean itineraries, an Eastern and a Western. Jazz is a very popular and vintage style/genre of music. While it is difficult for us pop music fans to demystify this unique field of music, people who are traditional jazz players and musicians still stick to this authentic genre of music. Originated in the African/American communities in the late 19th century, this genre has evolved and has been popularised with time. The Brand Called You is back with yet another inspiring episode. This time with a guest from Norway, Carl Strømer. Carl began his career as a strategy consultant for IBM. He was also the Co-Founder and Vice President of a leading online US Student Travel Agency. Later, Carl became the Director of Marketing of a Norweigian air shuttle. After this, very interestingly, Carl went on to establish Norway's most popular Jazz Group- JazzCode AS! He works as a Jazz Musician in New York. He combined his background in business and his love for music to start JazzCode. Carl comes from a very artistic and scientific background. His mother was the first pop music artist in Norway and his father was a scientist and his grandfather, a paleontologist! His life was rooted in music and science from a very young age. He has played music for most of his youth. His knowledge in business combined with his love for music led Carl to launch his venture JazzCode AS. Thank you for joining me for this episode of Speaking Tongues- the podcast in conversation with multilinguals. Today I’m speaking with Tyler, a language lover who began his road to speaking a second language as an adult and if you love to read or love literature, you’re going to love this conversation. In this episode, Tyler tells us how his mormon upbringing helped spark his curiosity with foreign language and travel. We talk about how Tyler developed his love of the French language through literature and a wedding trip to Europe that pushed him to go all in on learning the French language. He also tells us about how his love of history sparked his interest in Old Norse, Norweigian and Irish. You’ll want to hear his tips for discovering a language through the written word and the one tool that he used for an entire year to learn the French language. I think this episode is important because as many of us know, the value for being multi lingual in the US is not very high. Certainly not as high as it is in other parts of the world. It’s something that I have thought about for many years. I enjoyed this opportunity to talk with another person who grew up in the US about the way language study is viewed in our country. Big thank you to Tyler for having this conversation with me and sharing his story and sharing what worked for him when it came to learning another language. Kia ora and welcome to Friday's Economy Watch where we follow the economic events and trends that affect New Zealand. I'm David Chaston and this is the International edition from Interest.co.nz. This podcast is supported by Hatch. Looking at the markets ahead, investors will be watching the G-20 Summit next week - namely, relations between Chinese President Xi and US President Trump. The markets have been volatile of late thanks to the escalating trade war, but many analysts believe that trade talks will resume as an outcome of the Summit. It has undoubtedly been a bumpy ride for investors. Whatever the markets are doing at the moment, a buy-and-hold approach to investing can be a great way to earn long-term returns. We've got an exclusive discount code so you can invest in over 3000 shares on the US share markets if you sign up using hatch.as/interest. If your first deposit is $100 or more, Hatch will top up your account by $20. Today this podcast leads with news all about interest rates. The big story today is the sharp turn to risk aversion. And locally, we can see investors piling in to NZ Government bonds as one of a number of safe havens. This demand for risk-free bonds is such that it is pushing down yields very sharply. Part of the problem is that the traditional risk-free benchmark, US Treasuries, have an odour over their risk-free status. US Government debt is racing higher and can only get much worse if the US economy wobbles. That means debt ceilings will be reached sooner and defaults are an increasing possibility. Defaults and "risk-free" are not compatible. So investors are piling out of the US dollar and into government bonds that have low or zero histories of defaulting. There are a number of these, especially in Europe; but the Australian and New Zealand Government bonds are part of this. The New Zealand dollar is rising. New Zealand benchmark interest rates are falling sharply. In the US, their Q1 2019 current account deficit came in marginally worse than expected, but it is very small as a ratio to their GDP. In China, the stimulus is rolling out faster - but there is a deliberate effort not to call it stimulus. Instead, they are  "accelerating progress", "upgrading infrastructure", and "expanding safety". Stimulus with Chinese characteristics. None of these projects will dampen their demand for iron ore. In the EU, their latest consumer sentiment survey came in more negative than analysts were expecting. The Norweigian central bank hiked rates last night, taking them up +25 bps to 1.25%, and said it is likely to do so again in the near future. In the UK their central bank has left its policy rates unchanged, but they have sharply downgraded their view on economic growth. Do you know that we have a full database of all bonds on issue in New Zealand? You casn access that resourse at interest.co.nz/bonds-data/issues In Australia, after their prudential regulator signaled that its sensitivity test was too tight, Westpac moved to loosen the qualifying criteria for mortgages. Westpac's changes were not available to investors or owner-occupiers with interest only loans. But hours after making the changes, the regulator reacted "with fury" and Westpac backtracked, reinstating the 7.25% serviceability floor. The UST 10yr yield is now just under 2.00% and down -3 bps from yesterday. We should note that the New Zealand 1-5 swap curve has now gone negative at -2 bps. Gold has jumped a remarkable +US$40 today to US$1,389/oz. That is a gain of +3% in 24 hours. US oil prices have jumped today, up +5% as Persian Gulf supply tensions move to front-of-mind. They are now just on US$56.50/bbl. The Brent benchmark is now at US$64.50. The Kiwi dollar is firm against a falling greenback, now at 65.9 USc a gain of +½c since this time yesterday. On the cross rates we have risen too to be at 95.2 AUc. Against the euro we are holding at 58.4 euro cents. That puts the TWI-5 up at 70.6. You can find links to the articles mentioned today in our show notes. Work for string orchestra by Grieg performed by A Far Cry on September 22, 2013.Liszt: Ballade No. 2 in B minorGrieg: Holberg SuiteBoth of the works on today’s program have literary roots. We begin with Franz Liszt’s virtuosic Ballade No. 2 in B minor, a piece thought to have been inspired by the German author Gottfried Bürger’s influential poetic ballad Lenore. The piece embodies a similar sense of drama, and the ominous beginning is very much in keeping with the suspenseful emotional climate of the poem. We’ll hear it performed by Martina Filjak, a Croatian pianist.Next, we’ll hear a piece that was dedicated outright to an important writer: Edvard Grieg’s Holberg Suite for String Orchestra, opus 40. Grieg had been commissioned to write a work in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Ludvig Holberg, one of the most important forefathers of modern Danish and Norweigian literature. In response, Grieg wrote this piece, subtitled “From Holberg’s Time,” intended as an evocation of the music of the Baroque. Grieg’s piece is modeled on a Baroque keyboard suite and though originally composed for piano, we’ll hear the version that Grieg adapted for strings, performed by A Far Cry.First, the Liszt Ballade.
