Trent was drawn to Franklinton while working for a local bank. Franklinton had fallen on hard times due to a series of natural disasters, an exodus of industry, a rise in poverty, and an influx of drugs and crime. Over time, Trent became a passionate advocate for the area, leading first to a job with the neighborhood's board of trade, and eventually to Trent becoming a resident. Trent shares the how the area is now becoming a desirable up-and-coming neighborhood, and he shares a vision of a future where Franklinton is a thriving community that attracts new residents and businesses, but also lifts up the lives of the long term residents of the area. Trent Smith has been the Executive Director of the Franklinton Board of Trade (FBOT) since January of 2010. FBOT serves as the chamber of commerce for the Franklinton neighborhood, but unlike a traditional chamber it is a 501c3 non-profit. This status gives FBOT the latitude to do important community work based on three pillars of focus: Advocate, Beautify, Connect. In addition to business development, Trent organizes networking events, clean-up / beautification projects and socializing hours for FBOT members and guests. He works to create strong connections and relationships between the business community, non-profit community, and the residents of Franklinton. Franklinton Board of Trade (https://www.franklintonbot.org/) also serves to manage the Franklinton Special Improvement District of Columbus, Inc., which is designed to provide full time safety and cleaning services to a defined area of the Franklinton community. Prior to 2010 Trent spent 18 years in banking, most recently as the Branch Manager/AVP for WesBanco Bank's Gahanna, OH office. Part of his role there was to serve as the community development outreach director, which is what brought him to Franklinton in the first place. Trent has had the opportunity to serve as a director on a variety of boards through his career, including the Neighborhood Design Center, the East Franklinton Review Board, Community Crime Patrol, Habitat for Humanity, Gahanna Area Chamber of Commerce, Community Shares, Lower Lights, Inc., Franklinton Development Association and Franklinton Area Commission. He is a resident of Franklinton, where he lives with his wife, Joanna and his son, Quinn. Trent can be reached at trent@franklintonbot.org or (614) 398-2435. His standing invitation, to you the listener, is to contact him, then come down and hang out with him, where he will be happy to meet you at The Patio Bar for an Italian Sub and an introduction to the salt of the earth citizens of Franklinton. Then show you around some of the highlights of the neighborhood, including: Tommy's Diner - http://www.tommysdiner.com/ Bottoms Up Coffee - https://www.bottomsupcoffee.com/ Land Grant Brewing Company - https://landgrantbrewing.com/ 400 West Rich arts community - https://400westrich.com/ Trent also asks that you take a moment to become familiar with these incredible service organizations and support them if you are able: Lower Lights Ministries - https://www.lowerlights.org/ Gladden Community House - https://www.gladdenhouse.org/ Music used under standard license (https://filmmusic.io/standard-license) Acid Trumpet by Kevin MacLeod - Link: https://filmmusic.io/song/3340-acid-trumpet Roll The Intro by Alexander Nakarada - Link: https://filmmusic.io/song/4793-roll-the-intro Loopster by Kevin MacLeod - Link: https://filmmusic.io/song/4991-loopster Total Happy Up And Sunny by Sascha Ende® - Link: https://filmmusic.io/song/555-total-happy-up-and-sunny Summer by Liron - Link: https://filmmusic.io/song/6907-summer Find out more about Hear It Share It by stopping by www.hearitshareit.com. How Family Philanthropy Can Strengthen your Family and Your Family Business What you'll learn: What is effective philanthropy and why does it matter to your family and its business? How giving can benefit the family business as well as the causes you support? Why “top down” philanthropy and “top down” succession planning are limited and not sustainable? What are the top five skills the rising generations can learn from family philanthropy? How can issues, such as lack of communication, differing values and lack of trust, that develop in the rising generations be lessened or potentially mitigated using family philanthropy as the focus for learning? This week's guests: Deborah Goldstein Principal, Enlightened Philanthropy* Deborah Goldstein, founder of Enlightened Philanthropy, is dedicated to guiding the next generation in giving. Drawing from more than twenty years of experience in fundraising and nonprofit management, she engages clients in a tailor-made, intuitive process that reveals their authentic motivation and desire to give. Helping her clients strategize, problem solve, and align their values and interests with appropriate options culminates in an attainable Philanthropy Plan. Goldstein bridges the gap between different ages, building meaningful communication and engendering constructive action. As part of her multi-generational practice, she particularly focuses on advising youth as they navigate the world of philanthropy. Goldstein is also the creator of Philanthropy Camp for Women. Goldstein holds a BA in Biology from Wittenberg University and a master's degree in marine policy with a Certificate in Museum Studies from the University of Delaware. For over three decades, Tony has been a globally recognized business and technology leader on the forefront of the Global Business Services (GBS) and Information Technology industry.Tony’s experience in digital transformation runs deep. During a 27-year career at Procter & Gamble he ran both operations and digital transformation for P&G’s famed GBS and IT organization in every region of the world, ending up as Global Shared Services and Information Technology Vice-President. As a well-known industry thought leader he has led GBS design and operations, held CIO positions, managed acquisitions and divestitures, ran large-scale outsourcing, created industry-wide