In this episode, we dive into what it means to really stand for Jesus Christ. Let's explore why faith isn't something to keep quiet about. If people proudly announce life-changing news, why wouldn't we be just as loud about the most important thing—eternal life? This episode will encourage you to be gangsta for Christ and explain what that confidence can do for advancing God's kingdom. One of my biggest FAQs is, “How do you survive and thrive when you have only littles?” Followed closely by, “How do you find balance and meet the needs of so many different ages when you're mothering multiple stages?” And finally, “How do you adjust to being needed less and losing some of your primary role in your kids' lives as they age?”Clearly, moms are hungry for solid principles on which to build their motherhood skills at every stage and age. While this episode is hardly an exhaustive study of how to engage with every phase our children might go through, it is a great jumping off point for biblical truths that will serve you well as your children grow, and your role changes. Be encouraged that the Lord is not surprised by any mothering challenge you face, and He is faithful to equip you with just what you need just when you need it. Tap here to send us a message! There are moments in our walk with the Lord when we may be called to either give or receive correction. In these times, it is God's will that both the one offering and the one receiving correction act with humility and love. Dr. Paul Gibson | Proverbs 15:1-4, 18Proverbs 15:1 says, “A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” When it comes to reflecting the image of Christ on a daily basis, are we a thermometer or a thermostat? Do we act and respond gently to conflict in order to turn down the heat? Or, do we react harshly and make matters worse?

Amos 6:1-7 NIV1 Woe to you who are complacent in Zion, and to you who feel secure on Mount Samaria, you notable men of the foremost nation, to whom the people of Israel come! 2 Go to Kalneh and look at it; go from there to great Hamath, and then go down to Gath in Philistia. Are they better off than your two kingdoms? Is their land larger than yours? 3 You put off the day of disaster and bring near a reign of terror. 4 You lie on beds adorned with ivory and lounge on your couches. You dine on choice lambs and fattened calves. 5 You strum away on your harps like David and improvise on musical instruments. 6 You drink wine by the bowlful and use the finest lotions, but you do not grieve over the ruin of Joseph. 7 Therefore you will be among the first to go into exile; your feasting and lounging will end. • • •Sermon Points:It is easy to become complacent, but we need to keep moving forwardIt is easy to be forgetful, and we need helpful remindersIt is easy to get selfish, therefore we need to learn to be generousIt is easy to become willfully blind, we need to be on the alert and watchful• • •Application:What does the Lord want me to do? We talked about Deuteronomy chapter 28 where God said, behold I set before you this day a blessing and a curse, a blessing, if you obey the Commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you this day and a curse if you will not obey the Commandments of the Lord, your God, but turn aside out of the way, which I command you this day to go after other gods, which you have not known verses 26 to 28. Now, notice here that God says, if you obey, all of these blessings will come upon you and then from that point on there are on the page probably 16 or 18, different verses of blessings. And then he says a curse if you will not obey and there are about three to four pages of curses. So God does everything through blessing and cursing.Listen for more...Scripture referenced:Isaiah 1:19John 14:15-211 John 1:9, 5:2-3Colossians 3Galatians 6Genesis 22:17-18Proverbs 13:13Luke 11:27-28For more Free books, Sunday teachings and bible studies, or is you would like to make a love offering, please visit us at: https://www.walkinginpower.orgDr. Bern Zumpano is a Pastor and Teacher of the Word of God who has authored several books on Spirit-filled living through relationship with Jesus Christ and walking in the Power of the Holy Spirit. He has held medical school professorships in psychiatry and neurosurgery and worked in private practice in both areas. Bern has an immense background in understanding the physical body, as well as the soul - the mind, will, and emotions - not only from a medical standpoint but also from a spiritual standpoint. With his background and training, he has been led by the Holy Spirit to teach "the Deep Things of God" (1 Cor. 2:10) with an emphasis on Spiritual Warfare (Jer. 51:20), Breaking Generations' Curses (Ex. 20:5; Lev. 26:40-44), walking in the Power of the Holy Spirit (John 14:12; 1 Cor. 4:20; Luke 17:21) and "the Restoration of All Things" (Acts 3:21). In this episode we discuss... ways rural pastors and the church can support families in the education of their children. We must educate children:Deuteronomy 11:18Proverbs 22:62 Timothy 3:14-15But what about the rest of the education? Do we need to teach them 5x5 and how many electrons nitrogen has?We take time to discuss through options around homeschool, classical school, private school, and public schoolThen, we give tips for parents weighing these optionsStuff Rural Pastors Can Use Review:Need a new pair of hiking sneakers? TJ reviews the shoe for you!Our Quote of the Day:The education of children for God is the most important business done on earth. It is the one business for which the earth exists. To it all politics, all war, all literature, all money making ought to be subordinated; and every parent especially ought to feel, every hour of the day, that next to making his own calling and election sure, this is the end for which he is kept alive by God- this is his task on earth. - Robert Lewis DabneyCONTACTCall and leave a message at (570) 724-3741Email: ruralpastorstalk@gmail.comWebsite: http://ruralpastorstalk.buzzsprout.com/SOCIAL MEDIAFacebook: http://facebook.com/ruralpastorstalkTwitter: @ruralpastorsLISTENItunesSpotify

