No goal is too big for you! You can achieve success, but you have to put in the hard work. One of the keys to achieving your big dream is consistency, consistency, consistency. No matter the type of goal (spiritual, relationship, career, financial) – you must be consistent. Mark's word for the year is “minister,” which is helping others. Make sure your goals are specific. Ambiguous goals are difficult to reach. Mark's Specific goals: Financial: $1,000,000 in net revenue Help out 3 people – find a place to live, financially, groceries for people, etc. Relationship – improve relationship with wife, friends. But many relationships can use some help. Collin revisited his specific goals: Urgency: Can be applied to any situation. Defend: Defend your family – spend time with family – vacations, restaurant for Valentine's Day. Recalibrate: Reset things that have been off the last few years. Set High Goals: If you set your goal high enough, you can achieve “success” even if you “fail”. For instance, if your revenue goal is $500,000 and only make $480,000, you have still achieved success. (This is the second part of the interview with Tim Keller; if you haven’t yet done so, you might want to listen to part 1 first.) In this episode, Malcolm Schluenderfritz and Tim Keller discuss the mistakes that can be made while building community, the Sursum Corda community and the 4 pillars of community life, the importance of a culture of reconciliation, and some practical pointers for building community. Potential mistakes Utopianism Utopianism is a grave danger for those trying to form a community. The pursuit of an unattainable ideal will almost certainly result in disillusionment and failure. It also will keep those involved in such a project from learning from existing communities. Worse, it can create an incentive to hide personal or community failings to preserve an ideal image. When such hidden flaws are revealed, the community may well collapse because it never had a solid foundation. Unearned Trust Connected to the danger of utopianism is the danger of giving fellow community members unearned trust. Tim Keller said one should “Trust but verify”. Those striving to build Christian community are just as broken as anybody else, and bad things can happen in a community. Accountability Accountability needs to be carefully balanced with individual autonomy and free will. Any community needs to have at some accountability, but it can degenerate into an overly controlling environment. Envy and Competition Community members also need to realize that each member has different strengths and weaknesses, different skills, and a different family situation. Not everyone will be equally successful in each area of life. If this isn’t realized and embraced, it can result in “family envy” and feelings of inferiority and failure. Community can’t be based on merely human strengths, but rather on the love of God. Spiritual Pride A community can easily fall into a sort of spiritual pride. The members may come to see themselves as the only “real” Christians, and feel that anyone who really loves God would join them. The community needs to see itself as merely one of the possible ways of living the Christian life. Family Life in Community Balancing community and family life is another area in which a community can make mistakes. Without healthy families, the community will fall apart, but the number of community activities may sometimes hamper family life. Neediness Needy people are often attracted to a community. Community members can help such people, but they have to realize that such help can only go so far. Otherwise, such people may end up monopolizing the attention of the community, which can’t actually fix their problems. The Sursum Corda Community When Tim and his family moved from Tempe, Arizona to Albuquerque, New Mexico, he thought he would be able to start another branch of City of the Lord there. This didn’t prove possible, however; local Catholics were uninterested in joining something they couldn’t experience in person. He realized he would have to embark on a much slower and more organic process. He started meeting with local families, and gradually they began to form the Sursum Corda community. Romans 12 We discussed the importance of the twelfth chapter of Romans; it provides a beautiful blueprint for the Christian life, and “Romans 12” became a slogan for the City of the Lord Community. We are “transformed by the renewal of our minds” as we follow Christ. Pillars of Community Life The Sursum Corda community came up with a set of four “pillars” that can support the spirituality of a healthy community: Love Jesus Cultivate Relationships Build Culture Live Mission These four pillars build on one another. Everything flows from a healthy personal relationship with Jesus. That relationship with Jesus flows out into healthy friendships with others; relationships need to be built and strengthened in an intentional way. Out of those relationships grows the culture of a wider group, a community. Such a community, living out of the love of Christ and healthy relationships with one another, naturally lives out a mission to the wider world. Mission becomes part of everything such a community does, bringing people into the life of the community. Outsiders experience the four pillars in reverse order. Somebody is invited to a community event or meeting; while there, they experience the loving culture of the group. Over time, they build relationships with community members, and eventually encounter Jesus in a deeper way through the community. A Culture of Honor and Respect To build a successful Christian community, the members have to create a culture of honor and respect for one another. They can’t gossip, backbite, hold grudges. They need to be intentional about asking for forgiveness if they have hurt another. Bad things will happen in community life. A community needs a culture of love and forgiveness to get through the rough patches. Disagreements may arise about politics, theology, parenting, and many other topics. The community, however, can’t let such disagreements become divisions. We can’t be in a hurry to