It's Die Hard on Alcatraz! This time on the show, Phil and Liam attempt not to explode with excitement as they discuss Michael Bay's 1996 all-star action classic THE ROCK, with special guest Bilge Ebiri! When a group of highly trained Marines led by decorated general Francis X. Hummel (Ed Harris) take over Alcatraz and threaten to launch VX poison gas missiles at mainland San Francisco, the government are forced to turn to two unlikely heroes: eccentric FBI chemical weapons specialist Stanley Goodspeed (Nicolas Cage) and enigmatic prisoner John Patrick Mason (Sean Connery), the only man to have ever escape from the legendary penitentiary. Phil, Liam and Bilge discuss their memories of seeing this iconic movie upon its initial release, and their respective relationships with it over the years since. They lay out the film's numerous connections to DIE HARD in the ‘Die Hard DNA' section and dig deep on its under-discussed thematics, particularly with regards to its complex exploration of patriotism. As always, they analyze the film's heroes, Mason and Goodspeed - two highly innovative characters both played by iconic actors - and debate whether Ed Harris' General Hummel might be the greatest action movie ‘villain' of all time. They also talk about as many members of the film's astonishing supporting cast as time will allow, including the likes of David Morse, Michael Biehn, William Forsythe, Jon Spencer, Tony Todd, Claire Forlani, Vanessa Marcil, Todd Louiso, Gregory Sporleder and many more! Finally, the guys break into the ‘Die Hard Oscars' to dispense some action movie awards, and wrap things up with a particularly tricky edition of the ‘Double Jeopardy' trivia quiz! THE ROCK trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3qcNyjj9ZQAt the time of release, THE ROCK is streaming on Fubo and FXNow in the US and is available to rent or buy on Amazon Prime Video, Apple/iTunes, Fandango and all the usual platforms!Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/die-hard-on-a-blank/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy
In this episode Tommy and Derek discuss some 90's General Hospital starting with Vanessa Marcil's debut episode as Brenda Barrett.
Beverly Hills 90210 alum Brian Austin Green has grown up in the public eye. His first serious relationship was with Tiffani Amber Thiessen, who eventually became his co-star on the hit series, and then became his ex-girlfriend. Then, he moved on with another castmate, Vanessa Marcil, and while they got engaged and had a baby, they never married. It was with the 13-year-younger Megan Fox that Brian finally walked down the aisle after six years together, and it was with Megan Fox and her new (now former?) partner Machine Gun Kelly that Brian got to experience the joys of divorce a decade later. Courtney Stodden steps Behind The Rope. You have read so much about Courtney. We all have. In true Rope fashion, rather than figure out what is true, untrue and somewhere in between, we've gone right to the source to break it all down. Courtney first came into the public eye at age 16 when they married then 51 year old Doug Hutchison in 2011. Courtney talks about what living with such strict media attention and judgement was like at such a young age. In other words, being trolled before trolling was a thing. We chat with Courtney about Britney Spears and how similar their own situation was, married at 16, to the conservatorship that Britney is now living with each day. The constant media attention earned them and their then husband a place on the second season of the VH1 hit, “Couples Therapy” along with famous co-stars such as your RHONY favs Alex and Simon van Kempen. We discuss! Courtney chats about their many other reality TV appearances on shows like Celebrity Big Brother and let us not forget that 50 Cent video they were in. Sort of! We can explain! Courtney chats about fame, the potential addiction to fame, living a life in the public eye, their public persona versus the real Courtney Stodden, the various and constant misconceptions about them and whether they is “in on the joke”. Having just had their 26th birthday, Courtney looks back on the past ten years and discusses their decision to divorce their then husband. Of course, we discuss the headlines Courtney made recently regarding their “relationship” with 90210's Brian Austin Green, their public “demise” and the involvement of both Megan Fox and Vanessa Marcil. Courtney also chats about their recent coming out as Non-Binary in the hopes of living a more authentic life. Courtney also chats about others who have slid into their DMs such as, wait for it, Courtney Love! Finally, they chat about being cyber-bullied by Chrissy Teigen, the long term effects that has had on them and what they would say to Chrissy Teigen if they came face to face today. @courtneyastodden @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by OMAZE - https://omaze.com/velvetrope (Receive 20 Extra Entries When You Enter Code “Velvetrope” Brought to you by ROTHY'S - https://www.rothys.com/velvet ($20 Off Your First Purchase) Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 Learn more about your ad choices. Carol Potter steps Behind The Rope. Cindy