Do you have your own bathroom? Then you might be familiar with soap scum, which is the result of a combination of having hard water and soap (0:44). To determine how hard water is, we can use gravimetric analysis, which is an experimental procedure used to determine the amount of a substance, for example an ion, by precipitating it from an aqueous solution (1:25). Basing off of the solubility rules (1:45), the episode describes the steps to precipitate the calcium carbonate with sodium carbonate (3:05) and briefly discusses how to calculate the water hardness (5:08) and calcium ion concentration (5:38). Experimental errors described in the episode discuss how the yield can be higher or lower than expected (6:01).Question: Why does the sodium carbonate have to be in excess?Thank you for listening to The APsolute RecAP: Chemistry Edition!(AP is a registered trademark of the College Board and is not affiliated with The APsolute RecAP. Nehemiah 8.6 NLT Then Ezra praised the Lord, the great God, and all the people chanted, “Amen! Amen!” as they lifted their hands. Then they bowed down and worshipped the Lord with their faces to the ground. The rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem in just 52 days was an amazing achievement. But Nehemiah was quite clear that there was something that was even more important and that was to ensure that God was at the centre of the city's life. In this chapter, Ezra the priest addressed all the people and brought out the Book of the Law of Moses. This may refer to the whole of the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Bible) or perhaps just the Book of Deuteronomy. What we know for certain is that Ezra read for six hours, from daybreak to noon! This was quite a marathon, but it is recorded that the “people listened attentively to the Book of the Law.” We read that Ezra stood above the people and as he opened the Book the people all stood up and praised God. What an amazing moment that must have been as the people lifted up their hands in worship and shouted, “Amen! Amen!” and then bowed down with their faces to the ground. It is, of course, possible for us to worship God by ourselves, but to do so in a huge assembly like that is such a great encouragement. It is a powerful expression of our unity and our shared dependence upon God. God's people have always needed to worship together and we need to treasure every opportunity we are given. We have learnt a great deal during the pandemic about the importance of worshipping together. Who would ever have thought that the day might come when we would not be able to gather in our churches? And in those times when we were able to meet, that it would be illegal to sing songs of worship? But despite all the necessary restrictions, God's people have continued to worship him. What an amazing testimony it has been to our nation that, even though we have had times when we have not been able to worship together in one place, we have continued to worship God together online. You simply can't stop God's people from praising him! QUESTION: Why is worshipping God together important to you? PRAYER: Dear Father, thank you for the privilege of being able to worship you. Help me to treasure every opportunity of worshipping with my Christian brothers and sisters. Amen

Please be sure to grab my free THYROID GUIDE to make sure your doctor is not missing your thyroid issue   The Question I work out and watch what I eat but every year, I gain weight. I can't get rid of it. Is there anything I can do?  Inna's Response  Yes. There is absolutely something that you can do! The first step is to get a clear picture of what's going on with your thyroid levels. Make sure you get the full thyroid panel including TSH (which is where most tests stop), T 3, free T4, Free T3, and reverse T3. I also recommend testing thyroid antibodies and T3 uptake. For more on these tests and how to understand your results, you can download my FREE THYROID GUIDE   This has to do with unexplained weight gain because your levels may not be optimal (even if your doctor doesn't note it). If you have Hashimoto's, you may experience thyroid destruction so you need to make sure your levels are optimal To improve weight loss, you will also want to balance inflammation and support your immune system. This could include eating anti-inflammatory foods and balancing blood sugar.  Resist the urge to skip meals and avoid carb-loading. If you eat regular, balanced meals and your blood sugar is balanced you will have much more success.    The Question Is it true that if you have Hashimoto's, you can easily develop other autoimmune diseases?  Inna's Response  Sadly, this is true. When we have an autoimmune disease like Hashimoto's, the immune system has become confused about what it should be fighting against. In the case of Hashimoto's the immune system is attacking the thyroid.  If the immune system stays confused and nothing is done to help balance and calm the system then it can attack other organs. And there's something called cross-reactivity where antibodies of the thyroid can cross-react with other tissues and potentially cause another autoimmune disease. This is all the more reason to balance inflammation and support the immune system, not just the thyroid with medication. I dive a little deeper into this in this episode but you can also find more information about solving the autoimmune mystery by listening to episode 32 of Health Mysteries Solved.    