We've gone from giving ourselves permission to taking on a system that can feel overwhelming. How can we better balance radical self-expression with the necessities of a city? How can we purge bureaucracy, or are all those old rules essential for safety and sustainability? This episode delves into the "agonizing reappraisal" within the Burning Man Project, a movement to streamline processes and discard red tape.Stuart explores the dusty trail from Black Rock City's anarchic origins to the sign marked 2025. Meet Chris Baldwin: A Blend of Art and Coffee Our guest, Chris Baldwin, is a true craftsman. As a designer and artist by profession, Chris has always had a passion for branding, commercial art, and graphic design. His journey led him to Whidbey Island, where he combined his love of coffee with his background in design and marketing to create Island Time Coffee. Island Time Coffee: A Brand Born from Passion Chris's love for coffee and design naturally led to the founding of Island Time Coffee on Whidbey Island. He explained the brand concept through a Venn diagram, showcasing what makes his coffee unique—from its intense blends to the island lifestyle it represents. Launching Island Time Coffee Launching a new brand during a pandemic comes with its set of challenges. Chris faced significant supply chain issues, with costs skyrocketing shortly after his product hit the market. However, he adapted by scaling back and focusing on growing the business organically. Island Time Coffee's Growing Reach As of September 2024, Island Time Coffee has expanded to about 40 retail locations, particularly thriving in small, privately owned boutique stores. Recently doubling his footprint, Chris anticipates solid growth in these new stores over the next year. Future Plans and Brand Strategy Chris plans to maintain the brand's purposeful nature, focusing on the Greater Seattle and Puget Sound region and potentially expanding to the San Juan Islands. He stressed the importance of remaining true to the island lifestyle that defines Island Time Coffee. Fun with Art Cars and Whidbey Island Activities Aside from coffee, Chris indulged in artistic endeavors through art cars during his time in Seattle. These cars, covered in toys and artistic materials, were a hit at events like the Fremont Fair. Even though he faced challenges with ferry inspections, the experience added a unique twist to his journey. Community Involvement and Orca Network Chris is passionate about giving back to the community. He collaborates with Orca Network, a nonprofit focused on whale awareness. By donating a portion of his coffee sales and using authentic whale photos, Chris combines his business with meaningful contributions to local causes. If you enjoy coffee I know you will LOVE Island Time Coffee Thanks for listening to the episode. Connect With Chris and Island Time Coffee

Explaining the importance energies and meanings that each of his tattoos carry. These are not the everyday tattoo flash, these are one of a kind art pieces. The art of our gente. “What it means to align yourself with what's important” He may not be the one to say it, but he is a teacher of art and ancestral knowledge. Some people paint them, some people do mosaic tiling, some people sculpt around the cars, and one person welded two flame throwers and a stripper pole on the roof of their car! High-end watches, art and cars can be a great investment, that can withstand any recession. In this episode, Rob talks with Steven Sulley, and former professional footballer Kieran Richardson about their shared love for all things art, cars and watches. They talk through about how to get into each market, what to look for when investing your cash and how it's all about passion. If you're thinking of investing in assets to gain a return or you just love watches this is the episode for you.     Key Takeaways  How did you get into podcasts, Steven? I'd done the progressive property podcast training and thought I'd done a lot of public speaking anyway, so I'd enjoy it. It gives you validation to your brand. The trickle effect means I get to meet people, and it hopefully helps my business. Kieran talks through his motivation from talking with his friends on WhatsApp to start his own podcast. Some of the best podcasts are those that are just conversations.     In the football world, did you feel the media sometimes misrepresented you, Kieran? Definitely sometimes, and it's not always true but the public read it and think its true. Now, footballers have their own social media and can control it better. If you are on a podcast you can reach millions of people without editing.     We all have an interest in watches? You know if you have a Patec then there are certain things you know about that person. Kieran stated he had been collecting watches for seventeen years for the love of them. I buy them for the look rather than their function. I fell into selling watches to people and making people face smile. I love it. The moment someone has a watch that you recognise the conversation can start from there.     We are all making a statement of who we are. So we try and meet other people who are into the same things as we are and can have a conversation with others. Just from a watch, you learn so much about someone. You can have a free watch because it goes up in value. Buy it for x amount and sell it for more. You can make money on them if you buy at the right time and the right brand.     If you want to get into watches, what would you do? Kieran stated Rolexes are a solid investment. Rolex Daytona can really increase in their price over time. Paul Newmans, Paul Newman was worth 17 million, and it wasn't even in good condition. You need to find someone credible, who can open up the watch and check its authenticity. Get a service receipt so you have clarification that it's real. The value goes down without box and papers. You have to be passionate about it, so you can track the market.    My money came from football? I'm lucky enough to buy watches through football. Sometimes you have to graft, so then you can do what you want to do. My father and my mom throughout my life they have owned several businesses and I've seen that through my family. I've always been into business. Footballers don't know what to do often when they retire and the PFA don't really do anything to support you.     