This one is an art episode, but also a murder episode and also a madness episode. Artist Richard Dadd's life story is quite sad, but his art remained consistently good, even at the lowest points in his life. Robert Dadd was strolling through the acres of beautiful gardens in Cobham Park with his son, Richard. It was a gorgeous, warm summers evening. They had spent a relaxed evening in the local public house, catching up after Richard had returned from a long trip overseas. It was a peaceful evening, just the sounds of the water in the River Mole flowing rapidly past them and the hoots from the owls in the trees. It was a perfect summers evening and the stars were shining in the clear nights sky.But this would be the last time that Robert would enjoy these surroundings. In fact, this would be the last time that Robert would enjoy ANYTHING. As just a few hours later Roberts body was found laid on the grass a few metres from the road. This is the story of Robert Dadd.Visit us online at: Itsfoulplay.comFind us on all podcasting platforms: https://link.chtbl.com/FoulplayukSupport our podcast by becoming a patron at: Patreon.com/itsfoulplayCheck out our other podcasts: itsarclightmedia.com

Richard Dadd was a promising artist in the early 1800's. With his entire life ahead of him, he suffered from a psychotic break that he believed to be a spiritual possession. What caused this young painter to go mad and commit an unspeakable crime? Coni takes you through this historic case that sounds like it could come straight from a movie.

DAD ATTENTION DEFICIT DISORDER is a very powerful episode with Dr. Peter Breggin MD, a Harvard-trained psychiatrist and former Consultant at the National Institute of Mental Health who has been called “The Conscience of Psychiatry” for his many decades of successful efforts to reform the mental health field. His work provides the foundation for modern criticism of psychiatric diagnoses and drugs and leads the way in promoting more caring and effective therapies. His research and educational projects have brought about major changes in the FDA-approved ‘Full Prescribing Information' or labels for dozens of antipsychotic and antidepressant drugs. He continues to educate the public and professions about the tragic psychiatric drugging of America’s children. Dr. Breggin has authored dozens of scientific articles and more than twenty books, including “The Ritalin Fact Book”, “Talking back to Ritalin” and the bestseller Toxic Psychiatry. As a medical-legal expert, Dr. Breggin has unprecedented and unique knowledge about how the pharmaceutical industry too often commits fraud in researching and marketing psychiatric drugs. Most recently, Dr. Breggin has turned his attention to the misuse of the science surrounding COVID-19 and its origins in what he calls "global predators." Dr. Breggin and his wife Ginger R. Breggin have written a new book, COVID-19 and the Global Predators: We are the Prey. Hey guys! Welcome back to another episode. This week we’re talking about Richard Dadd. This is relax episode; meaning we get off topic a few times and joke around. We appreciate the support and we love our listeners. Richard Dadd was an English painter of the Victorian era, noted for his depictions of fairies and other supernatural subjects, Orientalist scenes, and enigmatic genre scenes, rendered with obsessively minuscule detail. (Wikipedia). He mentally snapped and killed his father, thinking he was possessed by the devil himself. After getting caught, he spent the reminder of his life in asylum since he was considered unfit to live in society. In the Tate Gallery there is one of the most beautiful and famous fairy paintings in the world - The Fairy Feller’s Master-stroke by Richard Dadd. Like all of Dadd’s paintings, it’s loved for its glorious whimsy and exquisite detail, however, its background is far from sweet. This is a case where art history meets gruesome true crime, and we learn that even luminous beauty can grow from dark and sinister soil
