Today, I am blessed to have for a second time Drew Manning. Drew is the New York Times best-selling author of Fit2Fat2Fit: The Unexpected Lessons from Gaining and Losing 75 lbs on Purpose and has for years been a leading voice in the burgeoning Keto Diet movement. Drew is also the creator of the A&E Show Fit to Fat to Fit and the host of The Fit2Fat2Fit Experience podcast. With over a million social media followers, Drew continues to transform people's lives all around the world. Known for his straightforward and empathetic fitness and health coaching, Drew has been featured on The Dr. Oz Show, CNN, Good Morning America, The Tonight Show, The View, and MSNBC, among other media outlets. He lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, with his daughters, who remind him every day not to take things too seriously. In this episode, Drew talks about his first two Fit2Fat2Fit experiments. He reveals what the most challenging aspects of gaining 75 pounds and losing it again were. As a personal trainer, Drew realized that he was totally wrong in his approach to helping people transform. In reality, life's emotional and mental side has way more impact on our physical transformations than we realize. Later, Drew talks about the importance of becoming comfortable with being uncomfortable on any transformational journey. Tune in as Drew answers questions from the Keto Kamp listeners at the end of the show. As a personal trainer, Drew had never once been overweight a day in his life. However, Drew's clients were overweight pretty much every day of their life. Unfortunately, Drew couldn't understand why it's so hard for them to follow the meal plans and do the workouts that he gave them. So, Drew went on a journey to gain a better understanding of what it was like to be overweight, and he put on 75 pounds in six months. Drew learned that he was totally wrong in his approach to helping people transform.   [10:05] Dealing With A Breakup Was The Hardest Part of Fit2Fat2Fit Drew and his girlfriend broke up during the Fit2Fat2Fit experiment. Many people ask if the breakup was because of this journey, and the honest truth is no. Sadly, they had problems before the journey even started. However, the problems were amplified because of Drew's unhealthy physical state, which affected his emotional state. When you're unhealthy, your ability to handle stress is severely diminished. Plus, you're more reactive, and you're in survival mode. Overall, unhealthy living causes a lot more issues in whatever relationship you're in, whether it's romantic, friendships, or family. After the breakup, Drew was sad, lonely, and depressed. It was the hardest part of the journey for Drew.   [18:20] The Transition Back To ‘Fit' After Gaining So Much Weight Drew made the transition back to being ‘fit' cold turkey. He flipped the switch and went completely keto. Drew was excited, but he did not underestimate the power of withdrawal symptoms. Drew's body would almost fight back against him with cravings to eat the processed food because he had trained it for so long to eat that. Thousands of people signed up to follow Drew on his journey, so that's what motivated him to keep going. Community is a powerful tool on any journey of wellness.   [21:55] Physical Transformation Is Way More Emotional Than We Think The stresses of life don't go away when you're on a physical weight loss journey. If you're not prepared to deal with the emotional challenges that have been holding you back from living that healthy physical lifestyle, then transformation will not be manageable. You need new thought patterns so you can actually have success on the physical transformation side. If we can give people tools on the emotional side, then they will be able to handle physical transformations.   [26:00] The Importance of Becoming Comfortable In Uncomfortable Situations Here are some tools to help strengthen the mental side of your transformation: Make your bed every single day. Take a cold shower for 60 seconds. Write a daily gratitude list. Say positive affirmations each day. These things can be uncomfortable for lots of people, but training your brain to become comfortable in these uncomfortable situations can carry over into eating healthy food. We can become comfortable in these uncomfortable situations. That way, the physical journey will be so much easier.   [29:05] The Reason That We Are More Than Our Bodies Many of us see our identity as our body image. During Fit2Fat2Fit, Drew was uncomfortable and didn't feel like himself anymore. Sadly, he was going through an identity crisis. Think about your identity without your body – it's a powerful tool to learn. Learn how to step outside of your body and realize that you have so much more to offer the world. We are more than our bodies – it's time to break free of that cycle.   [34:50] Why Getting Healthier Will Cause You To Be Happier A healthier version of you is going to cause you to be happier. Also, a healthier version of you is going to make it easier for you to be more fulfilled. Instead of focusing on being skinnier and getting ripped, people should focus on being healthier. A critical piece of health is managing stress. These are some powerful stress management tools: Meditation Prayer Journaling Getting out in nature Being with family Being with loved ones Relationships Sleeping   [45:45] Finding A Healthy Alternative To Ben & Jerry's Sadly, Drew hasn't found a quality replacement for Ben & Jerry's yet. However, there are some good keto ice creams out in the world. Drew doesn't want to eat ice cream when stressed out; it's a bad habit to form. Instead, eat ice cream with intention and enjoy it. Don't do it to escape any situation or feeling. Always have a good intention when eating something. Self-awareness plays a big role in being able to control emotional eating.   [56:20] How To Move Out Of Complacency During A Physical Transformation The scale isn't the best measurement of your health. Instead, think about other areas of your life that are improving. Ask yourself these questions: Are you getting stronger with your workouts? Are you building up your endurance? Are you fitting into your clothes better? Are you waking up with more energy? You don't want to be on this journey just for the end results. The results don't determine your level of happiness or your level of success.     AND MUCH MORE!   Resources from this episode: Check out Drew's Website: https://www.fit2fat2fit.com/home Follow Drew Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/fit2fat2fit/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/fit2fat2fit/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/fit2fat2fit YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCswymLgKhJCH83HGkCOhiEA Complete Keto Program: https://completeketo.fit2fat2fit.com/complete-keto-30 Listen to Drew Manning, Keto Myths, Clean Keto vs Dirty Keto, Complete Keto & More! Drew Manning is a health and fitness expert and a New York Times best-selling author of Fit2Fat2Fit: The Unexpected Lessons from Gaining and Losing 75 lbs on Purpose. Drew is in the middle of a deliberate effort to lose 60 pounds in 4 months that he gained in 4 months from Aug. 20th to Dec. 27th, 2020. This is the second time Drew has done something like this. 10 years ago, he garnered international attention when he gained 75 pounds on purpose before losing it. Drew says the idea came to him when one of his clients told him he couldn't possibly understand the struggle people go through when trying to lose weight. Drew believes the fitness industry has a real disconnect with many people, and he's hoping to bridge that gap with these weight-gain and weight-loss missions. He says there isn't enough understanding and empathy in his field, and he hopes this experience will help highlight that for others. He lives in Salt Lake City, Utah, with his daughters, who remind him every day not to take things too seriously.

How he would define wellness now with the new knowledge that he has gained since the last time he was on Wellness Force. breathwork.io M21 Wellness Guide Wellness Force Community Power Quotes From The Show   Learning To Fall In Love With The Process   "My mission is to help people operate out of a place of self-love instead of self-hate because once you operate from a place of love and self-worth, you will like the way you feel when you eat real food, move it in a way that feels good, treat your body kindly, and you're not doing any of it for the results anymore. The results take a back seat for a minute so that you can learn to fall in love with the process. You do the process because you actually love yourself and you deserve to feel good and feel healthy. Once you flip that switch, you will see the results because you are living a healthy lifestyle that consistently operates from a place of self-love." - Drew Manning   The Emotional Journey To Physical Transformation   "There's really no better way to take care of yourself than to take care of your physical health but you could do any program, diet, or take any supplement out there. That's not what's going to fix what's going on the inside emotionally, right? I will give you those tools to make physical change happen but the biggest thing that has to happen is that mindset shift. That's where people don't really understand or know how to do that because they look at physical transformation as just physical. And, yes, if you break it down, yes, you eat fewer calories, you work out, and that changes your body but it's so much more of an