Once you start making a decent amount of money you stop thinking about the future. Kieran is not officially retired but if I got fit I could play in the Premier League. I have two young children and don't want to go around the world. Some footballers still want to play until they were 40. I got to retire on my own terms.    What's your favourite modern car? Aventador, or F40, and F50. Aventador took Lamborghini to another level that looked more futuristic. Audi is helping in the building of it, so it is a tight car. We love both Ferrari and Lamborghini, especially vintage Ferrari. Some of these cars are built for the track     Why do you think higher-end cars have gone up in value, and then dropped more recently? No one really knows cars have definitely dropped. Things go up and down all the time. Great cars will always come back around.     If you wanted to buy a car? Limited production, and getting the right brand. Some Mercedes lose value straight off the lot. Definitely, start with buying the right brands( A car that they don't make any more for example). Also look for cars that have got a full service-history. Paying someone who has the experience to check over the car is essential.    What about art, what things to do you look for? You have to be an expert in a specific strategy in the market. As far as investment is concerned to ask three questions: is the artist backed by a museum, gallery/agency and an art dealer? If it's yes to all three, then you're probably on for a winner. We deal in contemporary street art. These paintings are going for hundreds of a million.     How do you get into painting? You have originals, which is about quality. The shadow head would be around 40-50K. From canvas to paper goes down in value. The limited editions, copies are going for 100's of thousands. It's all about supply and demand, 100 is not a lot of copies from one artist. Some people buy the copies and have the real one in storage.      What is your motivation for buying art? That's the most important question when I speak to my clients. There is a different purchase if it's a pure investment, or if it's a decoration or if it fits into their portfolio. If you don't have the courage to spend tens of thousands a good limited edition is a solid place to start. Some people like to go big, it depends on your appetite for risk.    Best Moments  ‘Some of the best podcasts are just two people having a conversation.'  ‘Podcasts allow you to reach millions of people without editing.'  ‘The first thing I look at when I meet someone is their watch.'  ‘Watches are like art, it's all about the education.'  ‘Your buying into something more than tells the time, the heritage, history and intimate.'  ‘A watch is a statement of who you are.'  ‘I don't want to lose my money.'  ‘I like to use them, get into them and drive them and wear my watches.'  ‘Especially with vintage, people like the history.'   ‘There is more doubt if you are buying a watch without box and papers can be seen as not credible.'  ‘Rolex and all these brands put up their price every year.'  ‘The best investment is the one that you are really into.'  ‘You got to enjoy what you do.'  ‘Not everyone has that guidance to buy this and invest in this.'  ‘The best time to plan for future is when it's going well.'  ‘Treat your contract like it was your last contract.'  ‘You have got to get yourself educated.'  ‘It's almost about the correct numbers and brands.'  ‘History repeats themselves.'  ‘The big growth with artists after their death is after five years.'  ‘Build up slowly, let it grow.'  ‘Depends on your appetite for risk.'  ‘There is no correlation between different investment assets.'  ‘If you can be disciplined, and hold.'    Valuable Resources  Steven Sully Podcast- https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-steven-sulley-study-podcast/id1434828547?mt=2 -    Woodbury House Art  https://www.woodburyhouseart.com/    ABOUT THE HOST  The Steven Sulley Study is my take on success. In this inaugural episode of the Weird Homes podcast, we meet renown artist, art car architect and intuitive, Lois Goodman. Lois talks with our host, David J. Neff, about her beautiful home, her vast collections and her pro-tips on how to behave whilst driving banana cars. Weird Homes is a welcome mat to the most inspirational homes in Austin and beyond. Have you ever walked through your neighborhood, taken a look at a weird house and thought, “who lives there?” or, “what in the world does it look like inside?” We’ve all been curious, but perhaps none more so than Chelle and David J. Neff. They’ve opened the doors and unlatched the windows of dozens of Texas’s strangest homes for thousands of onlookers. Why? To show that design really has no boundaries. And that we would rather neighbors be strange than be strangers. Like many other communities around the world, Austin can be fun, irreverent, outside-the-box, innovative, dynamic, proud, strange and so much more. You just need to know where to look. Weird Homes is a mission-driven, community-minded social impact startup created by a team of event veterans that takes care of our people and our planet. Founded in 2014, the proceeds of Weird Homes tours, books and beyond give back to communities with investment in smart social-impact businesses. Click here to find out about our latest tour.

It's hard to explain what happens to your brain the first time you see the playa, or the flat deep expanse of land where the art cars roam and spit fire into the sky and the deep dark LED light installations dance beneath the stars. God forbid you thought it was a good idea to eat hallucinogens because it's possible your brain can just give up and walk away in confusion. It's bonkers, bananas, wild, beautiful awe inspiring and has the capability of reducing all your bones to Bisquick batter. Every year it just about blows my mind to little pieces. Anyway every year this is my FAVORITE art car. A big giant mean sci fi all metal octopus that screams fire from every angle. It's loud and big and mean and fucking MESMERIZING. Finally finally finally I was able to get the creator Duane Flatmo, a literal leaving genius to talk to me about how where when and why of his big bad baby. As burning man moves and breathes and changes, one thing will remain constant. There are inventors, scientists and artists holding down the fort and keeping the place honest with big bad tanks of propane and human ingenuity.