write others off. Practical Steps for Building Community As Tim pointed out, all this talk about the wonderful things communities can do can be rather intimidating to those just starting out! He advises the following practical steps to build community in your local area: Just start meeting! Find a few other families or individuals and just get together to talk. Have meals together, have fun, and most importantly, pray together. Ground everything you do in the Faith; that has to be at the center, or the resulting community will be fairly shallow. Over time, as the community develops, the time will come to get more intentional. One of the ways to do this is to start meeting as small groups alongside the main bigger group. Men’s and women’s groups are a good way to do this. Visit existing communities! They are a great source of inspiration and guidance. Both City of the Lord and Sursum Corda would be happy to have you visit. Don’t give up! The process of building community is a long, slow one. There will probably be setbacks and trouble along the way, but if you persist these setbacks can actually strengthen the project over time. Learn More You can find the City of the Lord website here. How to Lead and Empower Your Team Through a CrisisOur ability to navigate change is directly correlated to the meaning that we make about what happens to us.The power that we have is in choice. What meaning would you like to make?According to Harvard Business Review’s Management Tip Of The Day: A leader sets the emotional tone and the example both in good times and, perhaps more importantly, in bad.I agree.As a leader, how do you help your team deal with and move through a time of crisis? Before we go any further, let’s reframe the word crisis to change. That one step will help de-escalate the negative power of the word “crisis”.Here are five tips to help people navigate change scenarios:1. Be Present. Let people express their emotions – make it safe for them to say what’s really going on for them. Their voice matters.2. Be Connected. State that you’re here for them, you’re in this together, you’ll move through it together, everyone belongs together.3. Explain Meaning Making. Once everyone understands the stories they make about their experiences, they can choose new ones.4. Choose A Positive Future. Talk about how everyone would like to feel once the grieving is over, the pain is lessened.5. Forge A Path Together. Then we’ll know how to get where we want to go.Our ability to navigate change is directly correlated to the meaning that we make about what happens to us. And the way that we make meaning is based on the stories that we tell ourselves about what happens to us. Now the meaning that we make will determine whether our experience is positive or negative, empowering or devastating.Example: Lots of things are changing, lots of short notice client requests and deadlines.Meaning making option #1: OMG! This is so stressful! I am emotionally exhausted by this, it’s all too much!Result of this meaning: missed deadlines, incomplete work, stress for self and those that have to deal with the missed deadlines or incomplete or low quality work, no fun for anyone and certainly no ease-grace-joy.Alternatively, Meaning making option #2: Yippee! Change means movement and growth and a chance to really shine and pace myself. I will show up fully to serve our awesome tribe. How great that I get to tap my awesome brain to become even more clear, find even more solutions as I focus on the outcomes I want to create.Result of this meaning: empowerment, choice of how to respond vs compulsively react, ease-grace-joy, support of self and others, shine my light, honor our company values, choose my reality.Whatever is happening outside or inside of us is still going to happen. The power that we have is in choice. What meaning would you like to make?Making “Good” MeaningWhat helps us to make positive and empowering meaning?In addition to our internal choice, external tools can come in handy. Check out the Four Factors of Sustainable SmartTribes.Let’s dive into each of the factors.BehaviorOur behavior depends primarily on beliefs and our sense of safety, belonging, and mattering plays a big part too. Behavior is also affected by whether we’re in our Critter State or our Smart State and governed by our beliefs, identity, resources and all of the other goodies on our Map of the world. It’s important to note the nature of behavior. More and more, we’re realizing that behavior is quite predictable. We need to constantly distinguish what is driving our behavior out of alignment and how to shift back into alignment.Leadership EffectivenessDesire is the first step towards leadership effectiveness. That fantastic intangible drive and passion for excellence, for being all that you can be is what makes a remarkable leader.There are five factors, that I call SmartTribe Accelerators, which will help you assess your leadership effectiveness when you interact with others. These help you channel your drive and passion toward results: 1. Focus: The single most important practice in ensuring you are leading effectively is focus.2. Clarity: Being truly clear means we need to take the time to discover what we need, to articulate it clearly, and to be sure the other party understood our communication.3. Accountability: Accountability starts at the top, and this is where many companies struggle.4. Influence: Real influence is about empowering others.5. Sustainable Results: Sustainability is about creating win-win agreements with ourselves and others. Organizational EffectivenessFirst of all, if an organization is to be truly effective, it must at heart be a learning organization, a term that was coined by Peter Senge. A learning organization is a company that facilitates the ongoing education and development of its members and continuously transforms itself.A learning organization has five main features:1. Systems thinking: An understanding that all parts affect the whole and changes in any one part will likewise affect the whole. The best way to solve problems is to understand each problem in relation to the overall ecosystem and whole of the