The Wolf & Action Jackson were so pleased that Oliver Wakeman agreed to come on First Concert Memories to talk about the first time he saw his father Rick, Rock N Roll Hall of Famer and longtime keyboardist in Yes, on a large arena stage. Though he'd seen Rick play with his solo band many times at theaters as he grew up, he never saw Rick in Yes until the Union Tour in 1991. So when Jon Anderson became disillusioned with the pop leanings of Yes in the late 1980s, he gathered former Yes bandmates Steve Howe, Bill Bruford and his pal Rick Wakeman to form their own version of Yes. Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman & Howe not only would release a self-titled album with lead single Brother of Mine in 1988, but would embark on an arena tour billed as An Evening of Yes Music Plus. Oliver and his brother were invited to America to join their father for a week and see 5-6 ABWH shows at the end of the summer of 1988. Oliver shares stories of seeing his dad on the big stage with the other legends of Yes and learning firsthand just how big a star Rick was (and is today). From there we deviate to how a mixing session for the ABWH single I'm Alive actually lead to his eventual tenure in Yes from 2008-2011. Oliver shares how he got up to speed on all the tunes, eventually recording an album with Yes and fun memories from the road. He has a 20th anniversary re-release of his 7th solo album Mother's Ruin coming out March 13, 2026 (click his website below to order) and is embarking on his first tour with Rick in the US in March also. And he'll be touring with his band in the UK in April and November to visit From A Page, his album with Yes. We find Oliver's articulate musings and respect for the fans refreshing and we encourage you to see him live in the US, UK or Europe this year if possible! A major focus is on age and dieting history, and why these factors don't have to be dealbreakers. They discuss how to set yourself up for success without running yourself into the ground through extreme or repeated dieting phases, and how to take a proactive approach for long-term progress and sustainability in the sport.

Minnesota's prairie, in the southwestern part of the state, is a biodiverse ecosystem that's home to buffalo, bees and tall grass. In the book, "Sea of Grass: The Conquest, Ruin and Redemption of Nature on the American Prairie," Josephine Marcotty and Dave Hage dig into the significance prairies have to the climate. MPR News chief meteorologist Paul Huttner talks with Hage in depth about the American prairie. The following has been edited for length and clarity. Use the audio player above to listen to the full conversation. What drew you to write about the American prairie? The book grew out of a series that Josephine wrote when we were both working with the Minnesota Star Tribune. She was the environment reporter. I was her editor. She had come across a pair of remarkable studies, which showed that today, we are plowing up the continent's remaining grasslands. That's grasslands west of here, into the Dakotas and Montana. We're plowing them up at the rate of a million acres a year. That's about as fast as we're destroying the Amazon rainforest. It's an environmental catastrophe, but nobody's paying attention. It's bad for wildlife, it's bad for clean water and it's especially bad for climate change. How do you think about the prairie in a climate context? These grasslands are one of the greatest carbon sinks on the planet. Grasses inhale carbon dioxide from the air. They exhale oxygen. They take the carbon from that carbon dioxide, and they store it deep underground in Prairie soils. You know, these grasses can have roots that go 8-12 feet deep. It's estimated that the world's grassland soils hold about a third of all terrestrial carbon stocks. Jo Handelsman at the University of Wisconsin says grassland soils hold more carbon than human beings have emitted since the Industrial Revolution. When you plow open those grasslands, you release all that carbon into the atmosphere and you accelerate climate change.Tell us a little bit about how Minnesota is working on plans to protect the prairies. In Minnesota, we still have like 1-4 percent of the original native prairie. You find it in patches around southwestern and western Minnesota. But Minnesota is also home to the largest prairie restoration project in the United States. It's called Glacial Ridge National Wildlife Refuge. It's up near Crookston, Minn., which was running out of clean water because of agricultural pollution. And they said, “Look, if we can convert this back to prairie, one of the things that prairie plants do is that they filter water and they give you clean groundwater.” They said to the city of Crookston, “We can guarantee you years and years supply of clean water, and so now you can go to Glacial Ridge.” It's just beautiful, huge expanse of tall grasses and wildflowers and butterflies and bees, and it's a magnificent spot. What's your main message about climate change and the prairie? Here's an amazing statistic we came across. There's a beautiful researcher, Tyler Lark at the University of Wisconsin, who does amazing work. He's become a buddy of ours, and here are just two data points from Tyler Lark's work: One, he estimates that our current rate of plowing up grasslands is the same as adding 11 million cars to the road every year. It's releasing that much carbon as 11 million new cars to the road. But conversely, he also estimated that if we can just protect the remaining grasslands and wetlands in our part of the country, we could meet 20 percent of our commitments under the Paris Climate Change accords just by leaving prairies and wetlands alone, protecting what we've still got.

