Tonight our very special guest is Graham Black, a native of Montreal who has lived in Moncton for the past 24 years. Graduated from Concordia University, with a degree in Sports Medicine as a Certified Athletic Therapist and Strength and Conditioning Specialist with over 25 years of experience in both fields. Graham is also the athletic Therapist for our Moncton Wildcats and is currently Co-owner of Sportmed Max in Dieppe. A former guest that we enjoy having on, Michael Roy, suggested making an appointment to see Graham and I am very glad I did. We discuss the difference between a Physiotherapist and an Athletic Therapist and some of the common injuries that Graham sees. Graham surprises us with something he is seeing more often, I didn't have this on my radar at all but makes sense when you think about things today. When Graham isn't seeing people at his clinic he is hard at work with the Moncton Wildcats, Go cats go! Winning the Memorial Cup is always the goal and maybe this year that will happen. We had an amazing discussion and Graham is so good at telling stories, especially about when he needed a suit at the last minute to be hired for the Wildcats job. I enjoyed my time at Sportmed Max Physiotherapy and I wanted to get the phone number out there for anyone who could use any of the services that they provide, links below. Learn more about the program and the practice-changing bonuses waiting for you: https://www.osteomentorship.com/mbo ABOUT DARRYL Darryl was first introduced to osteopathy by several of his teachers while studying Athletic Therapy at Sheridan College. He was fascinated with the concept of using the hands, without the aid of therapeutic machines, to treat the various tissues within the body in order to promote health. After graduating as a Certified Athletic Therapist in 2005, Darryl worked at various clinics before enrolling at the Canadian College of Osteopathy in Toronto in 2012. Around the same time, he was working as the Assistant Athletic Therapist at Seneca College. During this time, he was able to help varsity athletes get better by supplementing his treatments with osteopathic techniques. In the private sector treating the general public, he also noted that the general public also got better when they received some type of osteopathic techniques. Darryl enjoys playing many types of sports, but he has a great love for hockey, darts, and especially golf. He hopes one day to golf at the Masters (a guy can dream), but for now, he will settle for a round just about anywhere. In a short period of time, Deanna's body began to change. The weight was dropping, the chronic pain and issues were improving and, most importantly, the depression and anxiety disappeared. If you are a new parent, soon to be parent, one day hoping to be a parent or if you love someone in the aforementioned categories,Please join us for this episode on perinatal mental health. In it, we touch on the power of being understood and supported, the challenges of birthing and parenting in a pandemic which complicates an already complex life change, releasing ourselves from parental expectations and guilt, acknowledging the mental load of parenting, trusting and advocating for yourself, and much more. Our guest this week is Candice Thomas. She is the Owner of the Evergreen Wellness Studio in downtown Barrie Ontario. She is a Registered Massage Therapist and Certified Athletic Therapist. Through her own journey with Anxiety, depression and postpartum, Candice has become a fierce and outspoken advocate for Mental health and Perinatal Mental Health reform in Canada. Candice has two beautiful daughters, Olivia and Ada. Motivated by the lack of resources for mothers struggling with postpartum, Candice founded The Liv Mohr Project, helping to raise awareness and funds for Mental Health Programs within her community.Candice transparently and generously shares with us her personal experience with mental health and her birthing and mothering journey. She offers hope and direction to help us acknowledge a current system that doesn't always support new parents well so that we can move toward a collaborative, partnership based, multi faceted approach of care and support. We know that families thrive when mothers are well cared for and that starts with us taking care of ourselves, building in relational supports and ideally having well functioning, accessible systems of care.I'm so grateful for Candice bringing the subject of perinatal mental health to the forefront, raising awareness and change going forward - together. My hope is that this episode serves as a catalyst for more conversation and movement toward real and meaningful support for new parents. I often refer clients to the TMJ episode as so many people are in need of this care. Nichelle Thomson YOUTUBE In this episode, we shared about her career, covid, and the reality of life! Nichelle's nugget of wisdom was where she dropped this truth bomb.. This is "life-changing, but would that be you will die. So simple but it just kind of puts things into perspective. Right? So I kind of find and I was just talking about this recently with a client, probably why that is on my mind. And it was the first thing that like came out of my mouth. But yeah, there's this idea that we kind of get caught up in their lives, and especially women were so guilty of doing something for everybody else but not for ourselves. I think to a certain extent covid-19 was this for many people. It kind of forced you to stay in a little box with your family and kind of assess your life. Women keep themselves distracted with work and running the kids to this or doing this or trying to be perfect!! these are unrealistic expectations. And so I think that that thing I sent you will die right like like this phone here that I have one. Once I die. I'm still going to be getting messages emails about things that need to be done. So really you have to put yourself first and is cliche as that is you have to figure out a game plan for yourself and recognize when you're getting run down or else you're going to burn out so quickly many women do and honestly as many men know as well Join me at the beginning of every month for the 5 DAY HORMONE DETOX That's right girls, days of truth-telling, mind, and soul-changing. Have you taken the time to pause and think about why you're not leveling up? Come to think of it; you've armed yourself with the right and necessary tools to get you ahead in your business. Though things are doing