DescriptionRoyal Albert Hall: A Regal Stage for Icons in 60 Seconds. Take a minute to get the scoop!Fun FactWhen Led Zeppelin played Royal Albert Hall in 1970, their performance was so powerful that the venue's management banned rock concerts for a while! Time to get those lighters in the air, Slackers! From the late 80's into the early 90's, there was no shortage of amazing live music. The “hair” bands of the time were hitting on all cylinders, with live shows rivaling anything that came before or since. With the bands from the Sunset Strip already used to the competitive nature of the music industry, opening acts would try to outperform the headliners - and more often than not, the headliners would take that challenge head on. Sometimes the opener, with less staging, less lighting, & less people in the crowd, would absolutely destroy the headliner! However, if you ever saw Mötley Crüe on the Dr. Feelgood tour, you know that no opening act was touching them live! While my memory is awfully hazy 36 years after my very first concert, this is my best recollection of all the tours that I was able to catch during my early to late teens. What a glorious time for rock music!

The diversity of Irish whiskey today is in a new league compared to just 20 years ago when a few big brands dominated the market. One of the things that defines a modern Irish whiskey is the story behind it, and few have as compelling a story as Slane Irish Whiskey. Distilled on the grounds of Slane Castle—a site famous in part for hosting huge outdoor rock concerts since the 1980s—the brand uses water from the mythologically important River Boyne and homegrown grain, prioritizes measurable sustainability practices, and weaves the legacy of its rock-n-roll history into their finished products. We are thrilled to be joined this week by Slane Irish Whiskey co-founder and global brand ambassador Alex Conyngham. We speak with Alex about growing up at Slane Castle, his family's environmental legacy, and what it was like to build a competitive global brand in a competitive spirits marketplace. We also discuss what it means to be truly sustainable in the distilling world, as well as how artisan food and drink producers collaborate to support one another in the Boyne Valley.Dyed Green is a project of Bog & Thunder, whose mission is to highlight the best of Irish food and culture, through food tours, events, and media. Austen Tayshus is always, as a matter of principle, pushing the boundaries, and entering the quagmire of Political Correctness throwing hand grenades all to stomp on narrow-mindedness and mediocrity to wake people up to alternative ideas. He performs anywhere-from outback bowls clubs, to hipster pubs in Melbourne and Adelaide, Universities, Theatres, and Rock Concerts all over Australia, to refine and define his craft. When he strides on stage no-one he knows what is going to happen. He can improvise brilliantly, impersonate creatively, offend everyone, satirise anything and talk louder than anyone. He magically creates a masterful night of gut- laughing totally uncensored, exciting entertainment Some people don't like it, so he goes in harder. He shakes it up. He can control anY audience. If they do not like it, they should have stayed at home. This is how he makes a living. Driving thousands of kilometres, a year, he has seen more of Australia than any other performer. He keeps doing it because he loves it. His biggest hit ‘Australiana,'broke sales records in Australia in 1983. It was on top of the charts for 13 weeks and was the biggest selling single of the year and remains the biggest selling Australian Single EVER. But it is his love of Stand-Up that rules his life. He is a complete master at it. No audience, no hecklers, no drunken behaviour escapes his sharp tongue. He has never been one for the comfortable life, the easy fix, the day job, the tv talk show noddy drip feed, the comfort zone or the chasing of accolades.
The year is 2003 and wrestling is in a good place. The early 2000s independents are set up and becoming the cult hits they were, TNA has found its footing after early launch scandals, and WWE is chugging along on the road to Wrestlemania 19, where for the last time ever, we would see the iconic rivalry of Stone Cold and The Rock. Prior to their last match, The Rock would host a concert, as his talents far exceeded just WWE as he was Hollywood now. He would do it again a month later prior to his match with Goldberg, both times we were blessed with the vocal talent of The Rock, to an extent, and both times the concerts were cut short Twitch.tv's MissMicheleJean (@MissMicheleJean) and Muzicchik (@Muzicchick) join the pod to enjoy the first two Rock Concerts, share concert stories, discuss The Rock's filmography, raise awareness for violence against guitars, and more. But the way we process sound in our ears is a part of the peripheral nervous system so I say close enough!Come and listen to learn a little bit more about your auditory system, your peripheral nervous system, hair cells, and the absolutely insane feat of biological engineering that allows for sound to go from your surroundings to your brain. From radios to records and teens with allowances to teens with part-time jobs, the history of the American concert began in earnest with technological and cultural changes after World War II. That history may be shorter than a lot of music fans think. Rock journalist and author Marc Myers recalls that timeline in his unputdownable new book Rock Concert: An Oral History as Told by the Artists, Backstage Insiders, and Fans Who Were There packed with nearly 100 interviews with the musicians, fans, sound engineers. roadies, and music executives who are part of helping all of us enjoy decades of important life moments via live music performances. From the Beatles and Dylan to the iconic Live Aid, Myers helps us remember some of our most favorite concerts, shares with us his personal memories, and offers a fascinating take on what could be a very exciting future of live music performances. As time marches on, many of the legendary rock acts that have been part of our culture for decades retire. Even more tragically, each year a few of these icons pass away. However, this year stands to be a memorable one, with some acts coming out of retirement (Motley Crue), and some embarking on yet another “Farewell” tour (Ozzy Osbourne, KISS). Metallica will headline Festivals in 2020. Whatever the reason, now is a good time to catch these classic acts. Time waits for no one, and one day we all will wish we could see a certain group “just one more time”. Here is a video I made going over just a few of the larger bands that have announced tours for 2020. Life is short, buy the concert tickets.