The Question Can I have thyroid symptoms if my TSH is just a little bit outside of the reference range?  Inna's Response  The answer is yes, especially if your other thyroid hormones (like T4 and T3) are low. This is why I always say that you have to look at the full thyroid panel because the TSH is not a clear enough indication of what's really going on with your thyroid. You need thyroid hormone for everything in your body so you can definitely have symptoms if your levels are outside of optimal.  If you have Hashimoto's, some symptoms could be due to the inflammation or your immune systems struggle to regulate.    The Question How do you know if Synthroid is working or if you need to switch?   Inna's Response  There are two key things you need to look at.  The first is to check your thyroid levels. If this is a new medication, you want to check all of your thyroid levels within the first 4-6 weeks to see how it is working. Synthroid isT4 so it does not give you any T3, the active hormone which your body needs so you want to check t3 to make sure you are able to convert it properly. For some people, this conversion is an issue. So, they may be taking Synthroid but the body is not converting it properly and they continue to have symptoms. This is why it's so important to not rely solely on the TSH levels.  The second key thing is how you actually feel. Sometimes the labs are picture perfect but the person still doesn't feel well.  This could be for a couple of different reasons. One is that medications have fillers, excipients or colorings which can cause a reaction. There are other options and brands that are slightly different. For example, one is called Tirosint which is easy to absorb (it's a gel cap) and it doesn't contain any excipients or desiccated thyroid which works a little differently in the body and some people feel a difference with those.     The Question Why does my thyroid medication stop working after several months?  Inna's Response  If you have Hashimoto's, you can experience flare-ups where the thyroid gland is under attack. Some people have more flare-ups than others. Over time, these flare-ups can destroy the gland itself so that it is less able to produce hormones requiring more medication. So, even if you've been on the same dose of medication for a long time, you may suddenly feel like it has stopped working but in actuality, you just need to adjust your dose.  There is a second possibility that has to do with absorption. Your body's ability to absorb the medication can fluctuate depending on inflammation in the body, exposure to toxins especially things like plastics or pesticides. These can block the receptors so that even though the medication is coming in, your cells can't absorb it.  In either of these cases, you will want to pay close attention to triggers. To help reduce triggers, focus on eating a clean diet (keeping it organic when you can), reducing stress, checking ingredients of personal care and clearing products.  This should help reduce some of the triggers and inflammation.     The Question Will I be on medication forever?  Inna's Response  This depends on whether you have hypothyroidism or Hashimoto's.  If it's hypothyroidism not caused by Hashimoto's, it could be due to some type of inflammation or it may have been triggered by toxin exposure or a virus in the thyroid. In those cases, it is possible for the thyroid function to return and for medication to be stopped.  In the case of Hashimoto's, the thyroid gets destroyed over time. The goal here is not so much to get off the medication as it is to stop further attack on the thyroid. It is possible for the thyroid to regenerate but it is unknown if it can regenerate enough to no longer require medication.  Let me address something here because I know that a lot of people think medication is bad and that Synthroid is bad because it's synthetic and unnatural. I try to get people to shift their thinking around this because thyroid is an essential hormone that you need for all of the cells in your body. So, this medication is replacing something that, for whatever reason, your body is not producing but absolutely needs. It's essential. It's much worse for your body to be deficient in thyroid hormone than to take the hormone.  I do get it. I struggled with this for a long time but was able to reframe my thinking around it because for me, it is something my body really needs. I think that especially with Hashimoto's, it's about keeping things balanced to prevent more attack and the need to increase the medication. If you can do that and keep your medication at the same dose without the need to increase each year, you are doing a great job!    The Question At my last check, my TSH was where we wanted it to be and I'm doing well and losing weight. However, I have hair loss. Why is that still the case?   Inna's Response  It's true that your thyroid plays an important role in your hair health but it's not solely responsible! There are a lot of other things at play when it comes to your hair.  The first thing you want to check are your iron levels (not just your hemoglobin - check iron saturation and ferritin) to make sure those are in range.  