well, you are not moving far off to where you want to be as far as you know. Look around yourself; the answer just might be there. Megan Pomarensky is a Master's of Rehabilitation Sciences candidate and a Certified Athletic Therapist. She is a self-proclaimed learn-it-all, working in private practice and team settings in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Since 2013, her clinical practice has always been one-on-one, and includes working with children, adults, and recreational to professional athletes, providing injury assessments, rehab, and training techniques. She initially had dreams of becoming a forensic scientist and couldn't get enough crime shows in between dance classes. But when she was in high school, I realized that chemistry was not her jam, and she was way more inspired by her phys-ed teacher who had an athletic therapy background. She immediately switched gears into wanting to be like her. Soon, she taught her and a few others human anatomy, exercise progressions, and how to tape ankles in free periods. From there, she jumped straight into her undergrad at the University of Winnipeg, learned a TON, met some great clinicians to intern with, and ended up going straight into full-time clinical practice at a multidisciplinary clinic and gym once she officially became an athletic therapist. In this episode, Megan shares how her injury and the persisting pain she experiences despite having had surgeries led her to rehab herself and find ways to help others in the same situation that she did. The desire to help and serve others led her to start rehabilitation and therapy training. She got herself certifications and went to have her master's to fully equip her in the business that she started. But as far as she is concerned, her business does not peak up to where she wanted it to. As she would admit, she feels as though she's not making any impact at all. People do not care about certifications and what those letters appended to your name are all about. That is where she shares about lessons on reframing your marketing around these certifications to truly resonate with your audience. Things were doing pretty well pre-COVID, but when COVID hits, everything changes and her business pivoting lessons are gems to learn from. Sustaining a business is no easy feat. And COVID made it even more complicated. Though there might have been struggles during this time, what made her get past through the humps and be consistent in her business growth is something we can all glean from. Megan admits that she could never do it all alone. She's also not spared from the imposter syndrome. That's why it's necessary to invest in yourself so you can get others' perspectives and objectively look at your business and do what needs to be done. How she came from a scarcity to an abundance mindset is one worthy journey worth sharing for everyone to have that positivity and creativity always alive in us. For one to have a lasting impact with your audience, learn to connect and establish relationships truly. That will see you throughout your lifetime. As to the future of online health and fitness, she sees positive responses from people resorting online. “What has guided me to consistent business growth over the past six months is realizing that I was my biggest barrier to myself and doing something about it.” - Megan Pomarensky What you will learn from this episode: 03:19 - A backstory of how she got into the path of rehabilitation and therapy 05:09 - How she rehabs her own injury 07:20 - How her continuing education in matters of therapy help her get clear answers even to her pain 09:25 - What we need to know about physical stress and mental stress 11:07 - The bad effects of overtraining 11:57 - The reason why she is doing a Master's in Rehabilitation Sciences 14:52 - Certifications doesn't matter to your clients; fixing their problems does 16:35 - Reframing her marketing around her certifications 17:57 - What contributed to her business's consistent growth over the past six months even amidst the pandemic 19:17 - What helped her move past her barriers 22:01 - Getting past her imposter syndrome 24:48 - What's the biggest and the best thing you can do for yourself 26:54 - Recognizing cockiness from confidence 28:54 - Getting through that difficult time when COVID hits early on 32:09 - From scarcity mode to an abundance mindset 33:38 - How does she foresee the health and fitness industry after COVID 36:19 - People need true connection and relationship Connect With Megan Pomarensky: mp-athletictherapy.com Instagram Facebook LinkedIn Connect With Gavin McHale: Gavinmchale.clickfunnels.com LinkedIn Instagram

The practice of enhancing physical performance with ingested substances has been around since ancient times. The Greeks were known to use a form of opium; other cultures have used mushrooms and even strychnine. But in modern times, the use of synthetic drugs to enhance athletic performance, commonly referred to as doping, has exploded, as evidenced by the recent massive doping scandals involving legendary athletes in the Tour de France and Major League Baseball. In response, a number of anti-doping organizations have been created to aggressively pursue what they regard as fairness in competition. The moral and ethical landscape surrounding doping is far from simple. How should we as society determine what are acceptable strategies for performance enhancement and what are not? The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), set up in 1999 by the International Olympic Committee to combat illegal performance enhancement in sports, defines doping as use of drugs that meets two of three criteria: enhancement of athletic performance, harm to health or safety, and violation of the "spirit of the sport". While this provides useful guidelines, there are still many complex questions to be debated in the coming years. What are the precise health risks of doping? In the race between scientists who are developing ever-more effective and clandestine performance-enhancing drugs, and those who are developing strategies to detect them and measure their risk, who is winning? How should we weigh the achievements of modern athletes who use performance-enhancing drugs against those of athletes from the past? The speaker will describe the evolution of testing procedures etc. Speaker: Tim Takahashi Tim Takahashi has been a Certified Athletic Therapist and Exercise Physiologist working in private practice in Lethbridge since 1998.