company.2. Personal mastery: The commitment by the individuals at the company to the process of ongoing learning and development.3. Mental models: Willingness to challenge internal theories, norms, behaviors, and values.4. Shared vision: A shared vision motivates the team to learn, as it creates a common identity that creates focus and energy for learning. The most successful visions build on the individual visions of the team members overall.5. Team learning: Teams that share their learning processes openly see the problem-solving capacity of the organization improve greatly. Open, communicative cultures will help ongoing dialogue and discussion grow faster.A SmartTribe can exist only in a flexible culture where learning and communication are consistent.Mission, Vision and ValuesToo often we walk into a company and find wordy mission statements moldering on the wall.When the mission, vision and values are stale, or not aligned, or not communicated in an enticing way, it not only does not activate the reward network, it activates the pain network. People feel a lack of belonging, they feel low social status in comparison with others who work for organizations that are alive and aligned, they may feel betrayed if there is a conflict between what they signed up for and what is happening or between a stated value and reality.Flat or misaligned mission, vision and values don’t just fail to inspire. They hurt. This becomes extremely apparent when there is a crisis. If the individuals aren’t compelled and vested in the mission of the company, when a crisis occurs, they won’t feel compelled to push through.It’s essential that our team lives our company’s mission, vision, and values, which means leadership must model them and reinforce them constantly. If the behaviors of an organization’s leaders are not aligned with its values, you’ll often first see anger and resentment, and then apathy in team members.We find some people may not be able to become profoundly aligned with other people, but they can and will become profoundly aligned with a potent mission, vision, and values.Crises aren’t always inevitable. Leaders must empower our teams to push through each crisis and this empowerment is based on trust. On May 6, 2017, Robert Paylor broke his neck. On national television. During the Rugby collegiate championship game. Doctors said he would never walk again and would actually be lucky if he could regain any movement below his neck. Yet, almost four years later, Robert is telling an amazing story of recovery, hope, and forgiveness. I’m super excited about having Robert Paylor as my guest in this episode of The Modern Selling podcast. Robert is an international public speaker and, in his own words, a “quadriplegic on a journey to walk again and inspire others.” Don’t miss this episode to hear Rob’s story, some amazing life lessons, as well as valuable keys to sales success for leaders and sellers alike. 1. Mindset Rob was a rising star in UC Berkeley's Rugby team, with a bright future in front of him. But it all changed in an instant. The medical prognosis was that he would be paralyzed for the rest of his life. Rob, however, refused to accept that. Rob’s attitude and mindset after his injury helped him get through the pain and the grueling recovery process. “Don’t take negativity in,” Rob says. “Don’t listen to hopelessness. You have control of your mindset.” One of his secrets is to go on a mental diet. Just as with a food diet where you avoid foods that are bad for your body, a mental diet will avoid bad information into your brain. “Audit your thoughts,” he says. “Decide what is good for you and look for inspiring stories.” I love how Rob’s advice can be applied to the mindset of a seller. Salespeople hear “no” all the time. Rejection is a constant in their work. So, as a sales leader, how do you help your team deal with rejection? Through a mental diet where sellers are inspired by the wins of others and negativity is filtered out. 2. Perspective Another one of Rob’s secrets to stay positive is perspective.  “Perspective is a powerful tool. You can compare yourself to others up or down, to what you’ve accomplished or to what you have failed at.” Rob recommends that when you are going through a struggle, you ask yourself, “compared to what?” That will allow you to put your problems into perspective and feel empathy for others. Rob keeps a gratitude journal where he writes down three things he is grateful for every day.  Perspective in selling takes many forms.  “When pursuing a sale, always keep the buyer's situation in perspective,” says Kurt Shaver, Vengreso’s CSO and Co-Founder. “They may not be on the same timeline as you. They may even be having personal challenges outside of work. Slow or no response from a prospect doesn't always mean there's no interest. Sometimes it just means other priorities are more important right now. Don't risk future business by pushing too hard.” 3. Give It Everything You’ve Got Compared to Rob’s physical trauma, many of our problems in the sales profession pale in comparison. Still, selling can be hard, especially during these times when remote selling is the new normal and we can’t keep doing business as usual. Rob’s advice is to give everything we’ve got, no matter the circumstances. “We have one life,” he says. “Don’t live it as a quitter. Fight and get everything you want.” 4. Find Vision and Purpose His recovery process involves doing physical therapy for three hours every day. But remember that for him, even doing simple things is hard work. The way he motivates himself to keep going is by turning it around and finding purpose in his recovery journey.  “I don’t do it for myself, but to inspire others. Find the ‘why’ to keep going forward. You must have a vision.” 'Vision yourself where you want to be in 6 months' time, 1 year time, and 5 years' time in your sales career,” says Diego Garcia, Market Development Manager at Vengreso. “Once you find your purpose and 'the why' of your goals, you can then reverse engineer your plan into daily, weekly, and monthly habits to get where you want to be!” 5. Accountability  Accountability has also been an important part of Rob’s journey. He works with a mentor (one of the coaches at UC Berkeley) who helps him set goals and is there to support him. This is an important lesson for us as sales leaders. Our words and coaching are not for our sake, but to help our sellers succeed.  