Note that ferritin will fluctuate a little with your menstrual cycle so if it's low but everything else looks good, you should be okay. If you are low in iron, you'll want to look into dietary changes and supplements.  The other big thing that people don't often realize affects hair health is blood sugar. If you're skipping means or your meals aren't balanced, you may be experiencing insulin spikes. That can influence polycystic ovarian syndrome and which can affect your estrogen and testosterone levels. This can directly affect the hair.    The Question I understand that gluten and dairy can be issues for those with Hashimoto's but what about coffee or tea, can those aggravate it? Inna's Response  Yes, they possibly can.  Some people who have thyroid issues also have sensitive adrenal glands. Coffee has caffeine which can overstimulate the adrenal glands. The thyroid and adrenals work closely together so if the adrenals are overstimulated, the thyroid can suffer.  Additionally, coffee can cross-react with gluten, so if you have an issue with gluten, there is a possibility that it could also be an issue with coffee. To be sure, you can do a food sensitivity test to see if coffee is an issue.  Finally, be aware that green tea, specifically, can overstimulate the immune system which can cause problems for those with Hashimoto's.       The Question I have double-vision from Hashimoto's. Should I see an eye specialist? Inna's Response  Yes. An eye specialist is always helpful but it's important that you address your immune system. There is definitely a relationship between autoimmunity and the inflammatory process. In the case of Hashimoto's, it attacks the thyroid but it can also attack other tissues like those in the eyes. So, yes, definitely see a specialist but also look at your Hashimoto triggers and anything that might be causing inflammation to try to reduce flare-ups.    The Question What are the chances of getting pregnant with Hashimoto's? Inna's Response  The chances are very, very good - I'm living proof with two kids. I have hundreds and hundreds of clients with Hashimoto's who have gotten pregnant. To increase your chances, make sure to support the immune system and that all of your thyroid levels are where they should be. If you don't have enough thyroid hormone, it can cause issues with conception and increase the chance of a miscarriage.    The Question Is it safe to take Levothyroxine or Synthroid while pregnant? Inna's Response  Yes, yes, yes! Not only is it safe, it's absolutely needed if your TSH is high and your hormones are low. For the first 8 weeks, the baby is actually relying on your thyroid hormone before their thyroid gland forms. So, yes it is extremely safe and extremely important for you to support your thyroid during pregnancy if you don't have enough naturally.    The Question What are the root causes of a goiter (aside from iodine deficiency)?  Inna's Response  This may surprise you but iodine deficiency is not actually that big of a cause of goiters in the USA. Most people are not that iodine deficient because your thyroid only needs a very small amount of iodine because it can store it.  Goiter is typically caused by an elevated TSH more so than a deficiency in iodine. There are chemicals that are considered goitrogens that can block the hormones and elevate TSH. When the TSH is elevated for an extended period of time, it creates a build up in the growth of the thyroid tissue resulting in a goiter. Goitrogens are found in things like pesticides and plastics.     The Question My naturopath said that I have Hashimoto's but my endocrinologist says that I don't. My antibodies are there but below the reference range. Do I have it or don't I? Inna's Response  I get this question a lot and unfortunately, it's a bit of a gray area. The way I look at it is that something is forming, but it may not be official because the antibodies are not above the reference range.  From a functional, holistic perspective, there shouldn't be any antibodies against the thyroid so we shouldn't ignore that they are there. Something is forming and it could take 5 or 50 years to develop. I would be mindful and look at triggers. I would do a food sensitivity test, check for Celiac genes, and consider removing gluten because it can be such a biggie. Also reduce your stress and exposure to toxins. Basically, do everything you can to help calm the body and immune system while also increasing your intake of anti-inflammatory foods.  Check your antibody level regularly to see if it's going up or down. You may not officially have Hashimoto's but I wouldn't ignore it either.  If you have Hashimoto's be sure to tune in to the 100th episode of Health Mysteries Solved. Question: Why do glycine and salt help with sleep? The glycine is probably working primarily by acting as an inhibitory neurotransmitter and lowering core body temperature to promote faster falling asleep and deeper sleep achieved. And then on the salt. The salt is going to stimulate antidiuretic hormone or vasopressin, which is really a mechanism to regulate the concentration of solutes in the blood, and make sure your electrolyte and fluid balance is proper. And so glycine's getting you a deeper sleep. Salt is preventing you from having to pee, and the two of those make you less likely to wake up for that purpose. Wake up Castle Rock and America
Why did Jesus instruct us to pray “lead us not into temptation”?"

