GUESTS: Jem Arnold: Jem is a PhD student in Kinesiology at the University of British Columbia, in Vancouver, Canada. He is also a physiotherapist and cycling coach. Jem is interested in all kinds of topics related to endurance sport performance and his growing specialty is in muscle oxygenation with near-infrared spectroscopy. His PhD work is with athletes with flow limitations of the iliac artery, which he has first-hand experience with, having the condition himself. Andrew Sellars: After 5 years as a competitive swim coach, and a Bachelor's Degree in Human Performance, I pursued a Masters Degree in Education (coaching studies) at the University of Victoria, where I was Assistant Coach to Dr. Peter Vizsolyi at the Varsity Level. I then pursued a career in Medicine, and completed specialized training in Anesthesia, where I continued to develop a deeper understanding of cardiopulmonary physiology. My passion for endurance sport, and coaching, led to the development of the Balance Point Racing Team, where the primary focus was on applying the most up to date research and testing methods to the development of individualized training plans for endurance athletes. As we continued to push the boundaries of what the testing equipment was capable of, I shared a vision with a young athlete, Peter Obrien, about what the future of physiologic testing could look like. INVITÉ: On entend souvent que le sport est une école de vie. Ayant expérimenté cela, je suis totalement en accord avec cette remarque. Je suis devenu la personne que je suis grâce à ma vie d'athlète. L'enseignement obtenu à travers ce monde sportif est intense, parfois rude mais magique aussi. C'est à l'âge de 10 ans que j'ai commencé à faire de l'athlétisme dans mon club du COVA Nyon. Au fil de ma carrière, le plaisir a toujours rythmé mes séances et m'a maintenue motivée. Le groupe dans lequel j'évolue est primordial et très important. L'athlétisme est le sport d'équipe le plus individuel qu'il soit. Sans un entourage et des coéquipier l'athlète ne peut pas progresser. Championne d'Europe sur 400m haies puis six mois plus tard sur 400m indoor auront été le fruit d'un long travail et une collaboration fidèle avec mon staff. La fidélité a toujours été une de mes lignes de conduite que ce soit avec mon coach mais autour avec mon entourage médical ou mes sponsors. En 2015, j'ai effectué mon dernier virage dans ma carrière en trouvant finalement ma spécialité sur la distance du 400m haies. Suite à cette décision, mon palmarès s'est étoffé. Deux titres continentaux et deux finales mondiales sont maintenant à mon actif. Ma grande satisfaction est également d'avoir marqué l'histoire suisse en étant la première femme à devenir championne d'Europe. Les records sont faits pour être battu mais cette distinction sera pour la vie. INVITÉ: Originaire du sud (cannes nice) je monte a paris pour mes études de kiné puis je reste y travailler. J'enchaine ensuite avec 2 ans de thérapie manuelle (ITMP ou je deviens prof) + prof en STAPS et un an de tissulaire puis 4 ans d'ostéo. En parrallèle je me forme sur qq concept (dos Mckenzie, course à pied, FRC) et je me plonge à fond dans la pratique et le traitement de crossfiteurs. Je passe aussi mon LVL 1 de CF et la certification haltéro. Je suis aussi juge et kiné sur certaines compétitions pour découvrir toutes les facettes, avec enfin quelques compétitions en team.