Walsh from the beloved and iconic Beverly Hills, 90210. We start at the beginning chatting about how Carol was cast, the buzz around town about Aaron Spelling's new teen drama, and just what life was like in the early days when all of its cast were virtual unknowns. Life was anything but stellar. We chat about the show premiered to blah ratings and how that one unprecedented decision to air new “Beverly Beach” episodes over the summer changed everything. Carol discusses what it was like when the relatively unknown cast skyrocketed to fame of epic proportions and answers all out nuanced questions about Shannen Doherty, Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Luke Perry, Jason Priestley, Gabrielle Carteris, Brian Austin Green and Ian Ziering. We talk about all the buzzed about topics from back in the day - Tori auditioning under a fake name, Shannen Doherty's bad behavior, Shannen and Jennie's physical altercation and Shannen's cutting of her hair, despite warnings, which ultimately led to her firing. Carol recounts stories from the tension on set caused by Shannen and what is was like once she was replaced by Tiffani Thiessen who was then dating Brian Austin Green. We also discuss Oscar winner Hillary Swank's role, how and why she was fired, and all our other favs Vanessa Marcil, Christine Elise, Kathleen Robertson, and Lindsay Price, to name a few. We pay homage to the reboot (AnnaLynne McCord shout out) before discussing what it is like to receive a call regarding the BH90210 Tori/Jennie produced “heightened version”of themselves show, to see the gang again and why she thinks it was so short lived and didn't resonate with audiences. That heightened version of herself included played a “therapist” since, well, she is a licensed therapist in real life. On that note, Carol chats about her new book “When Your Child has a Chronic Medical Illness”, the untimely passing of Luke Perry, Shannen Doherty's unfortunate battle with cancer, and what is next for the actress who was part of one of the most groundbreaking, revolutionary, classic, iconic, life changing shows in history.@carolpotter90210@behindvelvetrope@davidyontefBonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetropeBrought to you by BETTER HELP - https://www.betterhelp.com/velvetrope (10% Off First Month - Use Code "velvet rope")Brought to you by BOLL & BRANCH - https://www.bollandbranch.com (15% Off First Set of Sheets - Use Code “Velvet”) Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Sean Kanan steps Behind The Rope. Let us start at the beginning. Sean moved to LA many years ago to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. His first big break came in 1989 when he was cast in The Karate Kid Part III. The following year he starred on the Fox television series “The Outsiders”. As brilliant a show as that was, it was cancelled way too soon which led to an audition for a little show known as General Hospital. Sean got the job to play the infamous A.J. Quartermaine and the rest is history. Sean is kind enough to entertain our many questions about his General Hospital Co-Stars Ricky Martin, Vanessa Marcil, and Antonio Sabato Jr. He also discusses some of his other “Soap Opera” friends such as Lisa Rinna and Eileen Davidson. Sean discusses the differences between being on General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless. He should know as he has had starring roles on them all. One of the roles he is most proud of is his current role in Studio City, a stellar Emmy Award Winning Amazon Prime Dramedy that he also created and spent many years trying to get off the ground. A Daytime Soap Show within a show, Sean created an alternate world he knows everything about getting the help of some of his soap friends such as Tristan Rogers. Finally, Sean, author of “The Modern Gentleman” and “Success Factor X”, has a third book coming out soon and if it is anything like the first two, it will be a must read.@sean.kanan@behindvelvetrope@davidyontefBonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetropeMerch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198This episode is brought to you by http://www.eliterapidfatloss.com Menton David Yontef & Behind The Velvet Rope Podcast when contacting See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

On this special Daytime Confidential episode Luke Kerr, Jamey Giddens, Mike Jubinville and Jillian Bowe dive into the news that General Hospital executive producer Frank Valentini has bumped soap opera legend Genie Francis to recurring. The DC gang explores the importance of Genie Francis and her character Laura Spencer having an active role on the show and in Port Charles. Under Valentini's stewardship General Hospital has gone from having a long track record as one of the best soaps at casting new generations of actors–like Genie Francis, Kin Shriner, Anthony Geary, Steve Burton, Maurice Benard, Vanessa Marcil, Sarah Brown, Tyler Christopher, Amber Tamblyn, Jonathan Jackson, Scott Clifton and Drew Garrett–to arguably the worst at casting fresh faces. Should Valentini be fired if the debacle with Genie Francis' contract is not rectified? All this and much more on this special Daytime Confidential episode!
