I was wondering if you know the cause of why someone might get tightness and spasm on the right side of the throat. I've been having it freeze up and causes pain and tightness and I feel like I can't swallow or move. It only lasts for a few seconds and I just have to really think about relaxing everything. I have lot of trust in your opinion and would like to ask about magnesium l-threonate. I've been reading about its benefits regarding cognitive function, Alzheimer's, as well as improving sleep quality. Is this form of magnesium better for above mentioned? Are you considering creating another product like that? My second question is about acne. My partner has deep acne, not inflamed, just tiny hard bumps on temples and forehead. In this podcast, we're going to talk about the health benefits of cod liver oil. Cod liver oil is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA. EPA has potent anti-inflammatory properties, while DHA supports cognitive function. Cod liver oil is also rich in vitamin A and vitamin D. Don't confuse cod liver oil with fish oil! You would need 12,000 mg of fish oil to equal just one tablespoon of cod liver oil. You can not get vitamin A from fruits and vegetables. Beta-carotene is only a precursor to vitamin A, not the active form. Cod liver oil contains retinol, the active form of vitamin A. The most common autoimmune disease is Hashimoto's hypothyroidism. There's a significant link between vitamin A deficiency and hypothyroidism. There are vitamin A receptors inside of your white blood cells, so it's crucial for immunity! Vitamin A also helps to regulate iodine. Vitamin A supports the mucus membranes of your mouth, sinuses, throat, and lungs, so it's critical in preventing infections. It also supports the roots of the microvilli on the inside of your intestinal tract. Vitamin A supports the health of your retina. If you're deficient in retinol (the active form of vitamin A), you can go blind. Cod liver oil is also a good source of vitamin D. Without vitamin D, you can't pull calcium and magnesium into the body. Beans, legumes, grains, and cereals are very high in phytic acid, which increases the need for vitamin D. If your diet is high in these foods, it's easy to become deficient in vitamin D.

I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks…   Luis: Hi Dr Cabral, I seem to be suffering from hyperthyroidism. I noticed you have courses on the thyroid, but most seem to be focused on hypo, rather than hyper. I have constipation just about every day where my bowels feel constricted along with what feels like vagus nerve irritation (electrical bangs going up the neck into the head) and occasional cloudiness in my urine 2 of my blood tests came back as over 11 MG/DL for calcium. My GI doctor has now referred me to an endocronologist, but I would rarther not take meds or have my parathyroid removed if it comes to that. Is there anything you can recommend to me? I should mentioned that I'm in my late 30's. and prolific seamoss eater. I'm taking your Fell spectrum mag. and vitamin k2 mk4+mk7, but only finding minor relief. I've done testing through Equiilife and some work with your IHP's, as well as my local naturopathic doctor. I'm a 32 yr old, and I've had CREST for a little over a decade. I understand everyone has their own root cause, and Im working as hard as I can to uncover and fix my imbalances. However, I'm writing to see if you have had any success in working with clients who were able to completely overcome their symptoms of CREST/Schleroderma. I've yet to hear any success stories, and its a a condition that is never talked about. Would love to hear a podcast or just get some insight into what worked with your clients that had this dis-ease.   Anonymous: Hi Dr Cabral, I have been on a journey to find answers to vaginal and vulvar itch for years. I went the route of gynecology- they said I have lichen stenosis- told to take hormones.I didn't really want to do that so I tried Chinese medicine there I tried yin care and some other supplements. Itch continues. I then went to a natural path and got estriol and some cortisol balancing. I used hydration ovals. This didn't work. Throughout this 5 year journey, I did over the counter yeast treatments when I couldn't cope for a couple of days or months of relief. Then I started protocols with your testing and health coach. Organic acids test pointed to elevated levels to suspect yeast. I did detox - Limited yeast/sensitive gut foods. Midway into probiotics symptoms are back. Now what? I will not have my abdominal muscles tightened as the issue is more the hanging lower stomach and access fat in that area. What would you recommend me doing prior to the surgery and after? Surgery will take place mid-September this year. I did the 21-day detox in January and plan to do either a 7 days or 14 days detox before July. I have been told to stop taking my Cod Liver Oil 3 weeks before surgery. If a family member of your chose to do what I've chosen to do what would you recommend them doing? Check out today's questions:    Erin: Hi Dr Cabral, I have extreme salt cravings part of which are due to adrenal issues and the other thing. I just enjoy the flavor profile I have always preferred highly salted food. I had been experiencing swollen eyelids in the morning and then I heard it often times it's not about how much sodium you intake but instead your sodium to potassium ratio. I started taking potassium in the form of cream of tartar mix into my magnesium sweet drink before bed, and it seems to be working as a swelling has reduced. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the sodium potassium ratio, and whether you can balance that are really need to reduce salt intake?   Burg: Hey Doc, love your work. After a routine visit to the doctor, he noticed a crease in both earlobes and said that it might corollate to heart issues. It's called “Frank's Ear". I am 58 and overweight. I have noticed a loss of connective tissue (loose wrinkly skin) over the past few years. Any thoughts would be appreciated.   Marina: Hi Dr Cabral, I'd like to know the benefits of fish oil vs cod liver oil. Cod liver oil has vit a and d however you say that EPA to DHA of 2:1 is best, cod liver oil doesn't seem to meet this. When should we pick one over the other? Or supplement with both? Thank you   Anonymous: Hi, dr. Cabral.. My boyfriend bought these expensive pans from Hexclad because “even Gordon Ramsey uses them” and they are advertised as non-toxic.. I wrote an email to them and they said that of course they use PTFE to make them non-stick and that US FDA certified it for use in many applications including medical implants and cookware.. After listening to your podcasts I believe it's still toxic to our bodies, but not sure if you've used the name PTFE.. Can you please tell us your opinion on it?   Lara: Hello, dr. Cabral.. I went to an Ayurvedic doctor who said I was a pitta by looking at my fingers and nails.. I'm wondering about two things that he said: - the moons on the fingernails shouldn't be visible- if they are, there's a problem with corresponding organs - chocolate, even raw cacao is poison, because there is a scarcity of it in the world and it would have to be extremely expensive if it was natural.. in his opinion it is all made in a lab.. Healing is a beautiful thing. After my recent knee surgery to clean up bone spurs and scar tissue in my left knee, I was dialed-into healing at the deepest level. Is cod liver oil (CLO) the same as fish oil? Do the polyunsaturated fatty acids in it suppress your thyroid? What is the role of retinol in the body? Does vitamin A protect against lipid peroxidation in cell membranes? What are the role of fat soluble vitamins in the body?  In this solo show I answer all of these questions and more. I talk about why it took two years for Morley Robbins beating the retinol drum on my podcast to convince me to try it. In a world of “you're anemic, copper toxic and vitamin A toxic”, it takes a lot of unlearning to get to the truth. The truth is retinol is a critical nutrient that you can be deficient in even if you're eating grassfed beef liver everyday. Retinol is an electron carrier and a master antioxidant. Cod liver oil contains A and D in the perfect ratio in addition to compounds that probably haven't been discovered yet. While retinol seems to be the star of CLO, I suspect that it is a synergy of nutrients that gives the full effect. I share my experience of starting to take it this year in the middle of winter and how it affected my tolerance to cold temperatures.