The American prairie once stretched across Missouri and Illinois, a vast grassland teeming with wildlife and rich biodiversity. Today, less than 1% of that prairie remains — disappearing even faster than the Amazon rainforest. In this encore presentation, environmental journalists Dave Hage and Josephine Marcotty discuss how prairies were destroyed, why their loss is one of the world's greatest ecological disasters, and what it will take to bring it back. Hage and Marcotty are authors of the new book, “Sea of Grass: The Conquest, Ruin and Redemption of Nature on the American Prairie.”

Hour 1 - Live from snow show number one! Wiggy is sticking by his take that a loss would be horrible for Pats. Schiem joins him as he is supremely confident in the Pats on Sunday,
In this special in-person interview, Jim Rickards breaks down why the Trump administration is far more strategic than the media portrays, explaining the "flood the zone" tactic and Scott Bessent's "Three Arrows" approach to bringing down the debt-to-GDP ratio. Jim dismantles the popular "debasement trade" narrative, revealing that foreign central banks are not dumping Treasuries and that the real risk lies in the Eurodollar market and the $1 quadrillion derivatives system underpinning global finance. He warns that stablecoins are quietly hoarding Treasury bills needed for collateral — and the risk of fraud waiting to blow up. On gold, Jim explains why $5,000 is just the beginning, making the case for $10,000 to $25,000 based on historical precedent from the 1970s when the dollar lost 94% of its value measured in gold. He also offers a bold prediction: the potential breakup of NATO as geopolitical alliances fracture under pressure. More about Rickards: Rickards is a New York Times bestselling author of Currency Wars: The Making of the Next Global Crisis and several other best-sellers, including The New Great Depression, Aftermath, The Road to Ruin, Death of Money, The New Case for Gold, Sold Out: How Broken Supply Chains, Surging Inflation, and Political Instability Will Sink the Global Economy, and his newest book MoneyGPT: AI and the Threat to the Global Economy. An investment advisor, lawyer, inventor, and economist, Rickards has held senior positions at Citibank, Long-Term Capital Management, and Caxton Associates. The Coalition has reached a breaking point as the National Party officially splits from the Liberals, following a mass frontbench walkout over controversial hate speech legislation. While Opposition Leader Sussan Ley attempted to block some of the resignations to maintain unity, former colleagues and political rivals alike are labeling the fallout a "smoking ruin" that threatens the future of the alternative government.
Most baseball families think "insurance" only becomes relevant after a player signs a pro contract — but the truth is, disability insurance is already shaping decisions in high school recruiting, NIL negotiations, and college roster building. In this episode of The Most Valuable Agent, MLB agent Matt Hannaford sits down with David Brookbank, co-founder of Income Protection Consultants (IPC), one of the most trusted independent voices in the disability insurance space for elite athletes. David has spent 30+ years inside disability policy structure, claims, and underwriting — and he's also deeply plugged into sports law and the business side of college athletics through Arizona State's sports law ecosystem. Together, they break down what disability insurance actually is (and what it isn't), why "loss of value" is the most misunderstood term in amateur baseball, and how families can avoid the biggest mistake: listening only to the person selling the policy. You'll learn the real layers of coverage (Permanent Total Disability, Critical Injury, Temporary Total Disability), how policy language can completely change whether a claim gets paid, why illness claims can be bigger than injury claims, and how universities are now using disability policies as a tool to attract and retain draft-level talent. If you're a parent, player, or coach trying to understand what happens if he gets hurt — and how to protect a future before the draft/NIL money shows up — this episode gives you the roadmap. Subscribe for weekly insight on player development, recruiting, and the business of baseball — with the truth families rarely hear early enough. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN • What disability insurance is in sports — and why it exists • The 3 core layers of coverage: PTD vs Critical Injury vs Temporary Total Disability • Why most policies cover athletes 24/7, not just during games • The biggest misconception: why writers and families wrongly call everything "loss of value" • How Tommy John/UCL coverage varies dramatically based on policy wording • Why "required within 30 days" vs "performed within 30 days" can decide a claim • Hidden fine print that can void a payout (ex: % of season missed requirements) • The real claim rates David sees across hundreds of athletes each year • How universities handle insurance options (and why they can't "direct" one policy) • Why disability insurance is becoming part of NIL and revenue-share negotiations • How high school draft prospects use disability coverage as a college decision lever • What premiums can look like for pitchers — and why pitchers are the most expensive to insure • Why policy honesty matters: applications, medical records, and avoiding claim denial ABOUT DAVID David Brookbank is the co-founder of Income Protection Consultants (IPC), a specialty consulting firm that analyzes and advises on disability insurance policies for elite athletes across high school, college, and professional sports. David began his career in disability insurance over three decades ago and now focuses on independent policy review, education, underwriting guidance, and claims navigation — without selling the policies himself. He holds a master's in legal studies with a concentration in sports law and contract law and is deeply connected to the sports business ecosystem through Arizona State. How did you ruin a first date?
You have to literally disobey an order in California to be held in contempt. But federal courts are a little more touchy-feely: they will find a contempt for violating the “spirit” of their orders. Tim and Jeff compare the Ninth Circuit's contempt finding against Apple in the Epic Games dispute, and a state litigant who got around a visitation-time order but without violating the letter of the order, so no contempt.Meanwhile, a CEQA plaintiff that won at the Court of Appeal—only to be reversed by emergency legislation and the Supreme Court—learned the hard way that "prevailing" on the law as written means nothing if the Legislature rewrites the rules mid-case.Key points:Contempt requires literal violation in California, not just bad faith. But in federal court, violating the “spirit” of an order is contempt.Legislative abrogation torpedoed $1.2M in CEQA fees: Plaintiffs in Make UC a Good Neighbor v. Regents won significant CEQA victories establishing that crowd noise and alternative locations must be analyzed—then watched the Legislature pass emergency legislation abrogating both holdings. After the Supreme Court reversed, the Court of Appeal denied nearly $1.2 million in private attorney general fees, calling the prior opinion "smoldering ruins, not citable precedent." The court held plaintiffs weren't "successful parties" because they failed to halt the project, even though they vindicated principles under the law as it existed when filed.Ninth Circuit discovery ruling survives en banc review: The court declined to rehear the Trump administration's challenge to a discovery order requiring production of federal reorganization and layoff plans, rejecting executive privilege claims without requiring plaintiffs to show bad faith. Judge Bumatay's dissent warned of a "binding dicta trap" where the panel's comments on what qualifies as deliberative could become binding precedent.California Supreme Court limits Public Records Act obligations: Superior Courts can issue declaratory relief even after documents are produced if the dispute is likely to recur, but the Public Records Act does not impose a statutory duty to preserve documents a public agency identifies as exempt.