emotional journey for people and that's what derails them because when doing the process gets too hard then they won't see taking care of their health really worth it. Making that shift in perception is really key so that they don't see living a healthy lifestyle as a punishment or a chore to get results and be happy." - Drew Manning     What True Health Success Looks Like     "The biggest thing that I'm trying to do is shift people's perception of what success looks like in the health and fitness industry because we've been programmed to think that success is this body of an Instagram model or this athlete or that celebrity. It's this focus of getting lean, skinny, and 5% body fat; and that once you get there, once you get that body, then all of your problems will go away and you'll be happy. But if you're not fulfilled on the inside first and foremost, I promise you that once you get the body, you're still going to be missing something." - Drew Manning     Links From Today's Show  Fit2Fat2Fit by Drew Manning 131 Drew Manning: Discipline, Ketosis, & Emotional Fitness 291 Drew Manning: Lessons Learned From Running 100 Miles To Save Children Fit2Fat2Forty Back2Fit 345 Dr. Zach Bush Braving the Wilderness by Brené Brown The Nutty Professor Trailer Kathryn Dixon Paul Chek | All Is God: Three Part Series Dr. Gabor Maté Eckhart Tolle Loving What Is: How Four Questions Can Change Your Life by Byron Katie Leave Wellness Force a review on iTunes breathwork.io M21 Wellness Guide Wellness Force Community Fit2Fat2Fit Facebook YouTube Drew Manning Facebook Instagram Twitter   About Drew Manning Health and fitness expert, Drew Manning, is the New York Times best-selling author of Fit2Fat2Fit: The Unexpected Lessons from Gaining and Losing 75 lbs on Purpose and has for years been a leading voice in the burgeoning Keto Diet movement. So let’s get started!  Drew Manning Health and fitness expert Drew Manning is the New York Times best-selling author of “Fit2Fat2Fit: The Unexpected Lessons from Gaining and Losing 75 LBs On Purpose.” Today, Drew tells One Life Radio all about his 100 mile run he completed in 24 hours. After training for a combination of 6 week and 7 month bursts, Drew credits the ketogenic diet for his success! Your diet is a tool in your tool belt that you can use on your journey to health! Fit2Fat2Fit Pt. 2 Drew did the original Fit2Fat2Fit journey back in 2011 gaining 75 lbs on purpose in 6 months! The biggest lesson Drew learned for sure was empathy for those that struggle and the importance of it in this industry! No one cares how much you know, until they know how much you care first! Drew is mainly doing this to spread the message of EMPATHY this time. In four months, gained 62.4 lbs, 12.5” gained in my waist, 9.5” gained in my hips, and 17.8% body fat gained. Drew did this all in 4 months! Drew Manning is back on his joinery from Fit2Fat2Fit! This week, he has started grocery shopping properly, stitching, meditations, affirmations, and a gratitude list. On the week of January 4th, Drew will start his journey back towards fit! Drew timed his journey back to fitness around the holidays, but who wouldn’t!  Dr. Jonny Bowden Dr. Jonny earned six certifications in personal training and fitness. Jonny Bowden is known as The Nutrition Myth Buster and is a nationally known expert on weight loss and health. He is the best-selling author of 15 books, including “The Great Cholesterol Myth” and “The Most Effective Ways to Live Longer.” He has a Masters degree in psychology, a PhD in holistic nutrition, and is board certified by the American College of Nutrition. His books include “Living Low Carb,” “Smart Fat,” “The Great Cholesterol Myth” and “The 150 Healthiest Foods On Earth.” The True Cause Of All Illnesses Dr. Jonny Bowden has COVID! Oh no! Bur Dr. Jonny is optimistic. While we look at things like hurricanes, we should look at the hosts of the viruses. Besides doubling up on vitamin D, Dr. Jonny has also doubled up on things like NAC.  The hormone insulin helps control the amount of sugar (glucose) in the blood. With insulin resistance, the body's cells don't respond normally to insulin. Glucose can't enter the cells as easily, so it builds up in the blood. This can eventually lead to type 2 diabetes. Everyone’s insulin tolerance and needs are different. But when you try to deny yourself sugar or overload your body, your insulin stops working. This is the most pervasive diagnosis in the world!  Insulin resistance typically has no symptoms. But when you come down with an illness, even COVID, you need to look at insulin resistance!  