In this episode of Queerly Beloved, I'm joined by the multi-faceted Shelby Clark, a visionary entrepreneur, investor, embodiment facilitator, and founder of The Jungle Gayborhood, an LGBTQ+ focused retreat located center in the beautiful jungles of Costa Rica. You may remember me talking about the Gayborhood in my episode Healing the Father wound where I share about my magical time there attending a conscious kink retreat. Now you get to hear about it from the founder and director himself. In this interview we get to hear the story of how Shelby went from being a tech entrepreneur and founder of the groundbreaking billion-dollar car-sharing company Turo, to founding a queer retreat center in the jungle. And all the twists and turns on the way. Shelby vulnerably shares how, as a queer kid, he struggled to fully accept himself and found refuge in overachievement. Together, we unpack this familiar queer narrative of overcompensating to mask internalized shame, and explore how so many queer people, link their identity to achievement and people-pleasing, often at the cost of their own authentic selves. We then learn about all the influences for the Gayborhood including Esalen, Burning Man and radical fairy sanctuaries and then We explore why dedicated queer spaces like The Jungle Gayborhood offer uniquely medicine and create environments where radical authenticity can flourish free from societal expectations or limitations.Together, we unpack the transformative potential of psychedelics for queer healing, and I share some personal stories about my journey with that then Shelby shares insights from groundbreaking research recently facilitated at the Gayborhood. Enjoy this convo covering hese topics and many more!Check out the Jungle Gayborhood here-https://junglegayborhood.com/Use code: 'awakenedhearts100' for listeners $100 off any retreat.

Together, they share their personal paths through identity, transition, and deep familial support.Wil first met Ally during his time at the Ali Forney Center, where Ally was a committed supporter of LGBTQ+ youth experiencing homelessness. Through that work, Wil also got to know Beckett—whose honesty, humor, and authenticity leave a lasting impression.
In this deeply personal solo episode of Queerly Beloved, I recount my transformative journey of healing my father wound during a Conscious Kink retreat at the Jungle Gayborhood in Costa Rica in late 2024. Amidst the lush jungle, a profound memory emerged during a naked hike, unveiling layers of my father's emotional absence. This revelation led to a powerful role-play ritual, allowing me to reparent myself and mend deep-seated emotional wounds.Following the retreat, I experienced a series of synchronicities that led me to meet my current partner, illustrating how this healing work opened me to receiving love in new and profound ways. This episode underscores the significance of addressing unhealed wounds and celebrates the transformative power of spiritual and healing practices.Join me as I explore the depths of personal growth, the magic of conscious kink, and the beauty of recieving love. Today's guest is the incredible Wolf Martinez who identifies a Human Being, as an In-Between person, between male and female and a person with Native and Hispanic roots. Wolf leads retreats and ceremonies across around the world and practices healing arts based in Indigenous and Oriental Medicine, as well as Life Counseling. His desire is to help people become more human, and find their Freedom and Unity with All that Is. We begin our conversation with Wolf sharing an awe-inspiring and deeply emotional story—one filled with spirit-led synchronicities—of discovering that they have a daughter. It's miraculous, heart-touching, and a testament to the spiritual threads that weave through our lives. We also dive into the power of ancestral work, exploring how healing ourselves can liberate and heal our ancestors. And we reflect on the idea of “ancestors of the future,” inspiring us to live with intention for generations yet to come.Wolf illuminates the sacred, traditional role of Two Spirits as caretakers of children, language, songs, and stories, reminding us that even if we don't have biological children, our actions ripple through future generations. We explore the idea of All Our Relations and the importance of honoring our interconnectedness. From there, we unpack the power of language—how shifting the way we speak about work, challenges, and even ourselves can open doors to liberation and possibility. I share some wisdom on celebrating our differences and embracing our uniqueness rather than forcing conformity. And finally, we close with a grounding meditation and a blessing, wrapping this conversation in love and intention.Learn more about host of Queerly Beloved, Wil Fisher here- https://www.wil-fullyliving.com/Support the show

In this podcast we unpack what it means to find your inner voice - your intuition. What is it? How can you hear it? Is it the voice of God or something else? What happens when we follow that "intuitive hit"? We talk openly about our evangelical upbringing and how it influenced our ability to trust our own knowing. Michael's intuition led him down many good paths in his lifetime. In this story, we hear about his search for Paul, his birth father - a man who never knew he existed. Would he receive the news of Michael well? Would he want to meet with him? What about the other news ... that his son is gay? There is a lot at stake for Michael in this podcast but even more for Paul. Find out why ... If you haven't already, I'd highly recommend listening to the first two episodes: Queerly Beloved & Channeling Janice which explore the discovery and unfolding of Michael's life which led him to this point. In this Amazon Exclusive episode, we take a deep dive into some of the artists, places and themes that came up consistently throughout Season One of Queerly Beloved.