Do not let the evil one destroy you. Do not. That the evil one destroyed you. I mean, I've got to be honest. That I've thought about checking out. Dinner. Lord sent us angels to me. Basically, saying that that would be a permanent solution. To a temporary problem. Jesus taught us to pray. Do not lead us into temptation. And that's exactly what the. Evil War once attracted to. So do not let the evil one destroy you. Question: "Why did Jesus instruct us to pray “lead us not into temptation”?" Answer: We know from James 1:13 that God does not tempt us to sin. If God did tempt us to sin, He would be acting contrary to His holy nature, against His desire for us to be holy as He is holy (1 Peter 1:16), and against all other commandments in Scripture that tell us to avoid sin and flee temptation. In the Lord's model prayer (Matthew 6:9–13), Jesus says, “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one” (verse 13). The inclusion of a request for God not to lead us into temptation teaches us that avoiding temptation should be one of the primary concerns of the Christian life. The idea of God leading His people is a main theme of Scripture. The book of Psalms especially is filled with pleas for God to lead us in His ways (Psalm 5:8; 27:11), by His truth and righteousness, and in “the way everlasting” (Psalm 139:24). Along with leading us toward good, we understand that we are asking God to lead us away from evil. The petition in the Lord's Prayer not to be led into temptation reflects the believer's desire to avoid the dangers of sin altogether. This phrase, then, must be understood in the sense of “permitting.” Jesus taught us to pray, “Do not ‘allow' us, or ‘permit' us, to be tempted to sin.” This request implies that God has such control over the tempter as to save us from his power if we call upon our Heavenly Father. There is another sense in which we are to plead with God not to lead us into temptation. The word temptation can also refer to trials. We know from 1 Corinthians 10:13 that God will not test us beyond our ability in Christ to bear it and will always provide a way out. But God sometimes subjects us to trials that may expose us to Satan's assaults for His own purposes, as in the cases of Job and Peter (Luke 22:31–32). If the temptation in the Lord's Prayer refers to trials, then the meaning of Matthew 6:13 is, “Do not afflict or try us.” It is not wrong to pray that we may be delivered from trials and suffering, as long as we submit ourselves to the will of God, no matter what it is. The believer can rightly ask to be delivered from testing as well as ask for the strength to endure it if it does come. We might illustrate Jesus' words “Lead us not into temptation” like this: a mother takes her young children grocery shopping with her and comes to the candy aisle. She knows that taking her children down that aisle will only stir up greediness in their hearts and lead to bouts of whining and pouting. In wisdom, she takes another route—whatever she may have needed down the candy aisle will have to wait for another day. In this way the mother averts unpleasantness and spares her children a trial. Praying, “Lead us not into temptation,” is like praying, “God, don't take me down the candy aisle today.” It's recognizing that we naturally grasp for unprofitable things and that God's wisdom can avert the unpleasantness of our bellyaching. Whether we are asking for God to lead us away from sin or from difficult trials, our goal is found in the second part of verse 13: “Deliver us from the evil one.” A petition similar to this is offered by David in Psalm 141:4: “Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil so that I take part in wicked deeds along with those who are evildoers; do not let me eat their delicacies.” In all things, God is our deliverer, and we are wise to seek His power over sin.