Thank You! A big thank you to our guests, Drew Manning and Dr. Jonny Bowden! Monica says that at the beginning of new romantic relationships, we can often confuse love for merely lust. Steer clear of becoming intimate too quickly in a new relationship! Becoming intimate too early can confuse the brain and not allow you to make logical decisions about the relationship. Always remember to practice mindfulness! Our brain can lie to us, so remember to pay attention to relationship red flags. Communication and dedication are what makes relationships fun, so remember to take time to enjoy the little things. In this interview, I'm with health and fitness expert Drew Manning. In this episode, Drew opens the show explaining his Fit2Fat2Fit movement. Drew has always been in phenomenal shape – he couldn’t understand what his overweight clients were going through. In order to understand, Drew gained 75 lbs and lost it again. Drew talks about the difference between burning sugar and fat and why he ultimately decided to follow a ketogenic lifestyle. Stay tuned to hear Drew discuss gratitude and how to avoid the keto flu.   [04:00] About Drew Manning Drew had never been overweight in his life. He couldn’t understand his clients – they wouldn’t go to the gym and wouldn’t eat healthily. Drew decided to gain weight to understand his clients better. At first, gaining weight was fun. Cereal and soda taste amazing. The first few months were easy. Then, it shifted. Going up the stairs was difficult, and he started snoring. Plus, Drew was greatly affected mentally and emotionally. He didn’t know who he was when he was out of shape. It opened his eyes, and helped him find his meaning. When Drew switched back to eating healthy foods, he felt miserable. Drew suffered from headaches, a severe lack of energy, and mood swings.   [12:15] The Fit2Fat2Fit Movement In 2011, Drew started with zero connections. A fitness blogger posted his story, and Yahoo picked it up. Drew’s website crashed because all sorts of TV shows were trying to get ahold of him. Eight years later, Drew is still talking about his story and has two seasons of his TV show.   [16:10] Why Drew Chose the Ketogenic Lifestyle Drew likes to do experiments on his body. He found out there were all sorts of scientific research on the ketogenic diet. Drew did a sixty-day experiment on himself. He didn’t lose any weight, fat, or muscle, but he felt amazing. Drew went from eating six meals a day to eating two meals a day. His brain has never felt so mentally clear. Plus, his digestion is better. No longer did Drew feel like he was a slave to food.   [21:15] The Difference Between Clean and Dirty Keto   When Drew first started the ketogenic lifestyle, he simply cut carbs. It was an uneducated form of keto. There are different levels of keto. You can keep taking amazing steps – Drew is always changing, evolving, and upgrading. Drew uses a whole foods approach. In America, there are convenient keto options, even though they are not the cleanest ingredients. Dirty keto has evolved and become more popular. Drew suggests people stop eating nuts and dairy if they are still feeling inflamed. “Just because you are in ketosis, doesn’t mean you’re healthier.” -Drew Manning   [28:45] Following Keto Without a Gallbladder   People without a gallbladder have a hard time digesting fats in a keto diet. Drew found an enzyme that will assist most people with their digestion. Gallbladder removal is the number one surgery in the United States.   [30:00] The Difference Between Burning Sugar and Burning Fat Most people are sugar burners because they have cereal for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch, and pasta for dinner. When you eat fewer carbs, your body will retain less water. When you retain less water, you miss out on essential minerals. Therefore, when you transition to the keto diet, you will experience the keto flu because of an imbalance of electrolytes. When Drew says electrolytes, he does not mean Gatorade! Drew tells people to take sodium, magnesium, and potassium. Plus, you need to be drinking a lot more water.   [32:50] The Habit of Practicing Gratitude “Anytime you hit rock bottom, you become a better version of yourself.” -Drew Manning People overlook the importance of overcoming mental challenges to make keto a lifestyle change. Gratitude is a daily task that Drew asks people to do. If you write three things that you are grateful for, then throughout the day, you will look at situations in your life differently. Complete Keto is about a complete transformation rather than just a physical transformation.   [40:55] Drinking Keto Coffee Drew’s favorite keto product is keto coffee. He uses MCT oil powder and his salted caramel keto meal replacement with collagen. Drew uses Purity Coffee for his beans.   AND MUCH MORE!   