Michael Jon Watt was raised by his adoptive parents on a Christian fundamentalist commune tucked into the woods near Long Lake in Traverse City, Michigan. His connection to God existed outside of this dark reality as did an inner knowing that he was also gay. He was told that he could love God or be gay, but not at the same time. He would have to choose. He tried. For decades. Multiple confessions, accountability groups, conversion therapy and an eventual engagement to a woman didn't change what he knew to be true. The harder he worked to deny his identity, the more pain consumed him. This episode isn't about coming out and life becoming easier. It's about the journey of a man destined to live an authentic life and the peace he found along the way back to his birth mom, his identity and his home. Michael is a graphic designer, Etsy shop owner and improv artist who returned to the north country and made it his own. We hope you are encouraged by his story and the clarity offered to those searching for identity. In this episode I interview someone who inspired me to launch Queerly Beloved and has made a big impact on my spiritual path, Alyson Charles Storey. Alyson is an internationally renowned shaman, best-selling author of Animal Power and host of the Ceremony Circle podcast. Alyson went from being a national champion athlete, top rated radio host and a national daytime television talk show host to aligning with her calling as a shaman after a traumatic moment provided her awakening. Since then, her ability to share ancient sacred wisdom and divine energy and be a powerful catalyst for change has ignited a global phenomenon. Alyson devotes her life to living by the calls and directives of Source. Her best-selling book and card deck Animal Power, we're both the number one new releases in their categories. Her full bio is filled with epic accolades and stories, including the fact that Marie Claire magazine selected her as the cover story, and how she made history becoming the first person to perform on stage at the HBO film festival, where she guided a shamanic journey for over 10,000 people, (which we get into in this interview!). There's also a long list of amazing respected spiritual teachers from around the globe that she's worked with, so check out the full bio via the link below to see more of this amazing woman's journey and accomplishments. In thge interview, after discovering and revealing our current drag avatars, Alyson shares an epic story about seeing a gigantic bat in Bali, and the transmission that happened in that moment that marked a long period of deep shadow work. We then talk about this phrase "in relation," Alyson describing it as the favorite phrase she's come across in this lifetime. We discuss how so much can be revealed when we ask, “how am I in relation to ____?"Next, Alyson talks about how in shamanism you don't turn away from anything, you lean in, and learn and experience that aspect of life. This leads to a conversation about the possibility of expanding our hearts by seeing God in everything- especially our adversaries or the things that cause us to contract. Then Alyson shares some profound wisdom about ego positioning in relationship to the path of enlightenment. We then look at the strategy of giving a name to shadow archetypes in our lives in order to have more levity (and compassion for ourselves) when these shadow shows up. Staying in the themes of names, next we hear the story of Alyson receiving the name Rockstar Shaman, and I share about naming from a queer perspective. Alyson also talks about the epic experience of guiding 10,000 people on a shamanic journey at the HBO film festival. Coming back to power animals, I share about how Alyson's book Animal Power, had a profound impact on the life of one of my family members who was really struggling. We then get to learn more about power animals and how to work with them, and both Alyson and I share about the power animals that have shown up in our lives and how they have supported our journeys. We end with an invitation from Alyson to be open and trust as we traverse these soul contracts. The Church of England prohibits same-sex relations. Even so, the debate on this position – in the UK and the worldwide Anglican Communion - continues. Should the Church allow and conduct LGBT blessings, and even marriages? And