Question: Why is methylfolate the off-switch for the glycine buffer system? The reason is that generally in the fed state, you have lots of incoming methionine. And so you have an excess of SAMe in the fed state. In the fasting state, you have no incoming methyl groups from diet, and therefore the fasted state is the low-methylation state. So fed state, high methylation state, fasted state, low methylation state. You basically shut off MTHFR in the fed state, because in the fed state, which is a high methylation state, the incoming methionine makes you not need any MTHFR activity. QUESTION: Why did they choose to make it a DISTRICT? ANSWER: So it would be completely independent and non-partisan. Article 1 Section 8 - that is what you would be amending. It is has NEVER been amended! BOOK ‘The Political Crisis of the 1850’s’ by Michael F. Holt They were trying to stop and prevent the SAME things we are currently trying to stop. We will not win though. BIOGRAPHY Mike Church Biography – “Too Catholic For Satellite Radio” In May of 2015, Chris Ferrara wrote a bio pic essay on a talk-radio host who was then completely unknown to Catholic, talk-radio fans. The Mike Church Interview: A Remarkable Conversion to Tradition Changes the Face of Political Talk Radio Featured Chris wrote of me back then, words that were too kind but serve as a basis for this biography. Indeed, over the past year or so Mike Church has emerged as the only traditionally Catholic conservative in talk radio today, anywhere in the world. And I mean traditional. Not only during my appearances on the show, but now thematically, Mike has turned the longest running political talk show on Sirius Radio into an unabashed presentation of the Social Kingship of Christ, traditional Catholic moral teaching, and even the traditional Latin liturgy as the solution to what is evidently otherwise a terminal civilizational crisis. I have been invited on the show numerous times to defend all of these things explicitly, to speak of the one true Church, and even to call upon conservative Protestants to enter the Church if they are serious about saving our nation and our civilization. From there, on October 26, 2015, my 13 year run on Sirius Satellite Radio came to a close when my contract was not renewed. Chris would follow the above bio with an updated one titled, The Mike Church Show – Too Catholic For Satellite Radio. MIKE CHURCH BIOGRAPHY FACTS Born, February 2nd, New Orleans Begun talk-radio in 1992, WSLA, Slidell LA, I have been off air a total of 7 months since. Launched the Sirius Satellite Radio service as its FIRST – LIVE talk-show on 10 March, 2003. Promoted to Morning Drive on the SiriusXM Patriot Channel, May 2009, the 3rd most listened to show on the platform From July 2007 – present, founded Founding Father Films, wrote, produced, narrated and directed 9, full length audio features, two that made it to DVD! Returned to the Roman Catholic Church’s Tridentine Mass and Tradition in 2013. Consecrated to Our Lady via de Montfort’s formula in December 2014. I had been planning for SiriusXM to “whack me” since 2012 and had laid the structural groundwork for the next step in my career: launching the Veritas Radio Network and The CRUSADE Channel. On November 1st, 2015, in a video webcast for the press, I announced the VRN and that on November 15th, the Mike Church Show would be silent no more and would return to the air, this time on a platform custom built for LIVE talk radio. Smaller Government is Better! Avoid the Chastisement! It’s your hitchhiker’s guide to faux conservative news!

Morning, afternoon, evening whatever the case maybe, Donna here for you personally!Question: Why aren't you answering Destiny's Call?Could it be your call  got DROPPED, because life happens as a result of the decisions we make. But the good new is that, God telephone system is something like a landline, that's rooted and ground in His Word, for US, and it's  called a "lifeline". Your destiny call is still waiting on you to pick up!I answered the call after 48 years, by jumping on a greyhound bus; escaping a domestic violence situation and riding the bus from Atlanta, GA to Tulsa, OK then connecting to the operator who is the "Holy Spirit" only to complete one-third of that Destiny of obtaining a Bachelor's Of Science degree in Social Work. And at age 59, I am still on the call!!! LOLWhen you think about your goals and your dreams, answer the call from your Destiny! It's never too late, because God place your gifts, talents, and abilities inside of you so when you finally pick up the call, Destiny will SPEAK!Saturday, December 31, 2011 -(Excerpt)When I returned from seeing my son and his family in Dallas, Texas, my internet was cutoff. Immediately, the negative thoughts rushed in to say, that this would not have happen if I stayed on campus, but that was the least of my worries, the rent and utilities bill was due.  Thinking God had given me the desires of my heart, I soon found out that my desires has to line up with His desires, and they are not always material, but moral such as handling your money, taking care of past due bills, and straitening out a bad driving record so you would be able to get approved for credit and apartments without paying a large deposit on nearly everything you apply for in life.SPIRIT HELP NOTES:Psalm 37:4, " Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart."

