When a machine breaks down, it's clear that there's a flaw in its mechanics or system, which can be identified and fixed to make the machine work again. However, dealing with complex living systems like families, workplaces, or the natural environment,  success systems are  not so straightforward. These systems are dynamic, lacking a simple baseline to restore, and they often overlap and interconnect with other systems. As a result, successful systems can be illusive, and implementing simple solutions can easily backfire.    A Systems Thinking mindset helps problem-solvers approach, consider, and predict the outcomes of their ideas, making it an invaluable concept when dealing with any system.  Business system support helps business owners learn to fish rather than be given a fish.    But how can you develop a systems mindset? Our guest in this episode will be a fantastic resource on this topic.    Josh is a consultant, coach, and speaker, who specializes in business system analysis and business systems for small business.   With his skills in business system analysis he is the sole worldwide licensing agent for the Work the System Method, based on Sam Carpenter's book Work the System: The Simple Mechanics of Making More and Working Less,  now in its fourth edition. Josh Fonger is a consultant, coach, and speaker who is recognized as the leading authority in Business Performance Architecture and CEO of WTS Enterprises. He helped hundreds of businesses grow simply using the WTS Method, from working “in” their businesses to working “on” their businesses. What problem do you solve?  Help ambitious business owner break free of the day-to-day and working their tails off by working on systems and processes. Show Notes: Yoyo business is where a business grows and then they hit a plateau and then just kind of go up and down. The business is often their own deterrent to growth. This comes from a continuous back and forth shift from sales to customer service. Working on systems and processes can help alleviate the yoyo situation. It's important for business owners to realize their business is a separate entity from themselves. That allows them to look at their business more objectively. Concentrate on doing the important, not urgent thing. Create the system. It makes your business scalable. It is crucial to document your systems and processes. Look at your company as a collection of systems. Take your biggest problem and create a system and then hand it over. Document it, delegate it and free up your time. Josh Fonger's Best Small Business Tip: You probably don't need more information. You need to assimilate the right information in the right order to take you where you want to go. His focus is on helping them systemize their business for growth.00:09:54 - Working with Different Organizations, While Josh Fonger mainly works with smaller companies, he also assists larger organizations in fine-tuning their structures and managing their systems. The trigger point for seeking his help is often when key employees leave, or there are significant changes such as divorce or death in a family business.00:12:05 - Preferred Client Size, While Josh Fonger prefers to work with the leader or head of an organization, he doesn't turn down clients based on size. However, he acknowledges that the implementation process may vary depending on the stage and size of the company.00:23:45 - The Importance of Systems, Josh Fonger highlights the significance of systems in business and how they allow organizations to scale and grow. He emphasizes that systems help eliminate chaos, reduce stress, and enable businesses to function smoothly even when00:14:33 - The Tension Between Visionaries and Systematizers, This chapter explores the tension between visionaries and systematizers in a business setting. And if you have a transferable business you will have more options for your eventual exit. The topic for discussion is often neglected by business owners because for most of us… it's one of those things we know we should do….but it's painful to even think about doing it…so we often just continue to kick the can down the road rather than taking steps to get it done.Want to learn more? It's going to be tedious, but it will open your eyes and allow you to be able to recognize the recurring problems and inefficiencies. If you're a manager, you've got to delegate the tasks properly. You need to have full documentation and clarity on the instructions on how to do the task correctly from start to finish. By doing this, you could also empower your team so that they know exactly what to do.The only way to get consistent and controlled results is to fully document the instructions for a task. Doing this doesn't only bring clarity to what the team member is supposed to do but it also helps them know what is expected of them.  "If you develop and then document the systems that make up what you do, what your team does, eventually, those problems aren't gonna be happening anymore because you're gonna be cutting out variability, you're gonna be cutting out waste in terms of time and materials." —  Josh Fonger  See Dean's TedTalk “Why Business Needs Intuition” here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEq9IYvgV7I Connect with Josh Fonger:  Website: https://wtsenterprises.com/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/workthesystemLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/joshfonger/  Connect with Dean:YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgqRK8GC8jBIFYPmECUCMkwWebsite: https://www.mfileadership.com/The Mission Statement E-Newsletter: https://www.mfileadership.com/blog/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/deannewlund/Twitter: https://twitter.com/deannewlundFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/MissionFacilitators/Email: dean.newlund@mfileadership.comPhone: 1-800-926-7370  Show notes by Podcastologist: Justine TallaAudio production by Turnkey Podcast Productions.