can the Church ever sanction sexual relations between two people who are not husband and wife, man and woman? These are the questions Anglicans tussle with. Most recently, bishops in England made a proposal that same-sex couples should be welcomed in church for a blessing. Opposition from conservative, Anglican groups has been noisy, including from some same-sex attracted Christians. Ahead of the General Synod, the Church of England's regular gathering of bishops, and elected clergy and laity, Heart and Soul explores the most divisive and explosive issue facing Anglicans. Linda Pressly meets Christians who both accept, and struggle with, the Church's teachings on sexuality. So, I'm just going to come right out and say it - school kind of sucked. And, it's bad enough when you have that gnawing suspicion that you don't fit in, but the real kicker is when other kids start to notice this too, and they think that the most appropriate response is... to go out of their way and make your life misery... I was never really popular, and so I just learnt to keep my head down and survive the experience. But, for this week's guest, Wil Fisher who is the host of the podcast Queerly Beloved, the experience was different. He went from being one of the most popular kids to being a social pariah overnight. How would you even begin to get your head around that? But, in a weird way, being an outcast gave him an opportunity to evaluate things he may not have otherwise done, and that time alone let him figure some things out about himself... And, it was at the San Diego queer cafe Euphoria that he got to *ahem* practice that all a little more... We talk about running in to your teacher in a queer space, listening to Gregorian chants on your first date (how romantic!), and coming out to your dad all thanks to Dolly Parton.... Do you have any memories of Euphoria, or maybe a queer coffee shop from your own scene that you want to share? You might describe Cormac as a late bloomer. Or he might describe himself that way. Though he's been in the dance music game for a long time—a regular at Trash and Nag Nag Nag, and a resident and booker at the old Sunday WetYourSelf! parties at fabric—it's only more recently that he's come into a sound that he can call his own, something that connects more clearly with who he is. (These days, you're more likely to find him closing Panorama Bar.) That sound is rooted in the queer history so important to him. You could call his RA Podcast hi-NRG, to be general. It's that vibrant, pounding, melodic and synthetic sound that came out of the post-disco early '80s, combining the flair of disco with the strut of Italo. There's new and old here, because Cormac is a champion of evolving iterations of the genre. Over this two and a half hours, you'll hear Patrick Cowley and Madonna, but also a whole lot of other, less obvious stuff too. We could go on, but Cormac explains himself pretty eloquently in the interview below. Two hot tips: watch out for his label, Polari Records, and his upcoming Queerly Beloved podcast series, where he talks to queer artists about their relationships with music. @cormac Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/885
Instead of embracing our deeper selves as gay men, we often allow our "rejectionist mentality" to show up and turn that dimmer switch down on our life. Guiding us with a open-hearted conversation about being vulnerable and allowing your shame and rejection die so that you can step into you - whether through 1:1 work or group retreats. Becca chats with Katy Nishimoto, who is a senior editor at The Dial Press, an imprint of Random House, and who, prior to that, worked for ten years as a literary agent at WME. In the world of romance, Katy has edited: Queerly Beloved by Susie Dumond and the forthcoming contemporary sapphic Pride & Prejudice retelling Just As You Are by Camille Kellogg, out April 25th. You'll hear Katy talk about what a literary agent does, what an editor does, how she thinks about categorizing and positioning books in the marketplace, particularly books by queer and BIPOC authors, and how she's experienced the industry changing since she started working as a literary agent in 2009 (honestly they got on a bit of a tangent here about The Scope of Recent History as it relates to queerness, but hopefully you'll find it interesting)!