BOND Sunday Service, March 11, 2012: Jesse Lee Peterson has found that most people have fear, and most men fear women — their wives and girlfriends. Does fear have a place, such as fear of wild animals? We talk about the movie "Act of Valor." It's sad to see adults with fear, especially men. Andrew Breitbart gave an example of fearlessness. Cowards can't stand alone. Fear can cause panic and get you killed. Where does fear come from? It originates with women, with mothers and grandmothers. How do you look at yourself? Jesse tells how he overcame fear, and urges white Americans and all people to overcome fear of words, accusations, and repercussions from the world. We read a Bible passage in which God says not to be afraid. Question: Why does the guilty one seem to get away with wrongdoing? Ever ask yourself that?  There are times when it appears that the real winner is the liar, the cheat, the scoundrel—at least at the onset. Take, for example, the woman who asks the penetrating question about the betrayal of her husband. She writes, "Why isn't he suffering, why is he getting away without any pain. He sinned, he caused the pain and yet I'm the one walking through the fire, and I'm the one carrying around the scars from the burns."

Jesus in this way is the paradigmatic male--showing us men how God meant for us to live all along.Doesn’t just model it, but walks us through it.Women typically understand this better than men—they're more relational.Probably “macho” isn’t the word you’d first apply to Jesus, but in a way he was far more masculine than most men today who are viewed as powerful. It takes strength not to go with the flow (get drunk at a party).Physical fitness – manual labor as stonemason or carpenter; then walking all over Palestine for 3 years!Jesus also showed great emotional strength:It takes strength to forgive (Luke 23).It takes strength to be patient when others repeatedly let you down.It takes strength to receive ugly censure without lashing back, or at least defending yourself.Jesus taught that true greatness doesn't lie in how others serve you, but in how you serve others. We need this message to sound out not only in our communities, in the government, and in the workplace, and evenin the church, where the charismatic alpha-male senior pastor paradigm is dominant! In short, women were expected to be nurturing, caring. One not expected to behave this way—namely, a man—was able to create a more subversively powerful example of love in action.Jesus frees women too, in several ways.He shows that gender doesn’t determine worth or rank.Treated women with highest respect – unlike the world.Completely pure in how he viewed women: they were not objects, but subjects.Traditional way of blessing women depended on childbirth – Luke 11:27 – Jesus contradicts this.Discipleship:Luke 10 – called women to spend some time away from daily chores to sit at his feet as disciples. See also Luke 8.John 4 – the Samaritan woman is more the evangelist than the 12 apostles!CONCLUSIONOf course there’s more to be said:We haven’t even discussed the doctrine of the Trinity – how Jesus Christ was eternally the Son of God. (God couldn't send a "daughter" if he didn't have one.)or the scandal that would have surrounded an itinerant woman preacher gathering disciples…And we've only just begun to work through the implications for the current feminist controversy.I acknowledge the influence of Stanley Grentz's Theology for the Community of God, pp.289-292. For me his work was seminal, and helped me begin to think through this issue. In short, Jesus, in order to accomplish his mission, had to be a man.Not because men are better than women, but because otherwise life-bringing his message would have been:discounteddiluted or obscuredAnd the most effective modeling could only take place—in a patriarchal society—by a man.Hopefully this perspective will prove useful to you in your evangelism, in answering questions from outsiders but also from insiders.

Question: Why does it take time to be fat-adapted when our body already knows how to burn fat?So the body does need time to get fat-adapted because yeah, the body knows how to burn fat, but fat adaptation is not about the body knowing how to burn fat, it's about the body increasing the expression of enzymes involved in burning fat. So everything that you do in the body requires enzymes. Enzymes are proteins that need to be made. It's going to increase enzymes involved in fat digestion and metabolism if you've been eating fat, and because it's expensive to do that, it's going to cut back on them if you haven't been eating fat. Our lessons are based on the prophet Isaiah, but this week’s lesson takes us to the heart of Jesus’ mission as understood in the New Testament. Question: Why is the eunuch’s question so significant, both in the setting of the New Testament and in today’s scholarly discussions of the suffering servant ...