Resources from this episode: Drew’s Website Follow Drew Manning Facebook Instagram Twitter YouTube Read Complete Keto Listen to the Fit2Fat2Fit Experience Check out Dominic D’Agostino Watch Drew Manning on Dr. Oz Join the CK30 Keto Challenge Join the Keto Kamp Academy  WatchKeto Kamp on YouTube    Disclaimer: This podcast is for information purposes only. This 100-mile run challenge for Operation Underground Railroad wasn't quite the same as Fit2Fat2Fit which was more of a long-term physical, traumatic experience but it was also emotional and mental which was my biggest takeaway from it. I've also done other smaller experiments here and there but this 100-mile run was 24 hours of suffering for the greater good. Sometimes that's what it takes to raise the human consciousness and realize that it's time to change. These operations are always in conjunction with law enforcement throughout the world. Once victims are rescued, a comprehensive process involving justice for the perpetrators and recovery and rehabilitation for the survivors begins. It is time for private citizens and organizations to rise up and help. It is our duty as free and blessed people. Domestic ServicesO.U.R. salutes our nation's law enforcement officers and prosecutors at the federal, state and local levels who protect our country's children. Law enforcement professionals skillfully investigate, arrest and prosecute those who violate children. Our nation's police efforts to protect children in the U.S. are light years ahead of many, if not all other countries. O.U.R. acknowledges the expertise and extraordinary work done by these dedicated men and women who bravely battle the scourge of child sexual exploitation. The fact that sometimes it takes us to do something crazy or different to raise awareness in our society. How he was misguided as a child to thinking that suffering was part of his self-worth and being a better person. Living an authentic life for yourself rather than acting a certain way or enduring obstacles for others. Why he puts himself through challenges like running 100 miles or Fit2Fat2Fat from a place of self-love rather than self-hate. The benefit of creating your own struggles and challenges to work through so that you can be resistant when the unexpected comes your way. Why doing the same types of workouts and routine actually leads him to experience burn out and go through the motions. The challenge of losing weight, getting in shape, and loving when your body when you're unhappy in the first place. How telling the public about his goal to run 100 miles actually helped motivate and hold himself accountable to his goal. Why he specifically chose Operation Underground Railroad to help raise money for them with his 100-mile run. How we can make Operation Underground Railroad's mission known throughout the USA and beyond through the power of influence and grabbing other people's attention through action. His plant medicine ceremony experience at Rythmia in Costa Rica and why he didn't feel called to it until Josh told him about it. The power of being empathetic, connecting, and relating to other people and their struggles. The Benefit Of Creating Your Own Struggles How being vulnerable and sharing his own story of divorce, the journey of Fit2Fat2Fit, and other struggles have empowered others to share their truth from an authentic place. Why we so strongly believe that once we have an incredible physical body, we'll be set for life and everything will open up for us but that's so far from the truth. The importance of really digging deep down to your darker side to be able to transform your physical, mental, and spiritual self. Old ways of being when it comes to fitness and health compared to the new narrative of not only focusing on the physical but emotional, mental, and spiritual self as well. The story behind his tattoo, "Vulnerability is strength," and opening up about his divorce on his 100th podcast episode and live on stage at Powerful U. His mission to help other people open up about their truth, difficult situations, and emotions by sharing his own with them. Porn addiction in our society and the importance of starting conversations about it to normalize it and help others recover. How culture, religion, and society shape our way of thinking about relationships, acceptance, and health from a very young age. Connecting how we eat, move, and sleep with thoughts, feelings, and actions from a primal and biohacking approach. The fact that it's okay to shut off your brain from time to time by doing something you enjoy because otherwise, you'll burn out. How being brought up with 11 brothers and sisters impacted his relationship with his parents and the way he is now raising his daughters.   