About Kalyn: Kayln: Kitchen is the tenacious and shouty mastermind behind Queerly Beloved, a wedding marketplace for LGBTQ+ people in love and the vendors that celebrate them. She broke into the wedding industry in 2009 as a photographer and has always had a soft spot for authentic, unapologetic love in all its forms. She currently lives in Denver with her new wife and their three-legged dog. In this episode, Jamie, Heather, and Kayln discuss:Filling a need in the wedding industry.Bringing the focus and emphasis on respect.Being genuine and finding genuine vendors.Intentionally incorporating social justice into the business.Key Takeaways:Ask all of your couples to self-identify.Make sure your pronouns on your social media are explicitly clear.Verify the comfort and preference of positions for photography.Embrace who you and your spouse are and incorporate that into your wedding with intentionality. "So many people end up eloping because the marriage means so much more than the day and we want to be able to mesh both of those." — Kalyn Connect with Kayln:Website: https://www.queerlybeloved.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/queerlybelovedco/ Connect with The Union Podcast:Website: https://theunionpodcast.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/unionpodcast/?hl=enShow: https://theunionpodcast.com/our-podcast/ Connect with Jamie:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdAcY6YGgF-RgGYXTsOENbAWebsite: https://jwcoordination.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jwcoordination/?hl=enFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/JWCoordination/ Connect with Heather:Website: https://theweddinghacker.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/weddinghackerInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/weddinghackerexpoPinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/theweddinghacker/ Show notes by Podcastologist: Kristen BraunAudio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions. From summer flings and first crushes to slow-burning romances – these three authors know what it takes to write a nuanced queer love story. Sophie Gonzales (Only Mostly Devastated) and Anna Whateley (Peta Lyre’s Rating Normal) have written warm, funny and occasionally awkward stories of LGBTIQA+ teens figuring life out. They join Erin Gough to discuss queer perspectives on love story clichés and why their depictions of high school life have resonated so strongly with a new generation of readers. It was my encounter with Hello Mr in 2016, the magazine about men who date men, that inspired me to throw my hat into the LGBTQ media ring; for the first time, I saw what was possible and I was hooked. I turned to the masthead, saw Fran Tirado’s name and emailed him. We connected, we bonded and he’s since become one of my friends and queeroes. In this conversation, Fran and I discuss the ever-evolving landscape of LGBTQ media, the end of white twink idolatry, enjoying your own company, working in service of a greater purpose and extending and expanding the modern queer cultural canon. We recorded this conversation in New York City during World Pride 2019. If you've been paying attention to the news cycle over the past few weeks, you know that there's been a lot happening. Fascism in Brazil, anti-semitism, bombs in the mail and the US Army coming to the border to confront refugees. In all of that, there was also some important and troubling stuff from the Prez about possible changes to Title IX that would narrowly define an individual's gender. While all of this stuff is important, we don't want the impending danger for transpeople to get lost in the mix. So, in light of all that, this week we're talking with Blaire Bohlen, a talented artist and all around great person who identifies as trans non-binary. Blaire has had a pretty wild journey through Christianity, especially after being fired from the campus ministry organization InterVarsity for being bi in 2015, leading them to have some really interesting and helpful insights on the damaging pathologies within Christianity and evangelicalism especially. Blaire is also involved in a neat thing called the Reformation Project, which according to its website "is a Bible-based, Christian grassroots organization that works to promote inclusion of LGBTQ people by reforming church teaching on sexual orientation and gender identity. Our vision is of a global church that fully affirms LGBTQ people.” They do grassroots organizing and education and have a ton of great resources. Check out Blaire's artwork and other shenanigans at blarecreative.info. For real, check it out. It's Very Good. Also find Blaire on twitter @blaire_bohlen.