I meant to say that the first word is "huper". "Hyper" is a transliteration of the Greek word "huper". Not really a substantial point, but I still wanted to be thorough and clear. At around 4:25 I mentioned Matthew 23:12. While this passage does not use the same word for “proud” as James 4:6, it absolutely communicates the same concept through the word “exalts”. Different word, same concept. At around 27:18 I said something to the effect of, “I didn't even know what the English word ‘abomination' meant, let alone the Greek word.” I meant to say “let alone the Hebrew word”, because this verse was originally written in Hebrew.Feel free to email any questions or comments to ijustwanttotalkabout@gmail.com! I imagine that was probably clear by the context, but still wanted to clarify.Around 13:10 I slightly misquoted James 1:2 (although it didn't change the meaning). Here is the verse verbatim: "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds..."Around 13:25 I slightly misquoted Romans 8:28 (although it didn't change the meaning). Here is the verse verbatim: "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose."Around 14:32 I slightly misquoted Psalm 119:160 (although it didn't change the meaning). Here is the verse verbatim: "The sum of your word is truth, and every one of your righteous rules endures forever."Around 14:35 I slightly misquoted Matthew 4:4 (although it didn't change the meaning). Here is the verse verbatim: "But he answered, 'It is written, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God."'"Around 18:25 I slightly misquoted Psalm 103:13-14 (although it didn't change the meaning). Here is the verse verbatim: "As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him. For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust."Around 26:15 I said that 10 karat gold is 50% gold and 50% other metals. It is actually 41.7% gold and 58.3% other metals. At 30:34 I quoted part of 1 Corinthians 10:13. I wanted to write out the entire thing here because it is so relevant to this episode's topic: "No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."Around 31:43 I said that the Greek word used in the James passage translated as "steadfastness" is "hupomeno." It is actually the word "hupomone." This doesn't change the point at all. "Hupomeno" is simply the verb form while "hupomone" is the noun.Around 41:32 I say, "Unfortunately and fortunately He is more concerned with lasting change.” Obviously, I was being intentionally facetious when I said "unfortunately." The Lord developing us is the best thing that could happen to us.Feel free to email any questions or comments to ijustwanttotalkabout@gmail.com! Show NotesWelcome to FEARLESS! On this episode, we're talking about how a fearless faith begins with fear. Over the years, I've come to understand that a fearless and sustaining faith can only come when we fear God. But what does it mean to fear? In the simplest terms, it means that we take God seriously. We respect Him, we obey Him, we submit to His discipline and we worship Him in awe. And there is a blessing and peace that comes when we fear the Lord.Proverbs 9:10 tells us that “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. Join me on this episode of FEARLESS as we talk more about my concerns for the Church and what it means to have a faith centered on a foundational understanding that our God is a Holy God who deserves our love, honor, respect and, yes, even our fear. For additional notes and resources check out Douglas' website.ReviewOur seventh lesson, on Psalm 51, most epitomized the theme of this series, Drawing Near to God. Honest confession makes for vital relationships, including our all-important relationship with God.And yet although honesty is commendable, the Psalms actually contain some prayers that are sub-Christian in content and attitude.Accordingly, our eighth lesson is entitled “Prayers You Shouldn't Pray.”Imprecatory psalmsPraying against (one's enemies)Latin: prex (prayer) + in (against)There are many imprecations in the Bible, although this podcast discusses only three.137:7-958:6-11109:3-13, 21-31C. S. Lewis and others noted: when the ancient Jews come to God, they ask for justice; when Christians come, they ask for mercy. The O.T. and EnemiesThe imprecatory psalms are in tension with the O.T. ideal of treating one's enemies well.Exodus 23:4-5Leviticus 19:17-18Proverbs 24:17, 25:212 Kings 6:20-23In a way, praying the imprecatory prayers was a way of obeying God's command not to take revenge. It's all left in God's hands; he is being implored to do what he said he would do and deal with Israel's enemies. The O.T. seems to say more about war than about peace, yet peace is always the ultimate goal.Zechariah 14:16Isaiah 11:6-9, 9:6The higher standardMatthew 5:43-48It was completely normal to be kind to the insider; the outsider (non-Israelite) was the other, the enemy.Did Jesus not teach the brotherhood of man? Brothers not in the sense of salvation, but origin. God is the Father of us all, if not in the salvific sense, at least in the ultimate sense. We could utter imprecatory prayers. Do you think we should? Should we seek “sweet revenge”?ConclusionHonest prayers, yes. Get it out. But let the Spirit of Christ guide us.Let's read the O.T.—and the entire Bible—with sensitivity. Be aware of "problem passages," esp. any that might cast aspersions on the God we serve. When you've based your life on the trustworthiness of the scriptures, it takes great courage to admit there are difficulties.Jesus called us to a standard far above the one we find in the imprecatory psalms.God's holy standard is difficult, but shouldn't we make the attempt? "Be perfect... as your heavenly Father is perfect."Thought questionsAre there biblical passages that have troubled me? Have I been honest in my treatment of them, or have I ignored them, trying to forget about them? How do I think it would affect outsiders to the faith to see insiders wrestling with problematic scriptures? Am I afraid it would give them an excuse to dismiss Christianity? What have I learned from the imprecatory psalms?Do I think it is ever appropriate for a Christian to use the weapons of the world (2 Cor 10:3-4)?How did Christ view his enemies? disarm them? pray for them?Prayer pointsGive me the strength of faith and integrity to admit that there are problem passages.Strengthen me with your grace to resist every impulse towards hatred, violence, and revenge.Enable me to live up to the high calling of holiness enjoined on us by the Lord Jesus.Other scriptures noted Psalm 5:5, 11:5Colossians 1:21Malachi 1:2-3Luke 16:13Micah 6:8Judges 15:11Galatians 3:24Romans 12:20A few other potentially scandalous or problematic aspects of the Bible Slavery in the Bible (please listen to the podcast on this topic)The treatment of womenThe Canaanite GenocideHellPredestination