Inspiring, moving, and brilliant. Values: What Motivates you to Pursue your Goals in 2021? They make you tick or drive you Fear Based Values vs Conscious Based Values Fear Based Take action to avoid Half Truths, I have to do this, I have to do that Conscious Based Allow you to take positive actions Want or need to choose Comes out of wanting to fulfill that goal Are you choosing from your passion or choosing from your fear? Empowering questions to ask: My objective: Help you to be more true to your conscious values Think about a time in your acting career when things were really good. Ask yourself, “what value was being expressed or honored at that time?” Think about a time in your acting career when you were really upset. Ask yourself, “what value was being challenged at that time?” What is really important to you? Why are you doing this? When do you compromise your values and why? What stops you from doing your best? What will it take to get you off your goal? Let’s look at the things that you feel you must experience in your life. Why is that so important? We’re learning what are your fear based values and what are your conscious based values? Accountability Accountability is the process by which we help ourselves keep the commitments we have made. What is it that you will do? And by when are you going to do that? Who could help keep you to that goal and time frame? The brilliance of book-ending. The tool of prioritizing. The most important thing you need to do now and why you need to do it. Rank. Look at values. Why do you want to achieve this goal? What is at stake? Why does it matter? You want to be brave AND rigorously honest with yourself. “Let go of your good and focus on your great.” Inspiring You are stimulated and lifted to a new level. You see the absolute best in who you want to be and what you want to create Who would you like to become? What are positive affirmations that I can say to myself to back this up? What are the actions to illustrate that this is who I am now and who I am to be? Championing Done before a task is done or completed Being your own cheerleader! Trying to bring out the best in yourself and have faith in your own abilities. “Act as if…” Take the action, let go of the result. Good healthy self-talk and good healthy action Celebrating The skill of honoring your accomplishments Make yourself conscious of the good you have done and allowing yourself to appreciate the accomplishment of your goal. Acknowledge what you say and celebrate what you do. How am I going to celebrate the completion of this goal? How am I going to feel when I do what I say I am going to do?

132 Pinks and Blues: 12 Week Year  Episode 132: Show Notes As you know, I love to make goals. I love achieving those goals even more. At a very early age, I learned how to stretch myself to accomplish things I wanted to do. However, it wasn’t until later in life that I learned tools to help me be more efficient at reaching those goals.   Last January, I started a Mastermind Group called The Rising Tide Mastermind. Keys to Healthy Accountability Is it possible to hold people accountable in a way that is healthy for relationships?  Why has accountability received such a bad rap?  Why is it such an unpopular subject? Many people have had bad experiences with unhealthy accountability that feels more like control, judgement, manipulation and even punishment. It is not your job to punish a spouse, friend or employee for not doing what they are supposed to do.  It is not your job to force him or her to stop or change the unhealthy behavior.  Accountability is not about trying to make someone else be or do what you want. You are not responsible for your partner’s actions or decisions.  If you have permission or request from your spouse to point out when they get off track from something they want to do, your job is just to point it out, not to control or cajole them. What he or she does with that information is out of your hands. Healthy accountability starts with a servant heart. It starts with, how am I here to serve you?  It is not at all about I am here to make you shape you or break you. More effective words for accountability might be how can I help “support”, “encourage”, or “assist” you in accomplishing what you want? The foundation for beneficial accountability is a strong relationship characterized by unconditional love and complete transparency. Healthy accountability thrives in a safe environment where there is unconditional love and transparency. Healthy accountability requires fostering honest, open communication.  People need to know that sharing the good, the bad and the ugly will all be received with the same love, acceptance and even forgiveness when needed. Healthy accountability thrives in an environment where people know that nothing they do or don’t do will make you love them any more or less.  Honest mistakes do not make me look down on your or punish you, whether in family or in business and regardless of the size or consequences. Radically close relationships require radical transparency.  And transparency is a pre-requisite to healthy accountability.  For example, in our family we give each other full access to each other’s life including passwords for everything. Hiding things or lying is a cardinal offense because it destroys transparency and trust and diminishes the ability to have healthy accountability in that relationship. Whenever accountability moves towards control it becomes cancerous to the relationship. Accountability can easily turn to judgement and control easily whenever the actions desired become more important than the relationship. Accountability requires relationship and permission. You only know how and when to hold someone accountable best when you have a close relationship with someone. In reality we can't truly hold someone accountable, as if we had complete control over someone else's behavior.  