Why do vitamin E requirements stay elevated for four years when we stop eating PUFA? | Masterjohn Q&A Files #204

Question: Why do vitamin E requirements stay elevated for four years when we stop eating PUFA? None of this really proves that long-term vitamin E status is compromised, and that will make the clinical effect of PUFA be net negative after four or five years. But it does show you that the general relationship between the fact that you get more vitamin E when you eat PUFA oils, right? Because in the plant, the plant doesn't have this turnover problem, the plant makes vitamin E whenever it wants. And it has a certain amount of PUFA for some purpose, and it loads it up and so the plant has the amount of vitamin E that is needed to protect those under those conditions. So the question is, does a person, a human being, eating that oil also benefit from that relationship between vitamin E and PUFA that the safflower plant made? The answer to that is controversial. Important note: In the video, a graph was shown that showed adipose linoleate is cleared in about one year rather than four. This was from an animal study. On page 30 in the PDF and 546 in the journal of this reference: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/0079683271900358 … it can be seen that it takes about 50 months (approximately 4 years) for adipose linoleate to bottom out in a human switched from corn oil to beef fat. Question: Why would methylated vitamins increase pain sensitization?I'm not sure. Just to throw out some random threads that may or may not be of use. I think methylation in some people is going to lead to increased synthesis of dopamine. But in general, the effect is going to be to decrease the tonic pool of dopamine. There's going to be some degree to which it decreases other neuro-transmitters. And it's possible that if, particularly, if glycine is not stabilized, that you're going to lose the inhibitory effect of glycine and that you might also lose the effect of ambient glycine in coactivating NMDA receptors. Now off the top of my head, I would think that you would want the glycine there to support. If you would like to be part of the next live Ask Me Anything About Nutrition, sign up for the CMJ Masterpass, which includes access to these live Zoom sessions, a private discussion group, premium features on all my content, and hundreds of dollars of exclusive discounts. Why would ferritin and B12 increase on a low-calorie keto diet? | Masterjohn Q&A Files #195

Question: Why would ferritin and B12 increase on a low-calorie keto diet?Ferritin is very strongly influenced by inflammation, oxidative stress. And so if the iron status is not changing and the ferritin is going up and then down, to me that suggests that oxidative stress or inflammation is increasing in the hypocaloric state. I was thinking maybe there's more PUFAs and stronger favoring of oxidative stress when there's more PUFAs released from adipose tissue during the hypercaloric during a hypocaloric state.  So, all the PUFAs are being metabolized in the liver. And so there's probably oxidative stress increasing in the liver specifically in the hypocaloric diet, because the fatty acids are all being biased towards lipolysis from adipose tissue straight to the liver for beta-oxidation. And I think that's dramatically increasing the oxidative burden on the liver and there's short term damage being done in the liver that's increasing the B12 and ferritin levels. Question: Why are polyunsaturated fats more easily burned for energy than saturated fats?I don't know in detail the mechanism, but I do know that it's been shown in human cells and in live animal experiments. And it presumably is related to the affinity of the enzyme for the fatty acid. And that's not something that's biochemically difficult. It's normal if there are enzymes that work with any fatty acid, for them to have different affinities for some fatty acids versus others. If you would like to be part of the next live Ask Me Anything About Nutrition, sign up for the CMJ Masterpass, which includes access to these live Zoom sessions, a private discussion group, premium features on all my content, and hundreds of dollars of exclusive discounts. Question: Why do I have a high LDL-C when my diet is on point?Generally in the presence of insulin sensitivity, more carbohydrates, less fat will lower LDL, but in the presence of insulin resistance, more carbohydrate will sometimes raise LDL. And if the LDL is only a little bit out of range and the HDL is good, I wouldn't worry too much about it. If the total to HDL cholesterol ratio is under four, especially if it's close to 2.0 or underneath that, then I would be worrying about all the elements a little bit out of the range. But I would look at coconut oil, reducing it, body composition, normalizing insulin sensitivity, optimizing it. And if all those things are done, substituting