Sponsored by EasyDNS [https://easydns.com/NotOnRecord](https://easydns.com/NotOnRecord) How should courts treat an accused person's post-offence behaviour apologies, emotional reactions, “weird” texts, or even what looks like a confession without turning normal human messiness into “consciousness of guilt”? Joseph, Diana, and the crew break down the guardrails around after-the-fact conduct and why context is everything, especially in sexual assault cases. They walk through three fresh decisions: Townsend (2025 BCCA 459) on the danger of leaping to guilt from a volatile reaction (and the appellate correction when alternative explanations weren't properly weighed), JA (2025 ONSC 4531) on how chaotic teen/young-adult texting can be misread as admissions when there's no clear denial, and PG (2025 ONSC 7018) the “Godly Conduct Agreement” case where highly religious language that sounds like a confession is ultimately understood as moral guilt and inner turmoil, not proof beyond a reasonable doubt. The through-line: if you don't rigorously test other plausible explanations, post-offence conduct becomes a shortcut to wrongful inferences.
Fill-in hosts Jeff Hathhorn and Jim Colony review and critique some controversial officiating from the games in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs this weekend.

Bobby goes down a Stephen King rabbit hole after watching "The Life of Chuck" and realizing how many movies King wrote or inspired that he didn’t even know were Stephen King and he shares the titles that surprised him most. The conversation also hits on what everyone’s currently watching, including a quick detour into a new show Brandon’s starting and a documentary that gets the room talking. Then it flips into concert talk with a rapid-fire questionnaire: best live shows, what it’s like seeing an artist from the very front row, and the painful question of who's an artist you loved until you finally saw them live. They wrap by breaking down the easiest ways to ruin a concert fast, from bad sound to drunk people to the little crowd habits that can kill the vibe for everyone.