We can't force someone else to be accountable.  We can actually only hold ourselves accountable.  Self accountability is taking extreme ownership for our own actions.  What we can do is hold ourselves accountable for supporting someone else in their efforts to hold themselves accountable. The specifics of how accountability is done will look different in each relationship.  However, there are three steps that seem to be fairly common in any healthy accountability relationships. Simple Three Step System for Healthy Accountability Understand what the other person wants and determine best way to help them. Seek first to understand their desires. Ask questions like, “What do you really want in this area of your life (or business) to look like? What would you need to do to make that happen?”  That means the other person has to have a desire to be do or have something different. You can't make that up for them or make them want something that you think is better for them. Sometimes you can serve them well by helping them figure out what they want. This is more often the case in the work environment. Agree on clear expectations and get their permission to help. What are you telling me that you’d like to do differently?  Are you serious about doing that? When do you want to start taking action on that? Would you like me to help, encourage or support you in doing this?  How would you like me to support or encourage you in doing what you’re saying you want to do? Follow up. Care enough to pay attention to what is happening in their life.  Do what they’ve asked you to do or given you permission to do in supporting them.  Make the call. Schedule the meeting. Send the reminder. Ask the question.  Etc. Celebrate the wins and have the difficult conversations when needed.  Look for any possible opportunity to encourage, celebrate and cheer them on for any progress they have made toward their desires.   And be willing to have the tough conversations in love when needed. Always remember, the relationship is more important than the results. Cautions about Accountability Accountability does not mean punishing them for not coming through, by yelling, the silent treatment, ignoring them, complaining... taking something away.  Those things create no value in the relationship or in their life. For example, if we ask someone to do something or show up in a certain way and they don’t, what can we do? It helps to first gain some clarity. If someone does not follow through on something they agreed to, then we need to discuss it with them. We need to listen to what they want to tell us (not what we want to hear, but what they want to say), and then we need to accept it. At that point, we need to honestly state our truth without beating them up. Focus on exactly how you feel now and/or the impact on you or your family or team now, not the other times they let you down by doing something that you or they wanted. When you ask yourself how you feel or what the impact is on you, it takes great self-awareness to separate the current situation and impacts from past situations and impacts. Some people have a deep-seated feeling of low self-esteem or disappointment with your own life and those people sometimes try to hold others accountable because of that perspective of neediness in their own life. They need to show us we’re worthy and when they don’t come through, for many of us it is additional indictment to our level of self-worth.  They have once again proven how unlovable we are reinforcing our failures.   That is obviously never a position from which you can create healthy accountability in relationships. Ask yourself some questions to clarify what is happening inside of you.  Is this a significant incident in the overall treatment we receive in the relationship — is it the standard operating system of this person not respect me?  Or is this an isolated incident?  Or does this incident really have nothing to do with their respect for or honor of me?  Is this about them meeting my needs in an appropriate way?  Am I doing everything I can be doing to meet my own needs? How do I treat myself?  Am I respecting my own boundaries? Am I saying what I mean and backing it with action? If I’m remiss in how I treat myself, it is more likely that others will mistreat me.  We must practice self-care, love and respect. In self-care, we shift the control of ourselves from waiting or wanting someone else to fulfill us, to making sure we are honoring ourselves. We must begin with self-acceptance, which includes where we may judge ourselves harshly too. Often, those who have a huge inner-critic also are tend to judge others harshly. Self-care doesn’t mean we do everything on our own. It just means that we’re willing to do what we need to make sure we’re taken care of and that includes having boundaries for how we want to be treated. It always comes back to us when we’re talking about accountability. If we’re serious about a relationship, we need to be clear on those boundaries and what it means to uphold them. And if we’re not treated appropriately by others and we’re treating ourselves with respect and love, then it is probably time to re-evaluate our expectations of that relationship. Settling when we really love ourselves is not an option. It’s when we don’t really love ourselves that we want to hold everything outside of us accountable for that lack. Speak up with love, look within our thoughts and feelings to get clear follow through with action to back up our words, thoughts and feelings. If you’ve done this and you’re sure that the tough conversation you want to have is not driven by some of your own insecurities or internal deficiencies, then have the courage to have the difficult conversation. Having Crucial Conversations We recommend that you read the book, Crucial Conversation for more specific training on how to have healthy, tough conversations.    