Our world is rapidly evolving. We've got AI and a whole host of other innovations coming on board and shaking things up. If we're not evolving in our business, we will be left behind. Instead of being fearful of the uncertainty that lies ahead in 2024 and beyond, what if we could hear predictions from someone who studies the future and create a game plan? As a professional futurist, Rebecca Ryan is no stranger to predictions. I'm so excited she's joining me for this conversation where we're going deep on questions like: What will design in public spaces look like in the future? What do design firms need to know moving into 2024? And what is this futurism-meets-design project she's been working on with Libby Castro? This episode is a must-listen for all entrepreneurs, small business owners, design professionals—and humans. In this episode, you will:Learn futurist predictions for 2024 for entrepreneurs and small business owners.Uncover how designers can lead the charge against schismogenesis (and what that is).Discover the impact a futurist (like a designer) can have on a community and society.Full Show Notes Here!

For the Summer of 2023, a dozen futurists talk about what life will be like for humans in 30 to 50 years. Each guest is asked to paint a picture of the changes that we will experience between now and 2053 or 2073. Then they are asked what mistakes we are making today that the people of 2073 will look back at in disbelief. The goal of these episodes is to spark the imagination of listeners about the future we have the ability to create. In this episode, our usual host of the show Don MacPherson is interviewed by futurist Rebecca Ryan. Don paints a picture of what life might be life in 2073 with a focus on aging and the development of space tourism and a space economy. He talks about how new technologies and a move to treat aging as a disease could radically change the way we age and enable life expectancy to 90 or even 100 years with outliers reaching 120 years and beyond. Don compares the current stage of space exploration and development to the early years of flight and shares his belief that humanity's desire to explore will push us to colonize Mars and visit other planets as our capabilities improve. Don and Rebecca finish the interview with a discussion about what the humans of 2073 will be surprised that we were doing in 2023. Don MacPherson is CEO of 12 Geniuses and host of the 12 Geniuses podcast - a show for curious and voracious learners. Don interviews exceptional people about trends and technologies changing the way we live and work. A five-time entrepreneur, Don has spent 25 years studying the employee experience, the attributes of great leadership, and how healthy organizational cultures are created and sustained. An avid traveler and volunteer, Don has visited 75 countries and been a mentor of young people for 30 years.

This week, we again feature futurist Rebecca Ryan in a short episode focused on the idea of what we call in Strategic Doing the S-Curve. Sometimes called a sigmoid curve, or a sine wave if you remember back to your pre-calculus class, S-Curves describe much of what we see in the world around us. Rebecca talks about the S-Curve - or as she calls it, the sine wave of entropy - as she discusses an idea called the three horizons. S-Curves overlap. We can see the one we are on, but there also was one preceding that, and there's one ahead of us. In the three horizon model, the horizon behind us is the first horizon, or horizon 1. The one ahead of us is horizon 3. Listen as Rebecca talks about how that idea is playing out right in front of us, and what that means for our future.
Now is the perfect time to strategically think about the future for our businesses, communities and ourselves. Futurist Rebecca Ryan, considered one of the nation's leading thought-leaders, shares insights with Success Wave host Pat Perry, on seizing the opportunity now, to reinvent ourselves and organizations for the post-pandemic world. This is a high-energy conversation that will get you excited about planning for the future, not looking to the past and creating a better tomorrow. If you are new to Success Wave, thank you for joining the thousands of listeners and make sure you Subscribe so you do not miss one of our weekly shows. Welcome!

Former financial services professional and mum of two, Rebecca Ryan is a yoga and meditation teacher and the published author of Mindfulness for Mothers, a book that teaches you how to stay calm and present while caring for your child. My own interest in meditation was completely lost under piles of laundry and screaming babies when I entered the frantic world of motherhood. But having used mindfulness and meditation to overcome a difficult year, I'm once again a raving fan and consider it an integral part of bettering myself as a mum. Rebecca enjoys sharing her passion for meditation with other mothers, whether long-term meditators or newbies, and encourages her students to allow mindfulness to seep into their daily lives. She's practical and down to earth because as a busy mum herself, understands how tricky bringing a sense of calm into our bursting-at-the-seems life can be. In this episode, Rebecca explains why you should bother to meditate in the first place and, once convinced, how you can go about doing it. You'll learn the three key elements of meditation that are common to all styles which will deepen your understanding and help you to simplify your practice. Rebecca shows you that mindfulness and meditation is accessible to every mother, however busy, and encourages you to look for the natural breaks in your day in order to build a routine that works specifically for you and your lifestyle. JoBeth Williams stars as suburban Ohio housewife and mother Cathy Palmer, who escapes her joyless marriage in her spare time by reading her favorite romantic thriller novels, all starring a Modesty Blaise-like globe-hopping female private detective, Rebecca Ryan. She loves them so much, she enters a Rebecca Ryan fan fiction writing contest in which the winner of the would-be authors scores an all-expenses-paid trip to Paris, including seeing all the famous sights, as well as meeting the author of the novels herself, Margaret McMann. When her selfish hubby tells her he has no time for it, and she should just not go at all, Cathy decides she's going to Paris alone if she must, leaving him and their two boys behind for the week. A curious thing happens on the trip, as Cathy ends up taking a blow to the head after getting hit by a car while pursuing some purse thieves, and when she awakens in the hospital, she not only forgets she's Cathy, but she thinks she's the heroine of her novels, Rebecca Ryan herself. She begins her make-over to glamour and adventure, all the while imagining everyone and everything around her is part of a plot of one of the novels, including the leader of the French opposition party, whom she suspects is part of her mission to help protect. Meanwhile, she mistakes Englishman Alan McMann, Margaret's son (played by Scottish actor, Tom Conti), as her partner-in-crime-solving, Dmitri, and the two get themselves into a heap of real trouble as she dives head-first into snooping around where she doesn't belong without the skills or expertise to truly know what she's doing.
