The New York Times dropped a list of “The 25 Best Restaurants in Los Angeles Right Now.” Coming on the heels of the paper's 2023 Restaurant List a few weeks ago, critic at large Tejal Rao describes the new list as her “current favorites in one of the greatest food cities in the world.” Father Sal joins me to comb through the selected restaurants, opine on the quality of the list as a whole, and share a couple of Rao's choices that left us scratching our respective heads. We also ask ourselves the questions who is this list really for, what's the point of having so many similar lists floating around in the ether, and what would be an even better way to do this whole listicle journalism thing? But first, Father Sal and I round up the headlines to sift through what matters and what doesn't. There's a waste controversy at Erewhon, another round of harassment allegations at Nobu Malibu, and a sad landlord story affecting one of LA's most beloved Japanese cafes. We also talk robot food delivery, coffee omakase, and my new favorite topic, dining in the nude. We finish the episode off with a brand new segment called “Bad Yelp Review,” where we each share a moment from the past week in which the people in our lives would have been justified in leaving us a shitty Yelp review as humans. On today's 48th episode of The Thriller Zone, it's my distinct honor to welcome Stephen Hunter who is not only a New York Times Bestselling author, but a Pulitzer Prize Winner—which we'll discuss inside the show. And if you've ever heard or read about Bob Lee Swagger, then you likely know these books: Point of Impact—the one that started it all and became the film Shooter Black Light Time to Hunt The 47th Samurai Night of Thunder I, Sniper Dead Zero The Third Bullet Sniper's Honor G-Man Game of Snipers And his latest, Targeted Stephen also has 3 Earl Swagger books, 2 Ray Cruz books, EIGHT Standalone novels, and 3 Non-Fiction Books—two of which are a complication of essays on movies. And given his Pulitzer Prize was for Criticism, it's easy to see why the books are so good. The last thing I'll mention is that Stephen gives my listeners and viewers his succinct and powerful “6 Key Words For Creating A Successful Writing Career.” Stephen's pretty old school, so don't spend much time searching him out on a website or social media. Instead, just go to one of your favorite places you buy books and pick up a few. Trust me, you'll be hooked. To subscribe to our newsletter, leave a review, or just drop a note to say hi, go to: TheThrillerZone.com If you haven't yet, please SUBSCRIBE to our YouTube channel; that way you can stay up to date whenever new guests visit the show. And finally, if you'd like to leave a Review (5-stars are perfectly acceptable ;-) then please do so on ApplePodcasts, Spotify, or wherever you enjoy your podcasts.

We've had a lovely, restful month off. Unfortunately, the IAAF haven't. They've been busy chopping the triple jump, steeplechase, discus throw, and 200 metres from the 2020 Diamond League. Honestly. You couldn't make it up. Taylor v Claye? Meh. Noah Lyles? We've had enough charismatic sprinters. World records? Completed it, mate. Some of the best discuss-throwers in history? Throws leave people cold... right? There's that rant to have, and then there's the NY Times' interview with Mary Cain to discuss. Once one of athletics' most prodigious talents - a distance dynamo with an infectious smile and the world at her feet - Cain's stint at the Oregon Project saw her, in her own words, 'emotionally and physically abused'. She's articulate, thoughtful, emotive, and very brave in the piece, and it seemed only right we touch upon the issues raised. And - finally - some good news. Three bits of good news, in fact. Jody and Bayo have been journalising, and it is with enormous pleasure that we present to you interviews with: Tom 'friend of the pod and the face of race walking' Bosworth; Sophie '18.61 DID THAT REALLY JUST ACTUALLY HAPPEN??' McKinna; and Adam 'everyone's absolute and most adored favourite' Gemili. What a trio. Enjoy. As ever, please do let us know what you thought of the episode: we accept tweets (@BackstraightB & @Claire_GThomas), Insta DMs (@backstraightboyspodcast), reviews on your podcast platform of choice, and declarations of love at athletics meets. Thanks in advance, you lovely lot.

On MAEKAN It Up #30, we do our best to unpack the NY Times' expose on VICE and the unerlying issues that exist within company structures. There are no clear-cut answers, but we wonder how to best improve upon the situation and create balanced structures that are devoid of inequal opportunity. Almost 10 years ago, John C. Jay outlined his process behind empathy and how to best uncover meaningful relationships in culture. It all sounds strangely relevant in a time dominated by filter bubbles. We look into the words behind the short video and discuss how this philosophy is applicable more than ever today. At Vice, Cutting-Edge Media and Allegations of Old-School Sexual Harassment

He also has some unique insights into what it's like to put on an award show (he's worked on the Oscars) and he also has some interesting news for fans of his HBO show "Arli$$." Tune in!
Jason Burack of Wall St for Main St had on returning guest Austrian School Economist and author, Robert Murphy http://consultingbyrpm.com/blogRobert's bio and his Mises articles can be found here: https://mises.org/profile/robert-p-mu...Robert hosts the popular Contra Krugman podcast with Tom Woods that debunks each of Paul Krugman of the NY Times' articles: http://contrakrugman.com/Robert's many popular Austrian School of Economics books can be found here: http://www.amazon.com/Robert-P.-Murph...During this 35+ minute interview, Jason starts by asking Robert about the long term consequences to the interventionist policy of the Keynesian central planners. Robert talks about the Austrian Theory of the Business Cycle and how while the bust has been delayed, it has also been made much larger. Jason and Robert discuss Keynesian Economics and why Keynesian Economics won't die. Robert thinks the people in power love it because it gives them the justification to do what they already wanted to do. Next, Jason asks Robert if he sees parallels to the US now and prior to the 1929 stock market crash and ensuing Great Depression since he wrote a book about the Great Depression of 1929 and the New Deal. Robert says the 2008 crash resembled the 1929 crash and the roaring 20s were similar to the housing bubble of the 2000s prior to the 2008 crash. Robert then talks about how the history books have Herbert Hoover incorrect labeled as a proponent of the free market when in fact he was a massive interventionist. To wrap up the interview, Jason and Robert talk about how Wall St and Keynesians don't count asset price inflation as inflation while Austrians do and why Keynesians hate saving and deflation so much.