Defining moments in life come from having crucial conversations (as these create significant shifts in attitude and behavior). This book focuses on techniques on how to hold such conversations in a positive space when surrounded by highly charged emotions. Their findings are based on 25 years of research with 20,000 people. Their model has essentially 7 steps: 1)  Start with the heart (i.e empathy and positive intent) 2)  Stay in dialogue 3)  Make it safe 4)  Don’t get hooked by emotion (or hook them) 5)  Agree on a mutual purpose 6)  Separate facts from story 7)  Agree on a clear action plan Our success in life is dictated by the quality of relationships we can engender. Some people seem better at negotiating better quality outcomes (for all) than others do – they work with people rather than through people. They are able to hold deeper, more honest conversations that create a new level of bonding and are able to transform people, situations and relationships.  By being prepared to hold these conversations (often early) they ensure clarity over responsibility, define expectations and hence maintain high levels of performance.  When we let these conversations go by, we let standards slip and unwittingly give permission for unwanted behavior to continue. Crucial conversations lie all around us – all the time: from performance appraisals at work, up to discussing problems over sexual intimacy in marriage. The skills we need in the boardroom are the same skills we need in the bedroom. Instead of having these crucial conversations, people tend to fall into one of three behavior camps: Those who get emotionally drawn in and resort to threats/name calling; Those who silently fume; and those who speak openly, honestly and effectively. Upon analysis they found those in the third camp were more likely to stay together. Communities that embraced the issues and discussed things in open honest dialogue were ‘healthier’ than those who either tried to control or ignored them. Crucial conversations, by their very definition are important and can affect a person’s life. There are three factors that tend to define a crucial conversation: 1) Opinions differ 2) The stakes are high and 3) Emotions are high. If handled properly they create breakthroughs. If handled badly they can lead to breakdowns. Whole relationships can hang on how these are dealt with. And the reality is many people do not deal with them well – or at all. Why? Because, when we turn our back, we are disobeying our leading AND our Leader. We are not taking action. There is a triangular stratagem that your enemy, Satan, has devised to throw you off course. At some time in your life you may experience these: fear, shame and mental oppression. Maybe all-at-once. We will not see real miracles unless we put ourselves in a position in which God can work for us. God works in the area of the impossible. What is impossible with men is possible with God. You may not need direction . . . you may just need to go forward. __________________________________________________ DEFEATING THE TRIANGLE OF LOSSYOU CAN GET BACK UP~ A MIRACLE PODCAST PRODUCTION ~ The enemy of your soul has many tools in his bag. However, there is a favorite of his: it is the "Triangle of Loss." His favorite ... and most successful ... attacks are as follows: Fear, Shame and Mental Oppression. And, sometimes he likes to use all three of them at the same time. The purpose of this podcast teaching is to help YOU discern and defeat this triangle of loss. There is an old saying, "You are as others see you." The devil knows if you have FEAR in your heart. If you do, ask God to help you: to take the fear away. King David said, "What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee (the LORD)." [Psalm 56:3] Go to the Word of God and RECEIVE BY FAITH the power promised in the scriptures, such as: "For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." [2 Timothy 1:7] Fear is a spirit; therefore, you must speak to it. God is love and He is spirit. Love is stronger than fear. Perfect love casts out fear. "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear: because fear has torment. He that fears is not made perfect in love." [1 John 4:18] If you are afraid of someone, ask God to give you His love for them. You can bind fear in the name of Jesus, and cast it away from you. Command it to leave, and use the name of Jesus against it. Speak (declare) the BLOOD of Messiah Jesus against it. It is your responsibility to overcome fear. SERIOUS cases of fear require four (4) steps: A stayed (fixed) mind. Confession of God's Word [1 John 4:18; James 4:7; and 2 Timothy 1:7]. A step of faith . . . action. Speak to fear and take authority over it. Intercession and spiritual warfare (for others or one's self). __________________________________________________ IMPORTANT THE REASON FOR THIS ATTACK OF FEAR IS TO GET YOU TO STOP ACTION _____________________________________________ The enemy's chief concern is that you STOP doing what you are currently involved in doing. You have been TOO SUCCESSFUL; also, your plans for future endeavors are causing him to freak out. The devil is the most frustrated person in the world today; he knows that his time is running out. When the fullness of the Gentiles takes place, then all Israel (the nation as a whole) will be saved. [Romans 11] SunTzu, in his book, The Art of War, says "Every battle is won before it is fought." How true in Christian warfare: even the whole war is won because of the victory of our Lord Messiah Jesus. His death, burial, and resurrection conquered the enemy and bought our freedom and eternal life. Now . . . we take ACTION on that victory by appropriating it in faith as we move forward. Another weapon in the arsenal of the enemy, in addition to fear, is shame. The enemy will try to attack you with imposed shame. Lots of times, the enemy will attack even seasoned warriors with imposed shame from family members or friends as a result of some "slip up" from the past. There are many examples of shame experienced by people of God in the Bible. None of us are perfect: that's why we need a Savior! Abraham (the same as) sold his wife two times. Moses killed a man in anger. David committed adultery and murder. Peter denied Messiah three times in one night. We see that Adam's shame was manifested in hiding. In Revelation 3:18, Jesus admonished the Church at Laodicea to ". . . buy of me white raiment, that you