disruptive innovation structures, and designed new business models. He was named on Computerworld’s Premier 100 IT Professionals list in 2013.The recent opportunity to re-do digital capabilities for the multi-billion dollar best-in-class Global Business Services organization at P&G, by using exponential digital capabilities from the fourth industrial revolution, has brought together all of Tony’s digital transformation experiences against the big challenge of industry-level disruption. In tackling this by creating an industry ecosystem, it became apparent that this would be successful only if he could beat the 70% failure odds of digital transformation projects. Driven by this insight, Tony’s focus over the recent years has not been on technology, but on the anthropological and engineering rigor that is necessary to deliver successful digital transformations.Tony is currently an advisor to boards and c-suite executives on digital transformation. He continues to be a sought-after speaker in his spare time. Tony also advises several start-ups and venture capitalists. He has founded a blockchain based company to help the IT industry commercialize disruptive software. Tony’s prior board experience includes IT advisory board memberships at the University of Cincinnati, the Indiana University business intelligence program and at the University of Texas. He has been on the customer advisory boards of Cloudera, Box, and High Radius. Among non-profits, Tony was the founding member and Chairman of the Board for the INTERalliance of Greater Cincinnati, and is currently on the boards of Community Shares of Greater Cincinnati, and Remineralize the Earth.Learn More: http://transformant.io/Influential Influencers with Mike Saundershttp://businessinnovatorsradio.com/influential-entrepreneurs-with-mike-saunders/

Today's Extraordinary Women Radio Interview is with Leslie Foster, a 2018 Inductee into the Colorado Women's Hall of Fame and the President of a Denver non-profit, The Gathering Place. As you know, I have a passion for women helping women. For the changemakers. For women who reach out a hand and lift another up. This certainly describes Leslie. Leslie has been helping women get off the streets of Denver for 30 years. She has passionately worked to influence local decision-makers’ conversations about the homeless population in Denver and how organizations provide services to women and children experiencing poverty or homelessness. Leslie is being inducted into the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame this year and for good reason. In this interview, we talk about the strength of women – and how our strength multiplies exponentially – one women is strong… two women is like three … three women are like nine. Yes, we are strong and so much better when we work together. We talk about women in the homeless population and how we can best lend a hand to make a difference. Leslie was named the 2010 Community Leader of the Year by Community Shares of Colorado, and in 2008, she received the Swanee Hunt Individual Leadership Award from The Denver Foundation and Hunt Alternatives Fund. She has also received the "Woman of the Year" award from the Colorado Business and Professional Women, and the "Foremother of the Year" award from the Colorado Women’s Agenda. Leslie currently serves on Denver’s Mayor Hancock’s Commission to Address Homelessness and was the chair of the Committee on Youth and Families. Acknowledge the existence of a fellow person on the planet. Acknowledge someone and say hello. If you can remember someone’s name – it’s a big deal. ~Leslie Foster To learn more about Leslie's good work helping women visit The Gathering Place or on Facebook or Twitter. In the interview, we talk about the gift cards and art created by the women of the Gathering Place, and it is available for purchase at www.artrestart.org. Let’s meet the extraordinary Leslie Foster of the Gathering Place. *** The Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame mission is to inspire by celebrating and sharing the enduring contributions of Colorado’s distinctive women. To achieve this, the Hall educates the people of Colorado about the stories of the women who shaped our state and the nation’s history with courage, leadership, intelligence, compassion, and creativity. Their talents, skills, struggles, and contributions form a legacy that the Colorado Women’s Hall of Fame is dedicated to protecting. The Anglers Rest in Bamford – a few miles west of Sheffield – is more than a pub: it's a post office, cafe, music venue, meeting space for clubs and societies, art gallery and community hub.But a few years ago its future was uncertain. Part of the portfolio of a remote PubCo, The Anglers Rest had suffered years of under-investment and a short-term approach. And in 2012 it was at risk of permanent closure. That was when someone suggested the residents of Bamford buy the pub – and they raised over £260,000 through a 'community share issue' to do so. But their purchase was nearly thwarted at the last minute, until they were able to fight back, buy the pub and begin the hard work of making it a successful business and community hub (which also houses the village Post Office). Now The Angler's Rest employs over 25 staff, contributes over £200,000 annually to businesses in the Hope Valley, and has built a reputation for its warm welcome, diverse activities and quality food and drink.Rebecca McIntyre, one the founder members of the Bamford Community Society which was set up to save the Anglers Rest, and Amanda Taylor, its General Manager, joined me in the Sheffield Live radio studio to talk about how they saved the pub – and turned it into a thriving community-owned asset.Timings (music played within the live broadcast removed from podcast):0 - 8:58 introductions and update about this week's Budget announcement, already causing controversy8:58 - end interview with Rebecca McIntyre and Amanda TaylorAlso mentioned in the show: Power to Change; The Plunkett Foundation; Locality; The Community Shares Unit.