Power Quotes From The Show   Self-fulfillment From Within "I want to bring empathy and a better understanding of the importance of mental, emotional, and spiritual transformation in the fitness industry which is obsessed with physical transformations. Being in great shape doesn't guarantee happiness. Yes, workout programs work for physical transformation but are they bring you self-fulfillment? I'd say, no.” - Drew Manning   Motivation Through Self-Love "When I do an event like running 100 miles, it's coming from a place of self-love instead of self-hate. Coming from a place of self-love instead of self-hate, it's a different type of motivation that helps me complete these challenges. Instead of hating or punishing myself, self-love allows you to create a better relationship with your body." - Drew Manning   What It Actually Means To Be Successful "Yes, a person's body will change when they begin a new health program and they become less obsessed with that number going down the scale but they also become super happy with who they are, they feel better, and their perception on health, fitness, and success begins to shift. Success isn't based on that number on the scale going down; it's so much more than that. Success is about who you're becoming while you're taking that journey up the mountain." - Drew Manning   Recover Faster: FITAID RX ZERO (Sugar Free + CREATINE) Recovery Blend is Keto-friendly, with the same clean ingredients and essential nutrients you love in FITAID ZERO. Renegade Radio with Jay Ferruggia: Fitness | Nutrition | Lifestyle | Strength Training | Self Help | Motivation

Drew Manning knows what it’s like to be overweight, out of shape, unhealthy and uncomfortable in his own skin. He knows the burden of being physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted.   If that’s where you are currently, he can relate.   He also knows how amazing it feels to be healthy, lean and muscular. He has experienced what it’s like to have almost limitless energy and unshakeable confidence.   If that’s where you want to be, he can show you how.   Drew is a Fitness Expert, Personal Trainer and the creator of the #FitToFatToFit TV show and www.fit2fat2fit.com.   He is also the NY Times Bestselling author of the book, “Fit2Fat2Fit: The Unexpected Lessons from Gaining and Losing 75 lbs. On Purpose,”, host of the Fit2Fat2Fit Experience Podcast and the founder of the keto focused supplement line, Complete Wellness.   As a Personal Trainer he became discouraged by the number of his clients who were quitting their exercise and nutrition programs long before achieving their goals.   A fitness fanatic since childhood, Drew had never experienced what it was like to be overweight, out of shape, unhealthy and unhappy. In effort to better understand the challenges his clients were facing he decided to put his own body through an experiment.   He intentionally gained 75 lbs. of fat within 6 months by stopping exercise and eating the kinds of processed foods that are typical in the average American’s diet.   Once he gained the weight, he turned to the pillars of exercise and nutrition to help him lose it all within the next 6 months.   Drew not only gained weight, but he also gained a much deeper understanding of and respect for the difficulties overweight people have and the challenges they face when trying to achieve their health and fitness goals.   If you want to learn more about what this journey taught Drew, and how it can help you become physically, mentally and emotionally healthy and strong, listen as we discuss:   How did he first get into fitness? [3:46] What was his training like in the early days and how has it evolved? [4:51] What was the inspiration behind the Fit2Fat2Fit experiment? [7:27] Physically, mentally and emotionally what happened to him when he gained all the weight? [10:13] How did he eat to gain so much fat so quickly? [11:07] How he ate and trained to get his body back! [16:47] Why going keto changed the way he looked at nutrition. [19:31] The connection between your mental, emotional and physical health and how stress impacts the body. [24:30] How did he get to a place of self-love? [26:46] How the ketogenic diet healed him and why he is sharing it so passionately with others. [29:31] What are some of the RIGHT and WRONG ways of doing the keto diet? [31:31] Does he adjust the keto diet based on how his body feels? [35:23] What is his argument to people who say you cannot lift while being low-carb? [38:59] Are there specific carb sources he recommends? [40:00] What are is “go to” supplements while on the keto diet? [41:59] When did he start his supplement line, Complete Wellness? [46:11] A week in the life of Drew: What his current diet and training looks like. [46:54] What are non-negotiables when it comes to his recovery? [50:24] What does he currently have going on and what’s in store for 2019? [53:08]   This episode is brought to you by Cured Nutrition.