may be clothed, [so] that the shame of our nakedness does not appear . . ." There are several types of shame: Adamic shame Inherited shame Actual shame Imposed shame Every one of these types of shame may be remitted, or canceled, by the atonement of Messiah Jesus. The BLOOD of Messiah paid for you and your sins, and provides healing for shame. The verdict of guilt, whether real or imagined, is shame. It may be something inherited from Adam (who brought sin into the world as the federal head of the race); or it may be something inherited from ancestral, or family lines. It may be actual shame, resulting from an action you have initiated. And . . . it may be psychological shame . . . real or false shame that people or demon spirits have tried to impose upon you, resulting in oppression, rejection, physical or mental sickness, and lack of production. Jesus the Messiah bore your shame. Hebrews 12:2 tells us that our Lord Jesus despised the shame of the cross and his nakedness thereon, but went through it because of the JOY set before Him: that is, he saw YOU able to be made whole and to know God, with your sins forgiven and having eternal life, as the result of His sacrifice. Jesus despised shame . . . and He despises it in YOUR life. He died for YOU so that you do NOT have to carry shame. He carried it for YOU! He is alive to remit guilt and its resultant shame from your life today. You can appropriate the healing in His shed BLOOD for you by calling on Him today. Pray and ask Him to deliver you. You can get back up . . . because He got back up! The Master has need of you in these last days. Along with fear and imposed shame, the enemy will also, at times, try to attack the seasoned warrior of Christ with mental oppression. Again, I have some Good News for you. Oppression - both mental and physical - are included in Messiah's work FOR US. Messiah was driven; he was abased and looked down upon. Isaiah 53:7 says, "He was oppressed and he was afflicted . . ." The Hebrew word for "oppress" [nagas] in this passage means "to drive, to harass, to tyrannize, to oppress." The original word used for "afflicted" [anah] means "to look down upon, depress, abase, humble." Messiah was driven; he was abased and looked down upon. In Isaiah 53:4, where it reads, " . . . he carried our pains," the literal Hebrew meaning is "acute pain; intense suffering: MENTAL or PHYSICAL." In Psalm 41, a Psalm of David written 1,000 years before Messiah Jesus, Kind David writes, "LORD, be merciful unto me: heal my soul, for I have sinned against you." [Verse 4] The Hebrew word here used for "soul" is "nephesh" which refers to not only the mind, but also the heart: healing for the intellect, the emotion, and the will, as well as the body. Jesus "carried" sickness, sin, disease, poverty and oppression - the "works" of the devil (Satan) - FOR YOU! Now . . . YOU don't have to carry them any longer! They do NOT belong to the believer in Jesus the Messiah! Jesus healed the separation between God and man through His work (the atonement) FOR US, and therefore ended Satan's dominion over ALL who would trust in Messiah. "For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might DESTROY the works of the devil." [1 John 3:8] Action, including intercession, is the key thing Satan is afraid of in your life and ministry. He has to STOP your action. But he can't if you do NOT let him! "The kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force." [Matthew 11:12] The Greek word for "violent" here used is "biastes" and means a "forcer" or "one who is energetic." The devil is AFRAID of your ENERGY directed towards the kingdom! Follow this model: Effort, energy, enthusiasm. Notice that most of the attacks Satan makes against you are in the realm of the mind through lies: telling you that you are ill, weak, going to die . . . or using imposed shame, fear, or discouragement. This is why you must be proactive and DECLARE the BLOOD of Christ over your body, mind, soul and spirit each day. (This way, even your emotions are covered.) It's interesting to note that one of the names of the devil is "Beelzebub." The original Hebrew name means "Lord of the flies" and was the name of a Philistine [Palestinian] god. It was a "dung god" . . . a "manure god." What a wonderful title for Satan: "Lord of the maggots . . . the manure god!" Dead blood draws flies. GOOD NEWS! The BLOOD of Jesus repulses Satan and his demons. Speak the BLOOD over your home and family. Just as the Israelites applied the BLOOD to their doors so that the death angel would pass over [Exodus 12], so you can apply the BLOOD of Christ over your family and home by speaking it in faith over them. Declare the BLOOD of Messiah Jesus over your loved ones daily and over all that God has given you by birth, adoption, or assignment! In case you ever become . . . or have already been . . . a victim of any of these attacks of Satan, and have suffered loss of spiritual or physical dominion, I have again some Good News for you. What has caused you to suffer loss: Sin? Disobedience? Bad decision? Attack from the enemy? Whatever it was, God CAN turn the situation around for you. God WANTS to turn it around for you! There are FOUR (4) major points to consider for recovering your loss: 1. Realize there is a turning point - a good future. (Remember King David.) 