some more carbohydrate, less fat may help.If you would like to be part of the next live Ask Me Anything About Nutrition, sign up for the CMJ Masterpass, which includes access to these live Zoom sessions, a private discussion group, premium features on all my content, and hundreds of dollars of exclusive discounts. Question: Why would ferritin rise on a low-carb diet when iron status is stable?Well, they sound copper deficient because copper is needed to mobilize iron out of ferritin. Copper is most abundant in plant foods, except that it's also very rich in liver. And it's pretty decent in a number of shellfish, but on a low carb, steak and cheese diet, not only are you deficient in copper, but you are also now pushing your zinc levels up, which will lower your copper absorption. Low white blood cells is, first thing that I'm going to look at is copper levels, especially if the neutrophils are low. And that would very easily explain rise in ferritin. If you would like to be part of the next live Ask Me Anything About Nutrition, sign up for the CMJ Masterpass, which includes access to these live Zoom sessions, a private discussion group, premium features on all my content, and hundreds of dollars of exclusive discounts. Question: Why would my threonine levels be low? The two things I can think of are increased gluconeogenesis and increased conversion of methylglyoxal, both of which I would expect to be driven by a low carbohydrate diet. Then of course, it could also be not enough protein consumption. But if it's why threonine is being metabolized, I'm gonna be thinking of a low carbohydrate diet. Question: Why would ferritin be extremely high when transferrin saturation is low? Ferritin as a potential indicator of iron overload should not be anywhere near the level that was set to try to rule in biopsy provable hemochromatosis that is just a profoundly negligent approach to setting the range for ferritin. Now, I think part of what has stopped, you know— This mostly is a problem of the binary diagnostic mindset of conventional medicine. So, I'm not saying that this mindset is not useful. It is tremendously useful, but too many people confuse it for a reality when in fact it is a reality distortion filter meant to more efficiently triage people through various treatments or nontreatments. It may be inflammation as you very well tried to feather out. And if it's not that, it's probably oxidative stress. So, I’m not gonna say that’s the only other thing it could be. And for the record, you cannot rule out hemochromatosis genetics with 23andMe or any other genetic test by anyone because there are a small percentage of hemochromatosis genetics that are not in the HFE genes and no one has a panel for them. And so, it’s improbable that it’s hemochromatosis based on 23andMe. You can’t rule it out, but I would say it’s probably not hemochromatosis because his iron is low. And so, you know, I'm highly suspicious of oxidative stress, which also upregulates ferritin. If you have Testing Nutritional Status: The Ultimate Cheat Sheet, I would measure everything in the oxidative stress section. In today’s episode, we’re chatting all about insulin! Dr. Ben Bikman answers many common questions related to insulin’s role in metabolic health, fat loss, building muscle, menopause, cancer, pregnancy, and much more! What’s the relationship between lower insulin, basal metabolic rate, and enhanced energy expenditure? A1C versus insulin in terms of prediabetes, and type two diabetes is A1C a correct indicator? Is it possible to completely reverse insulin resistance permanently? What is your view on the metabolic benefits of ketogenic diets before weight loss? Question: Why would blood glucose go up on a low-carb diet? When you're adapted to low insulin levels with lower GLUT expression, but you want to get glucose into muscle, you're going to need higher blood glucose levels to do it. I think elevated blood glucose is sufficiently known to be pathological that it would be unwise to assume the sort of more generous interpretation of that as a physiological response. I think it would be a much better approach to do what you need to do to get your blood glucose levels into the healthy range. Otherwise, I think it's quite a gamble to presume innocence of that elevated blood glucose. This Q&A can also be found as part of a much longer episode, here. Question: Why do thyroid levels drop on a low-carb diet? So insulin and leptin are both positive regulators of thyroid hormone, production, and conversion. And generally I do think there's probably a larger effect from thyroid production than peripheral conversion. I'm not too sure about that, but insulin does directly regulate thyroid. It has TSH-like effects on the thyroid gland. It doesn't replicate all of TSH's effects, but it does replicate a portion of them. So basically, more or less, have like TSH amplification with insulin.