2. Do what God tells you to do. Pray, listen, and obey. 3. Make your past glorify God. 4. Go forward. OTHER SCRIPTURES RELATED TO RECOVERING YOUR LOSSES "So I will restore to you the years . . . the locust [the enemy] has eaten. You will eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, who has dealt wondrously with you; My people will never be put to shame." [Joel 2:25-26] "As for you also, because of the blood of your covenant, I will set your prisoners free from the waterless pit. Return to the stronghold, you prisoners of hope. Even today, I declare that I will restore DOUBLE to you." [ Zechariah 9:11-12] "Instead of your shame you will have DOUBLE honor, and instead of confusion they will rejoice in their portion. Therefore, in their land they will possess DOUBLE." [Isaiah 61:7] "I will multiply upon you man and beast; and they will increase and bear young [be fruitful]; I will make you inhabited as in former times, and do better for you than at your beginnings. Then you will know that I am the LORD." [Ezekiel 36:11] "And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before. So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning." [Job 42:10,12] YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE A WONDERFUL FUTURE!!! Remember that ACTION keeps you under the anointing so that you are as a new, sharp threshing instrument. Knowing that the enemy's KEY INTENTION is to STOP your action, you now have military intelligence as to his plans. Your main focus NOW should be on developing a spirit of excellence in your action. That's what The University of Excellence is about. There are SEVEN (7) things you need to cultivate a spirit of excellence: [1] VISION Spend time with God. Pray and fast for: A fresh vision, and, A prophetic anointing. [2] DETERMINATION You need "bulldog" endurance and perseverance. You can't be a "pansy" and you can't be a quitter. Be a warrior and remember: "If you don't quit, you will win!" (But if you quit, you can't win!) [3] PRIORITIES You need to put God's program FIRST in life. He will show you when you need to spend time for family, for recreation, and for fellowship. At times, He may have you spend LOTS of time on family, recreation, and fellowship. But don't try to replace God's Kingdom as your top priority. "You seek first the kingdom of God, and all things will be added unto you." [Matthew 6:33] [4] ACCOUNTABILITY Accountability will give you real liberty. You need to be accountable to: Jesus, the Great Pastor, and, Others, in ministry. [5] REST You need to rest one day a week. This is God's plan and is necessary for your overall long-term health and blessing. At times, He may lead you to take extended periods of rest. Always obey Him in these matters. He knows what is best for you . . . and for those to whom you minister. You can't minister effectively if you're worn out or burnt out! "For thus says the LORD God, the Holy One of Israel, In returning and rest you will be saved; in quietness and confidence will be your strength." [Isaiah 30:15] Honoring and keeping the Sabbath will also enable you to appropriate the rewards of a spirit of EXCELLENCE: delight, dominion, and desires granted. [Isaiah 58:13-14] You can't minister effectively if you're worn out or burnt out! Here is some help for you: Healing Through Rest. [6] A HEART FOR GOD The prophet Samuel said, "the LORD has sought him a man after his own heart," describing King David. [1 Samuel 13:14] After being anointed, and successful as a king and military leader . . . the champion of the people . . . King David, sinned greatly. Even in the midst of his sin, he had a heart toward God, which caused him to repent. He paid dearly for his sin, but even in the midst of his sin, he loved God and was repentant. In all his public official conduct he acted according to the Divine mind, and fulfilled the will of his Maker: thus was he a man after God's own heart. In reference to his private or personal moral conduct, the word is never used. So what was his problem? Why did David sin? The answer is: He didn't FEAR God. He loved God, but He didn't fear Him at the time of his great sin! We need to be not only morally reverent towards God, but also to have a sense of alarm that will keep us from walking off the path of righteousness. We need to think ahead of time about the consequences of our sin and transgression. Our Father in Heaven loves us too much to let us get away with such behavior. There is not much preaching on holiness anymore. We need to LOVE GOD and to FEAR GOD; then we will have a heart for God. In David's rulership of the Kingdom, in his official conduct, he fulfilled the will of God; however, in his private life and personal conduct he failed miserably . . . but then repented. This brings to light THREE very important things to consider: Your actions can bring reproach on God, yourself, your family, your friends, your nation, and your cause. Your actions can give your enemies occasion to slander you and also mock the God you are supposed to be serving. Your actions can bring severe judgment upon you and your family. In the heat of temptation you need to consider these things. Are you willing to pay the price? Do you LOVE God and your family enough to protect them from the results of your sin? Do you FEAR God enough to prohibit you from doing the thing(s) you are considering? [7] INTEGRITY Honesty and moral uprightness are the KEY INDICATORS of the God shaped life. The deeper your character . . . the greater your impact! Many things that we question in life, even small things, are a TEST of our integrity. God is constantly testing us to see if we can be entrusted with greater giftings, talents, skills, and responsibilities. Integrity is a two edged sword. It is an instrument of blessing: For ourselves -- We must live with ourselves in all good conscience. "For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. Beloved if our heart condemn us not, then we have confidence toward God." [1 John 3:20-21] This assures us of answered prayer and provision. "And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight." [Verse 22] For others -- Our families, our friends, our parishioners, our communities . . . our progeny . . . all are impacted by our integrity. The quality of our life is a direct antecedent of the same. The degree of EXCELLENCE of your life and ministry predetermines your future and many times, the future of those to whom you minister and love. Your integrity and faithfulness here on Planet Earth will also predetermine your future in the Millennial Kingdom with Messiah. Your position in the Kingdom and your assignment will be determined by the EXCELLENCE of your integrity and faithfulness here on earth. So ... now you know HOW to defeat the triangle of loss―fear, shame and mental oppression―the triple trick of the devil to steal your productivity and joy. Now ... you can fulfill your purpose in life: and be productive in the desires God Almighty has placed in your heart. LIVE A LIFE OF EXCELLENCE!
